I love visiting this place with friends that come from out of town and because our friend Barbie works there and is always so good to us when we visit. So we went this past Friday night with our group of friends visiting from Texas. Lizzie and her parents enjoyed the 9:30pm performance, and our friend David and Lisa joined us too. As always, the performance and experience performers were very intertwining. This is definitely a great place to celebrate birthdays, bachelor's, and Bachelorette parties. A friend and I went here last night. I wouldn't recommend it at all. The performers overall were just meh. It was entirely over-priced for what it is. $15 cover charge per person plus there's a 2 drink minimum ($12-15 per drink for weak rail drinks) with an 18% automatic gratuity. You're also expected to tip every single time a new performer comes around for each song. If it was top notch performers, I'd have no problem at all with this but overall, they were ok to meh to just not good. The worst thing about this place though and what really even prompted me to leave a review at all was our server. She was horrible and flat out rude! She came around after about 35 minutes and asked if we would like another drink. We replied "We're good for now. Thank you." And she snapped back, "You need to buy two drinks each. There's a 2 drink minimum." We were like, "Umm, ok. When we finish these drinks we'll order another one." And after she walked away my friend and I both looked at each other and were like, "WTF was her problem?" ZERO customer service skills. Uhh, maybe inform us of that fact without being a complete female dog? I have no problem with a two drink minimum and we planned on getting another drink anyway, but when we're not quite ready for our next drink, don't treat us like a misbehaved child and scold us. She could have simply stated, "Just to let you know, there is a two drink minimum per person. Just let me know when you're ready for your next round," or something similar that didn't scold or reprimand us. Her bad attitude just really pissed me off. When ordering our second round of drinks, I had ordered a long island iced tea. She brought me the wrong drink. So in addition to her attitude, her attention to detail also sucked. I said nothing and just drank it as it was a screwdriver, which I ordered the first round. But to be rude and bad at your job? Truly check yourself, lady. We're customers who did nothing wrong. Can you maybe put forth a single ounce of effort to not be such a See You Next Tuesday? The second star is for the effort that 4/5 of the queens at least put forth. A must have experience! I went for my 21st birthday years ago and had a blast and returned for my bachelorette party this weekend. A very intimate space so you are guaranteed to get close to all the beautiful queens! The drinks are always great and they have a small menu to choose from if you need a quick bite. The show itself is the perfect mix of beauty and campy comedy. The staff is always very kind. Before going you should know there is a 2 drink minimum and an 18% gratuity added. Not too bad in my opinion because tickets are only $15. Also be prepared with cash. The wait staff are always happy to split bills into singles. Each drag queen will go around to tables during their performance to collect tips- and i promise they deserve it! They put on a phenomenal show. read more

A friend and I went on a trip to Chicago and decided a couple days before the trip we wanted to check out a fabulous show. Somehow I stumbled upon Baton Show Lounge and it was going to be their 54th Anniversary weekend. I was available to snag two tickets which I believe were about $20 each. We went to the late show - they had some drink specials that were $10-$13 I think. I had Mai Tai's during the show. They were very delicious but not very strong. I also believe we were overcharged by a few drinks but I was unable to flag down the cocktail waitress to get it fixed. It was very busy and the waitresses were working extremely hard and they were very friendly. The show was amazing!! My favorite performer was Joan Jullian but all of the performances were amazing and they were so incredibly talented. This is honestly the best drag show I have ever been to! I loved it. My only concern is shows are a little different where I am from and I didn't bring any tip money. I didn't realize the performers come out in the crowd to collect tips and I felt like such I chump that I didn't have any for them because they did such a good job. I did see an ATM machine on the way out after the show. That's my bad - but I wish I would have known. Otherwise overall a great experience and so much fun! read more

