It has been a while since I was last at The Clachan (pre pandemic) so I was very pleased to be back to this central London venue located just of Regent Street by the Liberty arch. Our table for 3 was initially booked on the ground floor (which would have been absolutely fine) but the staff graciously moved us to a table in the first floor restaurant area. We were very comfortable there as the floor plan is thoughtfully designed and not at all cramped. It's also a little less busy and therefore noisy than the ground floor and part of the reason for our visit today was a friends catch-up session and this area of the pub is perfect for that. We lingered over lunch and I particularly enjoyed my garlic chicken schnitzel. So tasty. The prices were reasonable and quality of food really good, particularly for what is after all a pub rather than a restaurant. Our servers were very friendly and kindly allowed us to linger longer than our inital reservation time. Which allowed us to order and consume that extra bottle of wine for the road, ha ha. What a lovely lunch and catchup for myself and my two long-time friends. We'll be back! read more

Nice comfy pub that was practically DEAD on a Saturday afternoon. Which was fine, we had our choice of seats. They had tables and hightops, but also a few paired up wing chairs sharing a small table. It made for a nice place to sit, drink beer, and chat. Beer. OMG. Several taps of guest ales from breweries you've never heard of and will never see again. All really good stuff. "Village Idiot", "Honey Blonde" were the two I had. Both excellent hand-pulled pints. If you prefer wine or mass-produced Guiness and Fosters, they have those choices available too. Apparently, they serve food. Friendly staff. A couple of tourists popped in and they were happy to humor them taking pictures behind the bar. Funny. I would return. read more

Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, I walked into this one! Initially I thought it was a typical pub, but there's a great curated collection of gins here along with some unique tonics to customize your drink however you like. Had an amazing rhubarb gin with a Fever Tree tonic, garnished with strawberries for an extra touch of sweetness. Would definitely get this exact drink again, branched out and tried a Monkey 47 G&T and it wasn't nearly as good. read more

Ye olde watering hole serves food too! The Clachan is a real local favourite and during the summer masses of office workers spill out the doors and into the street après work. They serve a selection of 'real ales' and the inside is traditional Victorian English pub with 70s mahogany furniture. We've squeezed in there for beers often enough, but chanced a lunch today. As pub grub goes, they do a surprisingly tasty asparagus risotto, but even more surprisingly, a really poor scampi and chips. It's a sad sign for a pub that they can't manage a decent scampi and chips - how hard is that? read more

A group of Yelp elite members came here on a Sunday afternoon at 3pm. We were refused service by the pub manager because were accused of being 'too drunk and loud.' Before this event we had gone for food at a nearby Japanese restaurant and not been refused service. We had drunk 1-2 glasses of champagne each beforehand, we were probably refused because we were speaking a bit louder than the rest of the unacceptably boring clientele. In summary if you have a personality it's best to avoid this place - this is mainly due to the manager and not due to the bar staff by the way. read more

Stumbled in here upon realising that the England v Slovenia match was at 3 PM instead of 7. My train back to Oxford wasn't for a few hours and I was stuck in London, so I figured why not just grab a pint by myself and watch the game? This place was PACKED, which I'm sure might be due to the game...but the staff handled taking orders with ease and no one had to wait long for their drinks. The pub itself is cute and a nice escape from the madness of the shopping district surrounding it. And they had a nice selection of ciders and ales. It is split into two connecting rooms, both with televisions. It was actually pretty funny because there was about a 3 second delay between televisions and so the pub crowd was treated to two sets of reactions to the game! Overall, a great experience -- possibly more satisfying than the actual game itself! read more

As a (sort of) northerner i'm partial to a decent pie, and this place doesn't disappoint. I went for the steak and cheese suet pudding (i think the cheese was in the suet). Granted, it wasn't as good as the ones i used to get on the way to Maine Road for the footy, but it made for a deliciously filling lunch, when accompanied with chips, gravy and mushy peas. On a Saturday afternoon this place is full of shoppers resting their weary feet and it can get pretty packed around lunchtime, but food is served all day. This is a great pub to meet for a few quick pints in Central London. Tucked away in the narrow lanes behind Liberty, is a late Victorian era watering hole with a fine selection of real ales and wines at reasonable prices. It's usually packed out after work....but you might find a table hidden towards the back of the pub. If your stomach is grumbling they also serve pub fare upstairs in the wood-panelled dining room overlooking Kingly Street. The food itself is good, not brilliant but certainly value for money and the dining room is lovely to lounge in for a while. Pleasant staff round out the experience, and I'm looking forward to my next visit to down a few pints and chat with friends. read more

