I went to go see Oliver Tree last night. The audio and band were great. However, I'm not sure if this was the doing of the people in charge of the band or the venues fault. It felt that they over sold tickets which caused there to be almost zero space to even stand to see the band play. It was stressful standing outside waiting to go in. I was literally standing in line on the ON RAMP to 71. I'm not sure why they didn't have someone out there directing where to go. I was lucky to be able to stand in the ditch to avoid standing in the actual road. They charged 10 dollars for parking which was not advertised on the website that I could see. It made zero sense to charge for parking since you could just drive on the other side skipping their parking price. I'll probably never return here again. I saw the EMS show up and they could hardly get into the building due to how many people were there. Concerts this size shouldn't go to this size of a venue. There isn't enough space! read more

Cute venue! We went here for a madeon concert. It's standing room only and it's a very small space, but it's inside of an old church building and it is quaint and cozy. There was also a food truck outside that made the best burger of my life. Which I could remember what it was. There was what I think was a VIP area which was basically the churches balcony seating area. I didn't go up there but from where I was it looked like it was standing room only as well. read more

Yesterday a friend and I went to a concert at The Bluestone. It was the worst experience ever. People were pushing so hard and were smoking pot. I can't believe outside there was a lot of security but it helped for nothing. People were looking for air; we couldn't breathe. Im glad no one was hurt but I had never seen a place like this in my life. They sold tickets and tickets but the place capacity was more than covered. The event organization was terrible. Do not recommend it at all !!! read more

I went here to see Madeon's Good Faith Live. The venue was small, intimate, and they have a really good burger food truck(?) outside of the church area. If you're anticipating that you're going to be at a crowded concert, you will literally not have an inch to yourself. People were constantly moving on me while I was at this concert, but I had expected as much. They have a balcony up top, but you have to pay I think around 10-20 bucks more for that. Personally, I wanted to be right there in the thick of it to be up close. I'd come here again for a concert, although they were quite uppity about getting people out of the building and off the premises when people were still getting food at the food truck. read more

Saw Madeon here. I paid extra for the VIP area upstairs. Madeon was great, but the venue could be better. Drinks were insanely expensive ($8/pint for cheap domestic beer). There is no seating in the VIP area like other venues have - you have to jockey for position at the railing. Fortunately I got there early enough to have a good view. The inside of the building is very unrefined for a concert venue. It's an old church but you'd think they'd renovate it a bit on the inside. It's like they bought the church and left it completely as-is. I would go here again out of necessity if there was an act there that I like. Not sure I would spring on the VIP again though. read more

The parking lot concert for Aaron Lewis wasn't fun until he came on stage. The venue allowed people to bring their own chairs. However, the chairs were literally everywhere and you could barely get through to go to a beer tent or a food vendor. Not fun at all. It took 45 minutes to get a hotdog, waiting in line along the front of port a johns because there were so many chairs you couldn't stand anywhere else. Then people got mad if you were standing too close to their chair. Nowhere else to go! Chairs are fine, but designated areas and rows are really necessary. read more

Great old church renovated into a concert venue = A-OK concert venue for smaller crowds. So, I think the Bluestone has 7 bars. One on the patio, 3 on the first floor and 3 on the second floor. Getting a drink will NOT be a problem. What is a problem is the acoustics particularly upstairs. The left side of the balcony completely distorts any music being played downstairs. Surprisingly, The right side upstairs is fine. The bathrooms upstairs are gorgeous and have really cool sinks! Strange that they're so upscale where other parts of the building haven't been upgraded in the same way. Catering and bar staff are friendly and efficient. Security staff seemed useless. For large events, they put porta-johns on the patio; classy. Ironically, they smelled better compared to the hoard of smokers out there. Overall, a versatile and comfortable venue. I can't say I'd seek out an event here. Like, I wouldn't host my wedding here, but for an occasional concert, not bad, not bad at all, just avoid the balcony left side. read more

The Bluestone is a great place to throw a party. I've been to Trauma and more recently the CYP Wine Around The World event (thanks to Yelp for the comps) The main room is impressive but it gets crowded fast. It's a fun place to wander when all the rooms are open. I can't really tell what the plan is supposed to be for live music, it seems to function better for other kinds of events. They have some technical challenges that make it tricky to do shows in there. If i was going put bands on stage I would want to rent extra lighting. There's tons of parking in back and the staff is extremely friendly. The Bluestone has its quirks, but it's a solid event space. read more

