Several locals handing out and a cool bartender. And the Tall boys are $3.00!. The places is cool and has lots of places to sit inside and outside. Remember no AC anywhere. Dripping Springs is one of those small but trendy neighborhoods that's sneaking its way onto everyone's weekend plans, and I'm not mad about it. There's this little stretch with food spots and craft beer joints you can wander between. I went on a Friday afternoon thinking it would be chill... nope. Place was already hopping. Beers were ice cold, the outdoor space in the back is huge, and it's the perfect starter spot before you "accidentally" turn your quick drink into a whole evening. read more

This Dripping Springs spot is stellar for many reasons. Low key, 99.9% percent locals hanging out in the evening. Excellent bartenders over the years. Super cool owner too who I obviously know because of my tenure in this town. The Barber Shop is so cool in fact that my wife and I chose to renew our vows there for our 10 year anniversary. Complete with a hail storm, cake balls from nearby Well Yeah Cakes, and a Elvis impersonator in his second ever appearance. Beer is always cold; wine list is tragically minimal to the regret of my wife (think tiny bottles like near the airport). Yet, it's charms outweigh it's negative aspects. Heard these days there is a sammich outlet on site for food instead of ordering from nearby Pizza Cave or the shi*ty fried chicken at the gas station. Great dive bar. Cheap drinks and there was actually an artist there painting the patrons and live blues performed by the locals!

We popped into this local bar to watch the Masters. What great place. When I saw someone at the bar with two dogs I said to myself this is the place. We ordered from the bar and then hung out for about an hour. If i was in the area again i would seek it out for sure. read more

So it's called The Barber Shop, but it's really a dive bar that's located in an old gas station. Confused yet? Great, glad we cleared that up. From the moment you walk in, it's clear this spot is beloved by the locals. The crowd was a solid mix of tourists, cowboys, retirees, and working stiffs. The tap selection is small, but they go out of their way represent Texas brews, even hosting a tap from Acopon, which is literally about 20 ft away. It's dog friendly, with a patio and a small performing space for musicians. This place just oozes history, it's definitely worth a look if you find yourself in Dripping. read more

Visited the Barber Shop after a full day of hiking as we needed to replenish our Carbs. Sat was their 6th anniversary so the shop was packed with live music out back and a special cask beer being offered. I have been coming to the Barber Shop for years as a good friend of mine lives in the Springs and we always seem to default here. Take note this is a beer and wine bar only. Yes, they have soft drinks and water as well. This is a dive bar extraordinaire so there is no need to get all decked out to hang out. There are plenty of draft & bottle beers with all the usual craft suspects and always a few surprises as well. The venue is dog and kid friendly so don't step on Fido and keep your cussin to a minimum. Friendly patrons, good service, and a great beer selection that's the trifecta. The Barber Shop brewpub officially opened Saturday, but the place has actually been around since 1924. Located in Drippin's historic downtown, it was originally a gas station back in the day and then became a barber shop. It was basically abandoned for the past couple of decades, but now it's all spruced up and ready for business. There are 12 brews on tap, including local favorite Jester King's Commercial Suicide and Wytchmaker IPA. There are also offerings from Real Ale in Blanco: Fireman's 4, Full Moon and the Coffee Porter. The front features the original stone facade from the '30s and they kept the old barber shop sign. There's a front room for dart-throwing, then the back room has a cool wormwood bar that's been filled in with resin, as well as wooden tables and chairs. It's got a rustic-contemporary-antique vibe going on all at once. A cool addition to the downtown scene! read more

I can't believe I've never reviewed the Barbershop. It's the quintessential neighborhood bar. Have a beer with friends (or soon to be friends) and enjoy the Texas casual ambiance. They also offer ciders and the wine selections, while not vast, are good quality choices for the major wine categories. The beer offerings are superb. I've been coming here since they opened (5 years ago?), remains one of my favorite bars. read more

We kept hearing about this place, and the reviews are fairly good, so we tried it out. Maybe we went at the wrong time because I'm not sure what the good reviews are for. The seating area in back is a bunch of old picnic tables sitting in the dirt surrounded closely by a wooden privacy fence. It's rather claustrophobic. The bartender is nice, and the drinks are cold, but that's about it. I wouldn't go back to sit out there. read more

