Biltmore doesn't have the best food or wine selection in Charlottesville but the outdoor patio can be nice sometimes. Definitely more of a college bar that the younger kids go to. Sometimes some fun bands will play. The bar service at the tiki bar is alright but crowded. read more

Yeeeaaah..... Don't come here when UVA has a big event and they (seem) understaffed. Unless, you're just here to get drunk. Was here the Saturday UVA had the celebration event for the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship win. From beginning to end, the experience at the Biltmore that day was ...poor (to put it generously). There seemed only two people total working that day, as there was no server to take my friend and I to a table (had to grab one of the two waiters). I wouldn't have been surprised if they were doing double duty in the kitchen as well, because our server was in such a rush that more often than not, our food and drinks haphazardly fell/spilled out of their containers. Speaking of food, all might have been forgiven, if at least the food was alright. However, it had the double sin of not only coming late (the appetizer and meal were served at the same time), but cold. I'm guessing all the food was held back until the last item was ready as the cheese on the nachos had cooled solid, while another appetizer was the only thing still warm. Overall we felt sorry for our server as the person seemed harried, so I won't take this personally. But still, I have to give other fair warning to avoid this place when you see the warning signs. read more

I came down to Charlottesville with a handful of friends for a weekend and we ended up coming here both Friday and Saturday nights! I definitely got the vibe that this was a huge college bar (don't mean that in a negative way). The bartenders were hit or miss, but the music was good and the outdoor space had tons of seating. This rating would be a lot higher were it not for Saturday's nights craziness. It might've been because UVA just made it to the national championship game, but there were at least four fights that broke out. At one point, a huge crowd of people ducked down and said that someone had pulled out a gun. We weren't sure if they were serious, but five minutes later police were everywhere and they shut down the entire bar about 30 minutes early. My UVA friends insisted that this was an unusual so I'm tempted to believe this was just post-basketball game madness. read more

Unfortunately my colleagues and I found this spot while looking for a different place for lunch. We felt that it had a good vibe but definitely the college bar feel which isn't always bad. We were the only customers during lunch today and service was a little slow. All three of us ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries and the side of coleslaw. We also got 2 16oz glasses of draft beer. The beer had a soapy taste to it because the glasses were not washed/rinsed properly. All three sets of silverware had crusty food and looked as though they had not been washed. The fries were overcooked and the sandwich tasted like it had been heated up in the microwave after sitting out all day. Pretty much a law school institution. If you're a wayward undergrad who's suddenly found himself cut off from the pack and stumbling down dark Elliewood Avenue, follow the thwack-thwack sounds of a robust game of cornhole. As soon as you walk up, there's a set of stairs leading to two levels of bar space on your left, and on your right is this initially glorious, then-gets-old-pretty-quick outdoor area with its own bar. So I've gotten drunk here. I've cried here at an end of the year post-finals bash. I've tried to dance here. I've witnessed many a hormonal make-out full-use-of-tongue session here. I've made some good friends here. But I have never eaten here, in part because I've seen the multitude of horrors taking place near the outdoors bar area, though great things have been said about Biltmore's thumbs & toes bucket. Came here for a firm reception. The food spread was so much better than Sky Bar's display of tiny crab cakes and mini quesidillas (I think I ate five of those before I started getting weird looks). This place had nachos, seasoned fries, chicken tenders, Caesar salad, and a crudite plate. Much, much better. Maybe I'll voluntarily order something off the menu next time. read more

We came on a Thursday afternoon and got the 2 for $12 special which is 2 entrees for $12! Seriously cannot beat the value for money. It's not the nicest establishment in the world but super casual feel and very cheap. They didn't even give us an orange slice with our blue moon. However, my friend got the pizza Crustys, which she really likes and a super standard Caesar salad. I got the hot wings, which weren't bone in but the sauce was actually great and the wings were perfectly crisp. I also had some curly fries, which let's be frank, are hard to get wrong. The Biltmore is going through some drastic changes, in management, in care taking, in bartending. People aren't constant in there as they are rebuilding their team and I will reupdate this as soon as the dust has settled but here is where all the information lies, if you want to see what's going on, either be in the know or check their facebook page to make sure you aren't walking in in the middle of an unplanned survivor hour with none of the shifted bartenders and instead it's staffed with bartenders invited from other bars who ignore you so hard that after a 30 minute rotation at the beach bar you receive no drinks or service Josh. A smarter way of dealing with that might have been suggesting to your staff that the first idk 10 people to get there get really amazing tips because of an emergency survivor hour due to student snow days. :( read more

