Bartender was fun to talk to! Very cozy ambience. I felt welcome. Prices were reasonable. I had never been before but will again!

Last night, my friends and I spent a couple of hours at this fantastic bar. The bartenders were very friendly & super helpful. The drinks were good and very well-priced. I had a vodka cranberry for just $5. Though this pub doesn't serve food, there is a restaurant next door where you can grab your grub. Please note that you cannot park on the street in front of the bar after 10 PM Thursday through Saturday. Also, watch for the community advocates assisting people after dark. I was startled when a man started talking to me as I walked to my car. After attending a crime convention, I felt very wary of him. However, I now realize he was one of the community advocates who are there to keep downtown safe for all of its visitors. Overall, my trip to The Blind Pig was successful and is part of my cherished memories of my trip to Champaign this year. read more

Great beer selection, nice feel for a pub if you don't like TVs. Focus is on social interaction. One location in itself is excellent and deserves at least a four star rating. Fun trivia, there have been three Blind Pig bars in town, the original was where Cowboy Monkey currently is when the owner was still partnering with what would later be CMT. Unfortunately the ownership cares nothing for the safety of patrons and doesn't enforce the most basic of security or training required by the city. Do not go to this location late night. read more

This is the kind of bar you have always wanted to visit in college. It's a little nicer, but it still shows a little wear. In other words, it's nice, but not pretentious. Their beer selection is some of the best in the area. If you are looking to try some different, high quality beers, this is the place to be! They also brew at least six of their own beers which are the best in Champaign-Urbana. Some of my favorites are the U of IPA and Raspberry Wheat. The prices are also extreme fair and I would even argue lower for some of their higher quality goods. One of the best parts of this bar is their half off happy hour from 4-6 EVERYDAY. This is one of the best deals I have ever seen at a bar. My friend and I were able to have an hours worth of high quality brews for about $6 each! That is usually the price of ONE good beer in Chicago. The only downside is that the outdoor area is smoking and can waft into the bar. I also don't think they are following the Illinois smoking rules as the ashtrays are less than 15 feet from the door. Smoking aside, this place is legit and recommend it to anybody passing through Champaign! read more

BEWARE, there are two Blind Pigs, one block apart!! This one looks sort of like a flipped image of the other location. It's a little bit darker I think, but similar decor and seating options! I think I like the ambiance at the OTHER Blind Pig better, because it's brighter, and they have a cool look near the bar because all the tall canisters are lined up -- they brew their own beer there! (sorry not sure the official terminology for the fermentation vessels.) I had the Blueberry Stout here at Blind Pig Co, soo yummy. Bartender was super nice. They have a lot of wood furniture, so it's definitely a casual feeling place, there are a lot of locals -- if you're looking for a "trendy" spot, this is not the place to go. Dark and close, this pub makes me feel as if I might turn a corner to find Christopher Marlowe and some theater pals celebrating an opening performance. I love the darkness and all the wood, the nooks and the large, enclosed booths. You could plan a Guy Fawkes plot in one of those! Beer selection is very good; there were a few entries on the menu which were new to me. That hardly happens anymore. Unfortunately they were out of my preferred choice, but with a selection like this, it's no problem to come up with another. I don't drink beer. I know. I enjoy a good hard cider, or a mixed drink, or perhaps a frou-frou now and again. I was excited to see that The Blind Pig is brewing their own cider, but bummed that it isn't being sold yet. I (tried) to settle for Woodchuck Amber, but they were out--must have been popular, cause the guy two stools down had one, and the girl after me asked for one! I then had to double settle for the Woodchuck Pear, which actually ended up better than I remember. I don't know what to say here that hasn't already been said. I enjoy going here with just my boyfriend or a group, normally for relaxing, evening drinking. I've occasionally used it as a place to study or play board games in the afternoon. It's not really a "PARTAYYYY!" kind of bar, but it occasionally sees some people looking to turn it into one. During the weekends, especially during the summer, it usually gets hella crowded late at night, and it's difficult to find a seat, especially if you're a group of more than four. They always have several excellent beers on tap, and seem to do a good job of keeping the ones around that people actually like. And the list of beers on tap is so long that you'll find something that sounds good, whether your taste be for the extra-bitter IPA or the super-chocolatey stout. You can also get sampler flights if you're not sure what the hell a "Hefeweizen" is. There is occasionally live music, and there is always darts. read more

