Can't say enough good things about this studio! Have been to the Brentwood location, which is now under different ownership, but loved the vibes at this location. They are very safe with COVID guidelines, have a large studio space, clean bathrooms, lockers, a locker room with a shower and scale, and most importantly, the nicest staff! The girl at the front desk was extremely friendly and welcoming, as was the teacher, Katie. Katie had a fun playlist and came around to check and make sure everyone received the adjustments they needed to properly engage in class. Support this small business and take their classes! The Bar Method is hands down my favorite bar class, and I've tried MANY of them over the past 10 years. All of the instructors at Bar Method WeHo are fabulous. They remember everyone by name (even if it's your first class) and really pay attention to everyone's form, which is super important for a workout like this where moving one inch can make a big difference! I take classes 3-5 times a week and I find it's the best workout to keep my body toned and strong, my posture straight, and the best part: my booty lifted ;) As other reviewers mention, the Zoom classes during Covid have been wonderful. It's so great to be able to take a class at home and still get the same attention that you would inside the studio. I also LOVE all the fun challenges that Mimi comes up with! Lovely studio space and wonderful people who work and teach there! I transferred from another studio after covid and life changes meant my schedule wasn't well-aligned with the other location. They have Zoom classes, which I love, because I don't have to drive anywhere and can still get real-time feedback and corrections from the instructors when I have my camera on. Plus, I leave every class feeling like I truly got a good workout in. I live about an hour, to hour and half away from the physical studio space, but I make it a goal to go take class in-person at least once per week, and I leave those classes feeling like the drive was definitely worth it! Currently, their maximum capacity per indoor class is 16 people. I went to a class that was full, and I loved that the instructor encouraged everybody to keep their masks "on your face, over your nose," as a general announcement at the beginning of class. It made me feel safer despite the fact that there were about 15 other people in that room sweating and puffing. read more

I have been doing Bar Method for 12 years. It is a safe effective, full-body workout. The WeHo studio has in person classes, but I have only taken the livestream workouts. Online classes are convenient and the visual model plus the instructor's feedback have greatly improved my form and strength. Unfortunately, for us very old folks, being in great shape does not reduce COVID risk enough to allow me to go back to the studio, so I'm thankful for these wonderful classes and all of the brilliant and encouraging teachers. read more

I am fairly new to barre, but trying! I had been to Pure Barre a couple times, and decided to try Bar Method after a few friends recommended this studio to me. Parking was hard, but I parked across the street at the Beverly Connection for $2 which was probably the best option. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. She gave me a tour of the studio and a whole run-down which was helpful. I appreciated that. This place also has lockers with keys that you can use! And there are TWO bathrooms! The place looks small but is deceivingly large on the inside. The class I took was great. It was much more structured, focus, and emphasized form way more than Pure Barre does. At Pure Barre, I am simply doing my best to "follow the leader". Here, I didn't feel like I was constantly attempting to copy the people around me. I definitely got an intense workout and was shocked at all the intense stretching they do here! The instructor corrected my form many times and encouraged me throughout the class which was nice because other studios will say things like "DON'T STOP! GO GO GO!" But here, it was more like "wow you're killing it, great job!" which I like much better than getting yelled out. Overall I recommend this studio and will be back! read more

I've been taking bar method for 5 years! It is the best thing, I've done for myself. Being over 50 and be able to exercise for 4-6 times a week, its an amazing feeling. Bar method is keeping me in shape, strong, and disciplined. Awesome studio! I used to train with the RAD 15 years ago so I have a decent ballet foundation but I haven't worked out in ages so I was really rusty. I forget who my instructor was but she was great! She kept a steady pace and really pushed all of us. I was shaking by the end of the class. I like their class structure because you can tell there were people there at every level from beginners to experts and each exercise could be accommodated to every level. The class I took was the standard Bar Method Classic. There's no dance aspect or choreography - just barre exercises in kind of a pilates format. Most of the resistance is your body weight and balance so there's a lot of core work. It differs from pilates in that the range of motion is very small - literally 1 inch in most cases. All the work comes from basically a perpetual full-body flex if that makes sense, haha. Instead of kicking and jumping you're in a lot of ballet based poses that requires you engaging your entire body starting from your core so that 1 inch movement feels like a leap. Technique is everything so no matter how many times you take the class there's always something to work on and get better at. It's an interesting work out for sure and I'll definitely come back. read more