I've been coming to this place for YEARS. Everyone who works here is just simply the best. Super fun, ready to entertain you all night long. Tonight I came in with my roommate for dinner and our server, alex, was splendid. Got us refills before we even asked, made great suggestions on food, and even boxed up our food for us. The Biltmore is a lot of fun. My friends and I visited for a late dinner and drinks and we had a great time. The Biltmore has a phenomenal patio. I would venture to say it is probably the best patio in Charlottesville. We grabbed a large picnic table and settled in for a lovely evening. First of all, they have great drink specials. They have a lot of really great nightly deals. They were supposed to have $5 pitchers of Sangria according to their menu but that special is no more, which was pretty disappointing. However, the other deals they had totally made up for it. The food was super delicious! I tried the fish tacos and they were so tasty. My friends all enjoyed their food as well. The prices were very reasonable. The service was fantastic. After just experiencing terrible service at Mellow Mushroom, it was such a nice feeling to have the Biltmore staff be attentive to our needs and ensure that we had a pleasant dining experience. Went here every Thursday for Power Hour over the summer. Cheap $2 doubles was great. The staff worked fairly quickly to get them out. Would often be with a group of 10-15 people and we would arrive about a half hour prior to PH to get enough seats. Outdoor seating was minimal and often crowded during this time. The waitstaff kinda runs and hides during this hour, so if you're hoping to get some food I would come earlier or stay later. I only went inside once to use the restroom and that place was s-l-o-p-p-y. The men's room was not busy, so much so that women would often go in there to use the restroom (my experience, which was uncomfortable just due to the obnoxious behavior of the drunk women). Other friends would report frequent drug use in the bathrooms. Everything about this place feels dirty. read more

The service is just really poor and has consistently been so. It's not so much that the staff is rude, but poorly trained and incompetent. Every time I've been here the service has been really, really slow. Our waiter was nice, but he really had no idea what he was doing. I've been here multiple times and it has always been spot on! :D This place is wonderful when it comes to food. Today I got the BBQ sandwich with curly fries. Pretty good! Only 4/5 stars though because the place was horribly busy and it took 45 minutes for me to get food. I was on my lunch break and had to scarf down everything in 10 minutes in order to make it back to work on time. That was not a fun experience. This is a pretty divey bar. It caters to the young college crowd in the area and the highlight of the offerings at the Biltmore is "survivor hour". Once a week on Thursday the bar offers $1 rail mixed drinks from 8pm-9pm. If you are willing to fight your way through thirsty college students to shove up to the bar and yell your order at the bar staff, it is certainly the cheapest way to get drunk on the corner. As you can probably tell, I do not think this spot has much to offer in the way of anything substantial. There are a few specials for happy hour throughout the week if you want an average, quiet spot. However, in terms of bars both in Charlottesville or even on The Corner, this is one of the least spectacular. read more

One of my friends drunkenly said "I am good at what I am good at." While this may not be the most intelligent thing one of my friends (or my parrot) has ever said, it kind of made sense to me for a place like this. The corner has a lot of restaurants/bars that, in my opinion, are just OK at what they are known for. A few examples, Boylan's burgers are sub-par, Trinity's dance floor is pretty disgusting, Three's cocktail's are overpriced for their quality/location etc. Biltmore is good at two things and they are really good at them. 1. Being an outdoor bar. Biltmore is now the only restaurant with an outdoor bar (RIP Backyard) and has always had the best outdoor space on the corner. On a beautiful Virginia night this is where you want to be. It has an amazing amount of tables, standing room, and corn hole. 2. It is a "Specials" bar. Biltmore has an array of amazing specials. Whether it is $6 for any sandwich or salad on the menu or $3 pitchers, every night has terrific food and drink specials. The real difference I have noticed between here and other restaurants is how fast the bartenders are. They don't care if you are paying $1 for a drink or $10 they going to make your drinks extremely quickly. So if you are looking for a classic college bar especially on a clear night, this is where you want to be on the corner. read more

I'm not a big Biltmore fan, but it's an OK, very UVa-ish (undergrads galore!) place to grab a drink. They have a pretty extensive, Chili's-like menu, and while it's not great, it's palatable (well... I'd stick with burgers and avoid the shrimp). They're also pretty accommodating for larger groups, and have a big outdoor patio with a canopy that's perfect in the warmer months. Went here to end our Rare Books School class. We were seated upstairs, which has long tables - decent enough for a large group. The Biltmore Grill suffers from a bit of an identity crisis--it can't seem to decide whether it wants to be a dive bar with cheap specials or a bona fide restaurant. So Biltmore tries to do both, and the result is a resounding "meh." The food is unpredictable. Sometimes it hits the spot, other times it falls flat on its face with soggy burgers, burnt chips, and the like. The daily specials are usually worth a try if you are near the Corner. Stick to the deals if you eat at the Biltmore. The waitstaff is consistently bad, even at odd times. There have been instances where my group has been one of the few in the restaurant, and, inexplicably, we didn't see our waitress for over 15 minutes. Don't expect many refills. But the Biltmore does have a great special on Thursday nights (at least while I was at UVA): Survivor Hour. During Survivor Hour, drinks are $1 and pitchers of beer are $2. Obviously, these deals are pretty enticing, and this is when Biltmore is absolutely packed. But everyone always has a good time. I stopped by The Biltmore to warm-up before the U2 concert on a cool Thursday afternoon. The weather was perfect for sitting out on their deck. We had gotten their early, so we had prime real estate. The specials menu for Thursdays is $5 salads and $5 appetizers. Can't beat that! We ordered the Thumbs and Toes (for those grossed out and unaware it's pretty much boneless chicken wings) sassy & sweet style. The sauce coated the battered fried chicken just right. It also had a slight kicked to it that went just right with the ranch dressing served on the side. We almost ordered another, but we felt guilty about having the deep fried cookie dough for dessert. Yes, you read correctly. I said, deep fried cookie dough. The dough was served with vanilla bean ice cream, whipped cream, and a raspberry sauce drizzled to perfection. I know so much fat, right? Well don't you worry, I had some sort of salad in the middle of all that madness. And well, a salad is a salad is a salad. Our waitress was great, when she actually came around. When we arrived their must have been 10 people there tops. It took her nearly 15 minutes just to bring our beers out. And when a crowd finally started to form we waited forever for our food and drinks. But of course when we asked for the check she was at our table with the bill in 5 minutes. I enjoyed The Biltmore Grill, but unfortunately was not impressed. I got the Biltmore Burger, which had a fluffy, succulent bun, but the spicing of the meat was lacking. I got the coleslaw as my side and it was simply too salty to eat. The Biltmore's most redeeming quality was it's fried pickle chips appetizer. They were full of flavor and very thin. I wouldn't recommend spending a nice dinner here, as there are much better options in Charlottesville. If you find yourself with nowhere else to go, however, The Biltmore Grill should give you a nice experience, but don't expect what you might've gotten elsewhere. read more

