Oh my goodness! Worth the drive out from McCall! Our family of 15 had zero complaints and loved everything. Burgers, fries, fish and chips, finger steaks, you name it we loved it. Service was friendly and fast and we wanted to adopt the cook because she knows what he's doing for sure!

We headed over around 11:30 on a Sunday morning for an early lunch. Upon arrival, I imagined the building has been there forever by the looks of it. Patio dining was preferred since the weather was sunny and breezy with a fabulous view of the golf course and lake. Fortunately every table has an umbrella on the patio so you can control sun exposure. The service and the food just fine, but the main draw is the view and proximity to lake, golf course, and next door campground. The menu has a lot of choices. Many apps, sandwich options, soup, salads, a kids menu, etc. Breakfast served until 1pm. I enjoyed my lunch of tomato soup, green salad, and baked potato. My daughter liked but didn't love her spicy chicken sandwich, she said the chicken breast was too thick and was very messy with liquid dripping from it. Onion rings were awesome though! Other daughter liked her mac and cheese bites. Prices were standard and fair. Party of three for lunch was under $50 with tip. We unexpectedly had friends arrive halfway through our meal and the waiter was very accommodating and their order was brought out quickly. We easily were given separate checks. We really enjoyed spending time lakeside on their patio. Definitely will be back and recommend to friends. Thanks to our server Dylan!

Once we arrived, I discovered that the items that I wanted to try had been removed at some point by way of scratching them off each menu with a Sharpie. So we moved on and chose other items and we were promptly told that they had ran out of the ingredients to make a French Dip, no turkey for a Club sandwich, and no Jo-jo's. By now we were fairly annoyed but we decided to make the best of it and chose chicken strips and a club sandwich without the turkey. We waited what seemed like an unreasonably long time for these particular menu items but they did finally arrive. I'll start with my husband dinner. The chicken strips were obviously Banquet or Tyson Brand frozen strips that were overcooked into submission to the point of being inedible. The tater tots came out of the kitchen with absolutely no seasoning or salt of any kind. My Club sandwich upon first glance looked great. My biggest complaint was that I think the cook used a concrete trowel to add the mayo! The bread and meat has no ability to stay stationary. It was a landslide! Needless to say. We left without finishing either meal. We've been on a 22 day road trip and this was hands down the most disappointing restaurant we've been to in 4 states and the worst meal that we've had all 22 days.

There is plenty of comfortable seating. The squeeze and i split the finger steaks with an onion ring upgrade. A little gristle in one piece, but it's hard to find finger steaks without that. Good breading with a nice mix of spices. The onion rings were great, no pull out of the onion. This was pleny of food for two as a quick lunch. We just had water to drink, and they gave us our own pitcher. Service was great, and the server/waitress/bartender was really friendly. She filled my cold cup with a coke so I didn't have to stop at a gas station before leaving town. There are so many places to eat on the main drag, and I am glad we chose this one. This is walkable from most of the motels. There were differentiating reviews but we gave it a 5* review because the service & the food were both excellent! It's had plenty of seating, many tables for 6, a pool table, a bar & several TVs. I had the Rodeo burger & it tasted fresh & was excellent! My husband had the 12oz ribeye & it was cooked perfectly to his request. I didn't try it but it looked sooo good! We came here late September & it started getting crowded right about 5:30. We will definitely come back in the spring on our next stay!

The Elkhorn B&B has, if anything, gotten even better since my last visit. Debra, the…read moreowner/innkeeper, has expanded her flock of goats and now is mastering the art of goat cheese and milk-making, selling her creative chevre combinations at local farmers' markets and offering advice to would-be artisan farmers (or wannabes) along with her signature ranch house breakfasts (think fresh eggs, hash browns, melon, sausage, and excellent dark rich coffee). She's also a fountain of knowledge and great conversationalist, and her elegant ranch home quickly feels familiar within the first few minutes of arrival (once you open the gate and bounce along the gravel driveway to the barnside parking). This time, I decided to get creative and took a sunrise hike before breakfast to the summit of nearby Council Mountain (8126 ft.) in the Payette National Forest. Admittedly, it was a bit of an adventure, with fallen Ponderosa pines (the good Samaritans have chainsaws in their trucks up here), black bear cubs, a great grey owl, kestrels, and a herd of free-ranging cattle, and I didn't get back until 11:30 am, so my breakfast was an early lunch. But the chance to see the mountains from an exquisitely rugged vantage point made the 12-mile morning trek worth the effort. The food and company that Debra provided after were most welcome. You don't actually need to do a hike like that to have a good stay at the Elkhorn (or bring along French wine to drink on the patio while watching the lightning and rains come in at night). You could just hang out for a while and soak in the hip ranchhouse atmosphere while goats, horses, sheep, mules, chickens, dogs, and other creatures wander about. It's definitely a pioneering sort of place - a 21st century version of a Western American classic, with WiFi and goat cheese included.
