We stayed for two nights with four families, and while there were some positives, the experience left a lot to be desired. Upon arrival, we noticed a strong gas-like smell in the entryway, lobby, and partway down the hall to our rooms. When I asked about it, I was told it wasn't gas but "fumes." Apparently, the fire department had been called the day prior and cleared the issue, but the smell was still extremely concerning. The rooms themselves were disappointing--dark, outdated, and in need of serious TLC. The TVs were old, the hair dryer was barely attached to the wall, and the ceiling above the shower was cracked. The heating system made a loud ringing noise all night, which made it hard to sleep. We also thought we booked rooms with queen-sized beds, but they were actually full-sized, which was frustrating. On the bright side, the kids enjoyed the game room, though many of the video games weren't working. The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas and Hanukkah in the lobby, and there were festive trees throughout the building. The bar hours were confusing and inconsistent. It closed early on both nights, and the bartender seemed annoyed that the wedding party didn't show up, despite initially saying the bar would stay open until 2 a.m. One nice aspect was that the hotel was empty over Thanksgiving weekend, which meant the kids could run around freely without bothering anyone. The staff seemed indifferent to what guests did in the common areas--both a blessing and a bit concerning. Overall: While the holiday decor and some aspects of the stay were nice, the outdated rooms, odd smells, and lack of attention to detail made this a less-than-stellar experience. I've stayed here in the past, and never had an experience quite like today. We checked in and dumped our stuff in our room because we're here for a convention and we're eager to get to it and have some fun. After hanging out at the convention we returned to our room to find the following: 1) My reservation I called and made was not found. The person who was checking in before me, their reservation was not found. I was told that sometimes they just write down the reservation information and sometimes it doesn't get put into the system. This is a huge issue for me. Most reservations require a credit card to be on file, and I can't remember if they took my credit card number or not. If they're writing down credit card numbers and leaving them on the front desk I do not feel safe giving my information to them over the phone now. What's to stop them from taking my credit card information home and buying stupid shit, or someone finding it and taking the paper my info is written on? This is a terrible practice. 2) The room has not been properly cleaned in between guests. The previous tenant's garbage is still in the can. 3) The bathroom had the used toiletries in the shower. The shampoo, conditioner, and soap are all opened and just sitting there. 4) The sink in the bathroom has blue-green toothpaste all over it. There are two wet towels sitting on the sink with what looks like green makeup all over them. 5) The HVAC unit in the room is running non-stop and even on "coldest" it's still putting out heat, which is making it unbearable in here. 6) Because of the heat I tried to open the window. The window lock is broken off, the crank is broken off and hanging, and the wooden inside of the window is broken off. I put it back together, but I shouldn't have to. Unfortunately many of the previous reviews are quite accurate. Walking down the halls on the second floor looks like a scene from a 1970's horror film. Dark, outdated, dingy. The tables we were given for the convention all are damaged. The plastic edging isn't even touching wood in many places because there are large chunks missing. The frustrating part is the staff here is nice as can be. There's a great lady who is working the front desk I spoke with about the wet towels, and since they have a "use the black towels for makeup" policy I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to get charged. read more

We attended a wedding here and, while the wedding was lovely, the hotel experience was a disaster from start to finish. I won't belabor the details and will just list the low points in bullet form: -the room smelled strongly of soap, like they were trying to hide a bad smell -there was supposed to be a mini fridge but our room didn't have one -the lighting was yellow and made everyone look jaundiced -the fire alarm went off (false alarm) the first night. It buzzed for over an hour. They eventually just silenced it and the strobe lights were still flashing when we left 2 days later -the water pressure was intense (think, leave the loofa at home, the water will exfoliate on its own) -they gave us two conditioners and no shampoo -the plant based option at the wedding reception was particularly bad: the appetizer salad was literally a handful of plain spinach (because the default option had bacon and feta), and the entree was zucchini chunks and rotini (no flavor) -our door lock broke the second night. The concierge had to let us in using his master key for the rest of our stay -the food on the catered breakfast buffet the day after the wedding was cold, and they didn't have any vegan options other than fruit. I also asked for sugar free syrup and peanut butter and they had neither. Who doesn't have peanut butter?! (Oh wait, this place.) -on the up side, every single person we interacted with was top notch. This would be a five star hotel if the staff had better resources to work with. read more