She gave us suggestions on what drinks and food to order based on popularity and her preference. I ended up getting the spicy fiesta wrap with sidewinder fries. Definitely something to try here. I was out on the corner for dinner with my family and I decided that I wanted to take a shot with my son who had just been accepted to grad school. When we went to the bar to order our shots, it seemed as though one of their employees had gotten into the "powdered donuts" and was sporting an impressive amount of white powder on their nose. This establishment is clearly run either by children or not being run at all as even the service was horrendous and the food tasted like it had been left out for a week before it was cooked. I've been here twice before, but the 1st time was with a large group so we got platters of food & I didn't actually order anything from the menu, so I thought I'd wait to try the food before I write a review. The one thing I LOVE about this place is the "wings"--or thumbs & toes as they call it. Really good for sharing & it's guaranteed to be gone within seconds. For 5 people, we got a 1-lb order, but probably could've eaten more! Two people in our group got fish & chips--apparently the mac & cheese and broccoli were good side choices. The general consensus was that the sweet potato fries were not as good as ones at Boylan, bummer. Another friend and I ordered burgers & they pretty much just tasted the same as ones from West Range Cafe at UVa, another bummer. BUT, the meal ended with a bang--we decided to get the chocolate chip cookie pie with ice cream. Needless to say, we demolished it within minutes. It was perfectly warm and half-baked (but could've used a larger scoop of ice cream). DEFINITELY GET IT. In conclusion, I think the Biltmore is a great place to get drinks, chill & eat wings, but if you're looking for a satisfying meal that will knock your socks off, this really isn't the place for it. read more

Incredibly disappointed with new Biltmore. The medical center crowd has always loved Biltmore, but with their changes, I think they will lose the entire business from the hospital and medical school. First, incredibly unfriendly waitress who was completely unhelpful, did not refill drinks, bring condiments (or even come by after bringing food). Thumbs and toes now tastes as if it was emptied from a bag of frozen chicken into a fryolater. Horrible. Chicken sandwich inedible. Biltmore used to have great fries, now same frozen crap you get everywhere. All changes have been for the worse, now one of the bottom half of Corner restaurants. Good casual lunch. Typical college campus bar and grill. Sits in a historic boarding house for girls back in the days of the all male UVA. A classic college bar with reasonable beer prices and plenty of outdoor seating. If you're going to go out in downtown Charlottesville, you may as well stop by Biltmore, if not just to see the bros out in all their collared-shirt-boat-shoe glory. But seriously a moment - I was there early (10PM) after getting suckered into a beer pong tournament (too old to care so we lost mercifully quickly), and it was easily 85% male. Ladies you will have your pick - guys, maybe you should try Trinity? Light bro-humor aside, I have to admit this was a neat old college bar, with two floors and generous outdoor seating that must be packed late night when the weather is nice. This is really your classic college bar - a little run down, lots of cheap beer specials (for example, $3 for a tall can on Budlight), and a N64 set up upstairs with Mario Kart. If I was a couple years younger I'd really be digging this place. Now, I'm just too aware of the undergrads and the sticky surfaces. This place is probably four to five stars if you're between the ages of 21-25. Any older and you'll probably want to go somewhere else. read more

Ok I admit I am getting old and the college bar thing I believe I have finally outgrown. Come her for cheap beer, big crowds on weekend, and lots of activities (outside bar with corn hole etc). If your in college your going to love it (but still think it's a bit dirty so drink enough to notice less). If your not looking for the college scene stay clear. I have it 4 stars rating it as the college bar it is and what I would rate it in my 20s. If I were rating it for myself today I would probably give it a 2 (but I'm no longer their demographic so that would be an unfair rating). read more
