I took my bike in to this store to get the brakes replaced which I expected to be about $200. The person that looked at my brakes said that he believed that this particular brake system had been recalled by the manufacturer. He checked and was sure that I was a candidate and said that I should take my bike in to an authorized dealer and they would replace them for free. Sure enough, my BF took it in to an authorized dealer and they did it for free (after they tried to charge us $100 for labor which my BF protested). They advertise a comfortable environment, was true up until one employee suggested the reason my flats were so frequent was due to my weight. Possible? Yeah, maybe. Reasonable to bring up to a paying customer trying to remedy that with said purchase? Not really. I still give them stars for what services were provided to me before this experience but couldn't recommend them now in good faith. Your local Surly dealer! If you know the bike brand Surly, you know they're renowned for quality, but what I like is the little things. Like the Surly Tuggnut. It's a chain tensioner used so you can really power down on the pedals without pulling the sprocket side of the axel forward. Not a problem most people have, but I do. In any case the coolest part of the Tuggnut is its integral bottle opener. As a beer loving cyclist, I feel the need to outfit my bike with a bottle opener. The reason I mentioned the Tuggnut is because twice, when I wanted one right now, they had it in stock! And that's impressive in my book. They build wheels too! read more

Sweet little shop with some cool employees. Very helpful and understanding even during this covid-19 era. They have the shop still open with some lessen hours. And only a few people inside store at a time. But they do have alot of bikes locked up out front to give you some ideas if you got to wait a minute. We called before hand to make sure they were open and able to get some kids bikes. Yes and yes.. We went to a few other local stores who were sold out and just no time to put bikes apart do to so.many repairs customers bikes. Since bikes are now being used more than one would think, but that's why we are here. They have a good amount of bikes and set up ones to see. Luckily when we showed up we got the last 2 that were ready. They were putting them together just as fast as they were being sold. And they had shipments coming in as we waited for the paperwork to be done. And yes there ended up being 3 other families coming in to buy bikes for the kids and would have to wait for new ones that just came in to be built. They have plenty of accessories for the bikes from bottles, holders, bells, seats, air pumps etc. They got all your basic needs to accessorize your ride. So go one and pimp it out lol. You do get a 90 day(?) Break in period where you can bring it back to get things tightened up after the break in period. And also a year warranty on stuff... I didn't quiet here him well but I can easily call and ask soon. read more

I don't expect a business to be ass-kissy to a customer however, probably not a good idea to be belligerent and rude. And if you are going to behave that way, you'd better damn well be the owner of the company. The original work that was done on my bike was incomplete. One of the shifters did not work. They made it sound like it was my fault for not understanding mechanics of my bike. This is what I go to a bike store for! We had discussed the complexity of the handlebar exchange before any work was done.( the dude said, "you asked us to replace the handlebar and we did exactly as you asked" or something like that. If they foresaw a problem, they should've spoken to me first, before going ahead and working on the bike.) If the guy that worked with me goes back and looks our conversation and my tone, he'll perhaps see that I was being as genuinely inquisitive and respectful as possible. ( he pumped my tires up and afterwards said ,it hits the mud guard, since it hits the mudguard , I will have to deflate the tire" to which I asked, "Is that safe?Can't you adjust the bumper instead?" That's when he seemed to lose it. seems like a logical question, no?) Probably I will not take my bike there again, and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone else either. This is my go-to spot for random bike needs. I commute to work from Oak park to Elk Grove on a regular basis weather permitting. I've gone here on a few occasions. -needing some work done on my commuter -picking up tubes -picking up accessories like bike racks and bags Everyone seems pretty nice here. The one lady that helped out with my bag purchase knew the right questions to ask. I love it when people dont try to sell me on the latest hotness and instead speak to utility. Sometimes, you really do need the 400 dollar bag.. sometimes a 40 dollar bag will do fine. A good sales person will ask the questions to figure this out. They have some pretty neat looking bikes out too, as soon as I can justify buying a new one ill probably do it here. read more

