I've ordered food from this place through ubereats a couple times already and I've come to find that they aren't consistent with what they put in their sandwiches. I've ordered the supercharger numerous times and a few times they'd forgotten to add the bacon or if I order it was Sprouts they don't add any type of lettuce to it. If I'm paying $2 more for Sprouts I expect my lettuce to also be in there. I've also requested the potato salad numerous times and they don't have it and they claim that they would refund me the money but they never did. Also once they gave me broccoli salad instead and it was beyond disgusting. I had to toss it out. When they do get it right they are really good however they need to pay more attention to detail especially when it comes from mobile orders. read more

This place is fantastic! On a road trip, we were looking for a pit stop to grab some lunch. It took a bit of navigation from the freeway, but it was pretty easy-and well worth it. It's a modern bakery in a hip little setting. I've lived in Chicago and New York, where you can find some of the best baked goods in the US, so I'm always on the lookout for a good bakery in Cali but a bit pessimistic about thinking I'll find one. Today, I stopped in the Bakery Station after my morning hike to see what this place offers. It has a bit of a Chicago punkabilly feel being in a converted gas staion and is very light and airy (recent article about this trend, see below link). It's also super clean. I thought it was a new business but the woman I spoke with said they've been open over four years. I had the veggie quiche to go and an oatmeal cookie. Both were ample in size, delicious and moist. I learned about how some of the items are made from almond flour that they grind themselves as well as a non-soy vegetable protein powder. This goes beyond any NY Italian bakery with the waxy flavor and instead, they choose high quality ingredients in their products which you can taste. There is a wide enough variety from savory to sweet and incredibly friendly and professional employees - I highly recommend giving this local business a try. Also, my roommate is gluten free and they had several options for her as well as nut free options. T'was a Thursday afternoon when the hunger set in. I couldn't remember the last time I ate for the life of me. Driving aimlessly, my weary self pulled into what I initially thought was a gas station, content with filling up on some kind of trivial snack and generic coffee before fueling up and hitting the open road once more. As I put the car in park, however, I realized that there were no gas pumps to speak of but instead a scene resembling Edward Hopper's Nighthawks. I pulled open the door and was overwhelmed with the scent of freshly baked dough, the tantalizing scent of freshly prepared toppings and a hint of warm deli meats. It at first seemed a trick of light; such a heavenly venue was in stark contrast with the surely disappointing feast I'd imagined awaiting me inside. I shrugged my shoulders and decided to test the sandwich makers mettle and filled out a short form calling for a roast beef and turkey sandwich on wheat. My sandwich was prepared shortly thereafter and snapped me back into reality. Wrapped ever so delicately in paper, I unfolded the delicatessen treasure and admired the gratuitous amount of toppings and luncheon meat inside. Upon my first bite, I cast aside the notion that this was a mirage and chose instead to enjoy the fleeting moment. A complex juxtaposition of textures and flavors, it seemed as though this mere sandwich had ascended into songs of legend. I nearly inhaled the first half to assuage my pangs of hunger and chose to savor the second half instead. It was just as scintillating to my taste buds as the first. As I finished my sandwich, I gingerly folded the paper in honor of what I had just eaten, much like one folds a flag at a formal military funeral, and lowered it into the trashcan. I came here this morning for the first time, with my 2.5 year old daughter in tow. The parking situation is less than desirable... but I parked across from Bill's Wheels, and we walked the short distance. I was instantly struck with the thought that this place was like "Acme Coffee" but in bakery-form. Sparse, Retro, high-quality. I liked the black and white checked floor, and the sparkly pink diner chairs. The menu is hand-written on a huge chalkboard, which adds to the charm-factor. I later learned that the do in fact, serve Acme Coffee. :) I chatted with Ana, and asked her some questions about their offerings. They had mondo-huge muffins for $3.00 each. (Apple-Cinnamon, and Chocolate Chocolate chip with a powdered-sugar glaze) We opted for the chocolate, and a milk for my kiddo, bottled water for me, it was $5.00. Not bad. They didn't have straws available yet (Ana said they ordered some) but she was nice enough to retrieve one from the back ( She explained that she'd made herself a smoothie from one of the boxed juices in the cooler, and kept the straw.) :) There were an assortment of breads, a round focaccia, sourdough loaves, baguettes, brioche, and ciabatta. Also, Mexican Wedding cookies, and a pastry made from Brioche, cinnamon and sugar were among the highlights. There were huge racks of cooling baked goods, and everything is obviously baked fresh! My daughter and I shared the giant muffin, which was good, chocolaty, and not overly sweet. Moist, yet crumbly. Messy, for sure. We enjoyed it, and I plan to return and try their lunch offerings. The absolute best sourdough sliced for sandwich i've had-crusty and dense. Many different aiolis, I've tried the cilantro and chipotle. The Bakery Station has become a go-to lunch stop for our office when we want something that feels a little healthier than burgers but a little more substantial than a salad. For us, the Bel-Air sandwich is by far the hands-down favorite here. Loads of turkey, bacon and delicious toppings. We usually have to ask them to go light on the mayo, as they really tend to slather it on. Take note, though - this sandwich is HUGE. Far too big for anyone except maybe a teenage boy to eat on his/her own. I always split this with a coworker. As for their other offerings...they are just kind of 'meh'. Some are good but not great, others are downright nasty. The pulled pork is delicious, but both times I've had it, I've spent the rest of the afternoon feeling sick to my stomach. Same goes for the tri-tip sandwich special they had a few months back - delicious, but left me feeling sick. Their cookies are good, but again, we always end up splitting. It seems to be a common theme among their items. I believe at one point, someone must have told the bakers that "bigger is always better" when it comes to baked goods. Unfortunately, they've taken that a bit too far - too big can often mean dry, and if I don't have others with me, I don't want to pay higher prices just to dump half my food in the garbage because there's too much of it. Portion sizes are a tricky balance - we complain if they're too small, we complain if they're too big. I get it, it's hard to figure out. But just take a look at one of their cookies or one of their sandwiches. It's one thing to be a little on the big side. It's another to serve items so big you'd think your regular clientele were NFL players. We mostly go to the Bakery Station because it is convenient to our office and we have learned over time what to get on the menu to ensure a good experience. We rarely venture from our standard order at this point, and based on past experiences with their other sandwiches, I'd be afraid to order anything else at this point. read more

