I was in Kingsport for a meeting and had lunch with friends at the Bagel Exchange. The bagels were delicious! We all had different bagel sandwiches and enjoyed them. I had turkey, cheddar cheese, and eggs on an everything bagel. This place was HOPPING on a Saturday just after 11. Wow. They were packed to the walls. But the staff was quick and effective and the sandwiches were AMAZING. They messed up one of our sandwiches but immediately made it right. I grew up eating Jewish deli bagels at my Jewish grandparent's house for years so I know my bagels. These were very, very good. The restaurant was a bit overwhelming because it was so packed you could barely move (so I'd suggest takeout). The prices are not cheap (over $41 for 2 sandwiches, a dozen plain bagels to-go and 2 sodas), so be prepared for that, but they are so good! read more

We found Bagel Exchange about 18 months ago while traveling to Texas. We finally got back in the general area so we detoured to go there again. It was so good the first time and at our stop today it was just as good. It's a hole in the wall, but the food is fantastic. Bagels a fresh and they make great sandwiches! You order at the counter and they bring your food if you're eating there. Everyone is very friendly. What a great find! read more

One of the really good bagels that I have ever had! This is a cute little place great for breakfast or brunch. It was so busy on a Saturday morning. They have a wide selection of bagels and shmears and sandwiches. My husband got the veggie cadet (#11) which he really liked. I got the NY's finest (#1) which was also good, but a bit salty (I couldn't finish it) Overall, it's a nice place and would love to come back to try out other items! read more

Single-handedly one of the best bagel sandwiches I've had from anywhere (and that's including the bagel mecca of NYC). These dudes are light, crisp, superbly flavorful and 100% fresh... couldn't ask for more. This store was a super welcome surprise, as we didn't even know about it and happened to be in the area at a distillery around the corner. We were highly recommended to go by as it was about lunch time. We soon found out why. The locals love it, and the line was nearly out the front door. The small shop had tons of bagels, flavors, options, sandwiches, and every single one that we saw was killer. If we'd been able to eat more, we'd definintely have gotten another one. The only thing we didn't do right was order some bagels to take home with us while we were already in line. By the time we'd finished our sandwiches, the line was even longer and we didn't have time to wait in line again to get some to take home! Learn from our mistakes and get'cha some while you're there! The food is good. Service is getting worse. they have a color chart that people can point to to reference desired level of toast. I always ask toasted. This is rarely achieved. Today, it wasn't toasted at all. When I asked them to toast it, the kitchen guy grabbed it out of my hand, threw it in the trash. It was too rude to have a conversation with. So the updated bagel brought back was lightly golden. Not dark toasted. It really sucks to spend $13 sandwich and they can't even toast it. Though this often happens, it's the first time I've had someone be so rude. It's not like they were that busy. I've been a very good customer here, but I'm done. It's more than just as a customer, it's the additional rudeness from a man to a woman. I've never witnessed this guy talking to any other males this way. I'm heading back for a return trip after over a year because I've been dreaming about this place all during Covid'20 and through one of those hospitalizations where you start making a list of all of the things that you're going to eat if you make it out alive. It's the same way on a deployment, incarceration, or being away from your hometown for a little too long. Some folks make big plans and have a to-do list, but people like us make a I'm-a-gonna-eat-that list and right near the top of mine is The Bagel Exchange. I let Wifey in on my plan this week, so today I'm bringing another family member who loves bagels and good food and we're meeting Wifey and one of our friends. I only remembered a few tables in a very busy bagel-rrific deli scene. Today I suggested that I'd try to go early and scope out a table. Wifey and a friend who works right around the corner for the "psychotherapist to the stars" both mentioned in hushed tones that if a feller makes his way through the labyrinth to the back, there is a staircase that leads to an extra semi-secret seating area. It may not be that dramatic, but it seems moderately mysterious so far. I'll go check it out today and let you know. Now for the pro-tip. You really can't go wrong here, so I'm playing the long game. I'm going to wait to order until after the 3 lovely lunch dates order. That way I can plan my own order as a main course and probably score a few bites of theirs as appetizers. Hors d'oeuvres. Small storefront entry into a compacted multi order/pickup/ self serve drink & condiment area to the right wall and small tables and sit downs to the left. A few tables outside to enjoy. The inside is stimulus overload with a deli-case of Boar Heads meats and cheeses to choose for creating a choice from the overhead menu of breakfast/lunch versions made with their locally known house made bagel varieties. I had the impression this company varied some of their bagel varieties and revolved some of their more popular versions. My local family members knew exactly what they were ordering by memory. Being a visitor I was excited to have the choice of pumpernickel!!! Barney the dinosaur would have danced a happy dance!! It's both our favorite: pumpernickel!! We had phoned in our 4 person order, arrived near noon for pick up; entered to a busy vibe of ordering customers, meal eaters at tables and a staff of taking orders and ringing orders up. IF you're visiting, pull up the web menu, and use the call ahead version to discourage the anxiety of '... oh my god, there's so much to chose from..." unless you re okay with that pressure !! Either way,it is a must at Kingsport! Our bagels were wrapped in deli paper, lathered with personal choices of smears made of flavors and cream cheese. Served warm and a bit smashed together which maybe due to the 'sacked& carry out' and the personal choice to "skinny the bagel" which gave a better ration of bread:filling. They did offer scones and had on display closer to the pick up/ check out area located near the self service drink station of the usual fountain sodas, iced teas and house coffees of 4 varieties included a decaf-coffee! The bagels were enjoyed and eaten rapidly by our group, and our coffees hot and sip able for the morning during good conversation!! This establishment offered a unique offering for out of towners, and locals alike!! Homey, friendly, busy bees a buzz, and beautiful bagels lathered in variations from simple bagel and butter to a plethora of sculpting for self creation into a breakfast or lunch version of sandwich type enjoyability and yum yum! Simply incredible. Bagels, cream cheese, breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches. They don't sell a bagel product here that is bad. Moved out of the area last year. This is the one place that we still talk about missing. If I'm driving up 81 or down 26, I have to stop for a sausage egg and cheese on sesame and a French Toast bagel with Maple Walnut cream cheese. read more

