First time at the Shop. The place is clean and neat. I liked that each chair had its own TV. I particularly liked the privacy walls in-between the chairs. My barber was courteous and attentive. He took his time to get the cut right, always checking before he would make the cut. He did a real good job cutting my hair, especially since he never cut it before. He was conversive, but not too chatty. And that's fine. I liked watching golf on TV. I've read some really bad reviews about this place, and I'm sure there is validity to them. But, I have nothing bad to say about my cut, barber, or the place in general. I'd go back for sure read more

DISGUSTED. My husband went to get a hair cut today to trim the sides. He was working to keep the top growing to have a top knot. The stylist did a HORRIBLE job. Look at the photos. The sides are not even. No fade. Missed hairs. Did not do what he asked. And even worse she scolded him for not knowing what the name of the trim was that he wanted. He sadly did not catch her name, but as a description she has terribly died hair that is growing out and is gray was maybe blue at some point. She clearly needs some more time practicing with lines. Really sad that his hair now has to be cut again and short with shitty lines. Would not recommend. read more

I made an appointment with this shop for the second time about 2 weeks in advance. I was running ONLY 5 minutes behind and attempted to call them to let them know I was running late. After getting the busy tone time and time again while on my way, I figured they changed the phone number. When I arrived, I was greeted by Tito, the person I as scheduled with. He didn't smile or even say hello. Just gave me this look of judgement and disdain. He informed me that he was about to call me and he noticed his phone was off the hook the ENTIRE time. No apology for that. Whatever. We start my haircut and this man is rushing. I apologized for being late and as we went through my hair cut, I felt more and more that he just wanted me out of his chair. After getting through some of the haircut he stops and says, "That's all the time I have for today, my next client is here." My hair, at this point is not finished. It was made to look just good enough for him to feel good about his job. I asked if theres a time I could come in for him to finish, and he informed me that not only would I be charged full price again if I came back, but next time I would be charged double because, "the type of hair and how much you have, you need to book 2 full slots." So, not only did Tito not finish the service I came in for, he chose to make me feel like it's my fault for having thick hair. It is discrimination to charge people extra for having different hair than "normal". This shop is a joke, they don't deliver on what they promise and kick you out if they don't want to finish their jobs. Last time I go here. Worst services ever! I was scheduled for this past Monday with Maria, and after I drove 35 minutes from Baraboo, I called and found out Marias was not working that day. I was scheduled for Hair, Beard, and eyebrow. I called, and in a very relaxed way, they just apologized and made another appointment; what happened? First, let me say that I used to love this place. I started using them as my barber in 2018. Nothing fancy, just a regular haircut. I continued going there through COVID-19. Unfortunately thing have changed. My last two visit have been unpleasant. First, I was 3 minutes late for an appointment and got chewed out by the stylist, even after I apologized. Then the last haircut I received was mediocre at best. The final straw was when I went to make an appointment recently and found that they had raised the prices for a second time in a year. The 2 increases raised the price of a haircut by nearly 1/3. $29 plus a tip is more than I care to pay for a mediocre haircut from a snooty barber. All good things come to an end. read more

My boyfriend arrived 7 minutes late for his appointment due to traffic and they refused to see him. They claimed their appointment slots are only 20 minutes long and that he would have to wait another hour to be seen. It's understandable that you can only wait so long for a customer, but less than 10 minutes? The real upset was their response and demeanor. They responded so rudely, with no more than a few annoyed words before sending him on his way. Customer service 101 was extremely lacking. I am a man who has very thick and curly hair, and I tend to let my hair grow out to be pretty long before getting it cut. Needless to say, I often find myself having trouble finding a barber who can give me the haircut that i'm looking for. This was not the case at The Barbershop though! Tito gave me one of the best haircuts that I have gotten in a very long time and it only took half the time it normally takes someone to cut my hair! Avoid this place - it used to be great but the past three experiences have been awful. There are only two things worse than their haircuts 1: their ability to keep appointments and 2: customer service. Most recently, I made an appointment 3+ hours in advance. I showed up for my appointment. After ten minutes I inquired on the status and they said it would be another ten minutes with no explanation or apology. I thought no worries, it happens. After waiting near 40 minutes I just bailed. I then get a call of which I let go to voicemail: "This is the barbershop, we are ready for you." click. To quote Jerry Seinfeld "You see, you know how to *take* the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation. Give me the worst haircut I've had at this place in over three years. She clearly rust through the process forgot to give me the fade on the side of my haircut as well as put the hard part into my head sideways. I explained her before the haircut that this was needed for a wedding and I wanted it to look extra good and she rushed through it in 15 minutes. She washed my hair with a three and one body wash and it did not give me a hot towel for my face. She tried styling my hair and told me that there is nothing she could do do do my colic. I paid $29 for this service and she rushed me through and 15 so could clean up and home night I am appointed thing of the was she, I is Arison uncomfortable at times and she yelled at several of her coworkers for not understanding the computer system. I am extremely disappointed and I will not return to this location as long as she remains there. read more