This place is so unique. It's an elegant theatre style lounge with great entertainment. I attended for the drag brunch & bottomless mimosas. They had a plethora of breakfast and lunch style items buffet style and a chef making pancakes, omelette and French toast upon request. Everything was very tasty there was everything from wings, charcuterie items, fish, classic breakfast items, rice, fajitas you name it! The server was fast with the mimosas refills and miss Danika was an amazing host/performer. You will get your moneys worth and more from this experience. We went here to celebrate my BFF's birthday and check out the new location. I have to say that Jim and the crew made a great selection in this new location: fabulous stage and a great outdoor patio/bar. Reservations are definitely required due to COVID and that is not a bad thing. You definitely want to know you have a seat on a Saturday night. Tickets were $13 cash at the door. The space is bigger than the old Baton, with the same double bar (one on the main floor and the elevated one on the other side of the bar) and the stage is very lovely. This venue use to be the home of a burlesque show and it definitely works for Baton. The décor has a very baroque feel to it, lots of red and gold ornate frames everywhere. The outdoor patio I have seen while driving down Broadway but I was able to see if up close and personal and it is lovely. We have decided to just come there and have drinks one night, it is just that inviting. There was a large sofa at the end of the patio that had my name on it and I am going to claim it soon. Going to give a big shout to the ladies room. For those of you that went to the old Baton, it was a small cramp two stall deal. This new one has at least five stalls and it is huge! Love, love, love it! Service was great, our server was too funny and was on top me to make sure I was getting my splits of Segura Viudas sparkling rose and kept calling me Bubbles. They have a food menu now, which the old place did not. Didn't eat anything myself, but my friend got a Croque Monsieur (Toasted Ham and Swiss Cheese Sandwich) that he inhaled, so I am gonna say he thought it was good. The performers are still amazing and put on a great show. I love all of the ladies and it was a treat to see Chilli Pepper perform on a holiday weekend, was not expecting that. I always respect her act because he is a true female impersonator, no surgery just old fashion make up and dresses. Not to take away from the other ladies as their illusion is flawless and they look lovely. It was good to see them in a full face shield when they came to mingle with the audience. I didn't know what to expect in terms of audience interaction and they did not disappoint. Definitely glad this was the choice to celebrate my BFF's birthday. I went here for Mother's Day with a group of 16 and it was the worst shyt I've ever seen. It was suppose to be a Brunch and the food was cold and hard. The Baton is an institution. I have been hearing about it for years, and when a friend invited me to go, I jumped at the opportunity. The Baton is a drag lounge and I am not particularly familiar with drag or drag culture, but I knew what to expect having been to several drag performances and competitions before. I do not have much to say about the performers. It was entertaining. If drag is your thing, there are probably few better places in the area. The venue is beautiful and below ground. It has all of the charm of an old theatre. We sat at a table near the front with a comfortable booth. You probably want to be towards the middle because the view of the stage can be slightly obstructed for those sitting on the far edge. The low points were the drinks and the wait service. The waitress was pleasant but inattentive. She got the order wrong and the drinks were misattributed at our table of four. Additionally, the bartender clearly cannot even make the cocktails listed on their menu. If you order an old fashioned, do not expect it to resemble an old fashioned--at all. In the end, I would return if invited, but I certainly would not make a special effort to attend a performance here. read more

My friends and I took our friend here to celebrate her 25th birthday! It was definitely a fun time - the queens performing were all so talented and beautiful. The drinks were reasonably priced and the place was way more spacious than I thought! Dimly lit and decorated suavely, the Baton Show Lounge is a must go for drag shows in Chicago. A lot of the queens did Christmas-inspired performances to match the season, I'm sure they do that for all holidays. One thing to note is that it took a little bit for me to get in contact with them prior to book a reservation. It was a little hard getting them on the phone to book (probably took around a week and a half) but once I did, they were super nice and explained everything. They had a lot of drink specials, and nothing was very strong, so it seemed like a weird add-on. I'm not sure if they even track how much everyone is having because service was super spotty. There are MANY bachelorettes on any given weekend (around 20 at our show!) and they made us all line up and talk about ourselves. I thought it was fun because I was one of the bachelorettes, but I could see how that wouldn't be fun if you weren't part of one of the parties! When my mom saw some pictures she