Let me start with this comment - I AM NOT A FAN OF BAGELS, IN GENERAL!! This local Kingsport, TN treasure was the breakfast spot picked for us by my cousin and his wife before we struck out on a tour of the Tri-City area. Going in I was not excited about what lay in store. However, my mind was changed once I bit into my homemade Sesame Seed bagel with egg and ham and cheese stuffed inside!!! This breakfast bagel was so dam n delicious...The bagel was not too dense or chewy and the breakfast filling was so well cooked and tasty it was just an eye opening experience for me... They have a very large selection of fresh homemade bagels to choose from and they offer not only breakfast but lunch bagels for your dining pleasure... This place is definitely a local treasure as it was packed the morning we stopped in but the line moved quickly and once you placed and paid for your order you simply find a seat and the staff has your bagel to you in no time at all... Great local bagels! We love going downtown and getting bagels. All of their sandwiches that we've had have been delicious with very large portions. The staff have always been very polite and helpful. The atmosphere is a very nice change from other restaurants in the area with a more urban, busy feel. If you're in town, definitely go by for lunch! read more

The food here was pretty good, a bit expensive for what you get, and we stood there for a long time before employees acknowledged us or took our order. But the main thing is I did not enjoy my meal at all due to the fact that the owner sat behind us the entire time we were eating and very loudly ranted to some other customers about politics and far right conspiracy theory propaganda and how the January 6th Capitol riot was all the democrats fault. Very unprofessional, if I wanted to listen to that nonsense I would have stayed home and turned on Fox News. Also not a single employee or other customer in this establishment was wearing a mask. This restaurant offers the best bagels in the area. Anytime we have went in to eat there has been a line. But it is definitely worth the wait. They have around 6-8 different bagels daily. They blend their own cream cheeses to serve with the bagels. They have a good menu of sandwiches too.
