Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures because the Big Apple Coaster has a very strict no-loose-items policy. They won't allow you to bring your phone or anything else in your pockets onto the ride. Staff actually check before you board, and if you have anything on you, they'll send you back to put it away. Luckily, there are lockers nearby for around $1, so storing your belongings is quick, easy, and inexpensive. We visited on a Friday night and purposely waited until it was dark so we could enjoy the views of the Las Vegas Strip while riding. We had purchased our tickets online ahead of time, which I highly recommend because it allowed us to skip the ticket line. Once inside New York-New York, the coaster was easy to find, and we only waited about 30 minutes to ride. As a plus-size woman, I was happy to find that I fit comfortably on the ride, which is always something I appreciate knowing before visiting an amusement attraction. It was over 100°F outside the night we rode, so flying through the loops, twists, and huge drops while getting blasted with warm desert air made for a pretty wild experience! I'll admit, I was a little terrified--the drops are much bigger than I expected, and I rode a good portion of it with my eyes closed. The ride itself is fairly short, but it's packed with excitement from start to finish. My teenager absolutely loved it, and even though it scared me a bit, I'm really glad we did it. If you're visiting Las Vegas with kids or teens, I'd definitely recommend adding the Big Apple Coaster to your itinerary. read more

What can you get for $25 in Las Vegas these days...? ...a hearty, calorie-dense breakfast sandwich (like a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit) at Eggslut in the Cosmopolitan... a classic Las Vegas souvenir t-shirt, a deck of commemorative casino playing cards... two pints of Guinness at Nine Fine Irishmen (New York New York) ... a $25 "gourmet" cheeseburger at various resorts and restaurants... ...OR a ride on The Roller Coaster at New York-New York, first launched in 1997 as The Manhattan Express, then named The Big Apple Coaster, and still sort of popular... mostly with Vegas virgins. There was confusion about storing our valuables... lockers, secret codes... You buy a ticket, get in line and then are told you should probably store your valuables in a locker, which you have to find and master the process for renting , opening and storing. [Tuesday midday] Short line was nice... we were with a couple of nervous teenagers there for the first time - their mom and aunt watching and waiting... Once on board, make sure to lock the seat bar down as far as you can onto you legs (more about that in a moment). Our midday experience thrust us into the blinding July summer sun blazing down upon us as we climbed to the top of the first summit - we tried to shield our eyes but it did nothing for the mounting heat that had me sweating by the top of ... THE FIRST DROP... (let your breath out slowing as you go...), then another and then you're thrown into a FULL LOOP where the centrifugal force shoves you into a pile of goo in your seat, followed by a little CORKSCREW-BARREL-ROLL maneuver and by the time you've caught your breath you hit a series of little up and down gut-sloshing, ass-smashing moves. Next thing you know, you're hurled left, then right - or maybe right then left - and up a little hill then into a CYCLONIC FUNNEL in a downward decent where you think you're done but then you hit a couple of parking lot speed bumps at maximum speed (more ass-banging) before you enter a dark tunnel where you think, "Oh God, what's next," but you get a quick glimpse into the casino right before the ride ends. Definitely a value (albeit it a different one) to the $25 cheeseburger, and more memorable than a t-shirt, just don't eat the burger before you board. read more

And here's the thing that ride became more than just a thrill. One of the last trips I ever took with my dad, we rode that coaster together. I didn't know at the time he was sick... didn't know he had cancer. He never told me. But I remember that ride clear as day. I was focused on grabbing one of those little souvenir keychains after, something simple. He had other plans wanted the bigger photo, something we could hold onto. At the time, I didn't think much of it. Now? That picture means everything. So every time I go back to Vegas, I ride it. No questions asked. It's tradition. And for something that looks compact tucked into the Strip, this thing punches way above its weight. It hits speeds around 67 mph, throws you through a full loop and a barrel roll, and pulls enough G-force to make you feel like a fighter pilot for a few seconds. It's one of the few coasters right on a major city strip like this, and it doesn't hold back. By the time you step off, your legs are a little shaky, your stomach's doing a reset, and yeah you're probably ready to eat something. Quick tip: don't ride it at the end of a long night. Either go in fresh or give yourself some buffer after eating. This one's got some bite. I'll be honest it's not about chasing thrills like I used to. I'm not some hardcore coaster guy. But this? Actually quite a fun ride! The bone I have to pick is with the inconsistent instructions from staff members - one tells me at the start of the line that I can bring my phone if I put it in my zipped jacket pocket, only for another to tell me right before I'm about to board that I need to place it in a locker... Huh? To avoid having to step out of an already long line and delay your ride more, I recommend just renting the locker in the first place even if you're told it's not necessary! To Big Apple Coaster's credit, they did allow me to jump back in line where I left rather than go back to the beginning. read more