This is supposed to be a Wyndham trademark hotel. I wanted to stay somewhere nice. What I got was the complete opposite. Dirty, out-dated, musty, and lack of staff/bare bones restaurant. Was put in a room far away from front door of hotel (even though hotel was empty.). This made it difficult to get my things to the room (no one does that for you at this "upscale" place). Key card didnt work throughout my stay. Had to continually trek to the desk to get it fixed. Rooms are old. Dirty. Holes in the lampshade in my room. Tv ancient and doesn't work (takes screen 20 seconds to register the picture when you change the channel). The conference rooms are ok, and outside is pleasant looking (on the front), but little has been done to update this hotel in 20 years. The roof is leaking throughout different areas, the exercise room has no ventilation and is the size of a closet. No cleaning products are available even though covid is going on and there's a sign saying you have to clean off the machines. The smell of sweat knocks you out when you walk in the room. I tried to walk around the hotel outside to get some exercise and a homeless person was in the parking lot following me. I had to resort to walking around inside the hotel and what I saw was very disappointing. Peeling wallpaper, leaking ceilings, old, peeling pleather furniture. The pool was dirty throughout my stay. Not once was it cleaned nor I see anybody vacuuming the hallways. I asked for clean sheets and a new pillow and it took hours when I checked in to get them -only to find that they threw them on the dirty carpet in front of my door. The hotel restaurant only had appetizers and I ended up paying $25 for a salad and some fried mozz sticks. No breakfast is served at this hotel. I asked about the restaurant that serves sushi and dinners they advertise on their sign and they didn't know what I was talking about. It turns out there is a restaurant connected to the hotel but for some reason, the staff at Paws doesn't know it exists! I can safely say that I will not be returning to this hotel, and I definitely do not recommend that you stay here. read more

My usual spot in Aurora was sold out, so I ended up here again (last visit was 2012). It's clear that for whatever reason - lack of $, or interest - this place has had few upgrades for decades. If you enjoyed the 80's (maybe the 70's), you'll like the decor. Dark hallways with blood red carpet and dim lighting will have you thinking "The Shining" & muttering "redrum" as you walk to your room. My room always had a bit of a damp, musty smell (think old towels let sit WAY too long in the machine) that even blasting the AC couldn't beat. Lighting the. The room is also dark, and the dryer is one of those tiny wall-unit ones, so if you plan to style your hair, that dryer won't do much (esp for long hair). Bedding was ok, but the lights are crazy. Most hotels figure you just want to reach over to switch the light on or off. Not here - less your arms are really long, you'll need to stand or reach WAY up to try and get the switch. I think they must do enough local weddings and events that they don't need to upgrade the rooms (if you drink enough, the smells and dark lighting and old stuff don't seem bad?), but if you want a decent fresh-smelling bright room after a day working, this is not an inviting spot. I might even face thedrive from Cleveland rather than face this place again. read more

The Bertram was a really nice hotel. We stayed for 2 nights around 4th of July this year, and were very pleased with our stay. We arrived at 11 pm, and found the parking lot mostly empty, which was kind of creepy, but the desk clerk told us that they usually don't get busy until the weekends. When we checked out Friday morning, we found lots of people coming in for a conference or wedding of some sort, so I guess he was right on that front. Our room had 2 beds and a parlor room attached to it, which was really nice for having friends come hang out with us for happy hour. It was also really nice having 2 bathrooms for the 4 of us staying in the room. According to the desk clerk, the hotel was built 15ish years ago by a lady who wanted to the hotel to have the feel of the really nice hotels of yore (not like the modern hotel chains, but something a little grander). Thus, the hallways are somewhat dim, and the hotel feels older than it is. But I think it gave it character. We didn't eat at the hotel, so I can't speak as to the food, but the menus looked really good and the prices weren't unreasonable. I was rather disappointed in the pool. While large and very clean (infinity style), it was advertised as being heated. Yes, I understand it's July, but the temperatures were in the 60s when we visited, and the pool water was definitely not heated. All in all, I would definitely stay here again. read more

