We understand why it's closed on Sundays, but the coffee shop, also being open to the public, should be open on Sundays if they're going to use this as a selling feature for coming to Big Mike's. The parking pads are a decent size and we had one right on the river. Since we were there in October, there wasn't a whole lot to do especially in the creek. It was evident at the time that big Mike was still working on expanding and building his dream RV park. The open area field is perfect for families so kids can run around or play ball. Overall, it was clean and the shower facilities were one of the best we'd experienced on our travels. We highly recommend big Mike's RV Resort!

The staff at Sugar Hollow are friendly and accommodating and are continuing to expand their facilities. While we were there, the laundry area was completed and six new "long term" sites were cleared by inspectors. It is a remote area of Tennessee, but has all of the necessities within a ten minute drive. Do yourself a favor and check out the wood fired pizza at Smokey Mountain Bakers nearby. The six cheese is our favorite. And if that doesn't satisfy you, larger metro areas are with a 30 minute drive.

This seems to be a gathering spot at night. Several rocking chairs to pull in front of the fireplace and relax. The area itself is very convenient to a lot of NC Mountain landmarks. The Blue Ridge Parkway is approx. 1.5 miles away, Linville Falls is a 10-12 minute drive, Linville Caverns is a 20 minute drive, Grandfather Mountain approx. 20 minutes, and Tweetsie Railroad is about 35 minutes. Bottom line is this is a very nice family campground, friendly staff, and great location. We have now visited twice and will be back.

Worth It 10 Times Over $30.42…read more Grandfather Mountain was the highlight of my trip to the North Carolina mountains and worth every penny. The experience starts the moment you arrive. The staff is organized, friendly, and efficient. They provide a map and a self-guided audio tour that plugs right into your car, making it easy to learn about the mountain as you drive from stop to stop. My advice: arrive before 11 a.m. and check Blue Ridge Parkway closures before you leave. There are still detours and road closures that can add significant time to your drive, and you don't want to miss your entry time. I headed straight to the top for the Mile High Swinging Bridge. The weather was classic mountain weather--cool temperatures in the 50s and 60s with fog drifting across the peaks. Even with the clouds rolling through, the views were absolutely stunning. If stairs are a concern, there's an elevator that takes visitors up to the bridge level. Afterward, I worked my way down the mountain, stopping at Split Rock before exploring the Wildlife Habitats. This area exceeded my expectations. I saw black bears, elk, a cougar, bald eagles, river otters, and plenty of butterflies. The botanical gardens were beautiful and everything was clearly marked and easy to navigate. The entire property is exceptionally well maintained. Clean restrooms at both the summit and wildlife center were an added bonus. I arrived around 10:30 a.m. and left shortly after noon, which gave me plenty of time to see everything at a comfortable pace. You could easily spend longer if you enjoy hiking or lingering at the exhibits. As someone escaping the summer heat in Charlotte, the cool mountain air alone was worth the drive. If you're visiting western North Carolina, put Grandfather Mountain on your bucket list. The scenery, wildlife, organization, and educational experience make it one of the best attractions in the region. There's a big world out there to explore. This is one place that's absolutely worth the trip.

I really just wish the pricing/fees were posted somewhere-anywhere- because they weren't online or on the park signs out front. Had to pull up to the gate/window and even then the park ranger seemed to want to withhold that information as long as possible. The actual park is beautiful and well maintained- and you do get an audio guide plus map upon entry. But the lack of transparency here is a hard no for me. @azfitfoodfun

The laundry facilities are good. Didn't use the shower facilities at all so couldn't review those. We have a 39' 5th wheel and had no trouble backing into space 11. The site we have isn't as level as we would have liked but we are making it work. The office, on first glance, isn't very welcoming but the owner is very nice and accommodating. Don't be intimidated by Adeline, the bull mastiff, who is often at the door. She is a big lover dog. The wi-fi is excellent and allows us to stream what we need. (There is no cable and antenna TV gives us 3 channels) We use a JetPak for personal needs. Our Sprint cell service is decent in park, as well. There is a large solar array across the street which tells me this is a pretty sunny spot, which we find to be true. Which is good since we are wintering here this year. We arrived Nov 1 and this was a pretty area in the Fall. We like it here very much and will come back again when we visit our daughter.