This roller coaster is great! So much fun, reasonable prices, no line midday on a weekday, and the people working were friendly and helpful! I went with a Las Vegas local so the prices were admittedly lower than usual, but I still thought the general admission price was reasonable too. This is a pretty long roller coaster with lots of twists, turns, a loop, and some big drops. You don't just blink and it's over, so there was time to enjoy it. I also appreciated the fabulous view of the Las Vegas skyline and mountain ranges in the distance. They checked our harnesses twice before the ride began, so it seemed like they were committed to making the ride safe and enjoyable for all. There are convenient lockers to store bags, phones, wallets, keys, etc in and they were a good price ($1). What a fun thing to do while in Vegas! I'd highly recommend it. read more

I'm glad my kids had fun at the arcade but it really is highway robbery. The credits per point payout is a joke. Everything is almost screens. Two of the games were not working and took our credits. Star earned for the workers because they are nice and re credited me but still was a hassle having to waste time in line getting that figured out. The games are fun and my kids enjoyed it but I think they had more fun at a playground or equal amount of fun at Chuck E. Cheese which gives better toys/rewards. I miss the 90s where carnival arcade events were fun and stuffed animals ( can be small) were actually able to be won easily or moderately as opposed to almost never. It takes probably $100 to $200 to spend an hour or so here. Definitely get a package. If you don't you might not even have enough points to get one stuffy. Come on Vegas. This rides looks can be deceiving but it is super cool/scary. My wife got me to go on it knowing I don't like these things and i thought to myself "well the drop doesn't look too bad". Wrong. This was one of the scariest drops ive been on my whole life lol. The ride is fun though and super cool bringing you around the building and outside for a little bit of the strip if you love adrenaline and roller coasters this will be fun for you. They also have an arcade with tons of games to play from, in case someone in the group doesn't want to ride the coaster they can plays games while you wait in the line because it can be pretty long sometimes. They're pretty strict on nothing extra being on you so if you have phones and belongings i would store them before getting in line read more

I've wanted to go on the Big Apple Coaster since my very first trip to Vegas, so I was so happy to have it included in my Go City pass! We arrived right when it opened and got up the boarding platform quickly. There was an issue on a returning coaster and the employees essentially ignored us waiting to ride while they solved it. You've seen this roller coaster running on top of the New York, New York hotel and casino. It does go upside down and has one loop and a corkscrew, but as far as roller coasters go, it is fairly mild and good for beginners. My daughter (12) has been dying to ride this for some time so we finally made the efforts to come! I've lived here my entire life and haven never rode it. For perception we both love thrills and roller coasters. For locals/military it was $18 pp & $10 for a second ride we decided 2 rides it was. We had to put everything in the lockers provided which were $1 & no exceptions if they even seen your phone they made you go put it away. My daughter wanted the front row but the rows were filling up (15 to be exact) so we opted for the first ride in the very last row & it wasn't as good as we thought it was such a rough ride it wasn't enjoyable. The straps you put over yourself don't secure you head enough as you me being jolted at a rate you can t control your own body. If you have family members that are waiting. It sucks. There's no place to sit and you just stand there waiting for your other family members to finish their ride. You grab your admission at the front and head towards the back of the arcade. Get in line and it could be a 10 to 30 minute wait depending on time and day. There are lockers for rent to store your things. Arcade is a rip off as most games are 20 and up credits. We used up 100 credits in 10 minutes. Prize tickets well get you a couple pieces of candy. Took my daughter to ride the rollercoaster. I get motion sickness so wasn't able to join her. When we found the entrance you actually have to back track quite a bit to purchase a ticket. Once you're at the ticket stand there is a sign for a QR code to