Really poor experience. The welcome person is for a fact not welcoming. I arrived after a 20 hours trip at 11 pm. The girl looked at her clock like "it's late lady". Then horrible process with her and was given wrong information. Then let's get to the room; cold like crazy and horrible decoration. Then went to the bar and asked for wine. No wine list. Horrible service. Then going back to the room with the breakfast from the morning on my door! It was not mine. I would add that the second time, for a conference, was not better at all. Sad, sad building and people, really rude people. Don't try to get the WiFi or a good temperature room, it's not feasible there. And imagine, their crew coming inside our room during break and trashing the non finished bottles drinks from people table! What a waste and is that even allowed? Definitely not recommending this place to stay or even for a meeting conference. read more

The only reason this has any stars, is because it was a very pretty and very spacious. That's as far as it goes. My new wife and I have been planning a wedding at the Bertram for the last 2 and a half years. We've been through three wedding coordinators, each one worse than the last, but of course, we wouldn't find out how pointless having one was anyway. Danielle Jackson, at one point told us "don't worry, I'll be with you on the big day making sure everything goes well." She didn't show up till noon on the big day, with us scrambling to figure out where we were supposed to be and what we still needed to do. But even when she arrived I only saw the back of her walking away, she showed back up around 4pm, 30 minutes before the ceremony, spent ten minutes telling some frustrated people what to do (they had already figured out the plan on their own at that point), and then disappeared again. It was at this time I was informed she had multiple weddings doing on, which, okay understood, you're busy . . But That's not my problem. Don't overbook. Communicate so we know. Every time I saw her she would pretend she was running the show for ten minutes, then walk away. She was rude to many of our guests, as I learned with various stories including telling my grandmother "I AM the Bertram" when she asked if she could speak to any owners or manager. We didn't get our Champaign toast (that was paid for), our cake was never served to guests and a piece was not put to the side for us. I will say the bartenders were pretty cool and had a wonderfully heavy pour. I will also say, that perhaps someone else within the Bertram could change all this, but I wouldn't know as this was my experience. All I know, is that if you are planning a wedding, and looking at the Bertram, don't let Danielle be your wedding coordinator. read more

Extremely unorganized. Went for a wedding and part of our party had to wait until almost 10pm to get their room due to a hotel error. Food and wedding were wonderful along with the staff that took part with the wedding. However, the rooms were extremely outdated and worn. Couches with rips and a moldy/musty smell in the room, dirty walls from spills and splashes in the bathroom. Such a beautiful property on the outside, it's a shame that they don't keep up on the inside read more

Do NOT stay here during Twins Fest, even if there for a wedding on premises, unless you want to live through the equivalent of the Animal House toga party or the heart of Bourbon Street on Mardi Gras. The crowd that books here every year is there to party hearty without consideration for others, and the hotel management is too greedy for the revenue to control things or staff up accordingly. You will not sleep. Hallways, pool and all facilities will be monopolized all night long, restaurant service will be simplified. This is NOT a family environment! Despite advertising free wifi, we were unable to get any the whole time we were there and were given vague answers like "it's real spotty " when we asked. Rooms and hallways are very dimly lit also. Our reservations, which were booked well ahead of time, were not honored in terms of our family being able to be together, and we showed up for a dinner reservation in Leopard to which we had invited local extended family only to be told that Leopard was closed for the weekend due to the Twins nightmare. They did find us a quiet table and served us from the other menu, which turned out ok thank goodness. Despite being from this area originally and having family in the area, we won't be including the Bertram in any of our future plans when visiting the east side of Cleveland! read more

There is a huge problem with management here. I applied for a job as a front desk clerk. They lied to me on the phone when explaining the hours. When I got to my interview the manager and another employee where feuding in the lobby near the front desk. The manager wouldn't even stop arguing long enough to interview me. Another staff member started the interview but I soon found out that the job was completely different than advertised online or what was said in my phone interview. If these people treat their staff members or those who are interviewing with such disrespect then I can't imagine how they would treat a guest. I would never eat or lodge here. Simply put - the night manager (after 11 pm) treated myself and a friend like we were some sort of hooligans while we were gathered for a wedding rehearsal dinner party. At 10:45 PM, we asked why the pool was closed (it closes at 11). The manager, without hesitating at all, said 'it's closed and if you try to sneak in, you will be arrested.' I mean, my friend is a lawyer and I am public relations and marketing professional. The audacity of this guy to label us as threats or the type of people who commit arrest-worthy acts is beyond insulting. I have sent a letter into the hotel management seeking a full refund to 2 nights accommodations and I would not recommend the Bertram Inn to anyone. I did not fly all the way from Dallas to be treated like a criminal. read more

