This review is for the Avenues location since I was unable to locate them on Yelp. It is one of my favorite go-to fitness studios for barre classes. There's ample parking in the streets. The studio and restroom are super clean and bright. There are storage caddies to place your personal belongings in. The staff at the front desk makes me feel so welcomed. All smiles and good energy, which makes such a difference! I usually enjoy their "express" class. It's 45 mins, but condensed, easy to follow, and fast-paced. What's so important to me is how the instructor provides training and corrects my posture. I believe the right posture and movements make a difference for an optimal result. Sounds and looks like an easy class, but it's fun and challenging. Most importantly, I feel amazing after. One of the reasons why this studio makes me feel like it's something to look forward to. read more

I took my first class here tonight and WOW!!!! The bar class kicked my booty. I do fitness classes pretty regularly but hadn't done a bar class in a few years and this class worked so many different muscles I didn't even know existed. It has only been a couple of hours and I already feel sore. Aside from the class being phenomenal, I want to highlight the studio itself. The staff there are extremely helpful and welcoming. From the second I walked in the door, I was greeted and instructed on where to go/what was needed. All three staff members working at the time acknowledged me and I instantly felt comfortable although it was my first visit here. The owner Carrie couldn't be more sweet and passionate about what she does. She also made it a point to make it around the room, assisting each one of us in the class. I purchased the package of three while on vacation and it was such a treat! The ladies are all so friendly and welcoming. The instructors were so knowledgeable and just really good at showing me little tweaks to make the workout even more effective. They have a great selection of sticky socks and workout apparel. I even bought some super soft undies that work well under thin workout pants. My MIL who had never taken a barre class loved it. She described it as a good balance between her yoga and Pilates. read more

When you're are hooked on The Bar Method and you are traveling, one makes sure to visit a studio. Lucky me! I'm signed up with the actual owner. Once I entered, I am immediately greeted by two friendly people. They also welcome my family who plans to wait until I finish class. This studio is hip and roomy! I'm surprised by the size of the lobby filled with tempting retail options. They have a co-ed restroom, a place to charge your phone, a sale section perfectly placed by the fully stocked locker room and refillable water station. Carrie pushed me and kicked my butt. As she worked the room, it felt like she was able to provide individualized attention to each student. I loved the class and appreciate everything they offer. It was well worth the 45 minute drive to get there. If it all works, I might try to make it back before I head home. read more

I just freaking love the Bar Method. I took my first series of classes here about 5 years ago, and remember the feeling I felt driving home after early morning classes: elated, feeling seriously kick-ass, and healthy, and ready to start the day.... and that endorphin high after class still continues 5 years later. Bar Method classes are excellent. They have the flow down, and the class just flies by. It is a low impact workout, but that doesn't mean it won't work you out. You will feel it. You'll feel the shake throughout class, and you'll feel it throughout the day (and probably the next day, too). The time seriously flies, and each section of workout has a quick stretch in between, which provides for a great mini break. You will do a lot of bar work, obviously. But you will also do a lot of weight work, planks, push ups, booty work, leg work, arms... legit every part of your body will be worked, stretched, and strengthened. Throughout class, be ready for verbal corrections for better body mechanics. The instructors are amazingly great at learning names (even for new comers) and will assist you in better performance, and overall workout. Every instructor I've taken a class from is fabulous, and they are great at shaking up exercises per workout. It's a great community here. Early morning bar classes are my favorite. After class, I drive back to downtown SLC, and I legit feel on top of the world. Every. Single. Time. This workout is perfect for anyone. DO IT. read more

