Compost places. They're an important facet of Corvallis, a real social thing. I am okay with Bark Place and have been a client for years. As other Yelpsters noted, the owner can be a poop-head on the phone when he's in a bad mood, but by and large his staff makes up for him -- kind of like over at Peoria Road Farms or Taco Vino. Ironic when the owner is the sour apple in the bunch. Pros: Reasonable prices, prompt delivery. Discount for paying by cash or check. Cons: Moody owner, not all DRIVERS are as good--some are cheerful and will dump the load where you want them to, others will plop the goods smack in the middle of your driveway and stare into the distance when you cut them (a $250) check. The Upshot: generally decent company that could use some lessons in customer service. But then it's a compost shop, not an East Side eatery. read more

Pros: EXCELLENT customer service. The person on the phone was very friendly and made it easy to order the Splendid Soil. Scheduling the delivery was super simple. The delivery drivers arrived on time and were friendly and dropped the soil where I asked them to. The soil was also affordable. Cons: Not the best product. The Splendid Soil was sandy, full of rocks and large chunks of clay. I also found a couple of 12in broken off pieces of particle board. The soil dried out super fast and compacted. This soil would be better advertised as something else and not as a raised bed loose soil. All that to say that I will try another one of their soil offerings in the future based on the customer service, but if that product isn't great, I will go back to ordering through Lane Forest Products and pay the extra delivery fee for being outside of Lane County. read more

Good products, good yard loaders, but ... You should know that they add 3.5% to every order at the counter if you are paying by card, including debit cards. They don't post this anywhere, until it's time to pay. No other businesses that I know do this. I assume that they're cheating someone, by trying to operate a cash business with untraceable cash flow and inventory. I'd recommend going elsewhere to stop this, or by bringing your checkbook. Otherwise, they've good products and good yard employees. read more

Worst customer service experience! I've been buying product from the bark Place for almost 10 years. The delivery and the product was always OK. However the last few experiences have been horrible. The garden soil they sell is so low quality and is clay like and full of rocks. Don't waste your money. The most recent issue, is the gravel they sell. I recently spent almost $600 on a load of pathway gravel. The load was decent quality and what I wanted. Then I called and ordered a second load of the same exact product to finish our pathway job. They dumped this load which was $400 worth, and it was not the same gravel. This gravel was huge jagged rocks, mud like substance and full of all kinds of other debris. I just assumed there was a misunderstanding and they had delivered the wrong gravel, so I brought in a sample of what I originally ordered and what the recent second order look like for a comparison. Dave in the office, had a excuse after excuse that it's the quarries fault and not theirs and that's the product that they have right now. He did not offer to take back the gravel number one, give me a credit, or make it right in any fashion. Even one of the delivery drivers agreed with me that the product was not even close to the same. Poor quality and even worse service! read more

Yeah...they have mulch. A lot of it. They also have asshole delivery drivers that blow mulch all over you and your car and laugh about it and then almost run your car off the road. I'll get my mulch elsewhere from now on. tack place has good prices. I expect more from local businesses. read more

I was surprised to see the reviews here. My experience was not bad at all. I ordered soil for our garden boxes and it was delivered without incident. They dropped it off while I was at work, which was awesome. When I've reached out via email I always get a response back; even on the weekends. I'm now getting a delivery of bark as well. on the 17th of April about 5:15 pm I observed their bark place dump truck on Walnut blv driving in & out of traffic at a higher rate of speed than traffic allowed. Truck stopped suddenly behind another vehicle at a stop light. Next where Walnut turns from two lanes to one, I was ahead & trying to merge, I almost ended up on the sidewalk after the driver forced their position. We had a lousy experience. The owner (of supposedly 27 years) who was the driver today - lacked the courtesy and expertise to deposit 7 yards of bark on our drive way. In all our years of giving business to Bark Place, we've never had trouble with any of the drivers who were very skilled. All the owner could do during this transaction was complain about gravity not helping him and his truck. Well, gravity sure did not pose a problem in the years earlier unless to my knowledge it has changed over the last 10 years. Neither did an apology come out for leaving bark on the multi-use pathway that we ended up shoveling. While we've used them for for last 10 years, I recommend not to use him for your landscaping needs. read more

One of the absolute worst customer service experiences ever. Guy working the counter was horribly rude. Bought a few yards of soil which had to be picked up in several loads. We weighed at weigh station before and after loads. Shorted severely on second load. Went straight back and let them know. He blamed us for not knowing what size scoop was on the loader. He made good though and that was ok. Third load we asked to make sure the right scoop was on. This angered said counter man who told us to just get our dirt and get the fuck off the property. At no time we we rude or used bad language with him, just tried to make sure we got what we paid for. We will never give them our business again. I would rather pay more or drive further for better service. read more

I was really disappointed with my experience with the Bark Place. Their prices were adequate and they delivered quickly, but in the process destroyed personal property. I have a wide gravel road on the side of my property so I doubt the space was too tight to get around and should have been adequate to turn around. Despite this, I came home to find a potted tree that was important to me completely run over. It was out of the way and I have no idea how they ran over it unless they tried to back into our tight turn around, which would be unwise. When I called the company they offered no apology but only said they would talk to the driver. While I understand accidents happen it was the lack of candor and responsibility that made the whole interaction unprofessional. I will chose a different company next time. read more

Careless delivery. Driver failed to follow instructions for delivery, or check with us while we were home, blocking our garage with bark. Upon complaining, driver and customer service were rude, blaming us for the inconvenience they caused us. We had a good experience a couple years ago getting compost and bark from a business in Eugene that a landscaper recommended. Good service, good product, no weeds, and it didn't cost much more. Whoever you use, make sure to give very specific instructions about where you want your big pile of landscaping material. read more

I loaded a garbage can with sawdust for my blueberries with the provided shovel. The staff was helpful and the price was right. I don't have a truck so I'll probably get wood chips delivered next year. In the office they have samples of each product they carry so you can make sure the product is the one you need. read more

BE CAREFUL when dealing with this business. They make zero effort to ensure their product even approximates the samples that they show you. I ordered eight yards of 3/4 - 0 crushed gravel. The sample at the store had a good balance of small stones and fines. What I received is basically dust. They will show you a very high quality sample, and then deliver whatever they can get their hands on. read more

We would rate the a zero if we could as the service we received was unbelievably disappointing and down right bad. First of all our blown in bark was delayed fro April to mid June. We paid for 10 yards in April. The gentleman they sent out obviously didn't want to be here. Very slow, did a very sloppy job, smoked cigarettes while he worked and threw our solar light as they were in his way. We finally had enough and called the owner. He acknowledged the employee had cost him $1,000 the month before and he was planning on firing him. That only made things more frustrating. They called the worker off the job and sent some one else to observe him. He made a big mess on two of our neighbors properties. We cleaned their properties as it was noticeably messy. Ours appeared very thin and not well disbursed. It appeared we only received 7 yards of bark at the most, while paying for 10 plus their labor in April. Obvious we are very frustrated. read more