ASK FOR KEITH So i've been in madison for 10 months now. I'm origionally from london & take pride in a good hair cut. There is nothing more annoying than getting a poor trim. Since I have been here I have tried 5 different barbers excluding keith & none of them come close to getting my approval (STOS certified). I showed him a picture of how I used to get cut in London & he copied it to perfection. He even somehow repaired my previous barber's errors. The fade get's STOS 10/10 approval. Been here now several times for a fresh fade up. They allows seem happy to see customers and ready to clean you up the way you like. Just ask and you shall recieve. There is no hack jobs done here. $11 Bucks cash. What more do I need to say. This gets you a no appointment/just walk right in haircut, hair wash, hot wet towel on your face & quick shoulder rub. No complaints here. This is my go to place once a month. I've had 4 or 5 different hair stylists now and they all have been equally good. If you go any time after 4pm your going to have to sit and wait 20 minutes or so most days, so I do not recommend this. I'm more of a sneak away from work for 30 minutes at 10am kind of guy. But if you find yourself waiting to get your cut, they have exceptional leather couches and chairs with unlimited peanuts and coffee to enjoy! Most of the time they also have a TV at each station set to ESPN or whatever you choice to watch during your quick cut. If your looking for a fancy style, special haircut or sorts, this may not be your haircut place of choice. For that reason only I give it a 4 out of 5. But, fortunately for me, I'm a quick run in---just cut it short type of guy. read more

I was visiting from out of town and stopped in for a quick trim. i tried it based on the reviews others have offered here. The woman who cut my hair was very pleasant, she listened to what I wanted and she gave me a great haircut. I had to wait about 15 minutes because the place was busy and I didn't have an appointment. Haircut followed by hot towel, shampoo and shoulder massage. Place is amazing you get good conversations, haircut, hair washed and conditioned and a quick shoulder massage. Also low price for a hair cut compared to many other places. I really like the hot towel on the face, it makes it very relaxing. Stylist are very attentive and will listen to your request and give their input on what would look good. I have been here on 3 different occasions & every time I get greeted with the coldest greeting ever. The tall girl with the long, curly dark hair barely looks up with absolutely no smile on her face & asks if you have an appointment to which I reply yes, she looks down at the book & I get a it'll be just a bit. There is also another tall girl who cuts hair in the back on the left who is the very same way. It seems to me that it must be a pre requisite to work there that you have to be cold & unfriendly, because the majority of the people who work there are this way. Excellent customer service should always be a number 1 priority in any service industry job & this barbershop is sorely lacking. read more

I have been going to the Barbershop for 3 years now and I much prefer it over some other similar chains like sports clip or cost cutters. There are some things they do really well and others that can be a frustration. I am overall very happy going there and would recommend others to go as well. That being said below are some of my sticking points. First not all stylists are created equal. I have two different stylists there do the majority of my haircuts over the last 3 years while using 3 other stylists. I understand that I have a complicated set of hair and generally you need to be able to show the stylists what you want your cut to look like but some just failed at making a good haircut where I had to come back a week later to get some corrections. I am currently very happy with Melanie. Second the decor is nice but it would be helpful to have a printout of popular channels next to the tv so I don't have to spend the first 5 minutes looking through the guide for something to watch. The chairs are comfy but somewhat hard to get out of and the peanuts can be hit or miss for staleness. I know it is a novelty but just leaves a sour taste in the mouth when they are old/stale. Third appointments are scheduled in weird intervals. I would really like the option to schedule for a full hour. I know it might cost a little more but I feel like sometimes the stylist is rushed. I would be willing to pay more for a more relaxed feel. I enjoy getting a wash before and after the haircut and would enjoy that being and option. Fourth there is no option for just a wash and a neck trim. Even though they do offer the free neck trims to clean up in between cuts I think it should be an option but it is hard with the weird scheduling as mentioned above. Fifth there is no option for a shave, I must admit I do cheat and go to Cha Cha Beauty & Barber on willy street on occasion to enjoy a good shave there. I know it is a dying art but I find it very relaxing and enjoyable. read more

What an awesome place for a bargain! The ambiance is wonderful and the business model is unique. I took my husband there as we were visiting family in Madison and unsure of where to go. (were in our thirties, youthful and stylish, but definitely for all ages) Pluses: each stylist has their own little cubicle where you can watch your own personal tv, personal shampoo station, hot towel, facial hair trim... I'm still getting my haircut here and loving the services that come with every cut (shampoo, hot towel, brow and stache trim, shoulder massage). I have found it more and more difficult to do walk-in appointments, though they do allow them. Weekends are especially busy, so I would suggest calling when they open (no joke) to get in for that day. Sometimes you luck out and show up and the next appointment is a no-show so you get in! They've increased their prices to $17 cash or $17.75 card (no checks). They've done this so they can offer health insurance to their employees! Three times I've gone here and the first I got an excellent haircut, these last two have been poor. I give the same instructions every time I get my hair cut at every place I go to and it usually pays off well. Both of these last two times I have gone my hair has been uneven. Off by about a half an inch on either side of the top of my head. And once with a lock of hair left about an inch longer randomly on middle top to the side. Clearly the staff are new to the business. Hot towels and a massage are nice touches but mean nothing when the reason for coming is made moot. I did get a haircut each time so I paid, and even tipped well because I'm a decent person but the product was poor so I won't be returning. Hire competent staff and charge 5 or ten more dollars and it would be a better trade off than what is offered currently. read more

Kelly is now gone. Reducing to 1 star. I started going two years ago and had Niya who was awesome but she wasn't there long afterwards. I then had some really terrible hair cuts from a few of the other staff and was about to stop going. On one final chance with them I got Kelly and she was super talented.
