Historic building is nice, not so for the historical lighting and water fixtures throughout the building.

This is the most beautiful theater inside that reminds me of what you'd see in the olden days. They serve spirits beer and wine. Candies and popcorn etc is also available. We came to see the High Kings an Irish band that we love! front seat and we are absolutely excited . We had some issues with our online tickets, however they were so helpful and assisted us. If you are visiting the area I do suggest looking them up to see who's coming. Using their online ticketing to get your tickets is my best advice. It's a great time here. Slainte! read more

My family and I decided to go to this theater to see one of our favorite artist Hunter Hayes who was actually so nice and humble. I wish I could say the same thing for the staff, we will start by getting the tickets, my family and I got nothing but side eyes, cold shoulders and passive aggressive replies. One of the staff members, some older lady with a short hair cut and grey hair, approached my diabetic sister after she was trying to pull herself together after her sugar dropped. Stating that she needs to get food and drinks from the food center rather than help her. And this is supposed to be a church? How abysmal. read more

Incredible experience watching The Steeldrivers tonight at the beacon theatre. Very historic feeling building, sound and lightning was perfect and not too overwhelming. Cheap drink and snack options. Easy parking & will be back! Very happy with our night spent here. read more

The staff are generally friendly and do not interfere much throughout an evening. The seating is good and is small enough to make most any seat probably a good one. Check bags. Nothing on the website or ticket said we needed a clear bag. We were sent a mile down the road to get ziploc bags at the dollar general for our mini purses. Other women were let in with purses with similar size. We came in a Lyft and needed another Lyft to go to the Dollar General and back to the Beacon. We have gone to countless concerts at this beautiful theater. An tonight we walked out of the Cooper Alan concert after 2 1/2 songs because it was such a turn off. We thought this was going to be a country concert and Thomas Mac did an outstanding pre-show concert as the startup. But Cooper started out with loud rap music, filthy language and by insulting half the crowd-certainly not what we expected and it didn't get any better. My wife wanted to go to this concert and I got these tickets as part of her Mother's Day gifts. I thought CA was bad, but when my wife said "let's leave" (twice) I knew we were not wrong to leave. Horrific experience with staff. My sister was visiting a friend who was performing and was stalked regarding a WATER BOTTLE. Claiming ABC doesn't allow outside water in which I researched and is a LIE which clearly means my sister was being HARASSED! Apparently this venue has a problem with outsiders. We are not from this area of VA. We heard security degrading my sister and questioning who my sister was. My sister is stunning so jealousy lurks in this theater. Heaven forbid anyone look decent then you have a target in your back. Disgusting behavior from employees over A WATER BOTTLE! So employees not only harass but LIE. read more

I had never been to Hopewell before; I came in for a Restless Heart concert. First of all, there is a lot of free parking, which is always appreciated. The staff was quite friendly from the ushers to the concessionaires to the ticket takers. For the bar, it was pretty decent, $5.00 for all beers, $7.00 for all wine. I was glad they had a couple of local options for craft beers. They don't have a draft system, however. For food, it was hot dogs, popcorn, and pre-packaged snacks. As we left afterwards, the staff was offering us bags of popcorn to take home. The theater itself feels quite intimate, every seat feels like it's a good one, at least on the lower level. The sound and acoustics were very well done, I could actually hear the words to the songs instead of them being drowned out by the instruments. read more

Beautiful venue but filled with bad eggs. Bartenders were great but "security" took their rent a cop roles a bit too seriously.

We went here to see UB-40. It was awesome. The concert originally supposed to be at Pocahontas State Park but was moved due to it being so hot out. I'm so glad it was it was nice to be in air conditioning!! We were seated pretty high up but had no problem seeing the band. They had a fully stocked bar and we also loved. Cocktails were awesome, bartenders were friendly and bathrooms were clean. What else could you ask for? There was plenty of parking outside.. This is a wonderful venue! Loved it! read more

Went to the Joey Davis concert tonight and me and my boyfriend were walking to the bathrooms and he handed me his beverage so he didn't have to take it in the bathroom and the man that was at the door scanning when we walked in yanked the drink out my hand and was telling me what he did was illegal and was yelling at us and made me show the bartender my ID (which I'm over 21) and he made a whole scene I assume he thought I was under 21 which I do look younger than I am but the whole way he went about everything was extremely disrespectful. It could've been handled a lot differently. I don't want to pay money to go to a concert and get literally screamed and embarrassed at when we're completely innocent. He just didn't want to take his drink in the bathroom. That man needs to check himself and not talk to people like they're dogs. Ruined our night because we sat there pissed off at what had just happened. We got over it because it was an amazing show. read more