purchase online. I wish this would have been where the entrance for the rollercoaster was. She was only doing the ride and no games. The downside is as a rider you cannot have anything, phone, hats, etc. if you don't have someone to hold it for you, there are lockers. Now this is only a downside because my daughter was a solo rider, so I was not able to text her and check in. It's very deceiving because where they let the riders in at it didn't seem like there was a wait. My daughter went in and I had to wait outside for her. Apparently the line wraps around where it's not visible from the entrance. I waited about 50min for her to come out! By this time I was really beginning to panic and had to ask staff how long the wait was, etc. Me being worried was all washed away once I saw my daughter with a HUGE smile on her face and ecstatic because it was so much fun! If you're doing games as well it's definitely worth getting a wristband. There was a group of kids who I was standing next to while I was waiting and they went on at least five times before my daughter came out just once. I've never ridden the roller coaster because the ticket price doesn't seem very appealing to me, but we frequent the arcade a lot because of its location on the strip. Pros: - An extremely fun way to kill time if you're not that into gambling but okay with spending some money! They have a really great variety of typical arcade games, including coin pushers, skee-ball, air hockey, basketball, etc.. My personal favorite is the rabid plunger shooting multi-player game on a big screen LOL. - Most games are 25-30 credits, which are pretty reasonable. There's a lot of games where you can get a lot of value or play time from them, and then some games that are definitely scams haha. - Decent prices for the Vegas Strip, 30 dollars gives you 300 credits, which is about 12 games or machines. Very easy to blow quickly but you can also stretch it out if you like. - Decently clean bathrooms with lots of stalls available Cons: - I would strongly recommend you only come for the experience (or to distract your kids), since the tickets-earning potential is not worth the prizes. 1250 tickets can only get you a very small keychain plushie. But my husband and I always get one just to commemorate the memory and Vegas trip. - Temperature can get stuffy and sweaty sometimes - you do have to purchase a card to tap on the arcade machines the first time you come, but my husband and I just make sure we bring our card back every time we come to Vegas. We got out of the queue to try another time since we already claimed our Go City® passes for tickets. We returned the next day in the evening and it was perfect ... the line was very short and we were able to ride the roller coaster. Very clever setting where we stepped onto the platform of a New York Subway station and hopped into one of the train cars (roller coaster), which was designed to look like NYC taxi cabs. This was, after all, the New York New York Hotel & Casino. I love the drops (about 80-ft) but didn't enjoy the loop (I got dizzy)... The ride lasted about 3-mins and went through a series of hills, inversions, vertical loops, and a corkscrew spiral. Lockers are provided for $1 rental for an hour. They require you to store anything loose and "not attached to your body" in the lockers. We finally experienced the roller coaster ride at New York New York after seeing it many, many times on the Strip. Nothing says "vacation curveball" like explaining to disappointed little faces that physics (and Vegas winds) won today. BUT -- shoutout to the staff for saving the vibe. We had a mix-up at the kiosk and accidentally loaded ride credits instead of arcade funds. The staff member fixed it fast, no attitude, just solid energy. Super helpful, and honestly the kind of interaction that makes you want to come back. The arcade was solid -- enough variety to keep us busy, and not totally crusty like some strip arcades can be. Claw machines, racers, and a few throwbacks that hit the nostalgia button just right. We'll definitely be back for a second attempt at the coaster. Once you purchase your ticket, you will walk through the arcade, and in the back is the rollercoaster entrance. No phones are allowed so they do offer complimentary lockers (PIN code to lock) to place all of your belongings prior to getting on the rollercoaster. Please note that majority of the ride is outside so if it's cold you def want to keep your jacket on (lesson learned). My friend and I rode this around 10:25pm on a Sunday evening. There was no line at all. It was nice. This was my second time riding it. I rode it the last I was in Vegas 2 years ago. The weather was perfect! This is definitely not a ride you want to do in the middle of a hot day! I made that mistake the last time lol. I didn't like how there was no working or any hype, that's typically for roller coasters. The ride just started without warning or anything. A couple staff members did clap upon return, which is what they did for all the rides. I'm not sure why there was a lack of hype in the beginning. There is 2-3 areas along the ride with cameras that will take your picture, which is cool. A photographer will take your picture on the ride before it starts as well. Electronics are not allowed on the ride. My bff didn't want to get on, so he held our items while we did the ride. They do offer military discounts. It is on Groupon and the go city pass, if you want to get it for cheaper. We didn't realize it was on the go city pass until the next day, lol. So we paid out of pocket. read more