Again I have to say that sometimes a situation comes down to good or bad customer service, and I must say we experienced the bad. Is the hotel clean? Yes. Were the beds comfortable? They were okay. Did the bathroom have two sinks? Yes, thank you god! But the problem I'm finding in a lot of hotels recently is no overhead lighting in the shower area. Once you close the shower curtain it's complete darkness. Forget about shaving without cutting yourself ladies! Plus, the tub was super slippery. Glad I didn't break a foot for the third time (long story...). But, when it came to dealing with the front desk girl, it was not such a pleasant experience. We were staying here for a wedding in their large banquet facility. There was no notation on the invite of what ballroom it was in, so I asked the girl at the front desk. She simply said "I don't know." How do you not know what's going on in the hotel you work at??? We were walking around with a 90 year old woman, and she told is to just follow the long hallway back and it "should" be there. Well, that wasn't the case. Come to find out by some nicer hotel employees it was in the building next door. When I went back to tell her she was wrong, and to give her the heads up because more people would probably ask her, she just said, "yeah, it's the building next door." No apology. So I told her she should know where the event is in case others ask. She just shot me a bitchy look and shrugged her shoulders. Not cool. So while the hotel was clean and perfectly acceptable for a night, the service left much to be desired. read more

Gross! They didn't have our room ready so the downgraded us from King to double beds. Even though we booked several months in advance! The room we were given smelled musty and dirty, so the moved us to an even smaller room. Also housekeeping NEVER came! We get back to the room after being gone all day and no clean towels or beds made. The walls are paper thin and we were next to screaming kids that were yelling and jumping on the beds until after midnight. Don't stay here!! It was awful. read more

The staff at the Bertram Inn are amazing! I had the pleasure of working with the sales team to plan two events. Both took place on the same day, a morning party with 300+ attendees and an evening event with 400 guests. These events took months of planning; many phone calls, emails and meetings. Throughout the entire process the team at the Bertrum Inn bent over backwards to meet our needs, address our concerns, answer every question and work within our budget. These two venue's are held annually, however this is the first year at the Bertram. By far, it was our most successful. The staff was friendly, tentative and extremely flexible when we had last minute changes. The conference center's flow was marvelous. All who attended moved throughout the various areas that our venue took place in with ease and comfort. I look forward too working with the Bertrum again and again. I highly recommend entrusting this team with your special occasion, they won't let you down!! read more

I'm a wedding photographer and have been to The Bertram Inn twice this year to photograph weddings. From a behind-the-scenes perspective, I was blown away by the organization and attention to details that the coordinator contributed to my day. John Roach was in charge, and I wanted to mention his name because he couldn't have been more on the ball or helpful. This was by far the smoothest wedding I've ever photographed and will definitely recommend The Bertram Inn to any friends or acquaintances looking for a wedding venue. For years, my wife and I always wondered what the Bertram Inn was like inside. How nice was it inside this hotel? Well, we had pretty high expectations when we made the reservation. Once we showed up, WOW! What a disappointment!! I think we were the only guests in the whole hotel. We entered our room and I thought I stepped through a wormhole back to 1992. Old, outdated wallpaper, old outdated bathroom fixtures. Old and outdated everything! We asked for the wifi code and were told their wifi needed no password and was unsecured. The mattress felt worn out. You could hear the springs popping as you moved in the bed. The small tv was mounted on an outdated entertainment center. After spending 30 minutes in our room, I decided to cut our 3 day reservation short and check out in the morning and make reservations elsewhere. I won't be coming back to the Bertram Inn ever again, nor will I be recommending it to anyone. Unless they invest millions of dollars in updating this place, I won't be back. read more

