Epic used book store! What a delight to walk in to the first words of Happy Potter blown up to an inviting entrance. I pored over the classic section nooks and left with Jane Eyre, Keats poetry, and vintage Shakespeare. I was blown away by the organization, by genre, sorted by author name. This is the coolest little bookstore I been to, they have a huge selection of books, section into categories of course, can be a lot but the staff is super friendly, helpful and knowledgable. The Book Cellar is magical! It is like a set from Harry Potter. Beautiful mahogany book shelfs, books are categorized by subject. In each book isle is a velvet ornate reading chair. The store has an outstanding selection of previously owned books from various sources - selected by Debby the owner, who has curated an outstanding variety of books for the last 19 years. She knows all subject matter and will discuss the book and the author. Books are hung from the ceiling by filaments. It even has a dragon skeleton in the store and one outside the entrance. Great place to find used books and now they carry some new highly anticipated books as well! I'm always blown by how inexpensive they are too. If I'm in a lot of chronic pain I'll call ahead to make sure they have the title I need before stopping by and they are always so helpful and even set it aside for me for a quick pickup. There are comfortable vintage chairs and benches throughout so you can sit and look at a book. I have also found great gifts such as candles, bookmarks, etc. and everyone always wants to know where I found such great book themed gifts. I highly recommend people visit. Especially when the store owner decorates the store in theme because she goes ALL out for Halloween and Christmas. read more

I stumbled upon this magical spot while looking for a used book store. Upon walking through the Harry Potter entrance, I was momentarily transported to a book store on Diagon Alley, where shelves are filled with magical books, candles and teas. I was given a tour of the store and then perused the shelves for a while before making my final selection. The store smells of old pages, candles, and magic and the tufted velvet seats lend themselves to taking a minute to read the synopsis of the book, or check Good Reads to help finalize a selection. I have visited this book store on several occasions looking for books to take home and cozy up with once the colder months arrive here in California. The ambiance in this store has been this locations Niche. It reminds me of the library's one would find in the 1994 Film The Pagemaster or maybe a book store found in Diagon Alley. Books tightly pack the shelves and all in alphabetical order waiting for you to find and excitedly add to your pile.It is a wonderful example of a fictional cozy library! Thus comes the draw backs and things you must BEWARE of before your first visit. 1) CASH ONLY . No plastic or Digital payment methods here which makes shopping here a bit inconvenient. Several patrons had to set there books aside to go and look for an ATM including myself on my 1st visit. Cash only Bookworms which brings me to my next yelp. 2) HALF OFF USED BOOKS........(sometimes?) The signs all over say Half off Cover Price or listed price. They have a very COMPLICATED pricing system here. Books are not necessarily half off. And books that are, have to be over a certain amount say $5 to be half off. And books that are a popular genre say (Science-fiction) do not qualify for this discount. So watch your totals in your book piles and make sure you have brought enough cash to pay for your purchase. (Example) No listed price on title page and no blacked out MSRP price, doesn't mean it qualifies as half off. It's genre and popularity determines the price you pay. 3) They Use Sharpies on their books. If you are hoping to find certain condition book you might not find it with out finding indelible ink written across the original MSRP of the book when it was first published. Which can put off some. 4) EXPENSIVE this book store has a fantastic selection of books but they ask full market prices found online when taken in. This makes finding a deal difficult here. Especially when you pick up a book that is hard to find but priced at $90 does not mean it's $45. They write on the title page in pencil their prices. 5) Accessibility Issues for some with Physical Disabilities This place is not Recommended those who are claustrophobic or with immobility issues. Books are organized, but they do overflow in to the isles sometimes. Also someone who is restricted to a Wheelchair or power chair should not try to visit this store it is to tight and not enough room to turn around. You need to be able to twist, stoop and bend down sideways to visit this store. Many appreciate the seasonal decorations displayed here and they only make getting around in the store more difficult. Otherwise the owner is very nice and the store is always clean. They pride themselves on their establishment and they try to only sell Very Good or near perfect books to stalk their shelves. Whimsical...magical...all kinds of cool. We came in with a hefty list of books not knowing if we'd be fortunate to find any. Long story short, we walked out with 20+ of the books we were looking for. All of them are widely loved, must-have titles at more than half off the cover price. We loved how charming this little place was too! Cute little book store with lots of selection! The books are organized by theme/subject which is helpful and the owner of the store is there to help you find specific titles and recommend books. I didn't give 5 stars because they are CASH ONLY- which, as a first time customer you're screwed if you didn't bring cash. Its also very obvious that the owner needs help because she seems stressed every time someone brings in books to sell. If an appointment needs to be made for books to be brought in and sorted through, then I feel like there should be a sign (which I didn't see). Otherwise, customers should feel like they can freely bring books in and there will be someone glad to help and available to sort through them. read more

