Excellence is standard here from bar drinks and beers to service and especially the food. Shrimp cocktail coconut shrimp and fried green tomatoes for appetizers, although the ultra fine corn meal hush puppies are highly recommended too. Blackened redfish with special salsa was tender tasty and an unusually rich tasting treat. Mahi Mahi and Chilean sea bass were others chosen and one solo filet mignon. Conversation Slowed to a crawl with few oohs ahhs and you've got to try this statements all thru dinner. Desert was warm carrot cake and chocolate brownie Sunday. Decadent sweet and deliriously great with superb back coffee. Wait staff never left a glass unfilled and was great with recommendations for an unforgettable meal. Next time I'll come earlier to take advantage of the seafood market ( closed at 5 pm) for take home delicacies flown in fresh from everywhere greatest seafood exists. We walked in for dinner about an hour before closing, so they weren't all that busy. We were shown to a table along the windows, with an excellent view of the river just outside. It really was quite impressive. Our waitress was friendly but not very present, she'd disappear for large amounts of time and forgot refills a couple of times, but it didn't detract from the meal. I went with the Mahi Mahi entree ($20.99), blackened. I got the loaded potato for my side (+$1) and a side salad. My husband ordered the Stuffed Tilapia ($20.99) and we got the Fried Crab Bites ($14.99) to start. The crab bites and the side salads came out together. The salad was simple but good, kind of reminded me of a school cafeteria side salad in it simplicity. The crab bites were interesting - crispy on the outside, but still a bit...soupy?...on the inside. They were served with a remoulade dipping sauce that added a bit of zest. The main dishes came out pretty quickly, once the appetizer and salad plates were cleared. The mahi piece was smaller than I had expected, which was okay in the sense that I wasn't starving, but surprising in the sense that we were paying $21 for it. Still, it was blackened and flaky, and flavorful. The baked potato was also quite tasty, though I feel like it's hard to mess up a baked potato. My husband's plate was a cheesy, gooey slab of fish, served with two slices of crusty bread. He enjoyed the flavors of the tilapia and appreciated that they didn't skimp on the crab or shrimp meats. We had intended to end the meal with dessert - their specials menu was so intriguing - but by the time we finished our meals, we were stuffed, and it was almost 9 pm, their closing time. We didn't want to be those people making the kitchen stay late, so we packed it in and headed home. One note on the exterior: there were swarms of what we referred to as "midges" - not sure if that's what they truly were, but swarms of tiny bugs that hit you in the face as you were walking and followed you into your car as you were leaving. Unfortunately it was cool and drizzly so we didn't get to eat on the deck but pretty darn close as we ate in the area next to the River with large doors. Food was good. And service was awesome. Wife and I went for lunch on August 23, 2026. The place was busy but not crowded. We were very disappointed. Request for drink order was slow. Waitress had to come back to re-ask for drink order. Then it took another 15 minutes to get our drinks and place our food order. Potato soup was delivered quickly and was very good. Delivery of the rest of our order seemed to take way too long at that point. Wife's coconut shrimp were a little overdone. My beer-battered cod was dry. Fried okra was way undercooked - the flour coating was still white and soggy and it was nonedible. Notified waitress about the okra. We had almost finished our meal by the time she brought an okra replacement. It also was almost raw and nonedible. Notified waitress - she offered another dish, but we were through with our meal and had no interest in waiting another 15 to 20 minutes for another replacement. Took another 10 minutes to get check. No adjustment for problem. Manager did not stop by. We were never asked how the food was. The food and service have been very good in the past. But both of the last two times we visited, the food and service were lacking. Three time is a row is way too much. We don't plan on ever returning. read more

While exploring Kingsport, I decided to stop by Riverfront Seafood Company. I was given a nice table with a view of the river. The server, while not overly friendly, was attentive. She definitely paid more attention to the tables of 2+ guests maybe not realizing this solo traveler tips too. Anyway, I ordered a glass of iced tea and the popcorn shrimp basket. Being landlocked and knowing the shrimp didn't come from that river, I didn't have huge expectations. I was very pleasantly surprised. The portion was a nice sized portion for the price. The shrimp and breading had a very good flavor. The hand cut fries were also very good, even though a tad greasy, but that seems to be the case with hand cut fries. All in all, it was a great lunch and I would for sure come back and recommend the stop to others. read more

We've eaten here three times and each experience has been mid. Nothing terrible but nothing great either. I've always tipped 20% but I've never received service that I thought was worthy of the tip. I wouldn't say to avoid the restaurant but I hope your experience is better than what mine have been. I'm sure I'll be back again in 18-24 months and see if it's changed. read more