I stayed here while attending a conference. As another person stated, lighting in the hallways is almost nonexistent. It is so dark that it's difficult to read signage. The room was clean and comfortable but poorly lit. There was one lamp at bed side, one on the desk and overhead only near the entrance. Very dark room. The restaurant Paws offered a good menu. DO NOT BOOK YOUR WEDDING BLOCK HERE!! Most disorganized staff ever. First, many people had issues with check-in. One of my guests had an email confirmation pulled up and they tried to tell her multiple times she didn't have a room. Then they "found" her reservation and it was completely incorrect. Then, we had confirmed two separate times before we checked in that we had the rooms correct. We asked for a hospitality suite, queen room and a one-bedroom suite for Friday night. The only one they got right was the hospitality suite. They lied to us about the one-bedroom suite so my sister had to go down and argue with the front desk staff until they gave us the "correct" one. Come to find out it wasn't a one-bedroom suite it was just two connecting rooms. We just let it go because by this point we were running late for our rehearsal. Second, we used their shuttle service for our guests to/from reception. We had asked prior to the day if we could have one last shuttle at 11:45 for the people who cleaned up. They said it was fine since the drivers work till midnight. The night of our wedding 11:45 comes around and we are ready to go but no shuttle is there. We call at midnight asking where the shuttle is and they said they would be there shortly they were finishing another drop off. By 12:30 there was still no shuttle after we called 3 times. Finally at 12:45 they come to get us which included me (bride), my husband, my parents and siblings and my best friend and her husband. We should have never had to wait that long for a shuttle we requested prior to the day of. Finally, our best man has ordered us breakfast for the next morning. Well that never came either. We had to call 2 times and they finally showed up with it 1 hour later. It was the absolute worst part of my wedding weekend. I've never had so many issues with one place. read more

I had my wedding guests stay at the Bertram Inn the weekend of June 8-10. They loved it! It's a nice location, great swimming pool, and most importantly, the hospitality suite was a total hit! The front desk reception people were always very helpful and friendly. And to top it off, they provided a shuttle to and from my wedding! We started our first day checking in and got into our room early. Yay! Very clean and impressive. Down side when we opened our curtains to look right at the pool and people laying out. We went to PAWS for lunch and the service was terrible. The food was great and worth the money. Our meeting rooms were nice. The buffet meals were good. They had great presentation at the buffet. We had a social hour. The bartenders were friendly and accommodating. They had a beautiful cheese and veggie spread. Also a beautiful and yummy dessert spread. One of the worst meals and service and way overpriced. There were 5 adults and 3 children. We went there to have an enjoyable Thanksgiving buffet diner. The servers were barely out of high school and had no idea what they were doing. Our drink order was brought to us about a third of the way through the meal. The food selection was very poor. Dried, overcooked turkey, ham and a lot of starchy side dishes that were dried out and had been sitting for a long time. We came to eat at 4:00pm which should have meant having fresh food, but this was not the case. The rolls were as hard as rocks. Potatoes and mac and cheese were institutional, dry and tasteless. The deserts were a couple of pies could have been better if they were purchased at dollar General. There were cupcakes and some cookies that tasted artificial. Adult dinners were suppose to be $30 with a discount for seniors over 65. When presented with the bill they charged everyone full price. When asked for an adjustment for the three seniors, we were told that they needed to see our I.D.'s. It's bad enough that they wouldn't take the word of the two 70 year old grandparents, but to insist on an I.D. from the 92 year old great grandmother in a wheelchair was totally out of line. They also charged the one year old baby for a full Childs meal that consisted of a few spoonfuls of mac and cheese. This place has seen better days and if their Thanksgiving meal was representative of the hotel and banquet facilities I would totally stay away from this place. We learned our lesson for next year and would never recommend this place to anyone. The $220 we spent could have provided us with a much more enjoyable evening at just half the price. read more

This place is weird. We attended a wedding here a couple of years ago and that seemed OK. Nothing too crazy to report. The room felt a little dated, but it served its purpose: house drunk wedding attendees. I recently came back for a two day work retreat in the middle of the week and everyone agreed that the place was a little off. As soon as I got checked in, I went up to my room and the lights on the floor were so dark, I forgot that it was 11am on a Tuesday and not the witching hour. I got into my room and it seemed better than what I remembered from the wedding, so that was nice. All of the food the hotel catered was good--nothing crazy, nothing bad. Every time we had a break between meetings, I would go to the bathroom or on a quick little walk. Everything in this place is brassy and strange looking. The place earned its nickname "The Shining hotel" because of these kind of outdated touches of decor and the fact that we were possibly the only people in the hotel. It was DEAD in there. Not TOO surprising in this location mid-week, but sheesh. The fitness room is a closet with mirrors. I'm thankful it was there so I could get a morning run in, but I was SO startled when I walked in and almost ran right into myself. read more

