I rented an Avocado E-bike from the Bike Shack and had a great experience. Molly was super friendly and helpful showing how to operate the bike. In addition to a helmet and bike lock, they provided the charger because I rented the bike for two full days. I charged it once, but I probably didn't even need to do that. One thing to note about the Avocado E-bike: there is no adjustment for the amount of power assist that it provides when you pedal. If it's on, then it starts providing power as soon as you pedal. And you always have to pedal, so it doesn't just ride on power like a moped. read more

What a great experience we had today thanks to this wonderful bike shop. Four of us rented Giant Talone Mountain Ebikes and the performance exceeded our expectations. The bike technician made all the necessary adjustments before we set out for a 20 mile bike excursion. This wasn't my first choice for bike rentals as it was slightly further from the ferry than some of the other shops. The teenager who answered the phone wasn't the most social either, but when I got over there he was better to speak to in person. When all the other bike shops were sold out of e-bikes, they still had some available. They also charged $10+ LESS than the other ones I talked to, so that made me happy. They provided me with a lock, offered a helmet, and even attached a basket to the back for my backpack. I rented for four hours and was able to leisurely ride and stop at all the sights around Provincetown and in the Cape Cod National Seashore while using the beautiful bike trail. I would not recommend a regular bike, as there are many hills and I could see it getting difficult without the pedal assist. I was even suffering from a horrible lower back pain prior to riding and the e-bike made my ride extremely comfortable. read more

We had a great experience at the Bike Shack! We got there early for a little day trip in town and decided to rent a pet trailer. We were pleasantly surprised to see that they provided free parking for the length of our rental which made logistics easy to figure out for the rest of the day! Their free parking is first come first serve, but there are plenty of nearby options in town as well. I can't recall the threshold, but below $50 or so they only accepted cash so have some on hand if you're only there to really accessorize as we were. We brought two bikes from home, hoping to rent the pet trailer to attach. It turned out that it wouldn't attach to our type of bikes and we had to rent one. Luckily it wasn't a big deal since their rates were pretty affordable for the length of time. Would definitely come back!! read more

Great bike rental! Their rates are super affordable and low compared to other places so it would be silly to go anywhere else besides The Bike Shack! For $20 you are able to ride for 4-9 hours. That's a steal! Plan to be out there for less then 4 hours, it's even cheaper. The gentleman who worked at the front and gave us the two mountain bikes was very friendly as well. Friendly service, sturdy bikes (they even had a tag a long for my 6 yr old so he could ride w my husband), and reasonable price. What more can you ask for. The trails are well kept and other riders were kind. esp w my wobbly child unable to help his father keep the bike riding straight. Service was great, bikes were great. We got the Ebikes with 5 gears, and rode thru the dunes on the cape. Excellent ride! Also went into town for lunch. The Aqua Bar was a great place to eat, drink and look out over the water. Rated 5 stars, although facility is under construction/remodel so there was no bathroom to use on site, and parking was difficult. But the bikes, seats, and everything else were excellent. these guys are GREAT. I uses an electric assisted bike. it assists while pedaling and really helped so that I could go on a more difficult ride to Herring Cove and see the amazing views I wouldn't otherwise have seen. the bike really made it about the place and the scenery. we will definitely rent from Bike Shack again and again. The cost is very reasonable. More so than other places. the owner is VERY flexible and customer oriented. She just wants to make the time here as enjoyable and stress free as possible. read more

We own an 1850's Farmhouse in Ptown which we rent out for much of high season.. We have two older bikes that we make available for our tenants. What has kept them in good working order is at the start of each season bringing them into the Bike Shack ( conveniently located across the street from the Stop and Shop, Ptown's only food market with its large free parking lot- and a little ways down the street from the Irie Cafe - best home cooked Jamaican food in Ptown ). Liz , the bike-experienced owner/manager , offers a seasonal tune-up for $65 and a diagnostic of any additional issues she might find. For example, her recent identification of the need for a new chain on one of the bikes likely has saved us getting a frantic mid-summer call from some tenant stranded out in the Provincelands with a broken chain. read more