This place does everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, right! I recently moved here from LA, and also have been a yoga instructor for 16 yrs. so I wasn't prepared to be impressed. First off, the place is amazing. Easy parking, friendly and knowledgeable front desk. Easy sign in process. Everyone was extremely welcoming. There's a phone charging station, keurig coffee, mints, dry shampoo, contact solution! Etc. The amenities alone were even better than the high end gym I came from. But all of that means nothing without a great class. And I'm soooo picky and believe me when I tell you it was a GREAT class. This was my first bar method class ever, but I've worked in the fitness industry for most of my life and this was one of the best sculpting workouts I've ever experienced. It was challenging but accessible. The teacher was clearly an expert and gave me the perfect cues and adjustments. The hour flew by. I'm old. I have so many weird injuries and I never felt rushed or pushed to do too much. But all of my muscles are sore right now. In the good way! I am excited to make this part of my routine! It's perfect for ANY level. I promise! This is the most out of shape I've ever been and I didn't feel like I was left out of any move here. I love this place. I've been coming here for about two years now. Before discovering Bar Method, I didn't really like going to gym that much and especially wasn't that motivated to go by myself. Now, I love working out, and I'm perfectly fine going on my own. Why? Bar Method isn't just a gym/ studio that you workout at, but it's like your extended family/ friend. The staff and instructor are extremely friendly and caring. They try to get to know you if you're opened to it. You're not treated as just another member coming in and out. A student, is only as good as the instructor/instruction that they are given. The good thing about Bar Method compared to other Bar Studios is that the instructors are knowledgeable in their field. Not just in the exercise, but also in the anatomy of the body. They know how to modify exercises for those with injuries or present people with options if they want something harder or easier. This is why Bar Method is for everyone (male, female, pregnant, in shape or out shape). The instructors go through a training process which is not not just a few hours or days, but a couple of months, and they get evaluated not just once when they are trying to become an instructor but throughout their teaching career, so that you your instructor is up to date and not teaching non-sense. As for the studio, the first thing I noticed when I went to another studio and what made me appreciate Bar Method is that the floors are padded which is softer on your feet and knees. Another benefit compared to other studios, which is a plus for me because I'm short, is that they offer bars of different heights and raiser mats. You might not think this is a big deal, but it is a plus for people that are taller and shorter because it makes it more comfortable holding the bar in certain position. The riser mats help people like me engage certain muscles (abs, arms and etc.) that wouldn't be possible if you were at another studio in certain exercises (round back) because you wouldn't be able to push against the bar to engage and contract your abs. Instead, you're just holding on with your arms straight which doesn't give you the full benefit of the workout. They have other equipment as well to help with the exercise and to engage and stretch your muscles in different ways, such as weights, ball, strap and mini mats. Now, for the exercise, I will say if you're not a fan of routine or following instruction nor constructive criticism this isn't the exercise for you. The instructor will either touch or instruct you to change your position to put you in the right form for the exercise. As for routine, no matter what studio in whatever state you attend their is a format that they follow in the sense that every class will have a warm up and have certain things they have to do within that warm up, there will be exercises that engage you thighs, bottoms abs and arms. Each class will have the same format in what is thought, but the exercises to engage these muscles will be different from class to class. With every class, you will be getting a full body workout. The difference between Bar Method and other forms of exercise is that their is a stretching component that is implemented into their exercise routine. This will help lengthen your muscles and engage it in a different way. What you will feel? You're going to look at the instructor and be like I can do this when she demonstrates the exercise, and then you get into position and do it and you're like OMG my legs are shaking like crazy, my butt hurts or I cant hold this position. You know what? Dont think you're the only one that feels like this cause everyone else feels your pain as well . You will be sore in places that you never think you could be sore in. I can tell you that my body has change a lot since my first class. I made the mistake of taking classes back to back when I first started and I could not move the next day, and I had to have people roll me around in my office chair because I couldn't sit for a long time then get up and walk. I do recommend some rest in between until your body gets use to the exercise. My body doesn't just look toner, but it's more flexible. When, I first moved here I went to Salt Lake Ballet and I can tell you that Bar Method has helped me get the majority, but not all of my flexibility back to almost when I was dancer in a safe and decently fast way compared to Salt Lake Ballet. I'm not saying that Bar Method will make you as flexible as a ballerina, but it will help with you flexibility. If you have gotten through my long review, I'm assuming you're interested in trying them out. This place is perfect for anyone who would like to get in shape. I attended my first class last night and the instructors were incredible. The enthusiasm they brought to the studio is outstanding. Which was well needed, because it distracted me while the workout got harder! I am definitely going to be back and will bring a friend next time. This was the first time I've taken a Barre class and I'm happy to say it was one of the hardest workouts I've ever done. It really did make me sore the next day so I'm putting it down as a success. The teachers here were very attentive and amazing at explaining the movements, which I appreciate because even though the class was small (7 women), I was the only first timer. I loved the hands on approach as a lot of time it's hard to jump into a class and follow along. Great Location, great instructors, and lovely facility overall. My only complaint is that their website for scheduling needs some work and the prices are not kind to students. The site glitches when trying to purchase classes and not all of the packages options are shown each time I log in so half the time the student options aren't even available with their descriptions. The ones offered on the online store also aren't featured on the actual site page showing membership types. If this was no longer the case so I could more easily find what I want, I would definitely go back! read more

I just attended my first Yelp Fit Club event tonight at The Bar Method and loved it so much that I signed up both myself AND my husband for a membership! I definitely did not expect to do that going in but loved the class. The class is a strength training class that's fast paced, not like yoga which I often find very slow. My husband and I have been looking for a good yoga class for years and never found anything worth signing up for but this I can see us loving and going to often. What really sold me was not just the class, but the fact that they have several levels and classes 7 days a week! In addition, both the owner, who taught half the class, and the other instructors and help were all very friendly and great people. I also loved that they had instructors walking around helping to adjust your position the whole time. Love this place! read more