This is a local business and my experience I just had! I would suggest everyone go in at least once and check it out super cute book store right here in our little town. Just had the most AMAZING experience at THE BOOK CELLAR!! Took my two young girls in to pick out a new book each, with their new books in hand we went to the counter to pay and that's when I noticed they do not accept credit or debit cards. As I'm telling my girls we will come back later to get them the owner told me they will not have them leave empty handed so it's on the house! Such a sweet lady and business owner her kindness is unheard of these days! This is the place to go when searching for a book. If you're an adult, you will enjoy the quantity of books and genres. I thought the prices were a little high for used books which was half of the original price. They have a welcoming section for children's books but they are not child-friendly. The children who were in the store at the time were not running around or mistreating the merchandise, but the owner (I believe it was) followed them around and nagged them. If you have interesting things within the reach of young children, expect them to touch them. Just hang the items higher! This was not my first visit and I have found it the same. read more

My friend, Sara, brought me to this little piece of Heaven on Earth last week. For me, books are the companions that envelope me in warm embrace, whether I have 10 minutes or hours to give to them; I feel safe within the pages of stories. To have been given the gift of this shop, it was something akin to Beast giving Belle his library. The first person I met was Izzie, the owner's daughter, a wonderfully cheerful girl who welcomed me to the store. The owner, Debbie, pointed me toward the Biography section and asked if I wanted some tea. I declined for the moment because I was waiting on a friend and I was overwhelmed with happiness at being in the middle of this nirvana, I didn't think I could steady a cup of tea as well. When Sara arrived we accepted a cup of freshly brewed cinnamon tea and a cookie, all served on the most delicate and beautiful tea and saucer sets imaginable. We could have stayed in this shop all day long. Debbie took us on a tour of the Book Cellar, making sure we stopped and had a chance to be delighted by the fantastical door that played music upon the turning and winding of the handle; this door was straight out of A Secret Garden. Debbie was a kindred spirit and encouraged us to enjoy the tomes. I found it particularly difficult to go into the section that had beautifully bound, old, books because it seemed so sacred, but Sara was brave and was rewarded by finding the most delectable set of Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass, tied in delicate, gold ribbon. We imagined the lives these books must have had before finding themselves residing on the shelves of The Book Cellar and it was delicious for the imagination we share. We were also offered the opportunity to invite some of our friends to the store with us where Debbie would serve us tea and finger sandwiches (at no extra charge) and I am quite honestly considering having my birthday gathering here just because it makes me so DARN HAPPY to be in this space. :) Thank you Book Cellar! read more

The staff are very friendly and very knowledgeable. We walked in and were given a tour of the shop, which was doubly fun because it was also decorated for Halloween. We really had a great time browsing the books and chatting with the couple who worked there. The prices are very good, but be aware that it's a cash only establishment. AMAZING!!! My 7yr old niece hoped for a couple of new books to start the school year off right. At first, I was going to take her to a chain book store but then decided to look up on Yelp for a local book store. BEST idea ever!! As soon as we walked in, we were both mesmerized!! What a fantastic little find. She had an armful of books she just fell in love with and the prices were really great. We would have even bought more but they didn't take debit or credit cards and I was limited on cash. I'm hoping that's not a regular thing because I'm certain they'd have more sales if cards were accepted.
