I have myself a tattoo for my 50th bday since at 25, I got my 1st one in Seattle, WA - USA. The place is nice, clean and very friendly. I didn't have appointment since this is more of a walk in. The staff there are very nice and helpful. They said that I can wait for next availability with is around 30mins and it was. My tattoo artist was nice and very detailed on what I want and where. Took her 10-15mins to come up with the drawing and printout. And took me back to her station, which is nice, clean and cute. Overall I am very satisfied with my tattoo in short noticed. My fiancé and I were visiting for St. Pats and HAD to get tattoos. He had studied abroad in the area previously and really wanted to get something fun. We of course went the most touristy, cliche route with our tattoos, so we weren't worried about finding a walk in spot, but these guys blew us out of the water. We were helped immediately and even though they were busy, they had us done within a couple hours. Dmitry did my tattoo and he is so talented. I just got a shamrock so nothing crazy over here, but his detail was incredible. My fiancé got a tattoo done by Izabela and she was SO sweet and professional - she took the time to carefully explain everything, the care, etc. We had another friend who also got a tattoo with her, her first tattoo ever, and I don't think she could have gotten a better artist to make her feel comfortable. The shop is so clean and inviting. There's a reason they're highly rated. Great spot for tattoos, great artists. Absolutely no complaints, highly recommend. read more

Would not recommend.. Very bad atmosphere. The woman I assume to be manager made us feel uncomfortable/unwelcome from the start and place didn't feel super clean.. There are definitely better options in the area, as my friend opted for a much nicer place not maybe 10 minutes walking distance. read more

I am traveling through Europe and decided to get the flowers of each country I'm visiting as a tattoo. I contacted the shop about a few days prior to arriving in Dublin and sent over reference photos and had an appt booked with Bella within an hour after amazing and quick communication with the shop. Upon arrival, Bella showed me what she came up with and it was perfect. The shop was clean and staff super kind. On a Monday bank holiday, I had dinner at Arisu down the street with a whole bottle of sake all to myself. Finished eating/drinking and had walked by and noticed Black Hat Tattoo around the corner. Surprised they were open, I thought I'd inquire. No I wasn't drunk, nor did I have plans to get another tat, but I ended up getting one as we all do. To enter, you've gotta ring the doorbell as the artists are busy at work in the back. I believe there are only three of them working in the shop. I waited in the lounge area, and searched through all their books and magazines. I mean yeah, this was an impromptu decision so like everyone else, you don't know what you want unless you bring in your own design of course. The waiting area, by the way, is pretty comforting with it's couch and all fancy with the fireplace and decor. Now, about a design and decision, I thought I'd get something written. Not knowing what concept or font to use, I was helped by Samara, and we went through several unique fonts and ideas. I didn't want anything complicated nor did I want it to be too time consuming. A decision based on impulse, I found what I liked, and we began the process. I stuck with Samara as my artist, and we started with a base cost of €70. Kinda pricey, but I went along anyways. I chose a naked right arm to get tatted on. She cleaned me up, poked me for about 30 minutes and I was done. It didn't even hurt. Would I use her again? Most likely, but next time I'll bring a design. read more

I went to The Black Hat last week for a constellation with Raff and as soon as I showed him what I wanted "Deathly Hallows sign" he knew straight away that it was Harry Potter I did not have to explain which I was impressed by. I booked appointment for today (29/09/20) and when I arrived the shop was clean and the staff were very welcoming. Raff was ready and he showed me the design he did and it was ten times better than what I wanted originally. Raff went out of his way and watched the Harry Potter movie which I am impressed about. All through the session he kept asking me if I was okay, if I needed a break. The tattoo is amazing I am extremely happy with it. Worth every cent. Aisling and James were also lovely and very professional. I would highly recommend The Black Hat and in particular highly recommended Raff to do your tattoo. Thanks guys read more

My wife and I were on our honeymoon and decided to get tattoos while in Dublin, and we stumbled upon The Black Hat while searching for tattoo shops. Our hotel was only a half mile from the shop so we walked there. The shop sits on a corner with big windows and feels very welcome. Everyone was super friendly, the music was great and luckily, Thais was not busy and was willing to work up some tattoos for the both of us. She was very open to our ideas and suggestions, and used her iPad to draw up exactly what we wanted, and did so very quickly. Thais and all of the other artists were very nice, their artwork and quality of tattoo work is fantastic. We will get more work done at the Black Hat if we're ever back in Dublin. I had long wanted a Celtic Cross tattoo, but couldn't find an artist I liked in America, so I saved the idea for a later time. Finally, my travels were going to take me to Ireland, so where better to realize my dream of a Celtic Cross tattoo? I did some mild research online and landed on The Black Hat. As I only had a finite amount of time, I started communicating with the shop to set up a design plan and appointment. Communications were seamless even with the time difference. So right off the start, I was very impressed with their communication and willing to set something up so detailed, so far in advance. On the day I showed up on time and they were ready for me. I worked with Mr. James Kennedy on my design, placement, color, etc. James was awesome. There is no other way to put it. "Comfortable" would not be a word I would always associate with Tattooing, but that is exactly how James made me feel. Comfortable with the design, really taking ownership and time with it. Then, physically comfortable during the process, as the session lasted about 3 hours due to the intricate knotting. He was kind, receptive, relaxed, not rushed, and frankly, everything that I would want in a tattoo artist or human being. The final product is great. I could not possibly be happier with the entire experience. I would recommend this shop, and Mr. Kennedy, for any of your tattooing needs in Dublin, and more specifically, traditional Irish artwork. Myself, my partner, and my partner's daughter have been planning to get tattoos together for quite some time. After some research, we stumbled upon this shop and decided to reach out. The entire experience from early-stage discussions, booking the appointments, and the big tattoo day was wonderful. This wasn't mine or my partner's first tattoo, but the amount of care, communication, and collaboration were by far the best I've ever received. My partner and I worked with Thais while my partner's daughter worked with Felipe. Both took the effort to listen to our ideas, and truly incorporate those ideas with their style.
