I went to the Biltmore on an off-night during the summer, so I didn't get to see it packed to the gills, but the people I was with assured me that the place really gets poppin' during the school year. I could definitely see what they're talking about-- the Biltmore is a typical college dive bar with a giant outdoor patio/cornhole area that tries to look like a beach bar. Can be a hit-or-miss especially with the Shirley Temples (sometimes it tastes like pink sugar water or overly strong with vodka). I usually go with the pineapple/vodka or a screwdriver. The Biltmore has an annex, with it's own bar, that is open air in the wamer months. Due to it's strategic location across the parking lot from my bedroom window, I was often serenaded by drunken renditions of "Friends in Low Places" on karyoke nights. (I plead the fifth regarding whether or not I've jumped through the window to move between the bar and the parking lot.) The bar crowd tended to be very Greek, but I usually survived by focusing on enjoying Thumbs'n'Toes, the signature appetizer. Okay, just not my scene. read more

I stopped in here on my trip to UVA late on a Friday night I believe. The menu covers the typical pub grub and beer selection. The speed of service was pretty bad and the waitress was a real newbie, but she tried hard. The food was fine and the salads were actually of good quality. An unusual item on the menu was the Bison burger which isn't a very widespread option in my experience, although I am from New England. The bathrooms were dirty and the place gave a feeling of needing a good cleaning, so that made me cringe at the thought of the kitchen, but I'm sure undergrads are unphased. In summary, a place to hang out outside in warm weather, have a beer, eat fries and have fun if you're a 20-something. Walking in you can simply feel this is a place where UVA students are having a good time, year after year, until the early hours of the morning. Classiness? None. Been here before and just never got a chance to review it while at UVA. First time we had wings and crusties, one of their 5$ deals. Wings were decent, nothing out of the ordinary, and crusties were pizza rolls (like cinnabuns)! Which is unique because I don't think anyone else serves that on the corner. Then I turned 21 and frequently frequented Survivor Hour. Great drink specials, I think it was 1$ rails now 2$ (although sometimes they mix it up I swear). Lots of great memories and events held here, it'd always be our go-to Thursday nights and then we'd hop over to Crozet after. Went back for the alumni brunch and they served up some pretty delicious food! It was a buffet style with scrambled eggs, quiche, bacon, sausage, grits, biscuits, fruit, shrimp cocktail, bread, etc. Had all the works. Food was delicious, and on a normal Sunday you can get 10$ AYCE brunch! Definitely a steal in my opinion. And I always hated mimosas with champagne, but they make 5$ Bold Rock mimosas with the IPA and MAN OH MAN were they good. I swear if I ever make mimosas it's gonna only be with Bold Rock. read more

Friday lunch, walked up to the restaurant looking to sit outside, no one around for a few minutes. Finally seated, but all the outside tables were covered with beer stains from the previous evening. Sticky and crusty. When we were served lunch, the accompanying condiment tray had a food crusted ketchup bottle - health code issue? Then during lunch, they decided to power wash the patio from last night. Nothing like eating a meal outside listening to a gas powered power washer spraying debris everywhere. Walked away unable to hear for half an hour. I honestly think they try to discourage lunch patrons - they are doing an excellent job if that's their goal. Food: mediocre. There's a reason we come back (after graduating) to Bilt time and time again-- it never disappoints. The sprawling layout of Bilt is awesome- 2 indoor bars (double level), plenty of outdoor patio seating, complete with "The Beach," a sandy area with picnic tables, cornhole and its own bar. Bilt has great service, great food and drink specials, and a great atmosphere, particularly for a college bar. It's not the fanciest or trendiest bar on the Corner, but it's definitely the most solid. The food is yummy (we can't go there without ordering the Thumbs and Toes and/or Crusties), and the drinks are well made and quick. We were in town this weekend, so of course came by our favorite watering hole from college and made fast friends with Daniel, the English bartender. He is awesome, with a great personality and made delicious and unique shooters for our group. He made the experience that much more enjoyable. Highly recommend!!! read more

I lust the Biltmore! Three of my ex girlfriends I have met at this bar and because of the Bilt each time we hit it off amazingly the first night we met, thanks to the amazing "aura" that is Biltmore! Also any of the bearded bartenders (the English one and the one that likes to go to raves) are awesome and will pour some strong drinks. The food at the Biltmore is alright, and college students love to throw down there. However, the service is absolutely terrible. Granted, I've only ever been to the Biltmore with medium-sized groups of friends, but the food and the check take forever to arrive. The first time I went there it took a solid 45 minutes + to get the food we ordered. At least the restaurant was kind enough to give us a free dessert (though this only happened the first time). The second and third times the service was predictably (and disappointingly) the same. True, the Biltmore has pretty good salads and wings, but they're only ever worth it if it's not crowded and you can get a special. There are much better values to get on the Corner. read more

Went here today, food was alright, drinks were small and not even shaked, they use two plastic cups and just pour from one cup to another, bar tenders look like they were sampling the product a little too much and they got our order wrong on purpose thinking we were too tipsy to notice the upcharge for an extra shot. The wrap was decently sized but messy as f... the biltburger had an okay taste but felt like you were biting into a sponge while it pissed oils everywhere. We were not happy with the product, the attempt to upcharge us and the mean looking, borderline shi-faced staff. When we got up to leave one of the bar tenders said "That classy guy not gonna tip?" While trying to invoke a fight like a roid raged chimp. Don't go here, Charlottesville has much better places to offer you. As far as the legal matters go, bar tenders outside do not card. We stop at the Biltmore almost every spring break, as part of our annual college trip chaperoning high school juniors to look at colleges. The Biltmore has become a tradition for us during our visit to U.Va. The management goes out of their way to accommodate our large group, taking advance orders by phone.