Awesome lunch time pub!!! We had a little bit of everything at our table- the salad with goat cheese (fresh and creamy), the open-faces sandwich with bacon, tomatoes and camebert cheese on focaccia and the sweet potato and goat cheese pie. The pie crust was buttery and crisp and the filling was creamy and rich. The pie came with mashed potatoes and a warm spinach salad with carrots and peas. The salad alone was delicious. Despite only being just around the corner from Liberty, this place seems to not suck. Pubs in this area are always going to be crowded - and the Clachan is - but they also tend to lack any real character because of the high level of traffic and lack of locals. However, the Clachan definitely has its regulars, and the décor feels warm, welcoming, and well thought out. The beer selection is better than most pubs in this area, with rotating casks that include some really great beers if you're there on the right day. If you're here around happy hour time, there will be a lot of business people post-work. I've never actually sat at a table in this pub, but it doesn't matter. If you're central and need to step away from the mayhem, you could do a lot worse. read more

2010 update I have been back recently and not only were the ales in good condition, but thankfully the toilets were too, so I am allocating an additional star in recognition of this improvement! ---------------------------------- 2009 Another old fashioned pub from the Nicholson's chain with a number of good guest ales on tap. Name means village in Scottish. I'm not quite sure what the idea behind that is. Maybe its tongue and cheek, considering its location near the least 'village' like part of the entire United Kingdom! Like the other Nicholson's pub I went to recently the toilets were horrible. No locks on the doors, no toilet paper and the no flush too. I'm glad I was here early in the evening rather than later! It's such a shame because this really ruins what is otherwise quite a nice pub. It's just not forgiveable. read more

A homely pub just on Kingly Street, where you can get a good meal. I had a fish finger sandwich, which they pleasantly called a fish goujon sandwich. This made it taste even better than the sandwich I had in my head when I ordered. They have an upstairs too, so there is plenty of space to sit and the beer prices are fair. It's a nice pub to just pop in for a drink, play on the gamblers or have something to eat. read more

We have been here a few times before. This was not our destination last night, Sunday, but it was one of the few places that serves food up until 10:00 PM. Another Nicholson's Pub, so same food you can find at many other pubs. A larger beer selection and two floors, but no TV last night. I like the atmosphere of this pub. It is pretty wide open on the first floor. Lots of small tables and plenty of standing room. The one bar staff was really nice, but the manager (?) in the blue polo was so unfriendly. She looked as if she was a scary witch for Halloween. She seemed to hate her job and boss everyone else around. Other than that it is in a great section of London. read more

Happened upon this pub as we were leaving the shopping district and we were starving. We had the cottage pie for two and it was so delish! Best in London so far; no wonder it's so busy! Ordered a chicken and leek pie and it was absolutely delicious: flaky crust, tender chicken with a flavorful white sauce. Accompanied by nicely cooked (not overdone) vegetables and standard mash with good gravy. Service was friendly, prompt and attentive. As other reviewers have said the place is ok. Nicely done out inside in a classic pub style. The khazi does leave a lot to be desired but then most pub toilets do, after all they are frequented by drunk blokes pissing all over the floor. It has a decent selection of beers that seem well kept and the bar staff are very cheerful and friendly. Ive been here twice, once a while back after following my wife around Liberty (its right opposite) buying shoes on a busy Saturday day. Also more recently I was in the area on warm Saturday night when the streets were heaving, both times I managed to secure a table. I havent eaten here so cant comment on that other than they have a large dining area upstairs. All in all its ok, if you're in the area and not into the whole booking a table in a pub, which seems to happen everywhere these days, pop in, you may just bag a table. read more