This is a beautiful space, but each time I'm in there I notice a few things that could be improved. First and foremost is signage - if you don't know exactly what you're looking for, there's a pretty good chance you'll miss it, especially at night, and parking is poorly marked. There's nothing around the venue if you're looking for a place to go afterwards, or a place to meet beforehand. As others have pointed out, the lack of wi-fi options is a problem, especially when running an event that uses a lot of social media. Drink prices are nuts. $8 for a tiny martini in a plastic sippy-cup? Seriously? That said, it's an incredibly atmospheric venue and the converted church is just a beautiful space. It just hurts because it feels like this place could be the #1 spot in Columbus with just a few tweaks. read more

I have been to The Bluestone twice now, once for a wedding, and a second time for a concert. I enjoyed both experiences with the only negative being that you have to walk upstairs from the main area to get to the restroom. For the wedding there was an open bar...so the drink prices were great from my perspective. For concerts I am not sure if the prices change based on the performer but I had no complaints. $6 for a 19oz Dales Pale Ale.....fantastic deal as far as I am concerned! What is also cool is once you have a tab open at a bar, you can go to any bar in the place and get your drinks on that tab. Its a nice feature. read more

There are few things in life that never fail to make me happy: good Asian food, sleep, my boyfriend, EDM... Well, most of those, I don't really get in Columbus, but I definitely get a lot of good EDM shows thanks to Bluestone! I've only been here twice so far (once for Madeon, and last night for Above&Beyond. Shameless plug - Above&Beyond is easily one of the best shows I have ever been to, and I don't even care that I was out until 2am on a Sunday night and had to be at school at 8am for class the next day), but I have left completely satisfied both times. From what I hear, Bluestone is actually a church during the day, but they do an amazing job transforming it into a rave scene at night. There's the general downstairs dance floor that can get packed pretty easily, but they also have an upstairs VIP area that's much less crowded and only $5-10 extra in ticket price! Under most circumstances, I'd say the general admission area is fine, although for big names (like Above&Beyond), it's totally worth the extra cost to get upstairs - the lower level was so filled that you couldn't dance without bumping into everyone next to you, and it definitely got a bit hard to breathe towards the end. I do like the venue size and speaker system here much better than at Sway, although Sway does win in terms of convenience of location (being right in the Short North area). However, the music just reverberates much more crisply, and they have a good bass such that they don't need to make up for power with volume. I often have issues with multi-day hearing deficiencies after spending a night at Sway, but haven't had that issue here! Plus, the dance floor is just bigger, so you're more likely to be able to find room to dance, but the venue is nevertheless small enough that you still get a really good view of the DJ and stage. I think Bluestone and I are going to become very well-acquainted with each other soon. They offer essentially everything I ask for in an EDM show, and at a very good price too! Beautiful but the main band sounded horrible. I would almost blame the venue because after talking to others for other concerts they had the same expierence. I have seen the band before and the opening bands sounded fine. But when the main band up the sound went way up. It was so loud for the main group (Dwight yoakam) it was painful and not as understandable. This needs addressed. read more

The Bluestone (or rather the building that houses The Bluestone) has a lot of untapped potential. Some of this is just out of the hands of the owners - for instance, the location for this style of venue is just awful. Nothing that stays open late surrounds The Bluestone and it's nearly impossible to rely on COTA to get you there after dark, let alone back home. You would think that The Bluestone would rope in people with a great parking option! But sadly, parking is expensive - expect to pay $5-$10 depending on the event. When this church was renovated to become a club/bar/venue - no less than 4 separate bar areas were built inside. All of them beautiful, all of them expensive. $7 for a Jack and Coke? I wanted to look classy and not strut around with a tall boy of PBR, but my pocketbook couldn't afford the drinks I wanted. But wait, you're going to charge me $5 for a tall boy of PBR? Well shit, guess I'm not drinking the rest of the night! I love the current exhibit of Rock Posters hung throughout this old church, and I would love to see The Bluestone venture out into the art world a bit more. Perhaps a quarterly art exhibit bringing in some big names from around the United States (or even go global)! You have the potential to become an alternative to the Wex - focusing on great art and great music. But right now you're just a sub-par music venue with pricey drinks. read more