Well done, Hopewell! This project has been "under construction" for a good majority of my childhood. To see it up and running (and thriving!) was wonderful! I took a tour of the whole facility and was very impressed by everything- the restoration of the venue itself, the hospitality of the staff, and especially the options for those interested in using the Beacon. I had no idea it was that big in there. Ballrooms and grand hallways and huge meeting rooms. They can truly host any function, I'm convinced. Looking forward to seeing the Beacon shining again :) read more

Newly renovated theatre looks beautiful inside. The cozy spot reminds me of the places I used to frequent in San Francisco. The sounds, however isn't the kind you'd expect in a concert venue. As the opener tonight, Adrian Duke, joked, it sounds like a middle school auditorium. I'm loving the music tonight but wish I could hear his singing better... The main act, The Blind Boys of Alabama, seemed as though they had a better system and I thoroughly enjoyed the show and the venue. They didn't have much of a concession but a table of pizza station and drinks only. Don't go there hungry. It's not S.F. but there is nothing like it anywhere near Hopewell and I'm glad to have this near me. It's a cute venue and I would return again. read more

We went to the Beacon to see The Blind Boys of Alabama. Excellent venue. Comfortable seating. Sound was excellent. Show started on time. We arrived early because we were worried about getting in on time. There was no line and we walked right in. There is a concession stand and we ordered drinks and mingled with some friends. Went into the theatre early. Sat and waited for the show to begin and marveled at the decor and restoration. Amazing. I was in awe just sitting there thinking about all of the old vaudeville acts that must have come through there in the early part of the last century. Located right in the heart of the downtown district, the once dilapidated theater has been beautifully restored to its original condition. The venue can accommodate up to 600+ patrons and since securing a new promoter has been booking a steady stream of music artists from classic rock to R&B and specialty acts from magicians to plays. While attending a recent concert, I found the staff friendly and was pleased that both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages were available in addition to snack items. Also there is plenty of onsite/street parking available. On a side note, in addition to the music venue, the theater has two medium-sized ballrooms available for rent for that special occasion (i.e. wedding reception) or corporate event. Definitely worth a try and I have a feeling that bigger artists may follow. Enjoy. read more

Great lil theater, Robert Randolph and the Family Band were performing. Tickets were easy to purchase, we were in the orchestra pit and there are only 10 seats available and it's first come first serve. The seats were leather and they swiveled which was nice. Also there was a little table you could sit your belongings on if you wanted but that ended up getting moved out of the way so we could dance. The theater was clean, good sound system without blowing my eardrums out. I would definitely drive the 2 hours again to watch RR&FB there! read more

Very Impressed with the it looks in side compared to 10yrs ago. We came to see Leon Russell and was impressed with the sound. All the seats are new but the decor was left original and looks amazing. They have a small concession area with coke products and a couple of different beers,wine and some liquor. Food options are slim. But we came for the music not the food and had a great time. We will be back and soon. read more

Went here to see Ashley Monroe with my little brother! The experience was an extremely positive one--parked right across the street (free), was able to get a beer in my hand, and sit super close to the performer. And--Ashley killed it. Best performer I've seen all summer! Wish that I had known Lee Ann was there just a month before... Besides that, literally nothing to complain about this cute and nice theater. To say that this theater has been lovingly restored to its original state would be a huge lie! This theater has been beautifully restored cosmetically but the overall sound system has been completely upgraded - and the acoustics are divine... I had the pleasure of listening to a "regular" downloaded song on the sound system and I was honestly blown away by how beautiful every note sounded. I cannot wait to attend a live show, and what a cool, eclectic line up they have coming! Congrats to all involved in the project. read more

Unfortunately we had a few drunk assholes sitting behind us who couldn't keep their mouths shut. This forced most of our row to find another seat after complaining to the staff. I go to, at least, two concerts a year at the Beacon. This is the best venue in Virginia as far as I'm concerned. I've seen funk, jazz, country, rock and all of it sounds good in this theater. I drive an hour and a half to see a show here and it's worth it every time. Do yourself a favor and check the website often because they're always adding shows. I have to say that I, along with MANY others, was disappointed in the Motown music show on Saturday night, not with the actual show itself, which was great!---but with the lead up to it. We arrived at 6:30 p.m. and were sent to the bar area while they did a "sound check". We got to our seats at 7:10 p.m. and then an opening guitarist came on and played 18 songs!!!- ballads! He sang unendingly, for over an hour. It was grueling. He forgot his lyrics to some of the songs and his guitar strings broke toward the end, for which my whole row was happy. It was soooo long and drawn out it was unbelievable. And, quite frankly, the people who were there to hear Motown music were NOT there to hear Bob Dylan ballads and songs this guy made up himself. However, when the real show began it was great! I enjoyed this particular show but would not return to this theater again because of how the entire operation was run. Be careful when you decide what show to attend here. read more