I genuinely look forward to my morning classes each week. Amalia, Michelle, and Marlene are all incredible, and each bring their own amazing energy and approach. This studio won't let you take an advanced class even if you've taken hundreds of barre classes. They are sticklers for administration and an elitist studio that does not promote a welcoming, positive atmosphere to encourage everyone to work out hard. They claim it is because their classes are taught differently than any other barre class, but I've taken them before, and they really aren't -- so much so that none were memorable. Sorry to break it to you, but that snooty attitude doesn't make you any less generic. Do not recommend to those seeking a positive workout experience. read more

After purchasing the new member's special - $100 for unlimited classes for 30 days - and after attending religiously for the past month, save the 10 days I froze during the holidays, I can attest to the fact that the Bar Method will reshape your body. Prior to the Bar Method, I danced about 6 hours a week, sometimes more. I thought my body was somewhat strong, but I definitely wasn't as lean or toned as I wanted to be. In addition to dancing, I was also running and doing my own ballet/dance DVDs at home. The past 30 days at the Bar Method have reshaped my body. I took a 3 week hiatus from dance for the holidays and put on my leotard for the first time today after my break and Thank You, Bar Method! Firmer thighs, leaner arms, a slowly (but surely) shrinking booty. I *think*, though I'm not sure, that I may have even grown an inch. I still have a ways to go before I look like a Bar Method instructor, but now I know it works and I'm hooked. I love the way my thighs shake involuntarily throughout the workout. I equally love the way I get praised - by name, no less - while I am painfully convulsing. "Great shaking, Kasie." Those are the words you want to hear. I love doing the plank for 50 seconds, thinking each time that I would never make it but pulling through in the end. I love the 40+ pushups that we do per class, the reverse push-ups for triceps, the tuck and flare (genius), the releve-and-down, and on and on. I love it all. My life will now be incomplete without the Bar Method. Even when I froze my account for 10 days, I found a Bar Method studio in the city I was visiting just so that I could get my fix. With the end of my 30 days fast approaching, the question in my mind has been whether I could continue for $250/month. It's expensive for sure. After seeing the change in my body at the dance studio today, I think I really have no choice. Long-time members here really have beautiful bodies. I think they serve as the best advertisement for this business. New moms - there's a $500 special that you can use within 9 months after giving birth. As I signed up the unlimited 2 weeks, I started to become the regular here. Compare the the one I used to go to in San Francisco (Marina) which it has larger space and brighter daylight to the classroom, this one can be a little small but it works out fine with the less amount of the people who go here. Tips: If you are 1st time coming here, the entrance is a little hard to find. It's located at the 2nd floor and in between the restaurant row. You do need to book the class ahead of time. Confession: my favorite workouts include swimming and lifting weights. I signed up for classpass though and was excited to try out new ways of working out. I was super nervous going to my first barre class but the receptionist was super nice and showed me the ropes. There were around 15 people in my class. Mason was the instructor and he did a great job remembering everyone's names. He provided a lot of individualized attention to help me with my form which I really appreciated. Now the actual workout... I just don't think that i'm engineered to do barre. I can't sit and do 50 reps of tiny movements. I start cramping, sweating, and crying. Throughout the whole class, I was thinking that if this is what I needed to do to look long and lean, I would much rather lift some weights and look bulky. However, Mason did a great job keeping the class energetic and flowing though. I was motivated throughout the whole class and the hour passed by faster than an hour on the treadmill. I'm not sold on the whole barre thing but so many people rave about it that i'll try and give it another shot! read more