Was told by staff at the Colony Inn where I'm staying that the Bike Shack was the place to go for Bike Rental. Phoned the day before and spoke to Liz the owner. She gave great directions on how to find the store and what to expect. The check in process for the bikes was super simple, the service was lovely and the whole process was made so simple. We had an amazing time riding our bikes around the dunes. Using the e-bikes made it so easy especially since I haven't been on a bike in about 20 years. Free parking at the store was perfect considering parking can be a bit tricky in the area and the price was spot on for the bike rental although I did forget to ask for the referral discount because of where we were staying but I'm satisfied that I got my moneys worth so no problem. We wanted to rent bikes and ride to Race Point Beach, then to Herring Cove Beach and then back to town, so we checked Yelp and found four options - Bike Shack, Ptown Bikes, Gale Force Bikes and Arnold's. We chose Bike Shack given the outstanding Yelp reviews and plus, our hotel gave us coupons for 10% off rentals there. Also, the other three bike shops all closed at 6pm, whereas Bike Shack stayed open until 8pm...a HUGE difference when it's Summertime and you're biking, going to the beach and want to maximize your daylight hours...Huge. That was really one of the deciding factors, so good call on Steve's part (the owner) to stay open later! Competition at its best and knowing your customer. When we arrived at the shop to rent our bikes, Steve was overwhelming helpful, friendly, honest and generally a good person. You can tell that he genuinely loves his job and helping people. Steve used to be a bike messenger in NYC, so we had a lot to chat about as he was familiar with my neighborhood, work, etc. Plus, he gave us a ton of information about Provincetown - where to bike, safety tips, insider tips, real estate tips, places to see, when to visit, when not to visit, the various festivals and general culture of this wonderful town. He really was a great source of information, and inspiration for that matter, as this is second "retirement" career. If only more people loved their job and career like Steve did, we'd have outstanding customer service everywhere. As far as the bikes, they were excellent and basically brand new, with everything working properly and smoothly. He provided us with locks free of charge and a basket for our picnic stuff for the beach for only a few extra dollars. We had a great time biking and beaching in P-Town and the bike trails was THE Highlight of our trip - a Definite Must Do when in Provincetown. So, when you're in Provincetown, a) you Must Do the bike trails to the beach, and b) you Must get your rentals from Steve at Bike Shack. Even though his shop is a little out of the way, it's only like a 5-10min walk from downtown, and I promise that you'll be happy that you did. I can't imagine there being a better place to rent bikes in Provincetown. The bikes that were rented to us were brand new, higher-end bikes that were in excellent condition and had every conceivable accessory we would need. I was shocked to notice that the prices were a bit cheaper than the places on commercial as well. The hours were convenient, especially considering the logistical challenges for renting and returning bikes and still having to catch a flight/ferry Liz was also extremely knowledgeable and got us fit to the perfect frames (and even made some excellent recommendations for things to do and eat in town) I would unquestionably recommend this shop to anyone who is planning on renting a bike in Provincetown. read more

I never write reviews, but the experience at The Bike Shack was so outstanding that I needed to comment. I dropped off two bikes purchased online for assembly and tuning. When I came to pick them up, I accidentally locked myself out of my car containing my wallet and phone. One of the women from the shop rescued me and was able to help me get back into my car. Most people don't take the time or effort to help, but the team here was outstanding. And the bike service was great as well. Truly good people. I was sent to the Bike Shack by a friend of mine who set up the AirBnB that I stayed in for the weekend that the National Gay Pilots Association were in town.The Airbnb wasn't exactly close to commercial Street and many of the associations events, so I used the bike to get back-and-forth and around town. Turned normally 15 minute walks into five minute bike ride. The bike shack provided bikes that are mechanically sound and reliable. The first bike I got the chain would skip very very very irregularly, so I took it back and they replaced it immediately. The next worked flawlessly. The seats are comfortable, they come with baskets, locks, and they even give you a helmet. Whether you are looking for a bike to get around town for the entire weekend or one for the day that you want to take out to race point Beach, the bike shack has a bike for you. I highly recommend them. I will be back next year. read more

The owner has updated her comments below several times since I originally posted this review..from snarky review to cautiously condescending. Beware to those leaving anything less than 5 star reviews on this place.... We rented two 21- speed bikes for 48 hours costing us about $95 which included helmets, bike lock, and basket. The bikes operated well and we're glad we rented these instead of beach cruisers which would have been near impossible to navigate the steep hills of the biking trails. My gripe was the price- the advertised $15/day bike rental was a bit deceiving. I'm not sure which bikes were rented at this price but if you're planning to bike along the trails and on the hilly streets of downtown, a $15 bike would not get you very far. Overall, we were pleased with our rentals and would return again- unless I could be lured by better rates elsewhere. read more

I reserved bikes more than a month in advance. When we arrived, the lady at the counter told me how busy she was and she'd get to us later. After a long wait, she got to us and told us they didn't have the bikes we'd reserved. But they'd "upgrade" us with a better bike. However, the "upgrade" turned out to be a downgrade. When we went riding that day, the bike was dangerously small, and it was a women's bike. The next day, we tried to return it for the actual bike we'd reserved. The woman at the counter refused. I asked for a discount. The woman at the counter refused and told us about how busy she was. I pointed out that the type of bike we'd reserved was sitting right there and they could just give it to us. The woman at the counter refused to let us use that bike, saying it was already reserved, and that people were not turning in their bikes on time. I pointed out that we'd made our reservation more than a month ago and that it seemed unfair to save that bike for someone else who had likely reserved a bike after we had. The woman at the counter still refused, but she agreed to let me have a woman's bike that was at least the proper size and a little less dangerous to ride. They're lots of places to rent bikes from in P-town, and many are more convenient and include customer service. I suggest going somewhere else. read more

I looked all over for a new bike in September 2020, but due to covid I couldn't find anything. Luckily I found a used bike here. It was already in pretty good shape, but after riding it every day in the fall/winter/spring I took it in for a tune up. The bike rides like new now. Liz is awesome and extremely knowledgeable. She looked at the bike right when I took it in and recommended a few things it could use for a smoother ride. I will definitely be back for periodic tune ups in the future. Be aware that the owner will hold you strictly liable for anything that happens to the bike while it is in your possession even if its not your fault. I had a bike that was vandalized (when someone hit it with a car and did not stop) and had to pay for the replacement parts. Liz would like to blame me, her customer, instead of the person who caused the damage. The bike was safely secured to the side of a 30 ft wide driveway with enough room for two large trucks to pass each other with room to spare. The business is in a position to insure against acts of vandalism and should do so..not charge its customers for the acts of others. read more

Tip: Stay away from the Beach Cruiser. This bike needs to be decommissioned - it's dangerous - difficult to steer and control! Came here to save a few dollars, but will spend a few dollars more for a better bike next time.