I haven't shopped here in decades. I'm sure it's under new ownership since the last time I've been here. I just needed a rear wheel. I was greeted by sales person who asked me what I needed, and they promptly took down my order. When I arrived to pick it up a couple weeks later, they were gracious enough to put the wheel together for me with a new tube and tire. It seems like nobody has good customer service these days, but I was very satisfied with the attention I got. I thought to myself they actually care that I am actually shopping here. Sadly in the middle of the pandemic every place I visited in the Sacramento area had either 0 inventory, or they only had budget bikes and super expensive bikes. My boyfriend has had a growing love for fixies in the past couple years, and along the way I got sucked in too. Bicycle Business seems to be the best shop we have come across so far (and we have been to a lot....) with the friendliest employees and widest selection. I don't know much about putting a fixie together or about all of the parts of a fixie, but I've learned enough along the way to notice that they have a lot to offer here. Whenever we need something, this is the go-to shop. Today I was able to have my tires pumped for free...finally getting my bike out of the garage! Freshly moved from SF to Sac and had to find a great bike shop. Insert The Bicycle Biz, located not too far from where I stay and close to downtown and the 4th Avenue streetcar station (AND Marie's Doughnuts for those keeping score!) and what a score it was to find this gem of a shop! They helped me switch out tires and a couple accessories on my original recon mission of the shop and previous visits, but I've been forever looking to give my Surly Long Haul Trucker the perfect setup. Well they not only succeeded but dialed me up like nobody's business! I walked out this afternoon with Moloko bars for a more upright position and multiple hand position possibilities and what feels like a brand new bike! Love supporting local business. But the advantage small businesses have over bigger outlets is service. Right before COVID, I dropped by asking if they could get me a fender for my Bianchi. They took all my info and said they'd call me back in a few days. Never heard back. Called a few days after I was told I would hear back to inquire and left another message. No call back. Hmmm. Yesterday, I rolled up at 1030 for a bike repair; apparently they open at 11. There was employee with a leaf blower out front who gave me the news. So I came back at 3:05 p.m. Apparently they close at 3. After an employee saw me semi-bummed at the door, he came out to tell me sorry Charlie, we're closed. The neon "OPEN" sign was still glimmering in the window. I get that bike shops are busy now because of COVID. But c'mon. 5 minutes late and an open sign blaring and you wont give a guy a break after you've been open only 4 hours? Doesn't seem cool. The repair person was very receptive and recommended some additional things that I should do and I was glad I did them. Especially recommending a new handle bar. Came here back in 2013 after putting in nearly 100hrs on my fixie build and not getting anywhere with it, eventually it ended up in a landfill somewhere or at the bottom of the ocean or did I give it to the homeless guy on 19th. Well anyways I called in and they had a few fixes/single speed on hand. Heard that and out the door I was. I felt like a kid in a candy shop. Got there and the workers are super cool and down to earth. Go ahead ask any questions about bikes, they'll hook it up with a smile. Shop is super clean and all the parts you need. After spending about 25 min in the shop with these guys and all the knowledge they were throwing at me I REALLY thought I was going to be a pro bicyclist lol. I left the shop with a shinny new Fuji. On August 12, 2020, my wife and daughter and I went to "The Bicycle Business" (3077 Freeport Blvd. Sacramento, CA 95818) bike shop to look at some bikes. Upon arriving, we greeted outside by an employee named Cooper. We told Cooper what we were looking for and he said great, let's start outside. After my wife and I test rode the Bianchi bikes, we made our decision. We asked Cooper about the price again to be sure, because the bikes had 2 price tags on them. The original price of $1039.99 and the sales price of $949.99. He again stated that both bikes were the same price and pointed out the $949.99 price tag on the bikes. A few days later while talking with my friend Josh. He asked what size was my bike. I told him a 59" inch. He said really? I said yep. He said mine is a 61" inch hold on. He then went inside and got his bike and placed it up against mine to compare the height. He then said, ok yours might be a 59" inch. I forgot I'm much taller and my seat is adjusted higher. So I went home and looked at the receipts. Upon looking at the receipts for the sizes, I noticed that the cashier had charged us the full price for both of the bikes instead of the sales price. But hey, no worries, we were sure it was a simple mistake and all we had to do was bring it to their attention (But No) On Monday, August 17th, 2020, I went back to "The Bicycle Business" to try and get this rectified. Aaron the manager came out and asked how could he help, I then proceeded to explain what happened with the bikes and the price and showed him the receipts and explained that we were over charged for the bikes. His response was, as he was trying to short stop me from continuing what I was trying to convey. Aaron: "Hey, we sell two different bikes for two different prices. If you want to bring those bikes back I'll refund you the full price and sell you some bikes for $949". Me: Ok, but the bikes I bought were $949, what I would like for you to do is give me a credit for the difference. (But He Refused) Aaron: Again, I can give you a refund for those bikes and sell you some bikes for $949. Me: Listen, when we came here the other day. Cooper assisted us in our buying process. When inquiring about the bikes of our choice, we asked Cooper if both bikes were $949. Because all the bikes outside had sales tags on them as well as the original price tag and Cooper said yes. They're both $949. We then said ok, we'll take them both. Aaron: Hey man, I'm not in the habit of selling $1040 bikes for $950 Me: I understand that, but these were $949 and your employee Cooper said that they were $949. Aaron: If you're not satisfied with the bikes you can just return them. Me: It's not about me being satisfied with the bikes, it's about you doing the right thing and honoring what was told to us and the fact that the bikes had sales tags on them for $949. Me: Ok Listen (pointing towards some other bikes in the shop) that bike says $2599 correct? (he nods as to imply yes) If I ask you how much for that bike and you tell me $2599 and the tag says $2599, then I'm expecting to pay $2599...But when I go to pay for it you tell me it's $2799, that's misleading and you have to sell me the bike for what its advertised as, Correct?.....He says nothing and just shrugs his shoulders...like ok whatever....(now we're just standing there in silence) I then ask him to come outside with me for a second (he agrees) I head towards the bikes that are outside, I go directly to one of the bikes that were identical to the ones I purchased. I said to him, what does that price tag say? Does it not say $949?.....(He says nothing but points at another price tag, the original one) I said ok, but what does the sale price say? And if you're not selling these for this price, why do you have these on here? (He then snatches the sale price tag off of the bike) Once again I say ok, that means nothing to me...I was still told by your employee Cooper that the bikes we purchased were $949 as well as the bikes having a $949 price tag on them and you have to honor that. Aaron: Hey man, I can't be responsible for the mistakes of my employees. Me: Ok, so that's my fault? I think not. You guys should have taken those down if that wasn't the correct price. But you have to honor what was told to me. (So I say to him) you see these Adidas I have on? If I walk into a store and they have a price tag on them for $100 but there on a sales rack with some other Adidas for 30% off, they have to honor that. Period! So this is the same thing and by state law, (he interrupts and says): Aaron: Don't hit me with the state law BS man! Me: Hey man, it is what it is. Aaron: Again, If you're not satisfied with the bikes you can return them. Me: And again, I'm not returning anything. I like my bikes and it's not about me being satisfied with them or not. It's about you doing the right thing, and that's adjusting my bill. read more

