I've been here a couple of times for their craft and artisan food fairs, and it's a really cool space! The building was a printing press back in the day, so it's a bit of a maze but that's part of the charm. I've discovered some amazing local businesses. I recently went to their February artisan food fairs, and bought some delicious food products. They had a variety of food vendors: hot sauces, honey, dips, cookies, teas, and more. As for the craft fairs, respect jewelry, candles, cutting boards, and even a few food vendors. That's where I discovered Apisol, a woman-owned company based in the Peninsula that makes delicious sparkling honey beverages. Don't miss the vintage store on the first floor, which has really unique vintage products like postcards, buttons, posters, and more. There are so many fairs in the city, but the vendors here are ones that I haven't seen anywhere else. So check out their insta or their website for dates to their upcoming fairs. read more

Check the website for The BoxSf Eat me artisan Food Fest for current schedule which weekend they have this. I never heard of this place until a fellow Yelper brought this up to me and I said SFBox? I never heard or been in this location before and I am sure most of you never heard of this place either unless you search for history of the William Randolph Hearst printing press building so many years ago. The building was built in 1926 as a printing plant for the San Francisco Examiner. It is a nice mixed use building like a nice cozy maze to explore the nice layout and architecture of the old print shop. So upstairs about 2 floors and vendors are scattered so it's like a hunt for them, almost like a needle in haystack. Lol Well it's not that hard as you won't miss anyone. Too floor that where you will satisfy your sweet tooth . Yummy. The vendors that were there were a nice mix from tea, cheese, spices, India coffee , Turkish spreads, ice cream, giant cookies, healthy drinks, spreads, and I am sure you will find something you will enjoy. I don't normally buy stuff, but the honey , red beet, 2004 sweet land Bingdao $95 brick tea that is aged 21 years that can make 175 tea servings for $95, Il Fiorello basalmic vinegar was thick and smooth great texture and syrupy taste very captivating and Taste of Levant tahini and their chocolate jar of molasses was excellent and I had to buy them. Yummy in my tummy! Not sure if same vendors will be there again, so catch them the at your farmers market, festivals or next Eats event! read more

Today I had the pleasure to visit The Box SF , I love this place ! Is curated like a museum - filled with wonderful things ! I felt like I was in OZ , I like how everything was carefully displayed inside beautiful antique cabinets and thru out the store , the collection is impressive and extensive - so be ready for a treat ! We booked The Box SF during a busy conference week for a series of offsite interviews and meetings, held over two days. Having managed small- to large-scale events, I've had my fair share of horror stories when it comes to venue logistics.  The staff at The Box SF have set an impossibly high bar: they were so accommodating, responsive, and flexible. No nickel-and-diming, no hidden fees or confusing contracts. They were invested in ensuring we had a successful event, and their bedside manner was top-notch. The venue itself is amazing. Even in its natural state, it's very turnkey! It doesn't take much for the space to feel lived-in and ready for your event. Every guest remarked on how special and interesting the space was, and some even stayed a little while longer to check out the mercantile downstairs. The collection of antique ephemera in the shop is incredible--a true collector's playground. Everything is for sale, and the staff are so knowledgeable. I picked up a few gifts for friends that are truly one-of-a-kind. I cannot recommend The Box SF enough as both a venue and a point of interest if you're in the area. I don't know if the Box SF space is more antique than hip, or more hip than antique. In any case, the venue has an atmosphere that's realy interesting, and unlike bland hotel meeting rooms. The Box. Oh, The Box! Beginning with the understated and ULTRA HIPSTER simplistic metal BOX sticking out of the building above your door. I love it! So clever! It's like Where's Waldo on Howard. While I stood outside the doorsteps I just KNEW that when the door finally opened it was going to OOZE awesomeness. ...The hardwood staircase up to the loft with just enough lighting to set the mood as you make your entrance. ... The GIGANTIC (reclaimed wood?) Board Room table lined with gorgeous chairs in a room filled with natural light from the stunning city of San Francisco. ... The decor is very rustic and hipster chic. The track lighting along the beams above offer the option to customize your lighting. So many windows and the space is wide open which gives you so much freedom to work with the dreams for your event. **Just add music and flowers and VOILA! ... The owner and staff are exceptional! I had the chance to have several encounters with them while I was there for a networking event. You can tell that they genuinely care about your experience in that space and will go the extra mile to ensure you have a successful event. ... PARKING is a BREEZE! oh yes. I said it! When can you say that about a venue in SF if it isn't a hotel or restaurant with Valet? never. The space is just a couple blocks from Moscone and just far enough away from the hustle & bustle to offer up an obscene amount of metered parking and a $10 Daily lot only a block away! It's FABULOUS! Book it & Enjoy! Oh! One more thing... I should mention that there is a tiny corner chipped off one of my 5 stars for the fact that the doors are locked before the event starts and therefore creates a little panic when you realize you are in an oddly lonely and slightly sketchy area with nowhere local to have a drink and wait with exception of the market on the corner. Luckily the owner of the cute little shop was there and more than fabulously willing to let me loiter while I enjoyed a bottled Iced Tea... But that's another review! =) read more