Geesh, this is no mansy pansy stretching class. This is a hope you didn't drive, cause after you finish, you'll be spent kind of class. Now make no mistake, I run, I workout and I jujutsu a little. I got a groupon for an unlimited month of bar method and it has been about 3 weeks since I first started. Beginning of class, you start out with 2lb and 3lb weights and at first, I thought to myself, "what a joke". Boy was I wrong. The small movements you make with those weights gives you a killer workout. I still need to stop in between reps because it kills my arms. And then comes the legs... I have never seen my legs JIGGLE so much!! It's painful going through it but you definitely notice a difference afterwards. It's a tough workout no matter how many times you go. I'm not sure what the normal prices are but the groupon deal is definitely worth it. The only downside is that there is no parking and it can be a pain in the butt at times. read more

I've now been a proud member of The Bar Method West Hollywood's online community for 1.5 years! I am still so happy with the online class offerings via Zoom. The ample class schedule has allowed me to take "live" online classes - despite a one hour time zone difference - which allows me to receive feedback from the instructors. This is such a meaninful differential from other online workout classes where you are just a number. The instructors at The Bar Method West Hollywood really make sure you get your workout in - safely and productively. Additionally, I had the opportunity to take a class in-person a few weeks ago. I was really nervous going into the class because I hadn't taken an indoor workout class since 3/14/2020. I felt very safe - everyone was wearing a mask over their nose & mouth. (I liken it to added endurance!) There was enough space to spread out in the beautiful airy studio thanks to a class capacity limit. Fans were on and there was great air flow. If it is one thing I swear by it would be The Bar Method! Especially for a work out. I use to hate going to the gym because I never saw any results or felt good walking in. At the Bar Method, from the second you walk into the studio until the moment you leave you are treated like family and greeted by your first name. By taking around 4-5 classes a week I have seen my waist line slim inches, as well as my thighs, and I have truly NEVER felt better. The instructors encourage you and motivate you daily to reach your goals, and that is something I LOVE about the studio and it's teachers. I have personally grown to really admire and look up to Jenn Keyes, Jenn Korbee, and Nick Kilgore, but all instructors are incredible! How is it possible I am only now writing a review for you guys? Maybe because it's challenging to find the right words to capture just how much I adore, appreciate, and enjoy you. I took my first class 8 1/2 years ago, and I don't remember life before BAR. Before becoming a devote BAR goer, I was an avid runner, spinner, and gym-goer. Because of an ankle injury that didn't heal properly, I suffered from crippling hip pain after running, and I was looking for an alternative low-impact exercise. I know, to some, it seems like we aren't doing much of anything in class. ... but I promise... we are. I have never been in better shape. Taking a class is my favorite part of every day. The instructors are exceptional, the post-class high is real, and the community is extraordinary. And if you are a newbie... Zoom is just like being in a studio!! The instructors are "hands-on" as they guide you through class and correct form via video. Even after 8+ years, I get corrections, and I would not have it any other way. Drivers don't always look before turning right (towards the crosswalk) and it's only a matter of time before someone gets hit. :( ---- To the person who was upset about not being able to do a Bar Move despite not having attended 20 classes - there's good reason. Bar Move is a faster-paced class which assumes you already know proper form of the exercises (having attended 20+ non-Move classes); there's no time allotted to explain/demonstrate them. It would be irresponsible - and inviting injury - to allow a new person to do Bar Move without that previous experience. read more

