We were all staying at the RV park and wanted to eat out. I suggested we all try Blue Rooster. We were there on a Thursday evening and they were not busy at all. Our server was cheerful but our food was just "OK". I had the fish and shrimp combination basket with he fried jalapeños. The jalapeños were good, the shrimp was good, the fish was good. We are local to the area but this was our first visit here. The atmosphere has all the makings of a successful restaurant. The waitstaff were all good and attentive. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered fried squash as an appetizer, it was very greasy with very little flavor. The restaurant was not busy but we had to wait 1 1/2hrs for our food. The BLT's were not good, on regular bread with bacon that was not done. By the time we got our food we were pretty much fed up with waiting. We won't be back. To be fair, they did put on the menu that the food takes a little longer during tourist season (we were here for spring break) but I still didn't expect it to take an hour. Food was "OK" at best. Cute restaurant, I like the atmosphere, but wish we would've sat out on the patio. The patio has string lighting and pretty ferns. I had the chicken and shrimp basket, and my fiancé had the catfish. It was decent food, but a little pricey considering the portion size, it was $11 for the chicken and shrimp with one side. I got the Mac and cheese for my side so we had to add $1, it was pretty good. The basket was only 3 fried shrimp and a few small pieces of chicken. The chocolate friend pie I had for desert was pretty good. Service was fair. I would come back, but would order something different. read more

Stopped in to eat with a party of 10, including 3 small children. First off, it took them almost 10 minutes to acknowledge and get us seated. We had to ask for a large table in the corner instead of sitting back to back with another large table due to us having small kids. Once we sat down they brought us table covering paper with crayons and that's it. The 2 or 3 waitresses passed us over and over again and never stopped to ask us about drinks or anything. There were not many occupied tables in the place. And to top it off, a table of gentlemen came in and were waited on immediately. We finally had to stop the hostess/ waitress and ask her if we could get service ( going on 20 minutes at this point) and she was no help. We finally just told the next passing employee at least some of us were leaving because we were being ignored and watched them cater to a table that came in after us. The girl apologized and made some excuse about using something and not knowing who was next or some crazy reason. We all ended up leaving and will never go back or recommend. Went tonight March 11, with six friends from Texas. Ordered a beer. Ok. Then ordered sandwiches, chicken fingers and so on. We waited , waited , and waited. The place was not 15% full. We asked what was going on. The wait staff ignored us knowing we were upset. After over an hour one of our party got up and left. 1.5 hours later our good arrived. The food was nothing to write home about. By then all we wanted to do is leave and go back to the cabin to get some real food. By now it was 9:40 pm. I can assure anyone reading this that this is one of the worst restaurants we have ever been in. Plus the wait staff was basically rude and offered no resolution to such a terrible experience. Do yourself a favor and go next door to the Greatful Head for a great pizza and friendly wait staff. Very Disappointing. read more

So we went to Grateful Head the day before and saw there was a gift shop close by. We went to the gift shop which led us to the Blue Rooster. Obviously having just eaten we were not going to eat again, but the next day we made sure to visit before leaving town. Once inside the restaurant there was a hometown feel to it. The menu is simple southern. Nothing crazy. The tea was a little too sweet but that might be the worst thing I can say about this place. They put butcher paper down on the tables and if you have kids they bring crayons for them to color on it. So fun for them and makes it easy for the parents. I ordered the fried bologna sandwich and it was delicious. It came with a choice of fries or homemade chips. I went with the fries and they were good too. I also got a side of hush puppies as well which were good. The waitress was awesome. My wife got the shrimp po'boy. She thought it was good and at one point wondered how she was going to eat it all. To finish it off we got a scoop of ice cream. Will definitely come back the next time we go to Broken Bow! read more

My extended family vacationed in Broken Bow this past week and decided to give this restaurant a try. Huge mistake. Even though the place was not crowded at all, we waited almost an hour for our food, and then when it arrived, it was cold. The catfish, chicken tenders, French fries, hushpuppies--all cold. My guess is the order just sat in the back waiting to be delivered. The service was absolutely terrible. We had to ask for things (drinks, condiments, missing food!) two or three times before getting them. My mother went up to the payment counter to complain, and the person didn't act like it mattered at all. And apparently this place has no manager on duty during the day, so complaining does no good. There was no effort to remedy the situation or offer any kind of discount on our cold food. All of that led to the single time in my life I can remember doing this: I left no tip. That's how bad it was. I strongly advise avoiding this place. I have no clue how they've stayed in business. Oh wait, I guess it's sucker tourists like me who don't know better. This place is absolutely awful in every way. We ordered some food to go, everything right off the menu, nothing special. We were told it would be 20 minutes, it took 54 minutes, no exaggeration. We inquired about the food several times, when we could finally track someone down they just kept telling us it was almost ready. The staff didn't care at all, I guess this is normal? When we finally got our food we didn't even check it, we just wanted to get out of there. Our cabin is about 5 minutes away, when we got there it was a disaster. Everything was very cold, and the portions were so small it was almost comical, we just couldn't believe it. The kids all microwaved their food, and my wife and I just tried to make the best of ours.
