Honestly I was standing outside right in front of this steakhouse and thought god damn, this must me THE PLACE for steaks in Amsterdam.
We walked right in, got a table for two and ordered.
All in all was great up until this point. We ordered two rib eyes medium-rare. After a while we were wondering how long does a medium-rate steak take them? We and another couple were the only guests in the restaurant.
The open kitchen concept looked pretty amazing to me and from the inside we also thought 'wow can
You imagine how delicious the steaks must be in here?' - right up front.. it wasn't the case. Unfortunately.
We got two well-done rib eyes. So I thought 'can happen' shouldn't happen in this price range but it can. I was waiting for the server to come by and ask how the steaks are. He never showed up so I waved over to the front counter and asked him to please come over. I explained I ordered two medium-rare rib eyes and not well-done. He quickly responded 'oh yea I see it' took the steak away immediately and said I'll get a new one.
Great response. Good job, could've not done it better.
So I was waiting for my second steak. After a short while I received it and thought yea the timing feels much better than the first try.
I cut into the first bite and ate it. It was good.
It was a bit cold inside. So I took my knife cut it in the center piece again and well.. here we are.. a completely rare and cold steak on my plate. Not medium rare, not English, not even cooked. Cold and rare like a piece of meat right from your fridge.. I was more than disappointed that they weren't able to prepare the steak to my order.
Yes we received two beers on the house while waiting for the second steak. Great gesture. Would've just made the experience better if the second steak was cooked to my order which it unfortunately wasn't.
And to all disappointment in the end asking for the check we had to see there's a bottle of white wine 42€ on our check which we didn't order. That made the impression even worse.
Some of you might ask why give 3 stars instead of one? Because I'm working in the restaurant industry myself I know how bad a one star review is and how bad it looks on yelp or google or wherever.
To me it's important that you guys read this - understand it and make up your own mind.
I'll visit this place again next year and see if they took anything out of this review. If they did I will obviously higher the stars if this review. read more