I live in Seattle and have relatives in Dripping Springs -- "Dripping" -- to the locals, and have been coming here for years. In the early, early, early, early days it was a gas station and my dad told me they'd stop here for gas when traveling cross country in the 50's. I love this place because it's got a great history, the building rocks (pun intended), and the beer selection should satisfy most any beer drinker; lots of variation. They also serve wine and some non-alcoholic drinks. Children are tolerated until 9 pm. There's an area out front to gather and stand, an inside area to order and sit down, and a backyard area -- some covered, some not -- with picnic tables and chairs. There's music on some nights, a great after-work vibe, and friendly atmosphere throughout. Easy Texan drinkin' and relaxin' all the way. Stop by if you're in the area. read more

We stopped by this funky little place for a quick beer on a late Sunday afternoon after hiking at Pedernales Falls. I had just heard about this place about a month ago and had wanted an excuse to stop in. Dive'y is a most appropriate description. While the rock front is an old gas station/barber shop the majority of the building is corrugated metal. The back of the building was open to a courtyard with a stage and washer pits :). This place is not that big, the bar sat about 6. They had a good size TV perched pretty high up on the wall, so we got to watch a little football while we were there. It looked like the HVAC was portable heaters and fans (????). Most important, I was here for the beer. Super beer selection, taps were almost strictly the local brewing scene (512), Thirsty Planet, Real Ale etc. They only had one of their brews, but it was my favorite style for this time of year in Texas. Their Pandemic Porter was a nice clean drinkable Porter, well balanced-it reminded me of my old favorite-Bell's. I liked it well enough to have two and turn the keys over to my wonderful DD hubby. The owner could not tell me if there was a beer brewing schedule, so next time it might be something different...I'm game. They don't offer food, but they have menus from a few of the pizza joints and several will deliver to the bar. The bartender said you could bring outside food in too. There website is kinda blah, maybe they could investigate Go Daddy or something. They have a FB page and are good about announcing specials. FYI-the last Saturday in January (2012) is their 1st Anniversary party with live music. Super fun to visit and drink. read more

This place deserves a five star review; it has a great selection of beers in a small town. The beer is cold, cheap, and the bar has a great atmosphere. I went in last night (Tuesday/Halloween)for the first time in a long time. The World Series was on and I decided to grab a beer and hopefully see the Astros win with other Texans but... they lost. The crowd was small and friendly but I did feel like a party crasher because they all knew each other and were passing the guitar around. I hope this place hasn't turned into a towny bar because it never was in the past. I'm going to have to go again to make sure or at least that's my excuse to go get good and affordable craft beer. read more

Nice laid back joint in Dripping- just what we needed! The bar staff is always super friendly, and seem to treat everyone like regulars. There is a fantastic beer selection- if you like good, craft beer. If you're looking for a selection of Coors and Bud and Miller products this probably isn't the place for you... but if you like local taps, ambers and IPAs then you'll be very pleased. And decent prices with great specials. The back patio is great: lots of picnic tables with misters and fans to keep you cool. And you can go grab a delicious pie at Pizza Cave next door and eat it with your beer. Doesn't get much better than that! read more

Taking a side trip out of Austin, we stopped in to visit this establishment mentioned in various travel sites' recommendations. We were not disappointed! The manner in which they've decorated the inside and out provided a cozy, intriguing, and welcoming atmosphere. There was an impressive selection of craft brews on tap which was explained and served by our courteous server. I will definitely make a point to stop by again on my next trip to The Lone Star State! I love love love this place. I can go and just chill. No frills nothing special. But everyone that goes there is super nice and friendly. It's a bar where they now your name. The Bar tenders are very curious and friendly. Only locals go here and no you cant get a hair cut! The artwork is hilarious and nothing fancy just like the place. It's basically a hole in the wall kinda place - but all the locals flock here after work to unwind! Beer prices are about 1/2 of what they charge down town Austin. SO this this why it's my ultimate favorite place Love all the choices of beer. I'm not a beer snob - but with so many choices they let me have a sample. They only serve beer and maybe wine on a good day. THey have a membership option - which alot of the locals participate in. Its a great value - but I unfortunately do not drink that much beer. read more