Pretty sure that this has become one of my favorite bars in Champaign. Had a rough time with a bartender for a bit (who is no longer there, thank f-ck), but everyone is really nice and it's very much so a bar that caters to their regulars. If you're respectful to these bartenders, they'll respect you, and are really friendly when they get to know you. Also make sure you tip your bartenders handsomely. Outstanding beer selection at very reasonable prices. That's the bottom line. They brew their own beer as well which ranges from delicious to somewhat strange (the chili beer was great but strange and after more than maybe 6 oz burned like all hell). Great atmosphere and I always loved going to Blind Pig to avoid the mess of going out on Green Street. 21+ truly does have its benefits. Great atmosphere, great vibe. Dart boards in the back, bartenders who know and truly care about their beers and plenty of space. The back room is surprisingly large. My favorite nights were Black Dog for dinner, then driving across town to Blind Pig. That's the best it'll ever be. read more

Cool vibe here, nice beer garden, great selection. They only had two of their own brews on tap during my visit, the IPA was sold out. I had their ESB, it was ok, but the guest tap selection was excellent. Great setting and relaxing. I actually started at their bar about a block away because I didn't know about the brewery. I'll just start this review by saying wow about 17 and a half times and then some. I was in town to watch my Hawkeyes play the Illini and have made a pledge to come back here on my next outing. I went to a number of places, while in town, and this was absolutely one of my favorite spots. The service was quality, the beer was top notch, that sour IPA is an absolute must! The ambiance is a thing in itself and when you couple that with some tasty brews it lands you a 5 star review. Keep doing your thing because you do it well! Can't wait to drop by again. read more

My girlfriend and I always stop in on Monday nights because they have $2 off all bottles. (beer) That being said, we usually have about 4 or 6 beers in total for around $10. A great deal! We each have about 3 beers and end up only paying around $10 total. As of this past Monday, we will not be patronizing the Blind Pig any longer. The bartender told us they were completely out of the Weach, which is my favorite. I then ask for the apricot, which they are out of as well...keep in mind, both of these beers run about $1.50 each on Monday nights with the discount. He then offers up a raspberry beer that he promises will be comparable to the fruit beers that they were out of. However, the bartender forgets to mention that the beer he suggested, which I've never heard of before was $25 per bottle!!! How deceptive and shady! I am clearly a regular there on Monday nights due to the cheap bottle beer...shouldn't you give the customer a "heads up" that the beer you just suggested to them was $25 a bottle? Shady and very deceptive. I ended up ordering his suggestion, which I hated and later found out it was $25 a bottle when I went to close my tab. Buyer beware!!! read more

Ahh the blind delicious piggie. I love this place. What a great bar. They have a great beer selection and I always love getting their flights. 5 beers to sample. No cover at this place. It is not for the dueschbags. DOUBLE PLUS. I doubt a illini frat boy has ever even heard of this place so keep it down. Beside there is no jäger machine here for them haha. Anyway. This place is definitely a must To come drink at. The inside is sort of dark but it sets up the mood. They have outdoor seating as well but i usually go inside in the covered wooden booth. I went on a snowy Monday night, and the atmosphere is a typical bar atmosphere. It was quiet and laid-bad, with mainly locals hanging around, live piano music. One guy works on his laptop at a table while nursing his beer. This is officially my favorite bar in Champaign now (though I can't say I've visited many bars recently). The list of beers on tap is amazing. They have beers from California, Colorado, Canada, llinois, Wisconsin, all draught. I recommend the $8 sampler if you don't know what to order. By the way, what is it about blindness and beer? Blind Pig Company in Champaign and Blind Lady Ale House in San Diego are both excellent beer bars. Blind Pig Company, unless I am blind, I will see you again next time I visit CU. read more