I planned a last minute employee appreciation event at this facility. Despite my being last minute, they responded amazingly well. They were able to pull together food and an open bar at the last minute. The food was great and the staff was incredibly accommodating. My team had an amazing time!! TIME TRAVEL SOUTH OF MARKET What is it about places that hold a thousand odd treasures? This Box SF has to be the living incarnation of Charles Dickens "The Old Curiosity Shop". It compounds the mystery of why so many curious and beautiful artifacts ended up in this cool emporium below the old newspaper press rooms of San Francisco. Was the owner mad with collecting? Was he an addict of lost art and deft crafting? How could he have traveled so many dusty trails to so many far flung places to return with the kind of memorabilia that just makes you grin and want to eat ice cream. We organized a company evening event at the Box SF and had an absolutely fantastic experience. First, the venue is beautiful - the historical building, the furniture, the big windows, it all contributes to give the place incredible cachet and a sense of exclusivity. Definitely not your average corporate venue with plastic chairs and white boards! Second, the organization was impeccable. Kelsey was incredibly helpful all throughout the process, and immediately understood the type of event we wanted to organize, skillfully working with our budget to ensure we were getting exactly what we needed. Thirdly, we were really happy with the food and drink service that the Box recommended. Just the right amount of food and wine to entertain the right level of conversation, prepared in a spectacular display. My wife and I hosted our wedding reception at the top floor of The Box SF, and had a wonderful experience! The space is beautiful and unique and we and our guests loved it. Staff during the event was very professional and courteous, and the event coordinators were stellar before during and after the event. The Box SF has a list of caterers they recommend and prefer, which made our selection process much easier (and the food was wonderful!) We elected to include the speakeasy tour as part of our reception and Mark led wonderful tours for all of the guests, it was a highlight of the event. We live in San Francisco and were dead set on showing our city off to our wedding guests (many from out of town). That said, we needed a place to have a wedding in San Francisco. Easier said, than done. For anyone who has tried to book a reception space in the city, you're familiar with standard wedding markups, competitive scheduling, and restrictions on vendors and catering options at venues you might actually like. We needed to stick to a budget and, feeling defeated, we finally decided to Google "cheap wedding venue San Francisco." Thankfully, The Box SF was the first result (organic, not paid). When we saw the venue space and met with Alex, we were excited. We got a deal and the venue was far from "cheap" feeling. We wrote a check for the deposit the next day. We're so glad we did, as our guests had a fabulous time and loved the uniqueness of the space. The venue doesn't need much decoration, but Alex allowed us to personalize the space for the event and it looked amazing. The space is intimate and perfect for 80-100 people. The best part of their approach, other than being laid-back, is their openness to working with vendors to make events happen; there was no pre-set list of "approved" vendors limiting our ability to achieve our vision and aesthetic for the event. Also, they run their own bar service and they worked with us to provide a cost-effective, premium bar (beers: Anchor Small Beer, Anchor Steam, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Fuller's ESB, Trumer Pils, Deschutes Black Butte Porter -- awesome). We would LOVE to have another event to justify renting The Box SF again...maybe New Year's for 70 of our friends? read more

