So I read Justin's review and decided to come here because I thought it was a pure cauliflower pizza, but I tested my glucose after one hour and it was sky high at 187. If it was purely cauliflower my sugar wouldn't have spiked like that, so I'm rather disappointed. The service was excellent but I was shocked at how high my glucose level was and felt misled by the review and also the staff. I wouldn't expect the staff to really know how to handle my health issues but I did ask if the cauliflower crust is made with flour or anything and I recall she said it wasn't. I'm really frustrated. My partner ordered the prosciutto sandwich and he didn't particularly enjoy it but that's personal preference and neither of us enjoyed the meatball. If my blood sugar didn't spike like that I would have given higher marks. read more

Food: This is a hidden gem in Sunset Park/South Slope that more people need to try! We tried the chicken parmesan plate, pizza (half margherita and half pepperoni with hot honey), and the calzone. All three were amazing and so impressive. The chicken parmesan was moist and flavorful; their sauce is very tasty. The pizza had a thin crust and nice char on the bottom and is definitely above average pizza in NYC. The calzone was huge and packed with ricotta and mozzarella cheese served with fresh basil and tomato sauce on the side. I can't wait to go back to try other dishes as well as their other specialty pizzas. Service: Service was phenomenal; staff were friendly and very attentive! Ambiance: The restaurant is pretty small with about 10-12 small tables. The place can probably accommodate only two large groups at a time by putting tables together. Good food, friendly and fast service. Pleasant ambiance and clean. Menu is more pizza than pasta, fyi. Limited soda selection is buttressed with two Italian soda offerings, lemon and orange. My iced coffee was large and well-brewed. The kids polished off the pizza AND my slice of bread; the bread was obviously good enough to "steal." Whenever we would visit the Gravesend cemetery, we would see this pizzeria and always said that we would try it because it looked like a quaint little place and those usually have the best pizzas. We finally tried it and it met our expectations. We went on a Friday around 5pm and it was empty so we chose a table by the window so we could soak up the sun. The place seems small from the outside but it is big enough for families to dine-in. The waitress was attentive and provided menus for us right away. We ordered the Margherita pizza and it was exquisite. Not too toasted and the cheese and sauce was a combined taste of heaven. I love that they have the Italian sodas so I ordered a blood orange one. The pizza holds up well for delivery. What brings it over the top is the fact that people with complex dietary restrictions can eat their pizza! My wife has allergies not only to wheat and dairy, but also rice, which is often used in gluten-free crusts (even cauliflower crust). Astarita's cauliflower crust is totally grain-free! After a long day at Urban Air with the kids, we were all starving. The food there wasn't worth the money and I honestly wanted something fancier since being in the city doesn't have often. My mom, whose favorite food is pizza, suggested Astarita. At first I objected - I didn't want 'just pizza' - but after struggling to agree on a place and with it already being 8 pm, we finally went. The pizza is amazing, the service is friendly and the ambiance is warm and welcoming. We had the margarita pie. The crust had a good char with a nice balance of cheese and sauce. We also ordered the meatballs and antipasto. Nothing special but certainly worth ordering to round out the meal.