This place can be summed up in one word. Overrated. Sure they have a great beer selection, but their staff are pretty pompous for this and the seating is atrocious. Roll into this place from down the street a tad where friendly humans are behind the bar without a 'tude and you might get the same bummer I have most times I visit. Someone else used the term "pompous" and I can second that. "Surly" would work, too. And it doesn't have to be crowded for you to be invisible as you wistfully look at the beers wanting to grab another so you can head back to one of the cool hide-away tables with your friends. What everyone else is saying about great beer selection, cool pub appearance (sans the warm human hospitality), coziness, lack of flat scream teevees, etc... that's all true. The place has a lot going for it. But my two cents to the staff: if you hate people, maybe bartending is not your gig. Oh yea, when I have my change sitting on the bar next to my beer, don't slide by to grab it like a snake grabbing an egg, then slither off to stand, arms crossed, staring at the wall. This bar is not for you if you want to a drink a domestic, light beer. It's also not for you if you're looking for a full bar or club atmosphere. If you want to relax in a cozy atmosphere and drink a craft beer, Blind Pig is for you. Blind Pig regularly has 20ish craft beers on tap. I love that I can order small 4 ounce tasters if I want to try a bunch of different brews. The prices are very reasonable, really cheaper than anywhere else downtown. Often they have tap takeover events where you can have the opportunity to try beers that normally don't make it to Central Illinois. One of the very best bars in Champaign. The Blind Pig has a superlative selection of beers as well as a full liquor line up. Beer geeks come from hundreds of miles away to drink here. They have paper menus of their approximately 24 beers on tap, but be warned, they are always changing these up, so check the big white board at the back of the bar for the latest line up. If you have never had one, a cask-conditioned ale is good to try. If you don't like it, I will take the remainder off your hands. They also have lots and lots and lots of bottled beers, but they turn these over fast. I have never had a skunked beer here, even when ordering really obscure bottles that would gather dust at any other place. The bar staff are well trained and know their shit. The only complaints I have is that they can seem snotty when a customer mispronounces a foreign-sounding beer. Not a big deal to me, because if I was on the other side of the bar and somebody asked for a Stella Artoys, I'd have a little fun at their expense, too. The decor and crowd are extremely casual. Unfinished wood and unshaven granola. Performance fleece is the new cashmere. Chacos and Tevas, not Manolos or Jimmy Choos. This is very much a grad student/young professional bar. Undergrads should go across the way to the Piglet or better yet, stay on campus. The prices are a little higher than you may be used to for swill (and I have absolutely nothing against cheap beer) but the prices are absolutely fair for what they serve. read more

The beer selection is good and the bar staff is usually very friendly, but I don't know about this whole four or five star business. This is a good bar, it has a nice beer/cider selection (as has been noted) and a good atmosphere, generally. My only issue is that it tends to be absolutely PACKED on the weekends, and it is not a space meant for crowds. There is no place to stand and not be in someone's way, majorly. You will find yourself getting belligerent regardless of the amount you've had to drink after waiting 20 minutes just to close out a tab. Or perhaps if waiting 20 minutes isn't enough of an annoyance, you've also got the skeezy dudes hanging around the bar waiting to hit on poor unsuspecting ladies just trying to order a fucking drink. But I suppose it's a testament to the bar's quality that it has such a problem with crowds and skeezy men. I can't not recommend it, because I've gone there on weekday nights and had a really chill and nice time, but if you go there on a weekend be prepared to be at least mildly pissed off. read more

I dig the beer sampler they offer. You get to choose like 6 beers to try for around $8 and they are very generous pours. Tons to try and I definitely tried more beer that night than ever before. Beer is still not as good as my wine but i'm learning to appreciate it. Bartender can't really handle a crowd and they seem really short staffed at certain points. They actually ran out of glasses! A bar known for draft beers running out of glasses seems quite odd. Crowd is ok and leaned bit more towards a late twenties and up crowd (give or take a few). The music was just ok as well. I had the Hebrew/She'Brew! This She'brew is a triple IPA. My beverage was served in a small brandy glass and was sunset bronze in color. Additionally, this IPA exemplifies a slight citrus orange flavor on the palate. She'brew's rich notes comes from flaked oats and an assortment of malts which create bitterness perfectly paired with a little sweetness.I highly recommend it, especially if you want to try something off the beaten path!! . read more

The Atmosphere - 5 stars. I love hanging out at the Piglet, whether it be in the snug inside at one of the small wooden tables, or especially the fantastic patio in the alley out back. The ambience is great outdoors with strings of lights hanging and a small water fountain, and its a great place to come read or catch up with friends. The Guest Taps - 5 stars. Though only 12ish taps are available, I always find two or three beers that I can't wait to try, and the rotating nature of the taps keeps everything fresh! The Blind Pig Beer - 2 stars. I've just never been super impressed with what I've tasted of the beers made at the Piglet; some too thin, some too heavy, some with just a weird funk! Overall - 4 stars. I waffled between 4 or 5 here, my experiences being at the 5 level. But if my review is to encompass the whole place, and the Pig beer is part of that, and I just haven't fallen for it yet! read more