The venue is extremely cool with the stain glass and woodwork. Not being from Columbus, I'm always nervous about parking. There's no worries about that here as they have a large lot right behind the building. The staff we interacted with were friendly. I didn't notice the drink prices as described by others as we only order one drink which was $5. I would definitely go to future events held at The Bluestone! read more

This place is seriously cool. As you can probably tell, it used to be a church. Which seems A BIT sacrilegious, but I still stand that it is seriously cool. Inside, the walls are covered with concert artwork, which is all for sale. One annoying factor is that they lack a water fountain, and won't give you free cups of water. But other than my dire thirst on account of not being willing to pay for anything to quench it, my experience there was good! I was there for a concert, and the sound was great and everything went smoothly. It was in the "sanctuary," and you could sit in the floor area, in the balcony, and in the bar area in the back. Overall it's just a really unique venue [even the bathrooms are cool], look at their events for something interesting and check it out! read more

What a great venue. I love re-purposed old buildings and this is a beautiful church redone into a beautiful venue. As I was talking to a friend, we both agreed that this place reminds of the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. I was here last night to see some friends play in a country band. Now, country music isn't really my thing, but. I hadn't seen the boys in awhile and I've never been here so it was a no-brainer. The place is beautiful. They've turned the sanctuary into a great performance space; there's ample bar space, seats scattered thoughtfully throughout the periphery of the space, and the sound system is high-quality. I got the opportunity to hang out with some of the staff after the show and they are just as awesome off-the-clock as they are on. Oh, and did you know it's haunted? Love me a good ghost story and we got an impromptu ghost tour last night. Fantastic! read more

I consider my first Bluestone foray a big success. There are multiple bars within this venue. Line really long at the one you opened your tab? Go to a different one! You can access your tab at any of the multiple (I counted at least three while I was there) bars no problem. The space is well set-up for lots of people, with its multiple floors and, yeah, I'm going to talk about it, the great bathroom situation. The catering is pretty ok. I mean, you're not coming here to eat anyway, you're coming here for an event or to drink. And I like that the multiple rooms also lend it to being a space for artists. I am by no means an expert on music venue space, but I kind of liked the acoustics in the place and there was plenty of room up front to dance party out . And I love a good dance party. Formerly BoMA, formerly a church, I have high hopes that Bluestone will be the best reincarnation of this space yet. read more

Good event space, plenty of room for large events. Catering service is good. Friendly staff. Biggest drawback is the lack of WiFi. The facility technically HAS secure WiFi, but it is difficult to even access the wireless signal from a smartphone. Strangely, it seems to be a black hole for 3G. Even with four or five bars, it is next to impossible for some strange reason to use any kind of social media apps a majority of the time. read more

Went to the Blustone for a show last night and I think it is a great venue. Not sure why some of the reviews complain about prices they seemed typical to me. $4 16oz beers is not uncommon for a venue in Columbus. Food prices were reasonable as well. I thought the staff was friendly and the place was clean. Unfortunately the show itself sucked! Matt Mason the opening act was very good!! Kasey James, the American Idol product was not good. Do not pay to see James. Matt Mason will be back at the Bluestone at the end of July and if you like country check him out!! read more

Great venue to see a show. The acoustics are really good and the place is open so you can see everything from just about any spot in the place. They host several events throughout the year and hold a "freakish" adult Halloween party every year that everyone should check out at least once. This year there was a 3 night party around Halloween and even though we missed it we heard it was "epic". read more

Old church converted to a concert venue. Stained glass intact. Amazing sound system. Really this place has amazing sound in every corner of the place. The balcony is one level so seeing the show from behind folks is tough. The thing I like about this place other than the top flight sound system is that it is also a concert venue you could bring mom and dad to. There are comfortable seats in the bar and along the edges of the venue, and some of the cleanest and newest bathrooms I have ever seen in a concert venue. Great venue for meeting the bands as we found out - even with all the girls waiting around sucking their thumbs (true story - there were a few girls doing this to get the band's attention - lol). read more

