Following a couple of good lunches here I tried breakfast this morning. We were not greeted as we walked in, despite a group of 3 people huddled around the greeters podium. So we said good morning and were seated. Irritatingly, in a far from full restaurant (and it is a large place) we were squeezed next to another couple and then 10 minutes later a party of 4 was squeezed in next to us. I understand why restaurants do this but from a customer point of view, it's annoying and ridiculous. We ordered coffee, peppermint tea, a full English breakfast and an avocado/smoked salmon/poached egg on toast. The food came out quickly but I had to ask for our drinks. (I noted exactly the same thing happened to the table of 4 next to us and they too had to ask). Watching the bar staff it seems like a disorganised shambles behind the bar. Having worked in hospitality I was desperate to get up there and sort them out. Looked like a case of too many chiefs and they were just getting in a panic. Also, they are so slow. There is no sense of urgency to their movements. Drove me mad watching them. The food was average and unfortunately the poached eggs were stone cold. We paid and left without a single person thanking us or wishing us a good day. I'm so disappointed as I had two good lunches last week (positive reviews left on another site) but this morning's experience really put me off. read more