Lord, when you have time to spare while on a work trip, you will find any reason to do the tourist thing. No matter the cost, time it takes, or the walk you will endure. After doing the High Roller my colleague and I decided to take in the rollercoaster here. We reserved our tickets online prior to our arrival. Now, if you have never been here in this hotel complex, do not worry if you have no idea where you are going or how to get to this spot. We wondered for a very long time, even after stopping and asking for directions, which were vague. After trudging the large staircase we found ourselves in the right place...only to find that there was an escalator that we did not see. We go to get in line and were promptly redirected to go put our belongings in a locker. On top of the heavy price for a singular ride, they want you to purchase the use of a locker to store all your items. That's right, if you are blind without glasses, you are not going to see much here. Also, to note, if you want to endure this ride more than once, you can pay an extra fee to ride it as many times as your body can in a day (more on that later). All pockets empty, nearly blind, squinting, we head back to the line to show our QR code (which I don't even think they cared about at this point). We were ushered into car queues and waited for the cars to approach. When they did, we all shuffled into our seats. Lap bar comes down and the most useless overhead harness buckles you in. Then you are off. And I can echo a review from over a decade ago, recommending riding this rollercoaster once and only once. It is not enjoyable in the least. I had the worst headache because, even with an overhead harness, there is no cushioning whatsoever and your head is just being slung everywhere. You think you got it under control and then your head slams back again and again and again. I honestly thought I was concussed after this singular ride. I did not like it one bit. I mean, I did still giggle the whole time because that is my go to for situations like this. But by the end I was feeling the pain. It effectively felt like I had fallen down a flight of stairs by the time I approached the platform again. Yes, you will get some awesome views of the Strip, if you can focus on that. When you're not attempting to keep yourself from being physically harmed by this. I'm glad I did this, but one and done. I'm kind of glad I didn't have my glasses on for this. Almost every day of our stay we drove the strip. Everytime we passed by NYNY my son begged to ride the roller coaster. We had no idea til the day we made a visit that there was also an arcade inside! The staff around the casino floor were nice enough to help direct us up toward the coaster and arcade ticketing. Signage was a bit small for me to see while standing in line until getting closer honestly. If you have a couple of hours to have some fun they have bundle passes which include ride and game play. To my relief, the one ride per person (with military discount or local residency) was only $14. While in line I kept seeing the bundle price of something like $50... even when I thought it was $50 per person I just said, well when on vacation right? Regular price for non residents and non military was $19. Not much info is posted at the entrance about the roller coaster. There were arrows pointing which direction to head. That is where signs are that nothing is allowed on the ride that isn't attached to you. There are a wall of pay to use lockers that you just have to use if there is no one in your party not participating. $1 for a back pack sized locker which was enough to hold our 3 fanny packs and a drink. I used a credit card but I believe you can also insert cash as well. Unfortunately no pics of us since everything, including the phones were stashed away. At this point you are queued up again to board the actual ride. Since it was October, the waiting area was all done up with Halloween decor. The ride itself is double seater line up. There were only 3 of us in our party so I sat next to my daughter and my son sat alone. Dont know if thats a good or bad thing though. On one hand every ride could possibly be operating with multiple empty seats making the wait times longer unnecessarily. On the other hand if you're an odd party or single rider you're not forced to sit next to a stranger... We never got a good look at the ride from the outside so we all hopped on in mysterious anticipation lol. So when the coaster started climbing higher and higher it was very clear there would be a steep drop and it was already too late. Theres all the twists and turns with a loop and a twirl. My petite daughter was fine until we went upside-down twice and she no longer felt the seat under her! The riders are secured with a lap bar as well as an over