laughed so hard because she said the same show girls have been there since she went years and years ago back in HER 20's. I have given much thought to the tenor of this review - I want to get it right. I have much respect and admiration for those who successfully practice drag, so I don't want what is a fairly negative review to reflect badly on the performers. Two friends and I have been discussing for a few months what fun it would be to go to the Baton. So we went to the Brunch show on Sunday, 1 January. I love the venue. Seems right for a drag show. I think I can speak for them as well that it was a disappointment. Perhaps it was a combination of the small crowd and its initial anemia, the service, the cheap motel brunch, and the lack of enthusiasm I felt from the performers. The performers, however, definitely redeemed themselves in the second set - I loved them all and their energy. The crowd (us included) was much more enlivened during the second set, with the first girl really seeming to have a good time performing for us. So, I don't think the sense of disappointment was caused by the girls or the crowd. If anything, they probably kept this from being a two-star review. That leaves the food and the service. Our server was incompetent. She forgot what drink I ordered, forgot who ordered what, gave my friend attitude when he didn't know exactly what brand of tequila he wanted in his Margarita, and snapped at me when I (politely) wouldn't accept a free shot (I don't drink alcohol), and took forever to serve us. There were only 4 groups of us, so she shouldn't have been overwhelmed. Let me illustrate something minor, but illustrates her lack of mindfulness regarding her job: We each gave her a $20 bill in exchange for $1 bills. Instead of coming back with three individual stacks of $1's, she plopped down on the table one pile, causing us to divide it ourselves. In the course of dividing it, we discovered that we were short $2. And then there was the food. It was a buffet. That I did NOT go back for seconds at a buffet is a testament to its mediocrity. I think they shopped at Cosco. They had a cook making omelets, so that was nice. Some things meant to be hot were cold. No butter: when the butter came, there were no utensils to pick up the butter. It would not take much to elevate the food quality, and that alone would go a long way toward thinking we got our money's worth for the brunch. So, in conclusion, go to the Baton for a late show when the place has a larger and more lively crowd and isn't serving food. And just cross your fingers you don't get the same server we had. read more

I've been coming to the Baton Show Lounge for more than 20 years. I love the new location, it is definitely befitting of the Queens! The new location also offers food and a brunch as well. I visited drag shows in NYC and Vegas but the Baton is the Best. The shows are artistry in motion and the costumes and makeup are sheer perfection. I've been 3 times this year and I'm returning this weekend. Each show is new and different. The only downside is the last shows I've seen had fewer acts than in years past. I'm guessing it's for safety reasons. This is the perfect place for a birthday celebration, bachelorette party or girls night out. Haven't been here in ages and came here recently on a Saturday night to catch the 8:30 pm show. It was just us ladies gathered for one of our bachelorette festivities for the weekend. If you have not yet been here, you're missing out on a great drag show. Each show lasts an hour and a half, definitely worth the $17 admission and 2 drink minimum. All of the drag queens look beautiful and put on a great lipsyncing act. The dresses that they wear were gorgeous I loved the choice of music. There is enough of a mix for both an older and a younger crowd and everyone can enjoy. I also like how they added a male performer and the ladies can put their dollars in his pants. "Angel" was beautiful and had all the ladies going gaga. The venue is small and cozy which is perfect for audience interaction with the performers. The waiters were very prompt and attentive and kept the drinks coming. If you're coming with a big group, make sure you bring cash as they only accept one credit card for your bill are cash. This was my first time going to see the show. Some friends invited me to go as the Baton show was hosting a Halloween brunch. I checked the website not knowing much about the the place and saw that this brunch was special themed for Halloween with an alleged costume contest with cash prizes. I was the only person in costume. According to the advertisement I should have gotten a cash prize. No, I got a free drink and 2 passes for future shows. I was a bit disappointed. I would have dressed up either way but don't advertisement 1 thing and not follow through. I saw no restrictions for prizes. This was my first and last time. Truly false advertisement! I'm really torn on this review.... I really wanted truly enjoy the show. Yes, this show has been in business for 45+ years, but I thought it was just okay. There were seven (7) of us on a recent Saturday night for a 10:30pm show. Upon entering the lounge, you need to pay the entrance fee. Just make sure you have cash or the is additional fee for the credit card. There is a handy ATM machine. Once our group had paid, we were taken to our table. We were placed way in the back - which was okay since we were able to see the show. They certainly squeeze everyone in. Ginger Grant, emcee, had welcome all of the guests and then proceeded to announce the special guests such as brides-to-be or anyone celebrating an occasion. From this point, some of the performers were really engaged with the audience and some were just there lip syncing without any engagement. Some of the performers would make the trek throughout the audience to ensure a great time and receive tips. There were couple of male performers, again, they were okay. The server, was very attentive to all of his tables. Yes, there is a two (2) drink minimum, which is stated clearly on the website. Sunday Funday Brunch at Baton was off the chain. I had a wonderful time on yesterday. I haven't been here in a while but yesterday made up for it. The show was well put together and very entertaining. The food was so delicious. Everything they served for the brunch was tasty and well seasoned. The place was packed. But the atmosphere was welcoming and full of live people. There was never a dull movement. The entertainers gave a Superb Show from the beginning to the end. The only thing is that the drinks are a bit pricey. You have to purchase a 2 minimum drink per person. Which makes the reason for my 4 Star review. Before coming here, I was really scared that I wouldn't have fun because it didn't seem like my type of thing, but they honestly know how to make it fun and for most of them, you wouldn't even guess that they were men when they are walking around or on stage. The costumes and makeup were very good! I came here for a bachelorette party, and ended up having a ton of fun here. The dances were fun and engaging to the audience because there was a variety of classic songs. The only thing I never realized and didn't like was that some of the dancers were not the best at lip syncing. Like comedy clubs, there is a two drink/item minimum when coming here. The day we came, the service was honestly very good, but we were also near a couple other bachelorette parties and we were seated right in the middle of the room. There is an ATM in here, but I personally think it would be so much easier to just bring a bunch of singles so that you can tip the queens as they walk around. Stopped by here two weekends ago, it was so much fun. I went with a group of friends, it was a total of 4. I didn't know what to expect, since I've never gone to an actual drag show, besides those Wednesday nights I'd end up in boys town, chi and a random one was in play. ANYWAY, The Baton Show Lounge was so fun as far as the staffs attentiveness and the performers themselves. My table was the first table there, we got a reservation at 11 am (right when they open, we wanted to make sure to get a table) We were there alone for a good 45 mins before anyone else stopped by. So I'd like to say that we got a private show almost. The performers were calling me by my name, Nanci with an I. As drinks were coming, people were showing up the better things got. Its just such a fun environment and I now have a dream to in drag at some point in my life. The confidence the performers showed was so admirable. The reason why I did not rate a 5 star would be the food was not it for me, could have been what I got. I got an avocado toast (this is my go to all the time anywhere..) What was off from it was the toppings it was just too much going on which sounded great but together it was not it. The mushrooms caught my attention but in it I didn't want them. The side salad was poorly put together. I ate it tho because I was drinking heavy. Tab went to like $400 which was not bad for the amount of drinks we got and gratitude was included. I would definitely go again, and try something different on their menu or not.. but for sure would go with the Long Island ice tea, you can never go wrong with a great drag show and a long island. read more

Was here on a date on a Sunday afternoon and had really pushed going here because of the service, the performers, all of that. That turned out to be the biggest mistake of 2021 thus far. When we arrived,we were seated near the stage. One would think "YES!" but that turned out not to matter. The server took 15 minutes to come to our table while she was running around laughing and talking with the other guests. Uh sis, that can wait when you have paying customers waiting. Then she took another 20 minutes for our mimosas while, again, she was laughing and joking with everyone else. Finally, the drinks arrive. She then leaves, and doesn't even bother to check on us, ask if we wanted refills, nothing! We were there for an HOUR and hadn't been looked after. When I finally