This place was HOPPING on a Saturday just after 11. Wow. They were packed to the walls. But the staff was quick and effective and the sandwiches were AMAZING. They messed up one of our sandwiches but immediately made it right. I grew up eating Jewish deli bagels at my Jewish grandparent's house for years so I know my bagels. These were very, very good. The restaurant was a bit overwhelming because it was so packed you could barely move (so I'd suggest takeout). The prices are not cheap (over $41 for 2 sandwiches, a dozen plain bagels to-go and 2 sodas), so be prepared for that, but they are so good!

I was introduced to The Bagel Exchange by a group of guys from work. This place rocks!!! The Food is out of this world! Great group of people working there. They will do anything they can to meet your expectations! You won't be disappointed!

One of the really good bagels that I have ever had! This is a cute little place great for breakfast or brunch. It was so busy on a Saturday morning. They have a wide selection of bagels and shmears and sandwiches. My husband got the veggie cadet (#11) which he really liked. I got the NY's finest (#1) which was also good, but a bit salty (I couldn't finish it) Overall, it's a nice place and would love to come back to try out other items!

Single-handedly one of the best bagel sandwiches I've had from anywhere (and that's including the bagel mecca of NYC). These dudes are light, crisp, superbly flavorful and 100% fresh... couldn't ask for more. This store was a super welcome surprise, as we didn't even know about it and happened to be in the area at a distillery around the corner. We were highly recommended to go by as it was about lunch time. We soon found out why. The locals love it, and the line was nearly out the front door. The small shop had tons of bagels, flavors, options, sandwiches, and every single one that we saw was killer. If we'd been able to eat more, we'd definintely have gotten another one. The only thing we didn't do right was order some bagels to take home with us while we were already in line. By the time we'd finished our sandwiches, the line was even longer and we didn't have time to wait in line again to get some to take home! Learn from our mistakes and get'cha some while you're there! You won't regret it. Well done, Bagel Exchange! We can't wait to come again!

The best bagel I have ever had, hands down!!! From the staff, to ambiance of this place, it was definitely a great experience. Another hidden jewel for sure.

Great local restaurant for breakfast or lunch! Their bagels were delicious and soft. We went for lunch and had bagel sandwiches as well as bagel chips + cream cheese. Everything was great. I will definitely be back to try more bagels as well as their other baked goods. Still doing take out during COVID so go check it out!!

But when we arrived, right after they opened on a Sunday morning, we were told that they only serve "what we refer to as 'brunch' on Sundays", and were handed paper menus with five items on it. Slightly confused, hoping we could still order off of their main menu, we waited for the waitress to return with our coffee (three Americanos and one latte). And we waited. And then we waited. And we waited some more. While we waited, three other parties came in, sat down, questioned the menu, then got up and left. Had it been just us that had that reaction to the abbreviated menu, I would have voted to woman up and just stay put. I didn't want to be "those tourists" who get all riled up about something local that doesn't fit their expectations. But once we (finally!) got our coffee and asked the waitress for clarification, we realized we had to go. The menu was the menu. Their sides - which are referenced on the menu but are never explained - were lackluster for the "base" and even less impressive for the "premium" options, which of course would have cost us even more money. That, paired with the uninspired and surprisingly one-note menu just drove us right out the door. My latte was at least delightful, but that's all I can say. Also, the place was likely very clean, because we were hit by a powerful smell of disinfectant and/or cleaner when we walked in. And finally, the waitress removed my menu after she saw me taking a picture of it. She didn't touch anybody else's menu, just mine.

The entrance has some significant potholes so watch as you enter or leave, but the opening is very wide so you can maneuver around them pretty easily. This area is also used for the stockyards so there were several trucks with trailers but they tended to park further away from the restaurant. There are steps to the entrance, but there is a ramp on the left side as well. There is also a handicapped space at the bottom of the ramp, but you will need to walk through the gravel lot so plan accordingly. The entrance is at the bottom of a U-shaped bar. All seating is at the bar so large parties will be spread out. It you do have a large party, try to get a corner so you can talk easier. I was able to find a seat along the right side. There were quite a few regulars, evidenced by the joking between them and the staff. The place can get loud with all the conversation, but everyone is friendly and the staff is accommodating. While the kitchen is in the rear, the drinks, cups, silverware, etc. are all in the middle of the bar. This area is quite busy as all the staff maneuvers through here. It did seem waitresses were experienced and took care of both sides of the bar. The building itself is pretty run down but "well used" does not indicate dirty or unsafe, just that is has a lot of history. I ordered the biscuit with gravy and sausage and added two eggs for an additional dollar. The food came out in about ten minutes. The biscuit and gravy were very good and the eggs were cooked as ordered. The sausage was dry but was OK when added to the biscuit and gravy. My coffee never got below half a cup. It was a relatively warm morning, and the restaurant started to heat up while I was there. It appears they only have a wall air conditioner which cannot keep up with all the heat generated in the restaurant. It was not uncomfortable but could be that way in the summer. Betty's is a homey local spot with a decent breakfast for a good price.

We drove from Johnson City to Kingsport one morning looking for something quick, and as always, I trusted my Yelp peeps to point us toward something good. Big As Biscuits & Burgers is tucked inside a gas station but don't let that deter you for a second. These biscuits are no joke. We were originally thinking of a sit-down breakfast, but my partner is a full-blown biscuit enthusiast. If we see biscuits, we try the biscuits. So we stopped in, and the woman behind the counter was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We grabbed a ginormous biscuit for just over $3. She had all the single-serve jams and jellies ready to go, which I appreciated. We took it back to the car to eat. First impression: this thing requires two hands. It's massive. She had already sliced it for us, and when I opened it up, you could see the buttery pockets where it melted into the dough while baking. It wasn't ultra-layered and flaky like a laminated biscuit, but it was perfectly soft on the inside with a beautiful crunch on the outside. The flavor was spot on!!! Soft, warm, buttery and comforting. We added a little jam, though honestly it didn't even need butter. It was that good. If you're looking for a quick, satisfying bite that will absolutely fill your belly, stop at Big As Biscuits & Burgers. We're already talking about grabbing a few more to bring back to the hotel before we leave town. Sometimes the best finds are inside a gas station and sometimes a biscuit really can make your morning.