Stayed here for a week and a half for work. People in Aurora are generally nice, no complaints there. We had breakfast coupons for each morning. Depending on how busy they are, they have either a buffet or a breakfast menu. I preferred the menu, but they all had the basics. (eggs, bacon, hash browns, fruit, toast upon request) Facilities were nice. Room was darker than I'd like - but that's a personal preference. Room had a TV, desk. and small couch. I have been going to the Bertram for the past 3 years and will be going there again the end of July into August. I have been very satisfied with the staff, rooms and the restaurant. I am not sure what "a dated" room means, as I find them normal bed, bathroom, dresser, flat screen TV, table, lights. The hallways, rooms restaurant are very clean. I do not find the hallways dark. From the front desk to the maid service, wait staff, bar staff have always been friendly and professional. As I stated before this is my fourth year staying here and my stays consist of 5 - 7 day per stay. read more

Stayed here for mon to wed business trip. I was one of only 20 people staying in a huge hotel. While this hotel is perfectly built for conferences with several huge meeting rooms and several buildings, it is not ideal for a hotel. Their "fitness center" has 6 machines jammed in to a ~ 500 sq feet room. The decor is stuck in a 1980's hunting lodge style. I was in a king room and the tv and amenities were from early 2000's. Overall expect your stay to be similar to staying at a la Quinta or best western. read more

This is my second Visit in a week to the BERTRAM. The 1st being on a Sat. Evening, with 4 e Weddings going on throughout the hotel. I was not here for any of those reasons. I am considered handicapped, but didn't want to take that room, as someone who is worse off then myself my have needed it. Your hotel receptionist was great getting me as close to the front of the building as possible. Thank you to both ladies. We came down to the hostess for the fine dining in your Leopards Restaurant, after reading the brochure in our room. Which made our mouth water, after traveling all day & not eating. Your hostess outside of Paws (a young girl ) looked like a dear caught in the headlights of a car) said she didn't know Where that was ??? REALLY ??? To our great relief another waitress took the lead, and in through the Paws, behind a curtain, was what we were looking for. A wonderful, exciting, upbeat meal, served by an entertaining young man, Sean. What a Fantastic evening it turned out to be. Now on to the second stay. We again got a room near the front entrance, not as close, but it worked out. Not until after dinner did we figure out why. They were replacing all the TV's to Flat screens. So again we had dinner in Leopards, again it was Awesome. Thank you Sean. You have a very valuable employee there ! Unfortunately our room had NO HEAT. IT WAS COLD LAST NIGHT. All we got was cold blowing air. Partner would Not let me say anything to front desk, so throat is a bit sore this am. P.s One Outlet in room really doesn't work. Went to a friends wedding over 200 people attended. The facility was setup beautiful. Be careful anyone over the 250 lbs mark, chairs are old and antique . Don't lean you'll have an accident. They apparently ran out of salads because half got the lettuce and cranberries, 10 minutes later the other side got goat cheese and pecans. The main meal came out better. The meal was warm and the food was great filet and fish very tasty. I was happy again. The staff was far and few in between. We had the cook with a dirty apron and some thug with a garbage bag walk by our table checking out the girls and band. We thought they were coming to pickup the pile of dishes on the tray by the bar door, had been sitting for 45+minutes. Piles of dishes sat on tables most of the night.. Thank god the brides mom said something.. The bar was understaffed for this group because it was a min. 15 wait. But that might of been all the wedding party paid for. The bartenders were very apologetic for our wait..The staff was completely disorganized . One young gentleman seem to be doing everything, while the others occasionally picked up a glass and walked away for her additional 15 minute brake. Then to appear to stop out to pickup a few dishes to disappear again..dishes piled on trays stayed out most of the night. A table next to the floor had a mother comforting a child but had to push her plates to the center of the table..cake was served but they forgot the forks.. It came out 20 minutes after it was served..I stayed and my suite was wonderful. Clean sheets clean room. Loved it and had a restful night.. This review has taken a while to write. I am writing from the perspective of someone who was in charge of booking a week long conference and then staying at the hotel. I'll start with some of the glitches. Online booking was tempermental. I finally advised folks to call in. No problem there. Upon arrival, there were minor flaws in many of the rooms - phones that did not work, loose toilet seats, etc. Again this was a large group, and the number of complaints was small. They also attended to the issues in a timely manner. There were also some minor scheduling snafus that made me refer back to our contract. One other issue. The pool is nice, but might be nicer if there was an indoor option. Also, would be nice to have a hot tub. Now the positives. The rooms were spacious and clean. The meeting rooms were very nice with great acoustics. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. If these glitches got fixed, I would give it 5 stars. Overall, though, I would highly recommend this place. read more

