Two Dads has solidly good down home breakfast food in a quirky diner. The service is super friendly.

Traveling through Kingsport we stopped into two dads for a quick lunch. I was pretty surprised as it was not the Two Dads that we had picked out from the other Yelp restaurant. Kinda confusing. The other Two Dads has a bunch of different sandwiches, wraps, pimento cheese etc. The menu is pretty limited to burgers, a couple other sandwiches, and breakfast. I got the burger and tater tots. It was fine. Nothing to write home about, but certainly a filling burger. Wife got two hot dogs with chili and fries. Her fries looked better than my tots. It looked fine. The service was dry but, fine I guess. There were some flies, but hey, every restaurant, especially this time of year has those. The most memorable thing however was the Confederate flag stating "Git R Done" on the wall and the Uncle Remus ad. I get it, you're going for that 1959s diner vibe, but I wouldn't recommend this place, especially if the other Two Dads, without the outdated decor, is open across the street. read more

Located on the corner of Sullivan and Charlemont, it's pretty easy to find. There is a small parking lot adjacent to the building, but the surface is pretty bad. It's paved, but there is a major broken hump you would need to drive over to get into several of the parking spaces. The hump was high enough to scrape the bottom of the vehicle. It had rained previously so there was also a six inch deep puddle next to the hump. Taller pickup trucks or SUVs could park in these spaces but not regular sedans or minivans. Other parking is available on the street, with parallel parking spaces as well as angled spaces. In general, you won't have much issue finding a space, but there were no handicapped spaces noticed. Access to the entrance door also requires a step as no sidewalk ramps were observed. This is not a restaurant issue but should be noted for the mobility impaired. We were greeted as we walked in and taken to a small table. Seating is somewhat crowded but not bad. The decor is very homey and eclectic. It also seems they change decorations based on the season which would keep the interior fresh. There were a lot of boxes of various items taking up floor space which did impact maneuverability, so please be aware as you go to and from your seat. Our server took our drink order right away and brought the drinks back quickly. We needed more time to peruse the menu and our server was very gracious and came back after an appropriate time. I did not get her name but she was very good. Our order took 10-15 minutes to arrive. The 2 eggs, meat, and biscuit with gravy was fine. The eggs were a bit undercooked from what was ordered. The sausage patty was a bit overdone and tough to cut. The gravy needed additional pepper, but this is a personal choice. The biscuit was good and easily the best part of the dish. The French toast was cooked perfectly, as was the bacon. The eggs were also cooked to order. The Jeremy's western omelet was not as expected. My dining partner did not want home fries (as included in Stacey"s western home fries bowl) but when the dish arrived it was on a bed of home fries. We re-checked the menu to be sure the correct dish was ordered and then called our server. She indicated both the Stacey's bowl and Jeremy's bowl included home fries, even though the menu does not include home fries for the Jeremy's bowl. Our server talked to both the kitchen and one of the owners to confirm and then offered to re-make the Jeremy's bowl without the home fries. We were told they made a mistake on the menu and both bowls included home fries. Apparently the Stacey's bowl does not include eggs while the Jeremy's bowl does. Since it had been some time already my dining partner did not want to wait for a re-fire. She wound up eating only about half the order, partially for time and partially because of a large amount of grease pooling on the plate. The take home container had a good amount of oil on the bottom when arriving home. Their menu does offer a decent array of dining options. The execution was a bit spotty, but the service was outstanding. read more

If you don't want to read the whole review-the short answer is I MAY try to eat here again. My initial thought upon entering the restaurant is way too much clutter. Too many knick knacks. It reminds me of my great grandmother's house. The walls are covered with photos, metal signs, Italian chef decor, model cars, tin metal cookie and cracker containers, a quilt, and Christmas decorations (we visited during the holiday season). There doesn't appear to be a unified theme and in my opinion, a lot of it should be sold or donated in order to make room for customers, as this is clearly a popular place to eat. So many things in the restaurant really distracted us but not really in a good way. The place could feel so much bigger and cleaner with a little less stuff. It didn't appear dirty inside but with so much around, it feels dirty and claustrophobic. There are multiple options on the tables-creamer, butter, syrup, ketchup, Himalayan salt and pepper. It's just busy-all the way around. From the decor to the amount of customers, it's busy so something must be working. The place was packed full of customers and I've always heard great reviews of it so despite the overcrowding with mismatched decor, I decided to try it. The wait for our food was a little more than I expected (over 30 minutes) for a cheeseburger, tater tots, and an omelette but the service is friendly and the food is decent. Although next time, I will skip the cheeseburger. It was quite dry. But the tater tots were great. They weren't greasy at all. I have a feeling most people come to this restaurant for breakfast and not the cheeseburger. The omelette was cooked just right and not overly done. Sometimes, places will cook an omelette too much and dry out the eggs or make them crispy. The cheese was plentiful and nicely melted on the omelette. The home fries were not greasy and the toast was so buttery, warm and thick. I loved the toast! Although we didn't have them, we saw pancakes and they looked delicious. The biscuits and gravy were quite popular with other customers and it sure did look great. I'm not sure if they were short-handed or if it's always this chaotic but I felt bad for the servers. One of the bathrooms had a water leak and there were workers inside the restaurant. I think this fact may have contributed to the craziness. Overall, edible food. I may try again. read more

Great service clean and decent atmosphere. I had the chicken fried steak with gravy and home fries. No complaints about the home fries. The white gravy was excellent! Creamy and smooth. I couldn't identify it but it actually had some flavor. Most white gravies are good but are actually quite bland, which is ok as that's what they are. So this was a pleasant surprise. The chicken fried steak itself sadly seemed to be a frozen thing bought from some food service company. It wasn't bad by any means even if it was a bit thin. Was going to be a four star for the passable but not much to write home about breakfast, excellent wait staff, and cute decorations. Was really taken aback when one of the owners kicked out a woman who was sitting at a table enjoying a coffee and told her "you're not going to sit here all day". She may or may not have been homeless, seemed to be slightly unkept, and paid for her coffee when she left. It's 28 degrees right now and I hope she is not sitting out in the cold somewhere. The dining room was only about half full, and I for the life of me can't see how this woman posed any problem. Great little side street restaurant! Definitely a little hole in the wall worth traveling to. My daughter and I love to have breakfast here. The orange juice is absolutely delicious- tastes the closest to Florida. Fast and friendly service. The tomato tasted like a fresh garden tomato in December. Crazy little place, everything seemed a bit out of place and dysfunctional. Chairs on rollers. Kitchen is up a ramp in the back of the house. Server with the short hair yelling and the new girl. The men's bathroom was a train wreck. Food was great..no complaints there. read more

I'm a vegetarian. Have been for 5 years. I had the veggie burger sent to my house by DoorDash. It upset my stomach. I called the restaurant to inquire how the item was cooked and she informed me it was cooked in the on the same grill as the regular meats. I have diarrhea. This is why they should be cooked separately. Sorry for the TMI. THEN SHE HANGS UP THE PHONE ON ME. She was very rude. Very unprofessional. I wouldn't eat here if you have a sensitive stomach.
