The chain seems to have shrunk in the last four or five years, and spotting the open window on the Royal Hibernian Way was a delightful surprise. At last, those little almond-topped nougat squares draped in rich white chocolate can be mine. The hours are a bit funny though and it's not the cheery, luxe experience that competitor Butler's has going; but sometimes there's nothing sweeter than Leonidas... and being right.

Cool thing about this company is that they grow their own cocoa, and do not add artificial colors or preservatives. The staff at this location are so friendly and outgoing. They let you sample the more popular chocolate items for free. They also have coffee and hot chocolate to purchase. They claim to have started selling chocolates online back in 1993 a little before amazon and eBay were selling. Cool if that is the case. Amazed at all of the chocolatiers that are in the UK. For sure will come back and try their other goodies.

I met the owner, a Belgian lady called Inge, who recently opened the shop with her Irish partner Declan. She was really lovely, she told me all about how she came from Belgium to open a Belgian chocolate shop in Dublin after falling in love with an Irish man. Back at home in New York, we looked on Amazon and searched around trying to find it...nada. Finally we reached out to them on their Facebook page, since they had no international shipping option on their site. We spoke with the extremely patient Miriam, who walked us through an order. We placed it and waited, knowing overseas shipping could take forever... It came way quicker than we expected, and we were in chocolate heaven... When we planned another trip to the Giants Causeway, we left an entire day free at the end for Chocolate Garden; we were as excited as, well, kids in a candy shop! We opted to do the candy mold- a great bit of fun for 10 euros, and we ordered some REALLY good coffee and a delectable scone- all made on premises. Then, to our delight, we were treated to a generous scoop of their homemade ice cream to eat while we waited for our molds to harden. Cookies and Cream and Whiskey Cream were exceptional, BTW. While we ate, Miriam introduced us to Mary, one of the owners, and then while we were putting together our shopping, we met Jim, her partner. Really great people, fun place and of course, the best chocolate we've ever tasted, exceeding even the chocolatiers of Cannes and Rome... Now being an absolute addict, he decided this must be the place to get directions not knowing that he had just become Charlie as he just discovered Willie Wonka's wonderland of chocolate. And truly this is a garden where the seeds of the extremes in the chocolate experience blossom into in to  a full botanical display.  Barely having escaped death by OD, he succumbed to the final demise, a cup of the Chocolate Garden's National Hot Chocolate Prize winning brew.     Don't know if I'd ever be able to tell you how to get there, since I was without a clue as to where I was, as is so often the case in Ireland.  Just try to find Rath near Tullow and good luck for wrath is the last thing you'll find.
