He expects excellence at the gym and out of the gym - for example, one child had a bad behavior report from school and he was given a writing assignment by Coach Jones to hand in during next class (300 lines! A great learning lesson). He provides these kids life skills on how to be a responsible adult in life. For example, the boys had homework to go home and learn to tie a necktie. Another time, they had to all write a paragraph about why they love their parents and had to read it in front of the class because Coach Jones said public speaking is a very important skill for a leader. I love his style and commitment to building strong and capable adults. Highly recommend!

The class is free for women to attend and only $10 for men who's like to attend. This gym offers all different kinds of classes for boxing, aikido, Muay Thai, and tai chi. The professors/senseis team up The first or second Saturday of the month to teach a self-defense class for women. The class is usually from 1 PM to 3 PM and consist of maneuvers and strikes. They are very informative and very patient when teaching. They don't mind going over the techniques over and over again until you are sure you get it right. You definitely feel like you were in a safe space with people who truly care about you, trying to teach you. They check in with the students to make sure that nobody is uncomfortable especially for those who have suffered an attack before. I can't say enough good things about this particular class. The only reason I have not signed up for one of their aikido classes is because the schedule doesn't work for me. You can follow them on Facebook to learn about their lady safe events, give it a shot and that will help you determine if you would like to continue coming to this gym for other classes.

I started Muay Thai a couple of months ago and the training is impeccable. Learning from the ground up I have learned so much in two months. As much as I have always wanted to learn martial arts, I have always had a love for weight lifting and this place is perfect for that as well with a free weight room and many powerlifting amenities!! The best of both worlds, a great place to sweat, work hard on yourself, and learn about the arts. This place feels super intimate and you start feeling welcomed and comfortable after a few weeks. It's like a 2nd home for me :)

It's not fancy, there are no fad fitness classes, and there's no fluff. But if you want to become a real "Stick and Move" style boxer, call Coach Joe. Even if you decide not to become a competitive boxer, you'll still be guaranteed an exhaustive workout. Don't let "competitive boxing" intimidate you. If you don't wish to compete, you can train for years and years without ever stepping into the ring with an opponent. Jump rope, heavy bag, mitt work -- all great exercises, whether you choose to compete or not. Plus, everyone is welcome. At any time there might be beginners training alongside pro boxers. There are kids at Contenders Boxing and there are old timers, and everyone in between. I've seen whole families, mom, dad, and kids, all training together. Trust me, if you've never tried boxing, it's worth it to try Contenders Boxing.

As a first-timer I didn't know the names of all the punches and just had to watch what others were doing. Also you've gotta come prepared with your own wraps, because the ones they sell are $25 + $5 for glove rental. The studio itself was very nice, the lights were awesome, the music was pumping, the equipment was great. It felt like I was working out in a club which is so cool! I think this is a perfect class for someone who already knows the basics of boxing and just wants to add some fun and atmosphere to their training routine.

On today, Nov. 22, 2025, I came to the 8:30 am rumble class like I do every Saturday (pending I'm…read morein town). Today, we had a different instructor whose class isn't my most favorite, but they were in this time-slot and I had plans later. Anyway, throughout class, there were 2 very chatty and loud ladies. They spent majority of the class loudly talking OVER the already loud music & they literally stood at the bags having a full blown convo and even playing on each other's bags. Now, my normal instructor, whose class I love, has told people to be quiet in the past because this is a class and we want to workout and be around good energy and motivation. It's just a distraction! Now, the part that's a bit upsetting is the customer service. I didn't express my frustration AT the studio because the chatty ladies were still in the lobby and I didn't want to put the instructor on blast. It's not like it's huge waiting area to chat. So, I left out and called... 4 times. They don't typically answer bc they suggest you text them and they list the number to text in the voicemail recording. However, they listed one number and then when they repeated it, they said a different number in the beginning which obviously was a mix up. No biggie, I text both numbers. After a second text, I got a response and asked for a manager call. I spoke with a man and I said, "hey I just want to leave feedback about class this morning and I didn't want to do it at the studio because I didn't want to embarrass anyone." He says, "ok" so I keep going and I mentioned how the ladies were very distracting and playing around. I mentioned that he could check the cameras to verify the playing around and I said the Instructor didn't address it which they usually do (my normal person). ALL HE SAID WAS, "ok thanks for the feedback." I was waiting a moment for more but there wasn't any. So I went on to say, "also the numbers on the voicemail say two different things." ALL HE SAID WAS, "ok thanks." Now, I want to mention that I am a ClassPass user. However, I have been with this studio for at least 8-9 months coming each Saturday, sometimes during the week (unless I'm out of town). I don't know if ClassPass feedback just isn't valuable, but my money is green like the rest. Customer service is important and that was very off putting. It goes a long way. A simple, "I am sorry you had a negative experience, we value your feedback, and we will be sure to check-in with the instructor so this doesn't happen again." ANYTHING would have been better than what I got. That very "whatever" response is poor customer service to me. A little apology also goes a long way. And on top of that, I held the rest of my feedback because he wasn't interested in the little I had given. but class was wonky. One thing was displayed but then we were told to do another. Or one thing was said and then forgot to put on the screen. Too many mess ups throwing me off. And the instructor didn't "work the room." Idk I'm used to the instructor going around, encouraging us, challenging us, and by walking around, that would have addressed the chatty pattys in the room! Anyway, I truly hope this doesn't happen again and I hope I can book with my normal instructors going forward.

We start with light warm-up and three rounds on the heavy bags. We then pair up for pad work. Coach Josh Flamm is a no-bull and very pragmatic coach. He's in-tune with strengths and weaknesses of his students. He's encouraging without over doing it. And since there are no belt promotions, no extra fees, you know his motivation is to coach. Coach Flamm is not coin operated.