Having been a long time Bar Method client on the east coast, I've been so happy to make the Bar Method Weho my new home. The front desk staff and teachers are all so nice. All classes from zoom to in-person are all challenging. I mostly do in-person but love the zoom feature when I'm traveling. I would highly recommend anyone add barre to their fitness routine (especially those with previous injuries due to the low impact nature of the workout). Not sure why all of these positive reviews exist. The barre class I went to was the worst barre class I've ever been to. I have been to many studios - Pop Physique, Barre3, and Pure Barre. The studio is on the second floor of a building. The guy at the desk wasn't incredibly friendly or welcoming. The studio inside has carpeted floor and requires grip socks or regular socks (which they provide). The class itself was incredibly disorganized. The instructor also seemed to want to correct me on everything. If my toe was one inch off, she would come over and move it. She would rotate my whole torso if it was off. She did not do this with anyone else. She also told me not to do the challenges (ex: hovering your leg as opposed to leaving it on the floor in an ab exercise). Then the nuttiest correction was telling me I was plieing too deep and creating too much of a challenge for myself. This class was not challenging. I wanted to make modifications at points as well as challenge myself to make it more difficult and the instructor did not like that. I found the instructor to be very controlling and inexperienced. I'm sure she had good intentions, but I found her to be unbearable. In exercise classes, instructors generally don't correct you excessively because if they are reputable or competent they know you are making personal adjustments based on your body's needs. I didn't feel like I could relax throughout the class because the instructor was on my tail the whole time. I would not recommend this studio based on my experience. I do not know what other classes are like here. I usually go to Barre3, which I prefer. read more

First off, I am so jealous of Kate P with her 90 something check-ins at this Bar Method. If each check-in is the equivalent to at least 500 calories burned, she is probably as light as one of those baked potato crisps. You go, girl! I wish I could be that disciplined and motivated, but I did take the first step by signing up for a class yesterday online (which made it that much more of a "must do"). The staff is extremely welcoming and although the rest of the class with their tight asses and toned bodies is a little intimidating, you are constantly reminded to push yourself according to your limits and not compare yourself to anyone else. Kim was an awesome, encouraging instructor and Liz swooped in and adjusted me every time I was a little "off" in my positioning, so attention to detail is definitely their specialty. I do enjoy switching up my workouts because I get bored really easily so this is a great one to keep in the rotation of body sculpting activities, but at $22 per class, it won't become a regular for me. They do have a great newbie promotion $100 for unlimited classes for one month, but you obviously need to be committed to keeping it up to take full advantage of the steep discount. My limbs were shaking and apparently that's a good thing. Watch my check-ins increase and my waistline decrease; I'm sure there's a good correlation between the two! read more

The last time I completed a Bar Method class, I could have sworn two days later that my heart hurt, I was so sore. My heart, my soul, my very being. Excruciatingly painful 'oh so good - no wait - please kill me' pain. Which is why with a wary eye, I give this place five stars. Because it's one of those places where you're glad you got through it without running out screaming, and you know it'll be worth it in the end, but getting there is just total crap in a bucket. See, thing is, they trick you. There's no fancy contraptions, no drill instructors. You walk in and think "Oh - it'll be like Yoga. Seriously, the Bar Method? Like ballet? Yeah, I sooo got this." Then they tell you that if you're a beginner, make sure to take the two pound weights instead of the three when instructed. Again, you think: "Are you kidding me? Am I amongst a room full of pansies? TWO pound weights? Hah!" Then, five minutes later, you're on your oh... 1763829930th rep of extremely targeted, microfiber toning with that two pound weight and you think there are little elves that popped out of your tricep and are taking axes to your muscle fibers - and then setting them on fire. This follows with a series of ab and core training, various 'hang on the bar' techniques where yet again you think this will be easy until they say "Okay, only eight more times!" Yup, pure torture, but at the same time, this is probably why all of the instructors are RIPPED. I guess if I want those Jessica Biel arms, I have to cry a little on the way there. Guess it's a good thing I have an affinity for mixing pleasure and pain. Bar Method, I'll see you tomorrow! read more