Oh, Bar Method, how I love thee... now. I spent the last three years intimidated by The Bar Method and the flexible ballerina bodies that I believed lurked inside... Until finally, I was persuaded into trying a 6 am class by fellow barre believer, Ivane L. On a snowy Friday morning, I hesitantly slipped on some ankle socks and gripped and tucked my way through my first Bar Method class with Katie. After those first 60 minutes flew by without a single glance at the clock and my FitBit registered some 200+ calories burned, I was instantly hooked! Let's start at the beginning: 1. Scheduling is a breeze. Bar Method uses the MindBody app for booking, and they confirm bookings through both email and text message. Some key classes fill up ahead of time, but I highly recommend joining the wait list, and then keep checking your email for a "class added" notification. 2. Lisa at the front desk is a delight to see on those early mornings when I was contemplating not coming to class, but so glad I did. She's cheery, helpful, sympathetic to us newbies, and has a sense of humor that will stop you in your tracks. She also breezes through the class, setting out large mats and again putting them away, like a wizard. 3. The teachers are rad. Some more than others (because for-real, who doesn't play favorites?) but all of them have their own strengths. I personally adore Katie, because she was my first barre teacher at TBM and delights the crap out of me with her alignment talk. Anyone who knows me, knows how anatomy-speak makes me go weak in the knees. 4. The other classmates come in all body shapes, sizes, fitness backgrounds and genders (yes, even men attend - and teach! - barre). Everyone was a new student at some point. Walking into a barre class for the first time - some people have their space on the bar that you don't want to get in the way of, but other than that, everyone is helpful as to what props you need and how exactly to point and flex, and they've all been in your newbie grip socks (not literally). And I haven't met even one intimidating doing-ballet-since-birth classmate (not that there is anything wrong with that). A couple things to keep in mind: - Show up early (10-15 minutes) if you want a particular spot on the bar. There are also different bars of various heights. At 5' 4'' I'm short, and need to be on the short bar, so I show up early to make sure of it. - Invest in a pair of grip socks. They sell TBM branded socks in the lobby. - The new student pass is a great way to try out all the teachers and classes before you commit to a schedule. Some classes score higher on the calories-burned scale, while some will leave you with more of an after-burn and sore the next day. Pick your pleasure. - Most important: You'll get bigger before you lean out. This was probably the most difficult thing for me to wrap my head around, but it was explained to me in a way I can relate: You'll start gaining muscles in areas that used to be soft(er) and those muscles will start pushing against your clothes in areas that used to be soft and squishy. For me, this was in my thighs and butt and I was devastated when my jeans started to feel snug about my 3rd week into barre. This is normal. Don't stop attending classes. I'm in week 5 now and things are starting to lean out and fit better. - Lastly, don't feel picked on when the instructor calls out your name 20 times in a single class. They just want to make sure you're in it to win it (aka shake yourself silly) and will make adjustments to your posture and stance so you get the most effective workout in your 60-minutes. read more

I became a VIP member and get unlimited classes a month which is the best bang for your buck. The instructors get to you know name immediately and help you every day throughout class to improve. I started coming to bar in May 2016. I thought that I would give it a "try". I was tired of my "normal" gym workout and I had tried a couple of other barre classes. {which are nothing like the Bar Method} I remember coming home and saying to my husband-I liked it but I don't know if I will continue after my pass expired. Well that changed after class 5-I was an addict! I love everything about Bar Method-the instructors, the studio, everything! I tell others that while Bar Method is addicting it does something for me that NOTHING I have done before has done. It mentally challenges me while relaxes me. I might not see the changes that others see but what I do know is that my muscles are lengthening and the days that I am not in class are the days I say to myself "needed the bar". I love the challenges that are given to us-monthly! I can't imagine going back to "the gym" ever. I am looking forward to reaching my 200th class!! I literally was so impressed with the Bar Method in sugar house. I really cannot express how much I love it. I walked in casually just thinking to go to one class, because I loved the barre classes at my gym, but wanted more time options. My first session was free, and I ended up buying a membership for a discounted rate. The memberships were never pushed, but it was such a great deal, I couldn't resist. Furthermore, what impressed me the most was that EVERY staff knew my name from day one. Each time I go to a new class, the instructor makes it a POINT to know my name and a little about me and my history. They help me and say goodbye when I leave. Knowing my name was a huge deal. The level of customer service is amazing. I really cannot give them enough praise. I walk into every class knowing I am going to get a personalized work out and that they care about me. I would recommend this place to all my friends. Going to a gym class where I am one in a million isn't worth it anymore since I've been here. Keep up the good work, and I am now a lifetime client.
