I was very excited to rejoin this year's class and continue my oil painting journey. This year, I had a very different experience. The class has twice as many students (12) and our classroom is half the size. Because we have so many students in so little space, navigating from the door to my seat was a challenge (we had two students set up right at the classroom door blocking the entrance). It was difficult to set up our equipment, learn, and paint. Lisa tried hard to answer all our questions and check our work; she was only able to give us a fraction of the attention I experienced from my class last year. During the class, Lisa even expressed her irritation at the large class size. After my complaint to Kristin Langevin, she gave me many excuses and is adamant that they did nothing wrong, but she was willing to change us to a larger room. Nevertheless, the class size is still too big for one teacher. It just takes too long for Lisa to go around the room and give us meaningful and impactful feedback. Under current management, their focus seems to be maximizing revenue not quality of the class and they are not very interested in listening to student's feedback. It is sad that Saratoga Arts does not appear to be interested in providing quality Art education to the Saratoga community anymore.

This made me extremely nervous as I didn't want the scarf harmed in any way, but after speaking with Kettlewell & Edward's, I decided to go with them, and I'm so glad I did. They took their time showing me different combinations of mats and frames because the scarf had so many colors in it. I had no problem waiting 2 months for the finished product and it came out better than I could have thought. A lot of Hermes scarfs show bunching or wrinkles once stitched because it's difficult to get it squarely perfect, but mine came out just right. The whole experience cost me $500, and while a bit expensive, the attention the detail, personal care and previous experience of dealing with Hermes scarfs made it worth it. Thank you!

Although we didn't make the tour (sold out), we drove up anyway to see if we could rent snowshoes to hike the trails on our own. Fortunately, there were plenty of snowshoes to go around - including kids/toddler sizes! - despite the tour group before us which I was afraid would clear out the snowshoe racks. But that was not at all the case! Rick and Linda at the Center could not have been lovelier or more helpful. Rick walked us through the trail map, pointing out where the tour group had gone (who would've broken in the snow for us), and being mindful of the fact that we were hiking with a small child who may or may not have a meltdown somewhere along the way, and how far into the hike it is likely to happen, from experience. I pulled out AllTrails to help with navigation, and Rick told us he actually created the GPS tracks for the property in the app! There are 3 miles of hiking trails across the 73-acre property, well marked with blazes and easy to follow. The woods were so beautiful and serene in the fresh snow. My child enjoyed the StoryWalk on the Sugar Trail and had me read the story to him. In addition to the educational exhibits in the farmhouse welcome center & museum (including some cute turtles!), the Center offers a variety of environmental education programs throughout the year (birds, butterflies, wildlife, night sky, hikes, field guides, crafting, seasonal events, etc.). It is now maple sugaring season so you can learn about the process and visit the sugarhouse when it's open. In the summer, you can see the butterfly garden, picnic by the pond, and explore the grounds with vistas of Lake George. We loved our visit to Up Yonda Farm, and the snowshoe hike turned out to be the highlight of our weekend. What a magical experience for all seasons!

I recently visited Up Yonda Farm Environmental Education Center for their maple-making tour and…read moreabsolutely loved it! This was my first time visiting and it was such a fun experience. The snowy setting made it even more special. We walked along a path through the woods while learning about how maple syrup is made. It was really interesting to hear about the history of maple sugaring and see the progression of tools that have been used over time. One of my favorite parts was the tasting. At the very beginning we got to try raw maple sap, and later we tasted the syrup fresh after it had been made. It honestly changed my mind about maple syrup -- I used to not like it, but tasting it fresh made me appreciate it so much more. There is plenty of parking, and the bathrooms are right next to the parking lot. After parking, you walk up to the main house to check in. The tour starts off to the side of the house near a fire pit, which was a nice gathering spot. At the end of the tour they served French toast sticks with different maple syrups to try, which was delicious and a perfect way to finish the experience. Overall, this was such a fun family-friendly event. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique outdoor activity and a great way to learn about maple syrup!

Three years ago I purchased a 22" long engraved Lake George image on a 34" slab of spalted maple…read more Other pieces had a glossy finish that I preferred so I asked them to add the epoxy to my piece. They were concerned that it would bleed into the soft wood and I assured them I would still love it. It came out perfect. Over the years I've enjoyed the piece and the place I chose to hang it until one day back in January I decided I wanted a larger version. I emailed them a picture of the current piece asking them if they could do the same on a larger scale to take up the entire wall. After many weeks they found a 101" spalted oak slab and sent me images along with a detailed description of the wood's unique characteristics. We chose a 36" engraved lake image strategically placed at eye level once hung. I was sent digital images of how the final piece would look once engraved. 8 days following agreement to proceed, the piece arrived perfectly packaged in a very professional, custom made crate including custom cut styrofoam and wrap. It was super easy to extract the piece from the crate (just needed a screw driver to unscrew the screws). And when I did, I gasped with joy as it was so impressive looking laying protected in it's cushioned bed. I've decided to save the crate parts (2x4 wood, plywood, and styrofoam) for scrap projects at the house since the pieces are in perfect condition. They attached a french cleat hanger (very stylish and functional) with instructions on how to hang it. In less than 10 minutes I had it on my wall. WOW! I immediately sent them pictures with the message, "I could not have received a better representation of the vision I had in my mind when I embarked on this quest. It is perfect!" Adirondack Live Edge are professionals. They were attentive to details, continually communicated with me throughout the idea and design process, and went above and beyond in the successful creation of my piece. I highly recommend them for any of your live edge wood projects, big or small. Thanks again Justin and team. It is BEAUTIFUL!

There is no entry fee required, but there is a place to drop cash donations. Yet another treasure in the city of Saratoga.

What a find! First, it's free. Second, if you have even the slightest interest in America's wars…read morethis museum will impress and educate. The museum is housed in the Saratoga armory. The exhibits begin with the Revolutionary War (focusing on Burgoyne's invasion) and continuing clockwise take you through Vietnam. It also has an impressive Naval exhibit. I believe I was there for more than two hours. The exhibits included placards explaining what you are viewing. Of course the central theme is NYS's connections to each war, particularly the contributions of the famed NYS National Guard. Many of the relics were either made in NYS or presented to the museum by NYS veterans. If you admire military weaponry this is the place to visit.
