Not sure what kind of review these place deserves. If you are going here you are going for a reason, and whatever that reason is you will be more than satisfied. I was their for a New Years weekend. Lots of fabulous music and the food was darn good for any standards. A few items were excellent. The baked salmon and the brisket really stood out for me. Even though cooked for a large group both dishes were excellent. The grounds are as lovely as can be. Accommodations vary from private rooms to bunk houses. All in all a great experience. Be warned; cell phone coverage is minimal though there is wifi available.

If you live in Woodstock or happen to be there on a Wednesday between June and the end of October,…read moredo yourself a favor and take a stroll through the Woodstock Farm Festival between 3:30 and dusk. Actually, if you live here you are probably cursing me right now in hippie speak because you have been coming here for 20 years.* Actually, if you live here, you probably aren't looking up your favorite farmer's market on Yelp so I'll just have at it. In 12-15 vendors or so you will find everything that you need to eat healthy and well. From meat to vegetables to fruit to other more savory items (pie, honey), you can easily do your shopping for the week sans beverages. It's an extremely friendly and community oriented atmosphere, accepting of anyone who wants to partake in the festivities. As a side to the market on Maple St., there is a flea market area where there are also food vendors, tents and picnic tables to enjoy your food and some live music. If you are lucky, you will even get to witness some dancing that has probably been going on here since the actual Woodstock. Get a couple tacos from Black Eyed Suzies and do yourself a big favor and get some pretzel bread from that nice lady with the pretzel stand. If you really want to treat yourself, get a chocolate filled pretzel croissant. Actually, get three and send me one...or all three. With Woodstock not full of too much to do at night, this market that spills over into the evening is the perfect opportunity to eat, shop, mingle with the locals and enjoy the cross section of Woodstock that makes it such a relaxing and inviting place to spend some time. _____________ *Sorry.

If you love country music, you are doing yourself a serious disservice if you don't go to this…read morefestival. Although this year (2015) was only its third, the nascent festival surpassed all expectations. I am a huge country music fan (Tennessee born and bred) and went this year for the first time, along with my husband and 24 yo niece. We rented an RV (another first) and drove from Maryland to Hunter Mountain, NY. From the word go, the entire experience was amazing. We purchased Outlaw VIP tix with Premium RV camping, which allowed us to stay on site in our RV. The Outlaw tix gave us front row access to the stage for all shows, access to the VIP tents, etc. My husband and I made some amazing friends while hanging out in the VIP tents and will be meeting up with them again at the festival next year. Our niece loved the front row access to the concerts, but also liked that she could escape the sun, grab some food and drinks in the tents, and watch the show with us every so often. The food vendors were great, especially those from local businesses. Festival staff were amazing. HUGE kudos to those that produce this festival. Specifically, I would like to thank Steve, Paul, Kaitie, Pam, Jess and all the others such as the VIP tent servers (tent 2) that made this experience absolutely fabulous. We even purchased our tickets for next year before we left. In talking with my husband, we agree that this festival/trip rates as one of our all-time top vacations, which says it all considering we have traveled the globe extensively. The relaxed atmosphere, great music, good food, and super service resulted in a truly stress-free escape that we really needed. I have only one suggestion for next year: availability of water bottles and soda bottles in the VIP tents all three days would be super. They were available on the third day, which was great, and would love that availability throughout the festival.

Hudson Valley Ribfest - Argentine style BBQ short ribs presentation

    Hudson Valley Ribfest

This was one AWESOME event…read more The Hudson Valley Ribfest (HVR) was as good as it gets. It had good food. Affordable beer and ribs. Plenty of space to chill. Excellent music. Lots and lots of parking. Excellent location to run an outdoor festival with a few thousand folks. Outstanding. I am a big BBQ fan from my days in Florida and I make it a point to visit 2 or 3 BBQ Competitions every year. I heard about The Hudson Valley Ribfest from The BBQ Festival Directory which list all the competitions and festivals across the country. Great site for the BBQ enthusiast. http://www.bbq-festivals.com/bbqfestival_directory.html The HVR was held at The Ulster County Fair Grounds in New Platz, NY. This place was huge. Getting to from NYC was a breeze even with weekend traffic. Parking was free and with plenty of attendants to direct you. Admission $5 per person to the Ribfest. If anyone has ever been to any of these competitions, they are very exciting or very boring. At this location you had about 40 or so Teams competing in various forms of BBQ cooking: ribs, chicken, hogs, brisket. I walked through the BBQ Team Village and everyone was just chilling. The cooking was in progress and only drinking beer was the order of the day. Let me tell you, I had more ribs than I should have and they were all good. I don't want to single out and praise one stand over another, but there was some serious cue. I am a ribs fan and each stand represented their style with smoke, good crust and very, very tasty. The ribs were moist and they had that pull. Very nice. The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party at Madison Park should seriously review how the Hudson Valley Ribfest does business. Lines were as long, but moved. I mean there where 50 to 70 people ahead of me and the wait was less than 12 minutes. The food was hot. Not warm like at Big Apple, but hot which made for an enjoyable experience. Overall, I can't wait till next year. Rib samples at $7 for 3 bones and they were full bones. Beer selection was slim, Bud and Bud Lite, but you were not robbed. Only $5, not the end of the world. Hudson Valley Ribfest was very family friendly and with the weather sunny, one awesome day.

Well I couldn't have been more surprised, the amount of vendors here was triple the amount of the ones that were here for the wine events. Lots of food with all kinds of variety. Yes BBQ was king, but there was something for everyone. Parking in the field across the road is plentiful. I did not see any pets so keep your four legged friends at home. The staff running the event are courteous and friendly. Security does check bags at the entrance. I didn't bother to ask what they were looking for since most large events have the added security and I'm all for that. We got here about a half hour after they officially opened and it wasn't as crowded yet. There were some lines already forming for the food so we scouted a bit and decided on Butch's for the ribs. The ribs were tender, gooey and tangy. Utterly delicious, specially after adding extra sauce. Later on we had some deep fried shrooms and fried green tomatoes. Beer and wine slushee's helped wash it all down. I ended the afternoon with some Argentine chorizo with chimichurri sauce without the bread. Very good I must add. Overall, a good way to spend the day. They've already posted the date for next years event. Oh yeah bring hand wipes, you're gonna need them.
