I popped along to The Blues Kitchen on the bank holiday Sunday just gone with 3 of my friends. I was unaware that they had a bank holiday party going on, my friends and I were just out to get some food and have a catch up. Although the venue was very busy by 6ish when we all met up, we still just about managed to grab a table. We ordered from a lovely looking waitress; a couple of burgers, some ribs and some southern fried chicken. All of our dishes were lovely, the meat fell off the ribs and melted in the mouth, the burgers came on great big wooden boards with the fries in a silver cup which we all thought was a cool and original idea. About 10 or so minutes are we finished eating some loud circus music started and the venue was greated by a young chap dressed up as a ringmaster! He introduced a one man band a bit like Seasick Steve and the live music got underway. Our waitress informed us that due to the bank holiday the venue was putting on a Rock N Roll Circus! We were all so impressed that we stayed on and watched two more bands and a magician! There was a great amosphere and when we left at about 11pm there was a queue up the street to get in for the evenings entertainment. I dont know much about blues, I normally imagine some older fellas singing about their troubles - the guys playing tonight were all younger and seemed ready for a party but it still sounded like great blues to me! read more

was so excited when the restaurant first opened as it looks adorable and is so convenient. I've gone three times, keep hoping that with time the tweaks would be worked out, but now a year later ....I can say there is no hope. We came in on a Sunday hung over and looking for a delicious brunch. The wait staff quickly acknowledged that they were new and I am quiet understanding about beginners, but our experience was entirely unexcusable. We had to ask for over 5 times for the menu and were told by another waitress when we asked again and the first thing out of her mouth was "that it was not her fault because it wasn't her table". We also had to ask over 10 times for water, but albeit it didn't come until after our meal was almost half done. Our other drinks came after our meal (again after +5 asks) and our bloody mary's were undrinkable. I think they may have used V8 and were truly disgusting!! The OJ was from concentrate too....The food was sub-par at best - the only thing edible was the chips. The pancakes required a saw to cut and the hash browns had an odd flavour. After another 30 minutes of even attempting to get the bill, we were all tempted to dine and dash to say the least.... Breaking on to the Camden scene takes some going with a number of venue's already established and much loved. However fair play to the blues kitchen as this has already become a fav of mine! Rocked up on a Friday night at about 8 and was immediately impressed by the look and style of the place. It was busy, and took a while to get served but where doesn't on a Friday? Great atmosphere, lots of cool people and reasonably priced. Liked it so much that I went back on the Saturday after trailing through Camden market for a while. Had a great brunch / hangover cure which perked me up a treat! Great that this place delivers on a lot of fronts, with live music, a proper blues feel and a great soul food menu its definitely distinctive, and I'll no doubt be propping up the bar a lot in the future! read more

We drove from out of town to see Ian Siegal play here last week. We had no idea of what to expect from the venue but thought we would try and get down early for some food. After a long drive - it was a joy to sit in the comfy leather booths and get stuck into dinner. It takes the meaning of 'hearty American' food to the next level, between us we shared a platter (almost a main on its own) and then had the BBQ chicken and a steak. Driving had to stop me from drinking but simply looking at the bar shows off a huge range of whiskey - next time we are hitting the big smoke, someone else can drive so we can sample some drinks! Excellent night out, Ian Siegal went on and played 2 brilliant sets, one of our favourite artists at the moment, a very very good experience, we will be back! read more

Having been here on a weekend night, which by the way is so much fun, I decided to have lunch here with an American friend of mine. We booked for a Thursday lunchtime around two o'clock. It seemed quite busy when we arrived but it did not seem to affect the service. Our waitress was really friendly and knowledgeable, we asked for a recommendation and were advised to have swordfish nicoise and the jerk chicken burger. I really enjoyed my nicoise the fish was seared to perfection and I found the whole dish nice and light. My friend had the burger med/well and remarked how well the meat had been cooked. We ended with chocolate and peanut butter shakes which were unbelievable. So my love affair with blues continues and am definitely going to spend more lunchtimes here. read more

A great venue for after work drinks, the Blues Kitchen also probably has the best hot wings I have ever had on their menu. The staff are friendly and the bar attracts (thankfully!) some real hotties and smart Camdenites, along with the odd tourists. We had a good evening here on Tuesday, when we decided to have an impromptu Xmas party. And what a party it was! The cocktails were spot on and the prices quite reasonable - the music was fabulous - they had a night called Soul Jam on, kind of a blues soul night which was kind of an open mic night, some good talent showcased that evening. I'm now looking forward to eating some of that interesting sounding 'soul food' that they offer and ofcourse sampling the bourbon. Will be back soon. read more

I'm not sure if this is the best Blues Bar in London or the Best Soul Food Restaurant. What I'm sure of is that the Blues Kitchen does offer some reasonably good food at very reasonable prices, the booths are comfortable and great if you are in with a group of friends whereas the music - whether live or DJ is enjoyable. If you're looking for a cheap yet first class experience then the best thing to do is sit home with one of Howling Wolf's DVD's & eat some home cooked food. If you fancy a night out that's not too heavy on the pocket and fun, then go to the Blues Kitchen. You don't even have to eat, just grab a table, get some of those to-die for bourbons and relax. Last weekend I got off the tube at Camden and was handed a flyer for brunch at The Blues Kitchen, feeling pretty troubled by a hangover I thought it would be nice to avoid the busy market and tourists and sit down to some strong coffee and a breakfast! I sat down with my girlfriend and we were greated by a lovely waitress who brought us as much coffee and water as we could drink! We both ordered some pancakes which we completely delicious, my girlfriend went for the short stack but me being me went for the high stack! I must say, really well done to the chef - I havent eaten pancakes like that since I went to New York a few years ago. I highly recommend a bite to eat at Blues Kitchen. read more