"It's like running a marathon, girls! You're almost there!" Those were the words I heard as I was furiously working my muscles into a quivering frenzy with tiny, yet excruciatingly precise (and painful), 2" isometric movements involving a wee 1lb weight, and all I could think was, "are you f'ing kidding me? I've done that. It was easier." I imagine this is more like giving birth. At least the breathing sounded very similar. You'd think all of those little movements, teeny weeny weights, soft cushy mats and a bar to hold yourself up with would make it easy, right? Think again. This one hour workout will kick your ass (and thighs, and calves and gut and flabby arms, too), but you WILL get results. I'm pretty sure it could make a grown man cry. (And seriously ripped.) They suggest three times a week and one month to see serious results, but I could feel some toning after just a couple of classes so no doubt if you can find two hours in your week for this, you'll be the better for it. Does dropping a pretty penny on your workout motivate you to get it done? Does the shame factor push you to get it in gear? If either are even remotely the case, this is the place for you. And if you have the determination to work hard for that bikiniliscious derriére, the Bar Method will get you, and your jelly belly, there. Stat. Few words to the wise newb: Take advantage of the free first class and monthly pass discount; wear socks and workout pants that cover the knee (they're required); try to snag one of the six parking spaces in the back; don't break your neck taking your limp noodle legs down the stairs when you leave. After a couple of tries with the Bar Method, I definitely understand why so many people are hooked. It's a really unique way to get a super intense workout in just an hour while feeling like you're targeting all of the right muscles. My first experience at the 3rd Street location was a wonderful one. I was really running late and although I know they don't usually let people in once the class has started, the girl at the front desk and the instructor were both super understanding and didn't make me feel bad about it at all. I also loved the energy of the instructor (I forget if she went by Jen or Jennifer) - she was super upbeat but challenged us the whole time... and it didn't hurt that she had an amazing body that might as well have been a Bar Method poster, for some inspiration. She took time to explain things to the newbies like me and made adjustments for the guy in the room, who obviously has a bit of a different body than the rest of us. The only reason I can't give this place 5 stars is that it really does take some advance planning to attend one of their classes. Between their quickly filled up sessions and the impossible parking in the area, it's not something you can spontaneously choose to do. That's why I had some Yelp Deals credits here for months before I was finally able to step foot insider. But if you make the time, get there on time and find good parking, you won't regret it! read more

Bleh. Most of the days, I have to drag myself to the gym because I do not like working out. I always say that if I did not LOVE chocolate so much, I would never work out. I was taking yoga, but I wanted to up my workout a little more, so I got a Groupon to the Bar Method for an unlimited month. The location is near Beverly Connection and the Beverly Center and it is pretty small (2 classes). Make sure to bring socks because you will need to wear socks in the room. They also have a small cubby to put your keys, wallet, etc. in the classroom. I have to say this was a great workout. Even though, it's small movements, the instructors make sure that you workout every part of your body. The instructors here were also very nice. The classes are usually pretty small (about 20 people max) so the instructors make sure to remember your name. (Although, one instructor called out to me "Jane, don't you want to try this?" when all I wanted to do was curl into a ball. LOL). They also try to make sure you have good form and to make sure you are doing it properly. My favorite instructors were Jenna, Kym, and Anna. They were really nice and very helpful. Be careful after the class! There is a large set of steps to get to the class and after class once you have worked everything out, your legs will feel like jelly as you try to walk down the stairs. Also, make sure to download the app unto your phone, it makes signing up and cancelling class very easy. (If you are cancelling class, you must cancel class at least a few hours before class. I believe it is 4 hours for regular class or 8 hours for morning. If you do not, they either charge you $5 if you have the unlimited package or charge you a class if you do not have the unlimited package). The only downside to this location is the parking. Trying to find parking can be miserable here especially during peak time. There is sometimes street parking near the studio. If you cannot find street parking, you can park at Beverly Connection and walk over. However, we tried to go to a class on a Wednesday night once and the street parking was full and for some reason Beverly Connection had closed off their parking. So, I suggest if you are planning on going when there are lots of cars, make sure to get there a little early in case you cannot find parking. read more