Pretty good considering there's no other competition in town. This is the only place to catch a good concert if you don't want to schlep all the way up to Richmond. Good seats and sound, reasonable prices. No food besides popcorn and candy so don't come needing a meal. Wish they had something, even if it wasn't much maybe just like grilled cheeses or soemthing simple for people wanting a hearty eat. Bot other than that no probelmos. Some of the artists do free meet and greets afterwards so definitely hang around after the show. read more

The Beacon Theatre located in Hopewell, VA is a beautiful venue to host your special event. The building has been recently renovated, and presents both a blend of southern charm and modern features, that can be accommodable to suit any party's needs. However, I was very unsatisfied with my most recent experience at the Beacon Theatre due to the unprofessional staff (event planner/coordinator). I encouraged one of my very dear friends to get married at this location, after visiting the Beacon Theatre on numerous occasions for other weddings; however, I soon came to regret my encouragement. The event planner/coordinator seemed to be uncommitted to her obligations, and was noted as being tardy at many pre-wedding meetings, or did not show up at all. Her lack of commitment was very frustrating to the bride who was planning her special day, however throughout the entire process the bride remained passive and continued to keep her faith in Stephanie's (event coordinator) ability to do her job. On the day of the wedding Stephanie was completely unprofessional, and seemed to have little or no respect for the bride and groom's wishes on their big day. Herself and an attending guest of the wedding were screaming at each other in a heated argument, overtop of the DJ introducing the bride and groom into the reception. The argument was so disruptive; all guests were paying more attention to the argument unfolding than to the bride and groom being announced. As the wedding planner stormed out, she ran directly in to the bride and groom as they were walking in to the reception. The argument got so involved, that the police were called. To ensure the safety of the guests, the reception was ended a few minutes after the bride and groom's first dance. My friend and her husband's wedding was ruined, and they were not given any input to the course of action to be taken once the argument took place. I was astonished that the Beacon did not have the venue staffed with more than one completely unprofessional woman calling the "shots". She even told guests on numerous occasions, that she was already on "probation" for her job, due to numerous previous run-ins. Wedding planners/coordinators are suppose to exhibit hospitable behaviors, while ensuring that the needs and wants of the bride, groom, wedding party, and guests are all met. They should also remain calm in the face of adversity, and should be personable to all guests while ensuring no detail has been overlooked. I am currently pursuing my M.B.A, and have my undergraduate degree in business. Therefore, I can say with the upmost confidence, that this woman has very little skills in business relations. If the Beacon Theatre wants to be a reputable venue for weddings or corporate events, the organization will immediately let their wedding planner go, and find a wedding planner/ event coordinator who is more qualified at meeting others' needs than simply meeting her own. The organization should also make sure the venue is staffed with numerous workers to handle parties of larger capacity. This organization must have very little management and needs a complete overhaul if they want to make it as a venue in the future. The number one goal of a bride/groom is to find a venue that is both cost effective and that will cater to the needs of the couple's wishes. Although, the Beacon is a very affordable venue the experience was completely lacking efficiency. I would NOT recommend this venue to any bride/groom, and neither would the impartial DJ who was quoted saying over the microphone, "I will never DJ at the Beacon again, or recommend it to any couple." read more

If I could give the Beacon 0 stars I'd give them -5. I attended a wedding there over the weekend. While the wedding its self was absolutely beautiful, the reception on the other hand was a compete disaster thanks to the Event Coordinator!!!!! After the wedding all the guests went upstairs to the reception while the bridal party took pictures. Before the Bride & Groom could make it up, the Coordinator singled out this one table. The couple there had brought their own drink because they knew the only thing being served was tea( which was awful by the way) & beer that the bridal party brought to sell. Which the coordinator knew about and said it was fine. This couple only had kool-aid in their cup! Not to mention several others had brougt in their own cups. The coordinator insisted there was liquor in it. So she proceeded to kick them out! And upon trying to defend the couple, the Grooms' father was told to leave as well! So they did. But no, not good enough!! She calls the police!! No one was being loud or out of hand. I think she was crazy and racist. No one ever said we had to use the designated cups provided(which were tiny). She then tried to have everyone thrown out by the police and press charges. The police however said that no crime was being committed and there fore could not press any charges. So still not satisfied, she proceeds to shut it down and tell everyone to leave. Never in my life have I seen such piss poor service. I myself will NEVER attend anything being held at the Beacon!!!!!!! read more