One of my good friends asked me to help her with her wedding reception. I found BoxSF and it was a done deal. Alex and Michaela were great to work with from day 1. Given that I am in the events industry, I have certain expectations, and theBoxSF met all of them. quickly response time and true friendly customer service. On the day of Micheala was willing to jump in and help out. We easily fit a DJ table, 8 cocktail tables, and 4 standing cocktail tables in the main room with about 65 people. We were expecting 85 and hade the room with the long table available but no one ended up in there. The BoxSF has a list of recommend caterers but you are free to use who you want and they have a prep kitchen with an oven. They have an exclusive deal on the beverage service and that has to go through the BoxSF. read more

We had our wedding at The Box SF two weeks ago, and it was simply an amazing venue. My best description of the site is that it's a canvas for a creative team to paint the perfect event backdrop onto; the space is very flexible and with the right vision, I believe you could make it into any kind of space you wanted. We had a smaller, intimate wedding, and the flow of the ceremony & reception fit in perfectly with the space: we had the ceremony in the main room, dinner in the separate space w/ the awesome table, then moved back into the main space for drinks and dancing. Pictures were all taken on site (which we just got to see this weekend!), and we loved the local color that we got from our outdoor pictures, and the lighting inside was also great for the inside shots. Humble, intimate & classy. That's the 3 adjectives that I'd use for this amazing space! Can't recommend it more highly! read more

When our guest count dropped suddenly my client wanted to choose another venue for her husband's 40th birthday, and The Box delivered immediately. In particular, Leslie Smith was outstanding in her customer service and swift receptiveness. We came in right away for a site visit and she was provided estimate, revisions and a contract quickly. In the end, the clients were super happy, the venue was the exact right fit for a speakeasy theme and Leslie and her staff were top notch--even on hand to help with the setup and well through until the end of the evening. Holiday party or small intimate wedding... you can't go wrong with The Box SF. Danielle is super duper easy to work with. When planning a holiday party for the last company I worked with, we definitely considered The Box SF but unfortunately they didn't have the date we needed. Good venue for a small party of healthy, able bodied adults who will take turns talking. After one hour in the venue, I couldn't hear the person next to me and I was loosing my voice from yelling. Not a good venue for anyone who cannot manage a very step set of stairs, or for large events where people will want to talk and mingle. Let's start with the plus side first: Well done minimalist decor Easy to clean concrete floors Access to stove & refrigerator Second floor converted loft feeling with windows for air (but no view really) Large rectangular table with seating for about 20+ Clean bathrooms, 2 of them. Large for wheel chair access but don't remember if they have hand railings. On the negative side: Very steep flight of stairs (2 sets) No handicap access. I did ask about it and she said freight elevator in back alley but only for caterers use and she was unwilling to show it to me. Parking on street in rough neighborhood (get their early and you can park in front like I did) Awful acoustics with concrete floor, open ceiling and nothing to soften the sound. The sound could probably be fixed by adding a lot of baffling in the ceiling and/or padding the walls. Owners could also publish the use of the freight elevator IF it has close parking in the back. If I were with children, elderly, or disabled I'd stay clear of The Box. read more

This is a great space for an event! Classy and modern with well thought out interior design. Most importantly, the service is wonderful. The staff is professional and friendly, and they really make all guests feel welcome. The Box is separated into an open area that fits about 150 people and a side room that can seat 40-50 people. Overall it's just a super flexible space that can be crafted to your event tastes. Oh and did I mention the owner of The Box? Mark Sackett is a cool guy!
