This gym is absolutely phenomenal! They don't mention in their website that they are attached to a hotel. Coffee shop and ski shops. I've been to the other bouldering projects in DC and New York and this location really lives up. Their day passes are extremely affordable and the setting is top notch. For instance even on lower grades there are dynos, double knee bars, everything! The staff are extremely helpful and welcoming. My only suggestion and perhaps it's because the slab wall was being reset, there wasn't a lot of crimpy movements. For sure there was a lot of big moves. I would Definitely be back!

Between semi-finals and finals, this is where all pro climbers hang out apparently!

Love this bouldering gym! I wish they have one in the bay area, well, south bay. I was in SLC twice earlier this year, and I was able to check it out a few times. The place is in adjacent to a hotel, a shop and something else, and it has a coffee shop right outside, which adds a huge bonus point for me. Coffee and snacks are necessities before or after bouldering. I love how spacious and diverse the walls are, huge areas for slabs, overhang, no problem, roofs, yes, top out walls yes. The route settings are also super interesting and fun! Only part I am not super used to is the color system. Instead of marking it exactly grade V something, they use a color to represent a span of V grades. So it could be a V3 or a V5, and we know that from V3 to V5, it's actually a pretty large difficulty gap. But the fun part of it is that it's encouraging you to try out something you may not even want to try, if that's out of your comfort zone. So I like it! On a weekday nights, it's not super crowded, so plus point again. During the world cup weekend, it's packed with pro climbers and normies like me. To me, that was magical.

Came here with my friend on a guest pass. Apparently you are only allowed your first visit free. Facilities are inside the EVO Hotel SLC. Everything is hip and new and cool. Holds are well maintained and routes were rotated since the last time my friend was there. They have great crash pads surrounding all the walls. Cups and bottles must be off the mats. Great variety of climbing grades. Staff is very friendly and laid back. Nice vibes. There's also a coffeeshop just outside the front, I got a sweet lavender matcha latte!

great bouldering with new routes weekly. great environment with nice coffee shop and sports equipment store. not super cheap for day passes but worth the $20.

9/7 Update: Cathy Waters, the Manager of The Gym has terminated my contract and had me escorted…read morefrom The Gym because of my honest and thorough review. I've worked out at Golds, Eos, Vasa, Planet, and 24 in the last few years. This is my second time being a member of The Gym and I'm regretting it more than the first time. The Gym is by far the worst managed gym out of all the choices you have along the Wasatch front and at their price point I expect a lot more. Entrances: there are two entrances to the gym. One on Regent Street with two elevators that go to the third floor where the gym is located. These doors lock in the late afternoon causing you to be forced to use the second entrance further north. This entrance is accessed through the busiest elevator at the mall. Expect to wait 3-5 minutes during prime time or even more during the holidays. The gym itself: It's dirty, poorly managed, and the equipment isn't maintained well. Here is a list of things currently broken or needing attention: Hip abductor linkage is worn out and causes lots of play making it unusable. I pointed this out to maintenance staff in June. Still not fixed. 9/5/20 Seated leg curl has been broke for three weeks. 9/5/20 Handles on lateral raise machine won't adjust making it difficult to use depending on your height and frame size. They tried a cheap fix by putting oversized bolts in it but actually made it worse as now the handles don't adjust at all. 9/5/20 The 5 lb adjustment on the laying leg curl Machine is missing the non-removable spring loaded pin. Currently there's some random pin in it that you can completely remove allowing the weight to drop unexpectedly. 9/5/20 Multiple incline benches are missing their knobs making adjusting the bench difficult and risk pinching your fingers. 9/5/20 Worn out, cracking vinyl on multiple benches. 9/5/20 The foot plate on the calf raise machine is missing 2/3 bolts holding it on the machine and is very loose. If that last bolt shears off like the other two, someone gonna get hurt. 9/5/20 Both non-removable pins on the lat pull down machines are missing and have random pins from other machines in them allowing for lots of play when you use it. 9/5/20 Worn out pads on pat pull down. These have been like this since 2018. 9/5/20 The north decline bench presses is missing a pad making it unusable. 9/5/20 One of the two stair masters isn't level and wobbles while you're using it. I'm writing this review on it now. Wobble wobble wobble with every step. 9/5/20 Emergency stop button on stair master doesn't work. They covered it up with black electrical tape instead of replacing the button. 9/5/20 The two spin bikes in the Cardio Cinema are unusable. 9/5/20 Vibration Plate hasn't worked for over a year. 9/5/20 Multiple drinking fountains are missing activation buttons. 9/5/20 Steam room in men's locker room has been broken for well over a month. 9/5/20 It's always hot as hell. As I wrote this review, it's 76 degrees in the area with all the cardio machines. 9/5/20 This gym could be great but it needs better management and some capital investment instead of it being used as a cash cow like it is now.

I add my voice to the countless others in stating that The Gym has great potential under proper…read moremanagement. The space is large, with many desired amenities, and a great equipment selection (although under serious decay). This was the gym that Salt Lake needed, when it first opened. However, maintenance and the addressing of member concerns are of little concern to Cathy, the manager. The Gym has an unfortunate monopoly, allowing the institution to move forward with little consequence, paying no heed to member-realized issues. They rely heavily on large company contracts, giving little concern to those of us who individually pay for this "premium" space. There is a full-time maintenance manager, I repeat a FULL-TIME maintenance personal, but you would never know it. The facility to sorely under-kept. The showers are molding, in desperate need of a cleaning and re-caulking. Equipment will remain under "repair" for weeks on end, and up until recently, the space was filthy. They have recently hired a seemingly full-time cleaner, Claire, who is a sweetheart and does a wonderful job in dusting and wiping down equipment. However, after so many years of neglect and lack of concern, management has allowed a culture of not cleaning up mutual work spaces to grow. Weights and other items are left strewn everywhere. Towels are often ripped and should be referred to as a hand-towel as they are barely large enough to wrap around one's body. The hot tub has been down for over two months, and the steam room has been non-functioning for over two weeks, with no notice or email sent to members keeping us abreast on the situation, offering apologies for the inconvenience. Instead time and resources are focus on silly line-items such as ensuring the light in the sauna stays on and is bright enough to perform open-heart surgery, or ordering hideous, unnecessary furniture and art. Further evidence of mismanagement is seen in the fact that they have a very difficult time keeping employees. Workers seem to stick around but a moment. I am anxious to see their monopoly pedestal erode with Eos announcing its move to purchase the 24hr fitness space in trolley square, opening 2024. You've got a year Cathy, to show us how great this gym can be, otherwise you'll watch as all the gays take our business to a cleaner, newer space. It's also key to note that I'm posting this review, concerned that I will be revoked of my membership for letting my voice be heard. I should never feel as such, under any circumstance.
