My husband and I generally like going to The Boathouse Landing but might have to rethink that in the future. I ordered one of the most expensive dishes on the menu $29.99 and he ordered a $15.99 coconut chicken salad along with two diet cokes. When we got the check they had calculated the check with a 20% service charge. We asked what it was and was told it was 16% for her and 4% for the kitchen. Nothing based on the service or how good the food was an automatic 20%. No warning at all! As they were seating, another customer that server said have you been to the boathouse before and the customer said yes. So she stated you are aware of the service charge then. The customer said yes. Maybe us saying something about it is why she said that, not sure, but we were never informed and we've never had that explained to us before either. read more

I really wish there was something good I could say about this place. Unfortunately, I got nothing. Went there for a second time in a long time, because the first time was not so great. NOTHING has changed. The food is just meh, bland!! The fish was over cooked and chewy, the vegetables that came with the entree were mushy. For $32 dollars the fillet of grouper I received was small, thin and as stated, over cooked. Did I mention the price? $32 for grouper with a little shredded crab meat on the top, vegetables and rice. 2 entrees, an appetizer, 1 mixed drink and 2 cans of beers. Yes cans. $130 dollars. They also charge an automatic "Service" charge of 20%. 16% goes to your server, and 4% goes to the kitchen. Sorry, tips are earned, they are not automatic. I generally do tip 18-20% anyway, but that is for me, the customer to decide, not the restaurant owner. I did find something good to say! Obviously, the location is nice and sitting on the deck is great. The hush puppies are also really good. But, outside of that. No thanks. Won't be back anytime soon, if ever. read more

Great local waterfront seafood restaurant... Tried TBL on a recommendation from the hotel staff... Great choice, as this place was awesome. It looks like an house when you pull-up, with an old school feel. TBL has a nice outdoor patio right on the water and had a constant breeze coming off the water. The service was excellent, the food came out fast and it was fresh and well-prepared. The only complaint is there's this weird 20% service fee that they add to your bill (something about covering servers/cooks gratuity, etc.)... Didn't really didn't understand that (thought that's what tips are for, but I digress), but this lil place was still good and worth a stop when in the Niceville area. read more

My daughter and I went for a Sunday brunch. The ambiance is nice enough and the waitstaff acted attentive but the food was subpar. If crab is one of their specialties, then why did the Lump Crabmeat taste shredded, like it was freeze-dried? The aftertaste was the kicker. Not super impressed. The best things we had were the sweet tea and the hush puppies. Everything else was mediocre. I had the blackened fish tacos. The wasabi aioli was basically just wasabi, and it was extremely overpowering. Ruined the tacos. The chips were very thick and hard to eat. My wife had surf and turf. The steak was okay, nothing to write home about, but the mahi was not good. No seasoning at all. The crab CAKE appetizer was 17$ and it's a SINGLE crab cake. It wasn't that flavorful. The service also had something to be desired. The gentleman that served us never told us his name, didn't welcome us, and wasn't personable. The setting wasn't very nice either, the tables were on the opposite side of the lights and the lights were really bright, meaning that when we were talking to our server, we couldn't really see his face. Overall I'd say 2.2 out of 5. Food was lacking, service was lacking, and so was the general layout. The prices were also pretty high. I cannot recommend this restaurant read more

