The atmosphere is what I like the most. The hospitality is next level. The staff is so kind and helpful. The best way I can describe the environment is piece. I'm contrast to other environments that feel tense. Even when the store is full of people is a sense of piece. It's somewhat of a spiritual experience. The prices are reasonable for what you'll find. For example, the same hats in the Old San Juan district were $24.99, but at this shop they were $14.99, and at the airport they were $29.99. Magnets were $12 for 4 or $12 for 3, depending on the type you wanted. I saw magnets in Old San Juan for $6.99-$7.99 each and at the airport for $8.99-$9.99 each. The bottom line is that most everything is made in China, Thailand, or elsewhere, not in Puerto Rico, so does it really matter which store or where you got it? No, not really. On a side note, it's lame to give a business one or two star because their hours aren't updated on some random webpage that isn't associated with the business. Do better, Yelpers.

The colorful ornaments from an artist named Susana López Castells caught my attention. I couldn't pass up the image of Calle de la Fortaleza in Old San Juan adorned with hanging umbrellas. It has both the Puerto Rican and American flag in the image which is exactly what I wanted. I kind of wish I had bought a tile or a magnet to go with it. The prices are definitely higher at the airport, but the service was very good. She wrapped up the ornament very well without me even asking. I'd return for more souvenirs. There's a huge variety of items including candies and snacks to take with you on the plane. Check it out when flying in or out of SJU.

This spot is right on the corner of an intersection near the church & tour guide map in downtown Old San Juan. They've got a big chair with the country flag painted on it that all tourists stop to take a photo sitting in. They've also got all kinds of souvenirs, magnets, stickers, trinkets, even drink cousies where they'll give you a beer if you buy one. Stop in here and grab some things while in area.

I've called and visited so many libraries in PR I have lost count. During this past week I decided to go to Rio Piedras, "barrio" in San Juan, Puerto Rico's capital, where a lot of libraries surround one of the University of Puerto Rico. After going to 4 different libraries, I ran into this one. Little did I know I had found a gem in the middle of Río Piedras... One of the employees there took me to the second floor, where old, vintage and classic books are hidden from the public eye. Several first editions. This librarian took me on "a trip" down Puerto Rico's most interesting stories... after an hour or so I left the store with around 7 books based on the topic I have been looking for and every book ranged from $5-15. I took 7 books for little over $70.00 and when I reached for a CD of Puertorrican traditional songs, the librarian gave me the cd for free. This place is the best! They have from the newest to the oldest books! Do NOT hesitate to visit it if you love books.