While it was definitely pricey to get my bike tuned up, let's be fair I had a lot of things that needed fixin'. Especially since I had been riding it on the pot-holes and through the mud while living in New Orleans for two years ;) These guys are legit. During the coronavirus shutdown, we needed help with my front brakes, since they kept dragging on the wheel. We went to the shop, and the person there said he couldn't let us in - only two people allowed in the store at once - but he asked what we needed. We explained, and he showed us how simple it was to fix it - just center the wheel, then adjust the brake. They could have made money off of our repair job, but instead chose to explain to us how to fix it. I think a business that's both competent AND honest, especially during difficult times when they're probably losing money, deserves five stars. read more

Wow. Sac has some great bike shops and The Bicycle Business just became our favorite. My darling wife has a ride planned for tomorrow but she really wanted to get a new stem installed first. "I can do that honey, we don't need to take it to the shop." That's how it started. 20 minutes later I'm on my hands and knees trying to find all of the headset parts scattered about the garage. After I confess, my wife looks for the closest shop that's open. TBB is closing soon but they say, "Come on over." 10 minutes later Ryan is showing me how the headset goes back together and managing to do it without making me feel like an idiot. Rather than fixing my mistake and then rushing us out of the store, Ryan proceeded to help with the new stem install, adjust the rear shock and be an all around great guy. By the time we leave the shop I've taken a Surley bike for a ride (very cool, check them out) done a little shopping, and had a beer. Come to find out the tech said the frame didn't really need the service but still charged me a full price of $50. I come from a well cultured and honest work background. What a wonderful and nice group of folks working in this shop. My husband and I walked in and everyone greeted us, and while we are obviously not experienced urban riders, they had no attitude or judgment towards us. I had a small minor bump in my tire and they enthusiastically took my bike and fixed it within minutes. It rides like a dream now - well for an older, not very cool, bicycle. I was in the middle of a 100km ride when I got a flat about a block from this place. I had a spare tube so I changed it myself but didn't have a good pump so I asked if I could borrow theirs. That's when Ian invited me in and inflated the tire for me. So it turned out my replacement tube also had a flat and I didn't have any money on me to replace it. I figured I was screwed and was going to have to call my daughter for a ride home when Ian said he'd replace my tube and I could just come by later to pay. That is just incredible! He doesn't know who I am and had no reason to help me other than he was just really nice person. We chatted about bike rides while he repaired my ride. He helped me out and I was on my way in minutes. What wonderful service, I'll definitely be giving them my business even though I live in Orangevale. read more