I was very excited to finally see this gorgeous place, but they completely oversold the Oliver Tree concert and did a truly terrible job. The line to get in was so long that we had to stand on the entrance ramp of the highway to wait, no staff was out there to monitor or control where the line was to keep patrons safe. Once we got in, we couldn't make it past two rows of people because it was so packed. They oversold the concert to the point that we were never even able to see the stage or the performers because of how many people were packed into one place. It was so tight that even if there were staff around to make sure everyone was safe (which of course there wasn't) they would never be able to get through. I don't think EMTs were even able to get though. There are plenty of standing room only venues in the Cincinnati area (Bogarts, Madison Theatre, 20th Century) that know how to sell tickets to fill the show but also know how to keep it fun for everyone attending (like... just being able to see the artist on stage that you paid money for) and safe, The Bluestone should really take a page out of their book. read more

I've been coming here for Trauma for five years, both as a performer and an attendee, and every fucking year Security and event staff make horrible, boneheaded mistakes. This year is the last straw: I don't care if Tupac, Hendrix, and Janis were playing a show here: I won't put up with this shit ever again. In years past when I've performed, I've had multiple problems with Security not letting me to my dressing room or performer bathrooms, despite having my performer wristband precisely displayed exactly where and how it should be. This year, I'm not performing, and all I did was pull out my phone to text the folks I'm designated driving for to find out where they are. I got accosted by some event staff in a yellow shirt to put my phone away. Well, guess what, assholes: I'm dumping these folks here for you to manage, and they're too drunk to call a cab, or even dial a phone. Good luck! read more

Very bad experience in this place , I went to see TIESTO at the Bluestone ,but what I saw it was a lot of people drunk and smoking marihuana!!! ,they didn't care to smoke that shit next to others! With all the police officers outside how is possible that inside the concert the young people where out of control!! We held our January 3, 2015 wedding at the Bluestone. We loved The Bluestone as soon as we visited the space. The traditional architecture, unique layout, and rock'n'roll vibe, was everything we wanted but didn't know how to put in words or even know was possible. We were able to arrive as early as we wanted the day of our wedding and get ready there or just hang out. Using the balcony for dinner seating, in addition to the main floor, means that there isn't a bad seat in the whole place and everyone can see all of the action from cake cutting to first dance without having to scurry around. The wedding coordinator, Sarah, is great to work with. She was prompt with communication and helped accommodate all of our requests. The rest of the staff was fantastic too! Everyone was so helpful, kind, and full of energy. We were so pleased that they took such great care of our guests and paid special attention to our parents. They even boxed up all of our gifts, decorations, and the lunch we had brought in at the end of the night. The Bluestone allowed us to come in on the next business day to pick everything up instead of making us rush around after our wedding trying to get everything out by midnight. The Bluestone provided all of the catering in-house, which made us concerned when we first booked because we hadn't tried the food yet, but in the end we had nothing to worry about. The menu had plenty of options and all of the food that we tried was great. When you see "chef's vegetable" you worry that you'll get some bland pile of carrots and green beans, but what that mean's at The Bluestone is that the chef will choose a vegetable selection that best compliments the menu you've picked. In our case we had beautifully roasted red peppers, grilled zucchinis and summer squash. So good! We can't be complimentary enough about The Bluestone! Peaches also played here, and there is a decent DJ once in a while, but other than that, this space could be put to better use than it is. Your security team member named Sean grabbed my husband by the back of the neck ripped his hoodie for sitting on the couch by the woman's restroom. Sean gave no warning. Just immediately handled the situation inappropriately. I also witnessed him push another man through the double doors and this man fell and they continued to hit him while on the ground. Then they closed the doors so no one else could witness the brutality taking place behind doors. I will peruse further action to see Sean fired if this does not get resolved. read more