Anyone looking for this place may pass it, as the bakery looks like an abandoned gas station given a new coat of paint. It has a one-way road on one side, and a busy road on the other, making getting to the bakery a bit of a trick if you're not a local. Monterey Rd. is the easiest way to get there, if you do not already know. If you need a quick lunch, this place rocks! They have a few sandwiches they've made their signature menu, and a few baked goods that one can't really lose out trying at least once. My favorite is their version of a plain Pop-Tart, though get the one with fruit filling and not the peanut butter, unless you really like that sort of thing. Their sandwiches have excellent greens, not iceberg lettuce like most other places use, thinking it healthy--kills your small animals, people!!. they also use good meat, and heap it on a fresh roll. If none of their options entice, you can also create your own using a sheet with various selections. If you're not adventurous, this is the best direction. Baked goods are nom nom nom. Their scones are huge, and will fill you up quick. Their other baked goods are just as tasty, else they would not have lasted at this inconvenient location as long as they have!! My 4-star worthy complaint is a lack for AC in the very small building. Often times, it is far too hot to eat there. If it's hot outside, you will bake with the bread inside the building. Getting something to go, and navigating traffic from their location is not always possible on a lunch break and the lunch rush often makes getting where you need to be tough due to passing traffic. They are also not open very late, making an early trip necessary, or not at all. Overall, great place for lunch or breakfast items, and a great sandwich alternative to the usual suspects you get in Salinas! read more

Very disappointed I eat sandwiches at this place before and I saw Tri Tip sandwich on Friday I went and got one is almost $10.00 with taxes which I don't mind as long as it is worth it but to my surprise it's just a big bread with a very little tri tip with some dressing (no lettuce, tomatoes onion anything). Extremely plain the only thing you can taste it's great huge bread which at some point I got tired of it got the two little pieces of meat a throw away the rest of bread and the meat don't even taste. Well....said I'd try the Tri-tip Friday special, and I'm glad I did. I give it 9/10. This is the best Tri-Tip sandwich I've had in the Salinas area. The meat is not smothered in sauce to mask that the meat is not well seasoned or bland. The way they cook the Tri-Tip is better than any BBQ place around( that's sad!) I would pay for just the Tri-Tip for parties or events. The bread they paired with the sandwich was also excellent. The sauce had a nice kick, but not in any way overpowering. OK...the only reason I gave it 9/10 was the cut of the Tri-Tip. I know...you're probably thinking why is the cut important? Tri-tip cut with the grain makes it very tough to chew. I was introduced to this place because our office ordered from here regularly and then I started going on my own. I always order the Bel-Aire. What these sandwiches really have going for them is the creative mixes of veggies and meats and the bread. The baked goods get 2 stars, at best. As mentioned in other reviews they are huge. They are also hugely dry and tasteless. Sometimes when I go if I have a sugar craving and they have something new I break down and buy it - but I always regret it later. Hole in the wall sandwich place. I had the pesto panini sandwich, which was the only vegetarian option, but it was tasty. My friend had a Bel Air and it was so large she could only eat half. Serving size is large. Price is a couple bucks more than a Subway but the quality is superior. The interior is small and the service is minimal--you order at front and pick up. After strolling Main Street after First Fridays Art walk (http://www.artistasunidos.org/Fridays.htmI) I heard the sound of music around the corner. Parked in front of the Bakery Station was a local punk band, with some amps playing pretty loud. For me, the music was more amusing than entertaining, but I thought it was a cool scene for a sleepy town. The bakery-host of this event is based at an old gas station and has classic cars parked out front, hence the name. I had already had a proper meal, but couldn't resist a chocolate chip cookie. Baked to perfection, no skimping on the chips. I really liked the friendly staff. The girl behind the counter said it was a family business - I forget the exact relationships but sisters and cousins and friends "who are like family" working together. Art on the wall was a youth immigrant photography project - a good nod to local issues. I could taste the love in that one cookie- going back for more soon. read more
