Review for the Bakery only~ This is my favorite Mexican Bakery in Castroville. They make the BEST apple filled bear claws here! Lots of apple chunks and excellent pastry with plenty of icing and almonds on top. I don't even miss the almond paste. You have to get here early for these as they sell out fast. The pineapple empanada is also good with plenty of filling and a cookie like crust with chunks of pineapple inside. I also love their big corn bread/muffin/cupcakes with raspberry filling. They're super moist like cornbread cake. Really good! The ladies are always nice. Ring the bell by the register for service because they're always in the back.

If you enjoy good food like I do you will see past the strip mall, dishelved little bakery atmosphere... it took me a few minutes of shouting hello and hola before a lady who was washing the dishes in the far back came out but I'm so glad she did. I had heard from a local that 2 different places in Castroville sell the best burritos... I only remember that one started with an "F' so I guessed here and I'm guessing I was correct. Ping-Pong. Killer chicken and asada burritos. I enjoyed them at home... perfect blend of meat, beans, rice and salsa. I did add some crema and hot sauce from my own personal fridge but either way so good. I didn't even warm them up they looked so good. I got the smaller size but next time I know to go "grande" as I could probably finish one very quickly in a sitting considering how good they are!

DISAPPOINTED,,,,, We've been going to Phil's for over 30…read moreyears, first at the original location in Moss Landing and more recently at the new location in Castroville. We've always been pleased, but not this past Sunday. We met friends for dinner, and we were both disappointed. I found the Prawn Fettucini Alfredo to be under-cooked. The prawns were fine, but the pasta wasn't fully cooked, and it had the taste and feel of uncooked flour. My side salad had far too much dressing and the mixed greens were very wilted. My companion ordered the Shrimp Skewer Salad. It was swimming in dressing and like my small salad it was made up primarily of wilted greens. We also thought that, given the poor quality of the meal, $22 for her salad and $32 for my pasta were definitely on the high side, especially at a place where you order your food at a counter and then dine in what amounts to "school lunch rom" ambience.

Cute new spic-and-span location in Castroville! Cafe and adjacent fish market. Got some…read morespectactular swordfish... best we've ever had. Also scored some big scallops and a bucket of their signature Cioppino to take home. What a feast! By the way, swordfish does extraordinarily well when reverse seared: 250 degree convection oven until 120 degrees internally, then crank up the broiler until 145 degrees internally. Ambrosia. Works for any thick cut: salmon, marlin, yellowtail, ahi... Dust it first with Paul Prudhomme's Seafood Magic for an extra treat.

My husband and I were driving back from Big Sur and we were going to go to giant artichoke…read more However, I saw signs that said Pezzini farms and advertised all what they had. I immediately had my husband take that exit and check it out. When I saw artichokes artichokes and more artichokes,, I was sold. I went there to look and see what they had. We found so many amazing items! We purchased pasta sauce, artichoke salsa, artichoke focaccia, bread, artichoke bread, artichoke sweet bread, like banana bread, but with artichokes, we bought actual artichokes, artichoke pizza, and mushroom pizza, frozen deep-fried artichokes, a Japanese black watermelon, a cactus plant, artichoke raviolis, and some amazing soft English muffins. Very unique. I know it was a lot, but we don't live close by so we wanted to stock up. What I really like about this place is the friendly people there especially Sara and there was another gal that unfortunately I didn't get her name and the fact that all the artichoke items are from the artichoke fields there and they support local/family bakers and businesses. We also went to the "Choke Coach" it was recommended by Sara. It was on the premises and it was a food truck that primarily sold artichoke related items. I ordered the three artichoke tacos, which were amazing and the grilled artichokes with a lime cilantro dip. Very yummy! My husband ordered a bratwurst sandwich. The people working there, Maria and Bety we're very friendly and great cooks and customer service I was so glad we made that turn off the freeway! This place is a true gem. They also have cornhole to play while you're waiting for your food or just want to enjoy some fun for a minute. There was a cute, big chair for a Kodak moment

Cute spot but talk about highway robbery no pun intended…read more I would have walked away satisfied if I was held at gunpoint and my wallet was taken instead of paying $11 for 5 fried artichokes the size of quarters. I will continue to stop at Pezzini to drop my loads but skip the food truck in the lot. Some of the worst fried artichokes in the central coast
