On the plus side they have incredibly cheap drink nights (Thursday is of special note) and students usually get in free most weekend nights with student cards before midnight. However, the music is miserable. Granted I haven't been to Ale more then once this year, but it's packed with top 40 hits, which isn't always a bad thing so long as they are mixed properly. But I can remember at least three different times where the music has just stopped (pure silence on the dance floor ensues) and where the DJs have switched and the same song has been played (boo).

Kingston is such a great city to see big names in small venues, and in my opinion, that's always the best way to see someone live. However, the tickets are usually located in the balcony. The leg room in the balcony makes an economy seat on a discount airline feel luxurious. I'm barely 5' tall and my knees touch the seat in front of me. If you can get orchestra tickets, the Grand Theatre is a fantastic venue. Even in the last row, the view is excellent. Parking is easy, the washrooms are clean, and the lounge is comfortable.

We were there for over 2 hours and no one even came and offered us another drink after we had been waiting so long for our meal. You walk in and it looks like maybe someone is supposed to seat you but there's no one at all even near the front entrance and there's no sign saying to seat yourself. We had empty plates and cups for nearly 20 minutes before our server FINALLY brought us our bill. It was overpriced for the portions and quality of food. While we were paying our server finally acknowledged the slow service by making excuses saying "Sorry it was so slow, it's really busy" my husband looked right at him and said "Really, it doesn't look very busy in here, it's more than half empty."