Boom Boom Shrimp Tacos 9/10 Really good. The crisp stayed really well with the sauce. Good flavor on the boom boom sauce. Little bit spicy, maybe like medium. Blackened Fish Tacos 2/10 Fish was cooked good. The cucumber wasabi sauce was very overpowering and made the entire taco taste like wasabi, which tastes very much like a watery horseradish. Pretty cool little place. Service was excellent. The food isn't what I expected and in a good way. We started with the crab cake which had a Cajun twist, and it was good! I loved the flavor of the andouille sausage. We also had cheese curds which my toddler devoured. I got two and with ranch as well as the spicy ranch they came with they were great. I had the shrimp basket and fried and my wife had the mahi sandwich. She won. Both were great but that sandwich was just perfect. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because while the good was good, and the service was stellar. The building is dated, the bath rooms need some work, not gross, but falling apart. Parking was easy, but it was also not busy at all. I could see how during a rush that could be a trouble spot. All in all, I'd go back. Note: they do charge 20% for a service fee, but it's fair for the service we got and we added tip to sit because of how great they treated us. The people here really shine. Everything was tasty and arrived very quickly. The ambiance is good and the servers are very hospitable. My sole reservation is the insistence that they tack on an automatic 20% tip whether you're alone or in a group. I'm sure they invested a lot of time in training their servers to be professional, but demanding that tip ahead of time does not set a good mood. First time visiting the boathouse Landing. Upon arrival, I was seated outside as I requested overlooking the water. I was greeted by my server which advised me of their 20% gratuity before proceeding. She brought out some complementary hush puppies while I waited for a cup of bisque. I would have enjoyed had it been hotter in temperature. As for the fish sandwich, I think the owner needs to reevaluate the bread to fish ratio. The hush puppies might be the best ones I've had. I'm not one for sweet and savory but they paired this terrific strawberry butter with the hush puppies and it was delicious. My entree was the stuffed flounder and it was great, I enjoyed how they seasoned the flounder too compliment its taste and not over power the fish with a heavy seasoning. Waited 30 minutes from the time drink orders were taken until we were asked for appetizers. Dense but flavorful, just like the standard hush puppy. I thoroughly enjoyed the strawberry spread that comes with it. I'm a sucker for sweet & savory foods, and the spread wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. It definitely added something different, and I loved it! The coconut chicken salad was supposed to come with some nuts on it, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The orange vinaigrette was yummy and zesty. Paired pretty well with the chicken. The coconut chicken isn't very sweet. I think this salad is just missing some goat cheese to add some creaminess and balance the citrus from the vinaigrette and mandarin oranges. This was a lovely meal and perfect weather to enjoy it. The views were nice and the restaurant was quiet. An elderly couple sat next to me, and the waiter knew their regular order. My wife and I have visited The Boathouse Landing several times since we moved to Niceville two years ago. It's close to home and you don't have to deal with the tourist crowds down in Destin. We think the food is much, much better than any of the chain restaurants for sure. We've tried something different every time and have never been disappointed. The shrimp and grits are a favorite for sure! Not only is the food good, but the service is also! If you're confused about what to order, just ask. The restaurant is spacious and well kept. When you walk in there's always a warm greeting. The food is healthier comfort food than most in the area and they offer more than just seafood. This was a very disappointing experience. There was a roach crawling on the wall during our visit. Our server had to be reminded multiple times about simple needs such as refilling drinks, ketchup, etc. The food was cold and tasted like it had been sitting in the window a while before it was brought to the table. Sometimes I write long reviews but Im not in the mood tonight: Location on the water is very nice - scenic. Waitress was pleasant and friendly but " forgot" my drink order. Fried Calamari was over cooked and rubbery. Seafood platter was also overcooked. Menu says the platter contains scallops. They were small bay scallops, which I think is misleading. It should say bay scallops! Since they were small and the kitchen's oil is obviously too hot they were also rubbery and chewy. Shrimp were tasty. Soft shell crab was, you guessed it, overcooked! 3 small slivers of grouper.....and frozen fries......which were obviously cooked separately as they were not overcooked. There were some nice sounding dishes on the menu which I probably should have tried but I would not recommend their deep fried offerings. In all fairness, I should point out that I am from New England and perhaps there is a different regional style but overcooked calamari is a sin wherever you're from. read more

If I could give this place 6/5 stars I would. Food was phenomenal, staff was friendly and helpful, and go eat out on the back deck for a beautiful dinner on the water. My server (I can't remember her name but I believe her name started with an A) was so kind. She promptly got me my drink and made sure my glass was never empty. They brought these amazing hush puppies out as a complimentary appetizer right when I sat down, those alone are worth the visit. I then ordered the Boom Boom shrimp- completely my fault that I didn't specify the boom boom shrimp tacos... When my server brought it out and I asked a couple more questions she quickly figured out the miscommunication and fixed the issue. It didn't take long for them to bring out the tacos which were absolutely delicious. Another woman was helping check up on me and all the other customers- there was no shortage of great staff here! Before I even had a chance to look over the menu my server told me about how gratuity is included and I thought to myself "well I hope the service is worth it" and it definitely was. And the way she brought it up and explained it was very respectable as well. Plus the prices of the food are completely reasonable for seafood from what I saw. I have been to this restaurant several times, Gave them every chance. Thursday, sept 26 arrived with 7 others for dinner. Service started fine, food arrived and that was the last we saw of our server. I had the Grouper Pontchartrain, a 33.00 dish. Fish was small and very overcooked. dry and the hollandaise sauce on top was congealed and crusty. My husbands shrimp were so crispy they could of broke a tooth, then we are charged 20% tip on top of the bill. My guests did not complain, but mentioned how my scrambled eggs for breakfast were better than the meal at the restaurant. None of the guests felt the meal was worth anything and service was non existent. They did remove my order from my bill. As I had not touched it, short of one small bite to try it. I expected so much better. Lovely spot, but the food has definitely gone downhill. Do not believe I will be back and most certainly will not bring guests along. We had to find our waitress long after we finished just to get the bill! What a shame! read more

Cute little place on the water with excellent food. Loved the fried scallops dipped in melted butter. The whipped roasted red potatoes were really tasty. Huge portions that none of us could finish.