the shoulder rubber "seat belt" that latches onto the lap bar. It is an old style roller coaster so it really was a rough ride. My poor baby doll being so tiny was just tossed around and pretty uncomfortable most of the time. I felt it too but I guess I've just expected it with all the other rides we've been on our entire lives... With all that being said, as always rides are def ride at your own risk. I really should have looked into the roller coaster a bit more. But on vacation we just let loose and go with the flow. We had a blast and it was a great memory to add to the data base. My daughter might have gotten a good scare on this one but its really not any worse than any of the other rides we've already been on. Such a fun attraction in Vegas and a must do! $25.00 per person. Roller coaster is not super intense like the roller coasters at Six Flags, but definitely a thrilling fun time with some major dips and turns that will for sure give you that rush. I would recommend pre ordering your tickets ahead of time so this way you don't have to wait in the line, which was pretty long when we arrived. They do not allow your phones on the ride so you will have to put it in one of the lockers they have for $1. Reason is they take pictures and sell them to you so they don't want you messing up their $$..lol! The picture is $28.00. You get a hard copy and you receive an electronic version as well. This coaster is at the New York New York hotel casino. If you want to park, the casino does charge for parking. However, if you are military or a veteran, all you have to do is show your military ID/VA ID/DD 214 at the rewards desk, and you will get a military players card. This card gives you discounts at the property, as well as free parking at any MGM property on the strip. As for the coaster itself, The employees *were* friendly, and it *was* a fun ride. However, we need to talk about the condition of the track. I rode this years ago, And I was very surprised at how rough it was. It was like nobody ever bothered to smooth out the track when building it. Quite a few years later, I'm back in Vegas, and I have a Go City pass. It came with a ride on the coaster, so I figured I'd try it again. They must've improved it over the years, right? Absolutely not! The ride is fun, with all of the drops, twists, loops, and turns that you would expect from a good coaster, but all of that is taken away by how rough the track is!. you feel every jolt, every bump, every hard drop. I believe I tweaked my knee on the ride, because I was limping for a little while after riding it. My advice? Stay away. Stopped by here when we were in Vegas a couple of weeks ago. We wanted to ride the coaster but it was a little expensive for one ride. I mean it is Vegas and it does seem really cool, so understandable! But we decided to spend that money at the arcade instead to do something that would last a little longer haha! I actually really liked the arcade and the atmosphere! I also love that we only played a couple of games but we were actually able to get a lot of prizes with our tickets. Some arcades you get like one piece of gum after an hour of playing, but we probably only played for 30 minutes and we ended up getting a lot of candy and some fans. I'm actually obsessed with the fan! It's this tiny pocket accordion fan that came in such handy on our bikes because I was sweating! So glad to have had it honestly and it was super compact and travel sized. I hate random things that will just get thrown out so I was glad to see something practical. And also the candy was good of course, can't complain that we had some snacks for our road trip the next morning :) read more

The Big Apple Coaster at the NYNY Hotel is a fun roller coaster. The ride lasts about 3-4 minutes. Price is $25 for one ride and if you want to go again it's $10. During my visit in Feb., the NYNY Hotel was offering 2 for 1 rides for hotel guests. Note that you cannot take any loose items (phones, cameras,...) onto the ride with you. They have lockers onsite for $1. Fun Fact: It wouldn't be Vegas if you couldn't get married on the coaster. It was my sister's first time in Vegas, so of course it only made sense to make sure she experienced riding a roller coaster attached to a hotel. The ride typically costs $19 during the day until 6pm, after it's $23. If you have a military ID it's $14. This was my second time riding this roller coaster ever. I was in my mid 20's when I first rode it. I honestly do not remember so many drops and loops. The ride is super rough! I guess in my older age, it feels like a lot of things get rattled and tossed around. Haha I felt like my insides and bones were being all jumbled up. Was it thrilling? Yes. Did it hurt? To me, yes. My poor body can only handle one ride. The youthful will enjoy it, the strong can tolerate it ;-) I wouldn't say it's a must do. But if you don't have anything else going on, or feel the need for speed on a roller coaster, go for it! Drop that $14-$23. No phones, cameras, go pros, sunglasses, bags etc are allowed on the ride, so you will have to leave it with a non rider or utilize the lockers for a $1 near where your tickets are checked. read more
