I recently moved to Bellingham and Village Books (and paper dreams) actually really swayed me to move here. Its a book palace, 3 stories of well organized selection. The front facing books are well chosen, and the used books are interspersed with the new books. There are quite a few staff picks sections, all of which are super interesting and worth looking over. Three days before Christmas 2025 I was there trying to pick out a horror book for a friend of mine. Horror is not my genre (more of a fantasy and literature gal myself), so I for sure needed guidance. The shop lady spent so much time reviewing the whole horror section with me . When we couldn't find the main book we decided on me buying, she spent the time looking everywhere for it. She enlisted the help of two additional staff members. When she was needed for another task, she made sure one of the other shop ladies had me covered. I ended up ordering the book, which came in a few days and they texted me when it arrived. Easy peasy! I will never forget that experince, especially as the store was jam packed with x-mas shoppers. Village books in fairhaven is the spot! My only note is that their bookclubs could be better. The bookclubs are during the day and don't have different genre selections (they are mostly nonfiction). There is a silent reading bookclub that I might try. They could be cultivating different types of communities (ie book clubs geared towards romantasy, sci-fi, literature, etc.), but maybe that will come with time.

Yes, Eclipse Bookstore is exactly where I want to be. We meant to visit Fairhaven because we had heard so much rave for Village Books, but coming to this place first spoiled it. I mean, I hate to say it, but there's something very special about Eclipse Bookstore that a Village Books or any other larger bookstore lacks. I think it's the lone man as the owner, doing everything, from accepting the used books, to pricing, to stacking, to ringing up people, to posting public hearings about land use development in the surrounding area on the bookstore windows, etc. I love it all. Depending on what you're looking for, they may or may not have it. But they have a lot that is completely unexpected yet something you'll desire. The used books are worth going through, and the rare collection was worth a gander with prices that are steeper but when will you ever find a first edition of Jane Austen's book about etiquette? If I lived in the area, I would be a regular. I was told to only buy two books from here, which was a challenge. But challenge accepted! I left home with two books (and another for a gift for my friend). Whenever I'm back in the area, I'll get lost here.

A bookstore like no other I have seen in years. With so many offerings, and well-organized. The books priced at $2 /book!! And the salespeople so friendly, and helpful We made several visits during our stay, and caught a good number of titles to bring home with us - mostly for Mom, the most avid reader.

This has been my favorite bookstore since I was a little kid. The store is always clean, always well organized, and it feels like I stepped into another home of mine. The mood and atmosphere are amazing, from classical music playing over the speakers, to the staff recommendation shelves, to the cute and quirky display windows. No matter where you wander in the store there is always something to inspire or entice you. The staff are friendly and helpful, and they always go that extra mile for you, no matter whether you're a regular or there for the first time. And the best part is that the people who run this store get how really SACRED books are to book-lovers, they do their best to make sure that you experience this store as a place of refuge, inspiration, and wonder. You never know what you will find when you walk through the doors, this much has always been true. read more

The Bookman is always my first stop when I'm looking for a new book. It has a huge stock, but it's also very organized and tidy. The staff are helpful and knowledgable. The atmosphere is welcoming and soothing, but it's still cute and quirky at the same time. But the best thing about The Bookman is the "bookman" himself. He gives amazing recommendations and even with the vaguest information can figure out what book you're looking for. Everything about this store is fantastic and after being a customer here for over 10 years I would never shop for a book anywhere else. I had some purchasing thoughts in mind with this visit to the gallery -- gifts were to be for daughter and myself -- not to be Christmas gifts, but more like lasting remembrances of this pre-winter, and pre-holidays stay. I had taken care of Mom's gift earlier that day. When I saw what I thought each of us would like, daughter was asked to "leave", and purchases arranged -- then I caught up with her for more walkabout, and dropped back later for pick up. Everything, including the earlier purchase, was kept under wraps and hidden from any peaks during the rest of our stay. My purchases: - for daughter: 'Crystalline Glazed Porcelain Vase' - by Holly McKeen, Studio Potter, at Greendale Pottery, Chilliwack, BC. - for me: 'Blown Glass Figurine - Polar Bear' - by Daniel Vargas, Maestro glass blower, at Arte Vargas studio/gallery, Maple Ridge, BC. A most-enjoyable visit to CanWest Gallery -- with some lovely purchases, to-be lasting-memories of our stay, coming home with us.