I agree with some of the harsh comments on this page and wouldn't give this venue ANY stars. If you are a bride considering this venue for your upcoming wedding reception please read my review. If I can help another fellow bride from hassle, a few tears and a huge headache, then I'll be happy. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS WEDDING RECEPTION VENUE. After multiple attempts to simply reach the event coordinator, Sarah, I finally heard back from her. Probably because my last voice mail urgently said to please call me ASAP because we are very, very interested in your venue. That was a red flag right there and I think this seems to annoy most people, especially an excited bride & groom. Her boss Hanks response to this, "She's very busy." Aren't we all busy? Anyways, I had Sarah hold our desired wedding date and received confirmation via email from her stating she had this date on hold for us. Now what does a hold mean to most brides, heck most people!? A few days later, and less than 24 hours before we were scheduled to meet with her, I receive an email saying our date had BEEN GIVEN AWAY. A bride had walked in, given them a deposit and that was that. We were not taken into consideration, worth a phone call or even told of their so called "hold" policy. Every other venue in town will at least call you if someone shows interest in the date you hold and actually share the same meaning of "hold" . I had no way of knowing how their policy operated because I do not work at Bluestone nor were we ever informed of interested shown in our date. The manager Hanks response, " we have clients interested in every Saturday throughout the year." I don't know what that means or what it had to do with me, nor do I even believe that, but okay. Long story short, we were not given the whole story or information by Bluestone and foolishly thought they cared about us and our business. When speaking with Hank all he talked about was his 25 years in the business and other clients. Again, no concern or interest in me. Sarah did explain that this situation had never happened before, which I understood, but still wondered how they would handle it and make it right. No bride should have to experience this sort of hassle and flakiness. I have looked at venues in Columbus: The Westin, Franklin Conservatory, The Loft/Venue, The Boathouse, The Museum, The Vault, The Athletic Club, etc. and NONE of them operate their event business like the Bluestone. How could you? If it hasn't hurt you yet, well it will catch up with you eventually. Every other venue has responded quickly and professionally and have taken very good care of us and even held our desired date when they said they would. One venue even notified us when someone else showed interest in our date. People at these venues treated us the way they would of wanted to be treated. The Bluestone does not hold dates. They will tell you they do to give you piece of mind, but they don't. They know how to take a date, but they do not know how to hold it for you. When all was said and done, I was finally told how their policy broke down and that my hold was actually just a small note Sarah had made under the date. A note that was never read or given a second thought when the other bride pulled out her checkbook. If you are a bride excited for this process and your big day, I understand. I am in your shoes and share those feelings. Hence, why I don't want any other bride to deal with a venue that will rain on your parade and tamper with your special day. Please check out the other venues i mentioned above. They are all great and do a great job of taking care of YOU. I hope this helps! read more

We do not have enough good things to say about The Bluestone and their staff. Sarah Downs was absolutely wonderful to work with. From working with me very early on to keep our budget in mind, letting me come in the venue throughout our year leading up to the wedding with friends and family to take a look/discuss decorating ideas, answering alllll my questions honestly and promptly, giving me advice and recommendations, always being available... and going above and beyond on the wedding day. I had a lot of extra lace that we didn't have a chance to use with decorations. While I was busy with hair/makeup/photos and had completely moved on from any decorating, Sarah used that extra lace on our head table for the reception, on the buffet for dinner, and maybe other places... and reused our cocktail hour flowers...it pulled everything together even more beautifully than I had imagined. Plus, when I needed double-sided tape, Jess (another Bluestone planner) ran out to CVS and got it for me... literally within minutes. It's those "little" details that really set Sarah and The Bluestone apart. During the reception, one of the staff members really stood out - Debbie. She was so energetic, fun and helpful. The moment my hand didn't have a drink in it, Deb was bringing me (and all my family/bridal party!) a new one. She was so fun, and multiple people commented on her energy and speediness! The venue is breathtaking. It speaks for itself. The convenience of using the building all day was so nice. We could leisurely get ready, hang out, eat and drink. I was relaxed, comfortable, and completely trusted the staff to ensure everything was how we discussed. Our wedding was perfect - in large part due to The Bluestone, Sarah Downs and the rest of the staff. If you're looking for a wedding venue in Columbus (especially if you want ceremony/reception in the same venue), you should absolutely go with The Bluestone. read more

The service was friendly, but I really think the drink prices should be lowered- especially if a concert is going to be age 16+. The staff said we were not spending enough and threatened to put a tip on our card. We always tip 25%. I am a delivery driver. They are pretentious and undeserving of patronage. They threw my card, receipt, and pen at my 100 pound wife. We will not be returning. The sound quality was too loud and unclear for the low draw. This venue is bad. Me and a friend got there early to see GRiZ today. Waited for doors to open with our state IDs and we were still denied entry. Both of us are of the age (16+) but could not get in. WITH VALID ID. After this we couldn't get a refund and the venue security wouldn't let us sell the tickets for face value to another GRiZ fan in line. Very bad way to run a venue people.
