Delicious!!! Fresh everything!!! The green beans are made with turkey necks for a true Southern taste. The hush puppies had corn and bits of onion in them. The fresh mahi-mahi was grilled and delicate on my palette. I opted for no seasonings as, I enjoy the taste. You walk into the store or drive thru. Convenient! People are pleasant and friendly. After a horrible travel day and my first visit to Fort Walton Beach, Stewby's was exactly what I needed. Huge shoutout to Morgan, who was an absolute superstar and helped guide me through the menu with amazing recommendations and great service. The grilled grouper and grilled amberjack were phenomenal, the cheesy grits and green beans with smoked turkey were incredible, and the seafood gumbo was divine. This was suggested to us by a local while visiting the area for a few days. We had a taste for seafood and stopped by here after the beach. It was a little a crowd in there so the place must be good. I did the catfish sandwich which came with coleslaw on it and a side of fries. Wait wasn't long at all. The fish was hot and good , so was the fries. The hard part was just keeping the fish on the sandwich it was falling apart as I ate . So probably a different choice of bread would've been better. Stewby's, Tried the Mahi mahi and grouper dinners, both ordered sauteed were seasoned well with good portions but slightly overcooked and dry. Sides excelled (collards best, crisp seasoned fries, creamy cheese grits). Gumbo chunky but under seasoned in my personal opinion. Would recommends for fresh, affordable no frills seafood. read more

We previously had great experiences at the Shanty. But today not so much. We had the combo platter with grilled grouper and grilled shrimp. Grouper was very small piece compared to what we have gotten at other restaurants it wasn't even really big enough to share. The shrimp were rubbery. I have been eating at this Stewby's since it opened too many years ago. To me this is the only place for just good seafood! This visit I got their fried oyster sandwich and fries, perfect amount of breading, fried perfectly with fries. My friend got the fried shrimp dinner, so many shrimp with hush puppies and two sides. She was lovely, sharing because there were so many! My only complain, I need one closer to Niceville! read more

Really great grilled fish and shrimp. I went with some friends from out of town and we each tried something different. The Cole slaw was amazing and exactly how I like it, creamy with a touch of sweet. The green beans were full of meat, slightly spicy and full of flavor. The collard greens were some of the best tasting collards I've ever had, and I grew up eating them all the time. The fish (amberjack) was grilled to perfection, moist, tender and delicious. This was a major bummer. We got here around dinner time, and there was about a 45 minute wait. Which I'm fine waiting for some awesome food. Not the case. We made it to the register and I asked what the cashier liked the best to which they replied that they didn't eat seafood. Very pleasant staff though. The food came out quick. It was quickly a huge disappointment. I ordered fried crab claws, the claws are small. There was so much bland batter coating them and that is all you can taste. I only ate a couple then threw them out. I got cheese grits as one side and they were extremely bland. A little bit of chicken bullion would go a long way. The potato salad tasted like fish and not in a good way. In my first bite of gumbo I got a mouthful of overripe okra, it took me several minutes to try and break down that fibrous piece. There was one piece of shrimp and all I could taste was tomato. We got fried grouper and it was the most palatable out of everything but it was extremely greasy. The French fries were nothing special, the onion rings were floppy and greasy. The smoked fish dip tasted like tuna salad, and all they give you with it is saltine crackers. To finish it all off we got banana pudding, which tasted like boxed instant pudding with nilla wafers. Not bad but nothing special. The ambiance is awesome, the outdoor seating is great. Minus the cornhole they have set up in the walkway between 4-6 tables where people are perilously throwing bags next to your dinner. read more

I have written several reviews over the years praising Stewbys, but my last visit was so disappointing. Having feasted on an abundance of gulf seafood while wintering in Destin, I was craving something a bit different. I noticed Stewbys had catfish on their menu so having caught and devoured hundreds of them in the Midwest I was interested in their catfish platter. Not wanting to dine on something raised in a polluted Asian pond, I asked the source. The order taker didn't know, neither did the helper behind her, nor the girl next to her but the fourth girl to her left authoritatively replied "Alaska". I knew there were no warm water catfish like I desired in Alaska, but ordered anyway...probably my first regret. When I paid at the window, I could not help but notice a bold request for a tip, even though my order was placed by me at the window, and I was expected to personally retrieve my order when my number was called. Even though there was no "service" I left a tip, hoping that my tip and others could be used by the employees to further their study of geography. The catfish platter consisted of several filets, averaging 1/4 inch thick fish, with well done breading/batter on either side. It came with a small piece of lemon, no bigger than the tip of my little finger, that yielded 4 drops of juice. It could have been no bigger than 1/50 of a lemon. I was also given a tiny, half-dollar size cup of bland tarter sauce that was not 3/8 inches deep. The tarter sauce tasted and appeared as if mayonnaise was the sole ingredient, but I later did find 3 or 4 tiny flecks of what may have been part of the skin of a pickle. I truly hope this seafood restaurant, one of my all-time favorites, can get its act together. I won't give up just yet, but if they continue to put out meals like I described, it may not be in business when I return to Destin next winter. It breaks my heart to see it skimp on things that provided such a wonderful experience before. read more

From the outside it did not have a restaurant look and the location we went to was tucked away on another part of town.. We did not realize they had 2 locations.. The food though was yummy.. The fried/grilled shrimp was the best grilled shrimp I have had in restaurants.. The key lime pie was also freshly made and yummy.. Quantities also were pretty good.. The shrimp were big.. Second time going and I am still less than blown away. The concept is casual seafood and they were steadily busy at lunchtime. Ordered grilled mahi mahi plate with beans, fries and hush puppies - all good but not memorable. The gumbo was tasty and shrimp plump I could have done with the rice on the side. The side salad was blasé. Banana pudding was a big let down with the artificial banana taste and mushy, dark banana slices.