Took my wife and in-laws to Paws Restaurant at the Bertran on Sunday for a special family dinner and to treat them all. We were served promptly to a nice table, waited on promptly by a very nice young lady. The food came quickly and everyone enjoyed a great meal. I have visited the Bertram Inn on a number of occasions. I've gone with my husband for a weekend getaway. Ive been there for events in their banquet rooms. I've gone for an elegant dinner at the Leopard, and I've stopped in for a drink and appetizers at Paws, as well as brunch in the morning. I appreciate the variety of options available. I especially enjoyed Paws because it is a bit more casual and relaxing. One might think that a lounge in a sophisticated, upscale facility would be stuffy, but it's very comfortable and welcoming. I like a good mixed cocktail, and their martini menu has over a hundred options! I can also be a little picky about how I want my drink prepared, and I found the staff eager to satisfy my requests. If you're in the area stop in for a cocktail and apps or a nice dinner. If you're looking for a relaxing weekend stay, the Bertram is the place. read more

Easter Brunch Buffet could be way better--and it starts with us patrons. My loved ones and I had the opportunity this Easter to experience the Bertram's Easter Brunch Buffet for the first time. Immediately, there were warning signs--unclear signage of where the buffet was being held, having to wait 10 minutes for a table even though we had made a prior reservation, and in the men's room, paper towels scattered on the floor and urinals left unflushed. Once we were seated, it unfortunately didn't get much better: by the time we began eating around 1:30pm, some of the dishes (especially the breakfast items) had gotten cold, the service was overall quite slow (although I will admit our waitress was at least kind when she attended to us--thanks, Sue!), and perhaps most discouraging of all, the breakfast tables in the back of the room were surrounded by crumbs and food particles that forced me and others to tiptoe our way around. I can't say I fully blame the Bertram staff for this experience. Although they were slow, it was understandable given that this was a busy day, and my party was attending near the end of the brunch period. What was most discouraging to me was the attitude of the patrons around us: lots of families with children who basically walked (or ran) wherever they wanted. I'm going to guess this is the reason for the crumbs around the breakfast tables, or the paper towels on the men's room floor. I hope I'm wrong about this, but these were families who appeared to me like they spent most of the year eating at home or ordering fast-food, and this was the one time a year that they paid for a more expensive meal. (That is, if they paid at all--my party was shocked to discover that the two adults sitting at our table previously had left without paying the $35 each for the buffet. Such are the low standards presumably held by those who attended this buffet. Police, if you're reading this, please investigate.) I look forward to never going back to the Bertram's Easter Brunch Buffet--that is, unless drastic changes are made. And that doesn't just mean to get more attentive and quicker staff, or even to increase the food options or quality (the only reason this review is getting two stars rather than one is because the food, albeit lukewarm, at least tasted decent). It means that potential patrons like you should have the courtesy to treat this buffet as the fancy outing that it was probably designed to be. That means dressing up, being polite, keeping kids in line, cleaning up your messes, using the restrooms better than you use them at your own house, and, you know, freaking paying for the meal. I stayed there for three days for a conference. The hotel is just not nice. The lighting in the corridors and the rooms is extremely poor. The layout is difficult to understand. I could not find my room while hauling my luggage. I passed an employee who seemed to be having difficulty locating a room as well. I asked where room 138 was and she barked at me that she "worked here and can't find anything either!" She just kept on moving. This leads me to customer service. It was poor throughout the conference. The hotel food was terrible. (I'm given to understand the restaurant in the hotel is good. I did not dine there. I am reviewing the hotel food provided to us for the conference which was breakfast, lunch, and one dinner.) I would not recommend this hotel.
