What a great end to an already great day in Prince Edward County. We came for dinner after being delighted by the vinegars at Black Prince Winery and the liquors at Kinsip Spirits. FYI the gps took us to a collection of buildings called The Warehouse which contains a fancy lodge, a reception area, and a few other things. This restaurant is located past/behind the Reception building and immediately adjacent to the Cookery. Perhaps because of the hot weather and perhaps because it was a Monday night, there was almost no one there and we got the pick of any of the dining areas they offered (garden area, dining room, bar, standard, and patio). We opted for the patio and enjoyed being the only ones there even though it was a bit warm. Seriously, this place is huge and can probably accommodate 100 tables or more despite it looking like a cute, ivy-covered, European-inspired cottage. We opted for the Crispy Chicken Sandwhich and the Fish and Chips plus a beer (Parson's Westy Pale Ale). Our server was so sweet, bubbly, and helpful. I wish I could remember her name but she had long dark hair worn back in a ponytail. She knew a lot about the menu, including the sweets, and helped us choose the Coconut Cream Pie for dessert. The food itself was delicious! Chicken in the CCS was sweet and tangy with great texture and crisp, and the sandwhich was really well balanced with the pickles and slaw. I love me some spice, so I would have opted for a spicy sauce over a sweet one, but it was still a great sandwhich. The house salad it came with was yummy too--greens, cucumbers, and carrots with pepitas and a creamy apple cider dressing. I didn't try the fried fish in the FnC, but SO said it was pretty good. The fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned with flaked sea salt. The Coconut Cream Pie was excellent. The pie filling was light and creamy and not super sweet, and the crust was definitely homemade graham cracker with a lot of extra sweetness to complement the light filling. I must say it wasn't the best CCP I have ever had (Tartine in San Francisco makes one simply out of this world) but it was still really nice. Overall, great experience and will return. read more

This is sort of the hotel restaurant/bar for the neighboring Waring House. It's pretty small inside and feels like a neighborhood dive bar. The staff was friendly- our server was clearly new and still in training, but did her best and was very friendly. They have a pretty decent drink list, and the bar food was passable- nothing too special but a respectable dinner for the type of place. read more

We dropped in unexpectedly and they couldn't have been nicer! Our food was great, service was quick, and our server was non-stop joking and quipping with us. The history of this building is remarkable. Definitely returning on our next visit. read more

Why do I keep giving this place a chance? Terrible service, staff eating food at the hostess stand without acknowledging guests, the list goes on. Standards here have dropped significantly over the last ten years and there's a reason it's dead most nights. Barley Room is on its last legs. read more

Very close to Bloomfield and Picton. Excellent burgers as mentioned on other review sites. Really happy to see Barley Days ales on tap as the brewery is literally just down the road. Must try both at least once. Love the classic British pub atmosphere. Keep in mind the service is on par with other pubs, they do not pamper (or pester) you like fancier restaurants, but they are pleasant enough. The entrance off the highway and Parking are shared with the rest of the complex, which can be confusing at first. It can get very busy on weekends, and there is live music. read more

First visit to this spot and it will be our last. Not enough staff, one poor woman trying to look after a full pub. Needless to say service was very slow. Our food orders got "lost". I had the beef dip which was lukewarm and the meat was dried out. The "au jus" was some dark brown gravy with a coating I skimmed off it, not appealing especially for $17! Hubby had the chicken sandwich which had so many different things on it, it was just a mess to eat. He had wanted to have fish and chips but they couldn't serve that as it was still frozen! No one checked to see how our food was or if we wanted another beverage. Limited menu but a good selection of beers on tap. read more

The staff at this restaurant were completely disrespectful, rude, and demeaning. I came to the restaurant with 9 other family members. One of the waiting staff gave us permission to put two tables together - our waitress arrived and told us off for moving the tables together. We explained that we were told we could by another staff member. She snapped back in a rude way that she would go in and check. She came back outside and proceeded to tend to other tables and ignore us as we stood waiting. We approached her after 5 minutes to see what was going on and she snapped at us that she's busy and can't deal with us right now. I'm pregnant and was standing, holding my 2 year old while waiting. Absolutely no regard for me, my family, and the uncomfortable situation she placed us in. I can't speak for their food, but I've never been treated worse by an establishment. Well If you are in the area of Picton and want Pub food Good food Great and a variety of local and touring live musicians at night ... Then come to the pub , have some fish and chips or a burger and settle back with a brew and enjoy!! A staple stand by for local cottagers or travellers In PEC in the Waring house complex . Great old fashioned pub food and atmosphere! We came on a cold and snowy afternoon for a pint and some soup and it was delicious. I would recommend the corn fritters and the apples cheddar soup for a good solid lunch. Good all-round restaurant/pub for entertainment and a social get-to-gether. Terrific ambience for families, friends and couples. A regular for folky fun music entertainers (thats usually pretty good) generally start around 6:30 pm most weeknights (no cover) along with a pint and meal. Social, friendly, upbeat, good vibes, casual upscale with decent quality food and a broad selection. Unfortunately - no kiddies menu. But 2 could share a burger or..? A burger is on the menu but this menu is a notch or two above that. Most entrees $16-29. Great lunch spot too. Fine dining adjacent/attached in the Waring House room which serves more upscale service and dining experience - but an option to attend both rooms if thats what you like. Nice grounds and setting. Decent pub although quite cramped. Good choices on the menu well executed. Associated with Waring House Inn. We stayed at the Inn for three nights and ate at the Pub one evening. We were content but not overwhelmed. I'm not sure we were entirely whelmed. *grin* read more

Higher-end pub fare with a focus on local ingredients. Service was prompt, but it wasn't terribly busy. Good beer list.

We came for dinner and it was amazing. I have celiacs and called ahead to ask about gluten free options. Many of the items they could make to be gluten free. I had the Caesar salad (without the sourdough croutons) and five cheese dip (with a gluten free bun and veggies). It was delicious. My husband had the Prince Edward County Burger. Looks like a pub, sounds like a pub, but felt like anything but. We were left wandering to find our own seat and had a more difficult time finding anything halfway appealing to eat. There was no traditional British pub food - not even a good old Shepherd's pie. We were serenaded by a vacuum at our table side while trying to eat. That was more than a little disturbing. Then again we were the only ones eating - maybe we should have taken that as a sign. Even the locals were only there for drinks which makes me think they have learned from their mistakes. read more

We visited the Barley room two years ago and couldn't have enjoyed more. My how much has changed in two years. The menu is more Don Valley Parkway than Loyalist Parkway. There is nothing British nor pub left on the menu. It has attempted to become a high end (see snobby) eatery but misses the mark by a mile. The pretentious items were so off-putting that my wife didn't even eat. I settled for the county burger as crusted walnut chili perch isn't really my bag. The burger was overcooked and were it not for the bacon (I opted out of the maple syrup) there would have been no flavour at all. We might be back for a drink and the great entertainment but we will be eating elsewhere prior to going. read more
