Let me start by saying that I had previously enjoyed going to The Bar Method for their classes -- they're a great way to stay in shape. That was until the new owner, Lauren Wood, decided to make anyone coming in through ClassPass or Wellhub feel as though they're taking advantage of her by not paying her directly. She emailed to say she planned to leave these platforms and asked me to pay for a membership through her instead. I declined, since I already pay quite a bit for my Wellhub membership, which allows me to attend a variety of classes across different studios. I had booked a class for 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, and at 8:20 p.m. tonight, Lauren canceled it -- because she wanted to "save space" for people who pay her directly. So even though I booked an available class in advance, I was bumped to make room for someone who might pay her a few dollars more. I had a small window to work out tomorrow, and her last-minute cancellation made it impossible for me to find an alternative. Could you even top this kind of horrible customer service? What a joke. Lauren wants to have her cake and eat it too - stay on these platforms to keep the revenue flowing but eject low paying customers from their booked spot if she can fill it with "higher value" clients. Don't worry, Lauren -- I won't be "lowering your standards" by coming back to your studio. I'm so sorry you received such a pittance for my attendance. At this point, I'd rather work out anywhere else. Pure Barre, for example, offers more challenging classes -- and guess what? They're always happy to see me. read more

I love the sense of community and support that I feel when I go to the Bar Method. It's the only workout class I've done where I didn't feel like others were judging me and I didn't feel like I needed to measure up by getting heavier weights, stretching further, etc. I love that Bar Method acknowledges people's differences and offers modifications to different poses. My mom is actually the one who first signed me up for Bar when they were running a promo since she wanted someone to go with her. Honestly, I thought I'd go a couple times with her and that would be it. When our promo days ended, my mom and I made a pact to continue going to Bar Method until our vacation a couple months later. I had lost a little weight, my clothes weren't fitting as tight, and I figured it would be good to keep going to slim down a little more before our trip. The big turning point for me was actually on my vacation. About 5 days in, I started missing Bar class! As amazing as it was to be in Europe, a small part of me was really looking forward to going home and getting back to Bar classes. This is something that's never happened to me before. With previous workout plans, diets, etc. whenever I had a break for whatever reason, I could never seem to get back into the swing of things. The friendliness and support of the teachers and other clients has been amazing and unmatched with any other workout class I've tried! I tried the Bar Method in my mid twenties when I was in the best shape of my life and hated it. I went back 10 years later after illness and 50 pounds of weight gain and it has been a key piece in my healing of some quite serious illness. I've since tried other workouts to see if they would compare in impact (Pure Barre, the Dailey Method, other various at-home workouts) - and nothing compared for me. This place cured my pain, helps me stay sane, and keeps me accountable. It's a hard but SAFE workout. I also think it's approachable for all shapes and sizes and ages (I brought my 68 year old mom who doesn't exercise and she was fine, and sore). There are adjustments or variations if the position is too difficult for muscularly or due to an injury. It's an accepting, compassionate yet disciplined environment. All the teachers get some serious training and know what they're doing. They also have a variety of times for classes which I love --- I tend to go in the morning before kids wake up so that's really helpful, especially since most gyms and group workouts these days don't have early enough classes for us parents. The facilities are beautifully appointed and always white-glove clean! The entire staff makes an effort to know your name - great customer service. I've been taking classes 2-3 times a week at Bar Method's studio in Lake Oswego over the past month. The LO studio is brand-new and beautiful - plus it has a parking lot, which was the deciding factor for me when I choose between it and the Pearl studio. As someone who hates the gym and has a terrible track record when it comes to working out, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I really enjoy barre workouts. Each class is essentially broken up into a number of 10-15 minute sections that target specific muscle groups in your body (arms, then calves, then thighs, then abs) - while simultaneously strengthening your core muscles throughout the hour. So for someone like me who doesn't want to commit to working out more than an hour, 2 or 3 days a week, I've found barre to be the most bang for my buck. Another thing I appreciate about barre is that it can be done at pretty much any level of fitness. Most all of the movements can be modified to increase or decrease their level of difficulty. There are always strength challenges you can add and posture improvements you can make that help you work harder each class and keep your muscles from getting too used to the movements. I've been pretty consistently taking Megan's classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays and I highly recommend them! But all of the instructors are great and they work with you individually throughout the duration of the class to make sure your posture is right and you're getting the most out of each movement. Quite honestly the best workout I've ever gotten. I've slacked off the last many years when it comes to my physical health and decided to take plunge and try The Bar Method after many friends had shared how much they love it. I was a faithful boot camper and spin class taker. After years of constant back pain and chiropractor visits I knew it was time to switch up my workouts. A couple of my girlfriends referred me to the LO Bar Method and instantly I was hooked! I love that they have such a wide range of class times, and all the instructors are wonderful! I have been exercising at The Bar Method Lake Oswego 5 days a week for 4 months. After having my third kid, my body was weak, injured and out of shape. I needed to be more gentle on my postpartum body so that I wouldn't cause more injury to my Diastasis Recti (abdominal separation) and weak pelvic floor. I chose this type of workout for the attention to form, for the slow precise movements and the challenge to push a little harder. In 4 months, I've lost 1 and 3/4 inches from my hips and an inch around my stomach. I've lost 1/4 inches in other parts of my body but the most significant have been my hips and stomach. I'm a little disappointed that I've only lost 4 pounds (I have a 20 lb weight loss goal) but I'm also still breastfeeding and don't tend to lose weight as fast during that time. I definitely have more muscle tone but it's currently hiding underneath some layers of fat that need to come off Overall, my flexibility has improved tremendously, I leave class feeling taller with better posture and most importantly, it has been great for my mental health. I have visited this studio twice with my mom. I'm not usually a person who enjoys working out or enjoys group classes but both times I came to Bar Method I loved it. I've been taking bar classes on and off for over 6 years now (moving/proximity to a studio, work schedules, having babies, etc have prevented me from keeping it up at points of my life). It is such a fantastic total body workout. I'm always amazed at how quickly I see my body change every time I get back into it.. after about 3 weeks of classes 4 times a week to start out. I've taken pure barre, barre3 and bar method (just depending on where I've lived and what is nearby)... all are great, but bar method is definitely my favorite and this studio is fabulous! All the instructions were so helpful, motivating, and patient with me as my flabby mom body slowly gained strength again. Unfortunately I'm going to have to do mostly online classes and occasional drop in classes for the unforeseeable future as my husbands work schedule makes it nearly impossible for me to attend the available classes right now. But I constantly tell people how I can't wait until my kids are in school and I'll have the time to make bar method classes a regular part of my weekly routine, for the long term!