confronted her about it, she played it off and acted as if she had done nothing wrong. Offered a half-assed apology and then gave us the bill...which of course included a 16% gratuity. Rather than cause a scene, we just left. The kicker is when I sent a message via Facebook regarding our experience, because by now the date is ruined, the mood is ruined. I was told (exact words) "SAY SOMETHING!!! ASK FOR SOMEONE IN CHARGE". Why when I'm communicating with you, right now?? Never again will I go there. And that's sad. I even let the door person know it was my first time, and asked if there was anything I should know, and they neglected to mention that you MUST bring cash to tip the performers. We visited Baton Show Lounge twice during our time in Chicago. The first was when we came here on a Saturday night, as the internet showed it was open until 2. We arrived more than an hour earlier than that, just in time to catch the last few numbers of a drag show. We ordered a drink, watched the last bit of the show and once the hostess said her final remarks, nearly everyone stood up and started leaving. When we asked the bartender if they were open until 2 per their listing, he explained that once the show is over and patrons clear out, they close down. That in mind, we finished our drinks and left. On Mondays Baton is usually closed, but we were walking past on our way from a late dinner and saw that this place was actually open. They explained they'd had some kind of pageant on that evening, but were closing soon. Again, we had only one beverage here before moving on. Baton is quite nice, with a relatively large stage in a room with several tables and chairs, then a long bar to the side with 2 seating areas...One in front of the bar with standard bar stools, then a raised seating area behind it that lets patrons sit up high above the bar and overlook the entire space, but it's not so high that the staff can't reach up to serve patrons who are seated back there. Next time in Chicago I'll stop back here for sure, but will plan to take in a proper show or maybe even try the drag brunch on Sunday. read more

I don't know if the lunch food would've been better but our group ordered omelettes and they were not fully cooked. The omelette was very watery. This was so much fun! After hearing many people talk about the impersonation show, I just had to check it out. The performers were gorgeous and did a great job with each rendition and the outfits were fabulous and complimented each of them and their assets. My favorite performers of the evening were Regine Phillps and Angel. Regine performed Don'tcha wish your girlfriend was hot like me and the crowd went wild and also changed to later come out and impersonate Nicki Minaj. It was a mirror image. As with any event when women are in rare form, some had a tad too much to drink and wanted the evening to be all about them. One lady basically camped out at the stage in her lingerie like attire. A few performers gestured for her to sit or tried to ignore her. Another lady hopped like a bunny from the back of the room to the front a few times. She tried to get up on the stage. When she did, the performer backed up. It was entertaining and hilarious at the same time. A great evening and definitely something to experience again. $17 per person with a 2 drink minimum on Friday and Saturday. Other days are $10. Valet parking is offered for $14 on weekends. read more

If you're looking to make your bride-to-be feel special, do NOT go here. As you can see in the picture, there are literally over a dozen brides at every single show. I honestly felt bad that we planned this to be part of the night. She won't feel special and she will just be a number with zero special treatment. There is no saving grace when it comes to Baton Lounge. The drinks are beyond sugary. The queens are underwhelming and just walk back and forth on stage. Décor and furniture is completely outdated. Overall, just sad. I've been many drag shows in the past and this truly bottom of the barrel. read more

We went to The Baton for their Sunday Brunch for the first time this past weekend and what a blast. The show was extremely intimate and interactive and got us up and moving out of our seat. This really loosened up the newbies. The food was decent and there was an omelet and crepe bar with all the fixins, the talent was incredible! My friends and I , there were 5 of us, could not stop talking about how flipping FABULOUS our experience was! My friend and I casually walked in here at 1:30AM on a Saturday night not knowing what to expect and just trying to get away from the intense clubby dance scene of the city. We ended up cancelling our cab ride so we could stay and watch the show that was going on. Apparently after 1AM, it was free admission and it was exactly what we were looking for. The dancers were extremely fun and playful. The vibe was really lighthearted and fun. Drinks were reasonably priced at $7. I think this hole-in-the-wall place deserves to get a bit more hype. read more