We had to call a tow truck to pull us out. Once on the asphalt road, a big rig has to do a three point turn to make a left on 421 from Vanderpool Rd. There needs to be a stop to these terrible campground conditions. The owner has no idea how to properly run a reputable campground and lies to your face about it being big rig friendly. We've been bless to have camped in all 49 continental States and we've never encountered such a dump.

August 2026 - "Treehouse of Disappointment"…read more Celebrating 17 years of marriage, chose to spend $291 to book the treehouse - loved the pics, reviews were good, both of us were looking forward to the quaint and cool campground vibe. What should have been a fun and unique experience, instead was a huge disappointment. Throughout our time on the property we used the "text this number if you have any issues" which the booking instructed us to do... more on that later. Arrived at the property at around 4:15. Trouble began immediately, as it took 3 different door codes and ten minutes going back and forth via text to get through the front door. Once inside we explored a little, unpacked the cooler into the mini fridge, and were excited for our special night. Next issue began when I noticed on top of the microwave was a restaurant style tub with dirty dishes in it: all covered in food. Ew. Texted the number, woman came to treehouse to pick up the dirty dishes - while she was on the way I opened bottle of champagne and grabbed a glass off of the shelf of "clean dishes". This glass was covered stem to stern in fingerprints. When housekeeper arrived, she apologized and began to take the tray away. My wife asked her if the bed sheets were clean, considering the dirty dishes, and pointing out as well a bunch of fingerprints all over the sliding glass door... (our overall faith in the cleanliness of the treehouse was certainly in question) She said she hadn't been the one to clean this unit but they were for sure clean. Ok. In the time it took for the housekeeper to arrive I said, smiling to my wife, we should just watch some tv... just reset the experience and not let the shortcomings so far ruin our anniversary. Tried to connect to Netflix, but the WiFi for the tv was at 1 bar and would try to open Netflix then time out and fail. Hmm. The housekeeper when asked about this said the treehouse had "extenders and you might need to connect to the Pineola WiFi" then gave us the password. Fine fine I'll do that - I reset the internet on the tv, connected to the proper WiFi network and STILL - 1 bar that was as good as zero. No local tv channels or streaming would be working apparently either. At this point we had experienced problems entering the unit, 2 different failings with unclean dishes, dirty glass door, and no access to WiFi - in the span of 40 minutes. Also, the loft to the bed area has a ladder that does not connect up top in certain places and rests on a carpet on the floor that could certainly slide - this is a disaster in the making for some poor guest so please be careful if you decide to stay on the treehouse. We decided to leave and go to a hotel 20 minutes down the road and try to salvage our evening/anniversary . We unloaded the fridge and drove to the front office which was closing soon. The person behind the bar was nice but ultimately not in charge of anything on the property- she contacted the property manager and informed him we were having issues. The property manager is the ONE good thing that this property has going for it - (Terry, ty for trying, I wish you had an owner with faith in your decision making...) Running out of room in this review - to conclude, that evening Terry over the phone said this was not the normal experience, and we'd be receiving a full $291 refund (which was all we wanted) and he went one step further and offered us a free night at a later date: Wow! We felt heard and looked forward to giving the Pineola another try, The owner however - (via text always)- at first said no refunds, then refunded $100 and after 2.5 weeks of me calling every three days to say this was not sufficient (as Terry had promised us a full refund which ultimately made our decision to leave the one we chose to make) offered us a 191 dollar credit to stay again at the property. We hope the owner has a change of heart, and backs up his property manager: ultimately cannot see us giving this place another try...considering cleanliness and customer service are not priorities. Will be posting on every possible review site in the hopes to get the owners attention - similar reviews found on Facebook- not just us seeing this treehouse for a false advertisement of unique and cool stay.