A lot of the food is good. The riverfront combo platter is my favorite. Staff was very nice, and got the job done nicely. The only thing I didn't like was the portions. Searching for a nice dine-in restaurant with good meal options and a nice view, then Riverfront Seafood Company in Kingsport a great spot to visit! A very laid back and casual atmosphere, diners can experience good food and look out to the South Fork Holston River - sometimes you may catch folks kayaking by. For dinner, they do offer and recommend making reservations. It is a good spot for large groups of people to visit as well as for intimate dining. Our server was prompt with taking our orders and returned with drinks and appetizers hot and delicious! Our dinner came pretty quickly too, we were almost overwhelmed by how much food we did order - thinking our eyes were bigger than our stomachs! Hahah! We were pleasantly surprised how delicious the Fried Mozzarella, the New England Clam Chowder AND the Whiskey Chicken tasted! While it may look like a simple dish, the Whiskey Chicken had that other layer of JD that just added to it. We did manage to finish all of our apps and most of our entrees. First of off seafood was good, no fault of the chef but we did split the bill between two parties. We were both charged the same amount me being overcharged by about 50 bucks. I told the girl about the issue and she took the bill said she would fix it and, she brought the bill back and she had wrote void on the ticket with no explanation and just said that it should be back in my bank account back in 24 hours. I asked to speak to the manager Russ, he came to our table already seemed like He was frustrated with no apology or anything. He took my receipt that said voided and left came back to my table still with an attitude and I just asked for an explanation in which he got an attitude with me. This was the most frustrating experience with a restaurant I have ever had in my life and still no apology. Five of us made reservations at Riverfront for dinner on Black Friday...but things actually weren't as busy as we expected. I think we could have gotten seated without them -- which rarely seems the case for weekends. The restaurant remains clean, well kept, and probably the best dining room view available in the area from its position alongside the Holston River. Service was still prompt and accurate. My usual order -- the mixed grill with herbs de Provence, potato cakes, and a salad -- was as delicious as always; the reports from the rest of the group stated their food was well prepared also. I also heard that the blackberry cake was outstanding, though I didn't sample it myself. It's safe to say this is the best dining experience we've ever found in Kingsport and likely the best seafood option in the Tri-Cities. I've heard it hasn't always been so consistent, but I've found it to be in my visits. 4+ stars. read more

Fresh seafood in east TN? Why yea there really is. I don't know how they do it but it's really fresh and really good. Came with friends for dinner before going to see Natural Tunnel in VA. Hubby ordered the Riverfront Combo and loved every bite. With a salad, blue cheese dressing, and fried green beans. It's a large dish, so we have leftovers. I enjoyed the Louisiana Fried Tilapia with a salad and fried potato cakes. Their potato cakes are the size of a crab cake. Very flavorful yet different than Latkes (as I'm familiar with having lived in NE IL). Our friends had the shrimp and grits (spicy shrimp) and coconut shrimp (huge pieces). Ended by sharing a piece of Bill's Blackberry Cake. It's very sweet a couple bites was enough for me. Their fried foods are very good. The foods come out hot and full of flavor. I don't know where to even start. As soon as we got out of the car, all you could smell was fish and sewer, not like riverfront fish, but rotted fish and straight raw sewer. I side it smells like a dirty fish tank. We shouldve left at this point but gave it the benefit of the doubt. Their online menu prices are VERY different than in store. we had the crab cakes for an appetizer, you get 2 for almost $15, each being not much bigger than a 50 cent piece. They smelled like cake.. they tasted so weird, nothing like a crab cake should taste like. The sauce served with them was basically vinegar and yum yum sauce mixed together. They brought my side salad and the vegtables had that weird transparent look like when they've been refrigerated too long, the cucumber was "squishy" like over ripened. mh husband ordered the red snapper with rum sauce, it was so dry and over cooked he was having to cut it with a butter knife, and the sauce looked like water With chunks of pineapples in it. He couldn't even finish it. I had the lobster tails $40 for 4 oz. (If that) they gave me an extra because they were so small. The lobstereat Was so chewy and tough, I've had steak that was more tender. It was just pulling apart in big strands, and I had to use a knife to saw the pieces apart. The butter they gave to dip in was just a flavorless oil. No taste at all. Then i asked for a to go drink and when the waitress brought it back it had a hair hanging out of the lid, we asked for another and she looked at it and was like "oh okay" and said she would be right back. We waited probably ten more minutes with no drink so we just left. During out 1.5 hours there the waitress only took our order, brought h th e food and brought our check. She never even checked on us. The only thing edible out of our $110 meal, was the fried green beans and hush puppies my husband got. I highly doubt NOT recommend this place. It is cheap and outdated and the food is so bland and over cooked and such small portions, it's no where near the worth the price. I'd rather go To red lobster or chop house any day. Absolutely disgusting, they should be ashamed to even feed this garbage to people. If I could give them -5 stars I would. Don't walk RUN away from this place. read more

Visiting our daughter this weekend. We thought we would try Riverfront. Well we got out of the car and noticed the smell, not from the restaurant but the plant down the street. We got inside and were greeted and taken to our table. We were lucky enough to have 2 waitresses, one was training the other. We ordered way too much food, but wanted to try all different things. Found the batter under cooked, soggy, and under seasoned. Coconut shrimp again had little coconut flavoring with an orange marmalade dipping sauce. Food was ok. Seemed like everything was fried in the same oil and batter... chicken, shrimp and the fried green tomatoes and the corn. The fried green tomato's weren't green tomatoes either they were ripe yellow tomatos. They were coated in the same batter as the chicken and fish. Not the traditional cornbread like coating. So that was a big disappointment . The fried corn on the cob had no flavor at all abs looked like it had been sitting in a pot of water all day.