Walked in to the Blues Kitchen last night for a quick bite & ended up staying all night.. Totally loved it! I was quite unsure of southern food but the Seafood Gumbo changed it all for me. The Blues Kitchen is not what I would think of as an 'authentic' blues place. It is quite modern, has a much younger crowd but definitely has an 'authentic' soul food menu. Even my simple cornbread appetiser was hearty & filling. My collegue had a Prawn Po' Boy and was smiling all night long. Later the lovely Florence Joelle belted out some gypsy blues & we couldn't but help but stay on mesmerised by her lovely voice and personality. What's happened??? Looks as though the blues kitchen is suffering from the blues!! I re-visited last week with my friends all fired up and looking for another amazing food experience something has gone definitely wrong. The food was very ordinary and tasted as though it was coming form a microwave packet, who made the Gumbo?? NOT GOOD!! My friend had a burger, are you looking to align to Burger King or MvDonalds?? Why is that a place that has the potential to really rock in the first instance, starts to cut corners and become just another mediocre snack bar with live music. Don't bother coming South if this is what you have to offer now...We can live without you!! read more

So many bars, so little time! But make it to The Blues Kitchen you must. For it is one of the many bars in London, that is actually worth going to. Being a blues venue, it does stock an extensive list of bourbons and whiskey along with the regular wines and beer. It is also quite different from most of the skanky Camden venues with a great interior (check out the trumpet like chandelier and the garage lamps) and cosy seating areas. It is ideal for after work drinks, where you want to listen to the blues and nibble on some blackened prawn. To me this is perhaps one of the best bars this side of London, which I will frequent for a long time to come. Recommended. read more

Love love love this place, great music, great food, the staff are just the best! It does get pretty busy on a weekend so I'd recommend booking if you want a table, but equally, if you're not bothered and you just want to dance and enjoy a couple cocktails you can just do that! The band always seems to be on a bit later than it says on the website, but that's to be expected with live music so I'm not bothered, plus the DJ always has some great tunes :) Their whiskey menu is very extensive indeed so you'll need to line your stomach and it isn't massively diet-friendly so I'd recommend stretchy trousers. read more

One of the few venues that showcase blues in London, The Blues Kitchen is a satisfying and welcome addition. With one of the few bars in Camden/London that stock some of the best bourbons & whiskeys, it has climbed up to among the top bars on my list. The venue usually has a band on every night - sometimes the blues sometimes a DJ. Usually very busy, the only difficulty I've had is to find a seating area, although the staff are quite helpful in helping you find one sooner or later. Good service, great atmosphere define this bar & I'm more than happy to visit it again & again! read more

Had a great night here on Thursday. Came down to try the place out as haven't been here since it opened. I had the Steak which was delicious and cooked to perfection and my partner tried the Gumbo which she said was very authentic (being American!) Great live music too, think it was Chicago Red who we saw play and the crowd were loving it as were we. Am keen to see what the venue is like on a weekend night as places around Camden can get so packed and uncomfortable so we'll be stopping by soon to give it a try. read more

SO here I am, walking through Camden Town with £20 burning a hole in my pocket and one giant mother of a hangover. I needed brunch. So imagine my delight when a see a slick joint with a mighty fine selection of bourbon and an even mightier fine selection of TAIL, So I order my pancakes from this real classy broad, and take my seat. Living just round the corner great night outs for me either start or end with a tipple at the blues kitchen. Has an awesome vibe, great clientele and jaw dropping selection of bourbons which I do love to indulge in on the odd late night! The entertainment is great as well and whilst no consieur im starting to develop a right little penchant for blues! Perhaps the kicker is that they have a license till 3AM on weekend so late nights a plenty! read more

We work down the road close to Euston and The Blues Kitchen has become our regular meeting place for lunch or after - work drinks. We love the platters - the buffalo wings are one of the greatest things I have ever eaten! We always get caught out and end up staying for the music which starts quite late and stumble into work with a hangover the following day but never regret it - London needs more places like the blues kitchen! read more

Excellent Sunday at The Blues Kitchen! The Blues Jam to start with and Football later. Booked a small booth for a late lunch, enjoyed every bit of it - not the usual Sunday Roast but more like a brunchy south American. Good if you fancy a change from the usual. Was fascinated by the number of bourbons they have at the bar, perfect for afficiando's (not me, I wish I were). Will be back however for some more blues and great food. read more

I'm not what you would call the biggest blues fan and I'm not American but i really liked this place. I've been a few times now one very busy Saturday night i loved the music and had a great night out with the girls just drinking some really nice apple cocktail... and a couple of times to eat . The ribs were amazing better than I've had at a couple of other places and the seafood dish my friend had was really good to. read more
