Great selection of flattened live edge and local woods. Bonnie is great and Harvey loves a good conversation. (I sense he is sometimes misunderstood by customers. Personally, I enjoy shooting the breeze with Harvey and have picked up a few useful tips for my own woodworking. He is truly a character.) We always visited the Port Townsend gallery, but I think I prefer the Port Hadlock location. No issues with parking and the more remote surroundings fit the vibe. Forest Gems is a a real gem of a place.

The path not taken…read more.. Once upon a time, long before I had a driver's license, a pilot in Fairbanks, Alaska offered to help me get my pilot's license. What to say? Sighhhhhhh...the summer was short, my family was heading home, and it never happened. But.... Had I lived in Port Townsend, WA as a child, it could have. Indeed, it would have. I'd be flying the friendly skies of PT now, even as we speak. But, of course, I might not have time to do this review... www.ptaeromuseum.com I visited the Port Townsend Aero Museum three days days ago. T'was a bright spring day and I was loathe to go inside knowing that the three day forecast was for snow, snow, snow. Chipper Yelper that I am, I went inside the museum anyhoo, leaving the balmy outdoor weather to a small (teenaged) work crew landscaping the front of the building. If the kids were hard at work making the place beautiful for visitors, who was I not to reward their efforts? A small admission fee got me inside the new building. Airplane models hung from the rafters, beautifully restored planes had "landed" strategically about the floors. Placards described each plane and its role in history. Several planes (as noted on the placards) were currently in use as training craft for the young pilots who learn to fly at the museum. My entrance fee (donations from other visitors) is what keeps the fly lessons and the museum going. So I lingered for an hour or so, looking at airplane models, antique cars and some wonderful old flight helmets and gauges. I walked the catwalk around the inside of the tall building, looked at aviation paintings, watched other visitors as they entered the spacious hangar. DIdn't even notice that I was inside on a balmy day. I do have a suggestion or two for future museum exhibits: I'd have liked to have seen a motor, perhaps with its schematic nearby. I would have enjoyed brief "instructions" on the aerodyamics of flight. A checklist of preparations for lift-off and landing would have been fun to look at. (I am told that these are readily available through airplane manufacturers...so a generic list shouldn't be hard for the museum to find. ) There once was a wonderful old hand-lettered sign visible as you exited Jefferson International Airport, which is where the museum is located. It said "Don't forget to close your flight book." Perhaps an actual flight book would make interesting reading. Certainly the visitors' comment book does reflect the numbers of geographically distant folks who tour the museum but no space is included in it for visitors comments. This would be nice. But heck. Who am I to tinker with the success of this endeavor? This is a cool museum. Kids involved in its programs really *do* get the flight bug and occasionally do solo before they get their Washington State driver's license. And as for me? Well, I had a good time. Hopped into my ancient Saturn which was parked in the parking lot. Waved at the kids working on the landscaping. Scanned my gas gauge, speedometer and clock...and said to myself as I exited into the sunny Port Townsend afternoon... What if?? The road not taken. Or rather the runway not taken. Yet.

It was such a fun way to try varieties we probably wouldn't have ordered otherwise. But the highlight of our visit was definitely Wyatt at the sushi counter. He was so easy to talk to, genuinely kind, and you could tell he really cares about what he does. The sushi was amazing, and it was obvious he takes a lot of pride in making it. Meeting people who are that passionate about their work always makes the experience so much more memorable. Can't wait to come back for more cider, more sushi, and to say hi to Wyatt again. A lot of people she here for a lazy summer Sunday afternoon. There was also a booth that sold coconut ice cream and ice cream sundaes. I did not get to try the raw oyster bar; but if the oysters come from Hamma Hamma oyster farm or another Hood Canal oyster farm, they would be as local as it gets for raw oysters.

The space can also be rented for events, which I imagine would be picturesque. They have both red and white wine options as well as a variety of cider to choose from, and you get 3 samples for a tasting. Our ultimate favorite, though, was actually their blackberry shrub vinegar that had amazing flavor, and both us and the other couple we were with had to go home with a bottle. This is really a beautiful, peaceful setting perfect for decompressing after a long week. The owners are incredibly gracious hosts as well and made it a very pleasant experience for us.

They also have charcuterie boards if you are hungry. The owners are the kindest people and were so kind. They took us on a tour of the greenhouse and as a plant person I thoroughly enjoyed all of the greenery and plant life. I would definitely recommend this place for a visit or to come any day if you live locally. They also do private events like weddings.

They told us that visits to Sailor Vineyard are usually by appointment only, but they would give a quick call and let them know we were coming. The entrance is a little hard to find, and initially, we turned onto the vineyard road and had to backtrack to a little sign with just the house number, and that is where you park. It's in front of their house, and Kit came out and greeted us, introduced us to his adorable dogs after being sure we weren't opposed, and then guided us on a tour of their little family owned vineyard. We enjoyed learning about their unique grapes and their personal histories. They don't do conventional tastings, but instead, you bought a bottle that came with 4 engraved Sailor Vineyards wine glasses (to take home), and he pours for you while you enjoy the lovely day. We took home a bottle of their reserve wine and was disappointed we wouldn't be able to return for their big concert they are putting on at the end of three summer (Aug 10, 2024) with an Italian band. It's definitely a neat spot to stop if you're in the area, but be sure to call ahead.

I was lucky to get in line and receive my unique artwork. Just gorgeous! I was amazed at the precision and mastery Krysteen worked with as she effortlessly illustrated an intricate henna paisley upon my hand. No stencil, no guide, only pure talent and experience. I have so much respect for henna artists with her level of skill. I can truly say I was blown away by her work. It was great to talk with Krysteen and dive into her passion for henna and body art. Wonderful experience- great quality henna- and very essential staff! *My henna is still vibrant and gorgeous! Wasn't expecting this location on my body to hold any this long! :)
