An experience that was supposed to be memorable, ruined by an employee who was more concerned with upselling a used tux than helping my son find something for his first prom. The lady that was there was kind and welcoming. Unfortunately we were helped by an older man who had locks and glasses. Never did extend his name. (Edit looking at other reviews his name may be Dew or Drew) When we first got there it was super busy. This is understandable considering the size of the store and only two employees on the floor. My family and I patiently waited for 15 minutes to let the man know why we were they, in which he says we are late prom people and we should have gotten a look together weeks in advance and that the rental requires 30 days in advance and they would not be able to receive it. We were told we would have to find something in the store , he points to a rack against the wall. I was under the impression that these were rental tux's. He never took time to explain any of it. After being there for another 45 minutes of waiting to get help because he kept saying he would be with us but then taking people who came in after us, we finally got to the point where he talked to me and told my son to try on the tux we found. It was perfect. Looking at it, it didn't need anything done. Mind you I'm thinking this is a rental because there is not a price on it, the size tags are ripped off and you can visually look and see it's been worn, not to mention the bow tie in the pocket. When my son comes out of the dressing room, he ignores my kid and has small talk with a lady who came in with her kid. When he decides he is finished with the conversation, he looks at my son, and says ohhh you found something. It's $450. I said this is not a new suit and where do you see $450 because there are no tags on this and the size patch was cut out, this tux is worn. I said I thought this was a rental? He then says well the rentals are basic, I can go get you a catalog and walks off again. I am highly upset and I wanted his first experience to be special. It was not. Trying to support a black owned business and got treated like a peasant in the process. The funny thing is, if he knew who I was and what I did for a living, I guarantee he would not have done all of that. Treat people right! You never know who could be a blessing to you. I really do hope the owner reaches out to me. I would love to have a conversation. I have attached pics of the "basic tux" we wanted and the timeframe on the website that we would have indeed gotten the tux on time. However, if you plan to rent a tuxedo, be prepared to pay around $250, plus a $160 deposit, with a requirement to return the rental the very next day. For that $250, you receive only a jacket and slacks--no shirt, shoes, tie, vest, or pocket square which makes the value questionable. At that price point, I strongly recommend investing in your own tuxedo or renting elsewhere. Many other places offer complete tuxedo packages (including all accessories) for under $200, with a more reasonable 2-3 day return window and a stronger commitment to valuing your time and money. #SadButTrue

I've been a devoted consignment-store shopper from Dallas to Boston to SoCal. While I found several great shops in Alexandria that day, none checked all the boxes quite like Vida Style did. First off, it has something for every budget and size. There's a $10 rack AND couture items that can cost $400-$1k+. My regular shopping budget is closer to $100, and I've never left here empty handed. The first time I visited, I was on the hunt for a muumuu for a theme party by the same name and had no problem finding the perfect item below my price point. Today, I was on the hunt for "holiday cocktail" wear and found not only a festive, sparkly A-line skirt but also a beautiful DKNY cocktail dress just my size--and walked out having spent LESS than $115 total! The hardest part will be deciding which to wear to this weekend's party. What else sets Vida Style apart is that, unlike other neighborhood shops, there's PLENTY of inventory without sensory overload. Having worked in retail, I like seeing racks that are organized (size and color!) AND easy to peruse in a reasonable amount of time (I mean, if you have a street meter running, you don't want to be in there all day, right?). Other nearby shops might have lovely items, but they're SO crammed on the rack that I just give up porque no vale la pena. Then there's the Vida Style staff. As others have pointed out, they're AMAZING. They treat you like a human being and don't judge if you're just buying a $10 skirt for your cousin's wedding (guilty). They treat you like family and if they give you a compliment, it's genuine. Also, if you can't get there for whatever reason, they have a serious e-commerce presence. They're super active on Instagram, where they showcase new arrivals and rare finds, which is great for folks who love fashion but might not live close enough to just pop in. Lastly, I was pleasantly surprised to find a robust selection of blazers and suit jackets right in the center of the shop. Other stores have reduced their jacket inventory post-pandemic, but not here. Why was I not surprised that TWO attorneys were shopping here at lunchtime today? They really have it all. The owners were incredibly professional and took the time to walk me through the entire process, which I truly appreciated as a first-timer. Because of the value of my items, they were also kind enough to return everything to me after about 60 days, which I found to be very thoughtful and fair. Although my focus this visit was selling and not purchasing, I can't ignore how great their selection is -- they have some really nice pieces. I also love that they use Facebook Live to promote items and that they operate two locations. And as a women-owned, Black-owned business, that's an even bigger reason for me to continue supporting them. I plan to try consigning again next season once I go through my wardrobe and decide what I'd like to bring in, and on my next visit I'll definitely be shopping too. Anyway, my jeans order never arrives at the Levi's store and the transaction unwinding process cost a star in this review -- although Visa, my bank, and the store's bank contributed mightily to the confusion. It turns out to be quite complicated to unwind a Visa Credit Card transaction a week or more after the charge was made. Bottom line is I got the jeans, brought them to Xitali and he's working his magic as I write.

He listened to what I wanted out of the skirt and made sure I was comfortable with all steps of the alterations process. He was very communicative and worked with my schedule regarding fittings and picking up the skirt. I found out Levi's had tailors via social media and I can definitely say that my first Levi's tailoring experience was a success and I will definitely be back.
