I went back a year ago before burning man & my wedding at the burn and got box braids done. It was a long process but so worth it. My hair stayed amazing and healthy the entire trip! Iiesha was so helpful helping me set up the appointment before and I forgot the name of who did my braids but she did amazing :) so worth it for these kinds of events. Thanks to Yelp, I believe I have found a braider long term I sent an e-mail from their website and Iesha answered and we set up a consult. She was very professional and gave me some good advice. The braid style I was looking for required added hair, so she told me which to get and gave me the option to buy it from her or buy my own and bring it in. So I recently moved to Pasadena (about a year ago) and as all ladies know it's an arduous process finding a trustworthy and talented hair lady. For me in particular it take lots of research and mostly recommendations. Since I didn't know anyone in the Pasadena area who cld have directed me to a shop specializing in Afro hair I depended on Yelp. This place had fairly good reviews and it was CLOSE (walking distant) to my apartment so I felt like I could form a relationship with this hair shop. I am going natural (way of saying I wont over-straighten or perm my hair) so I was looking for a transitioning style (A method for returning to a natural hair texture from a chemically straightened one or heat damage. Over a period of weeks or months, the ends of the hair will be cut away as the new growth appears. While the transitioning process will require the wearer to find various styles that work with both textures (the heat damaged and the natural), it's generally considered a less dramatic option in returning to natural hair than chopping it all off) and braids are a PERFECT transitioning style! My initial visit: I dropped by and met with Iesha and told her my concerns and what I wanted. I wanted chunky twist similar to Senegalese twist. I had pictures of what I wanted and she said she could do it. The process took about 5-6 hours but the results were more than amazing!! This was my first time with braids and I was in LOVE. Since they were chunky it was easy to take out plus there was minimal damage to my hair. I LOvED it!. My 2nd visit: I met with Courtney and she was just as amazing as Iesha. She was funny and sweet and made the 7 hours fly by. The second time I got chunky braids (similar to Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice) and I loved them just as much. I waited about 4 months before getting these braids to give my hair a break but I know I will keep coming back to this place to get my braids. Iesha is friendly and very attentive she listens to your concerns and what you want and delivers the best results. Courtney great. It's been several years since I last visited Iiesha's Braid Affair. So I was delighted to see that she was still doing amazing work. I had been giving my hair a break trying different styles, as most folks do. My new obsession are those crochet protected styles. When my "usual" stylist did not get back to me for over a week, I looked up Iiesha and she promptly got back to me via "yelp-chat". She was understandably booked for Saturday but because I was pressed for time, she was able to fit me in to install the cornrow crochet foundation with no problem!! Her colleague, Marina, greeted me with great energy and she quickly cornrowed my hair in less than an hour!! The rate was great...no extra surcharge/rate hike for it being a last minute appointment either!! While I was able to install the crochet braids myself, I think next time I will "come back home" to Iiesha's The Braid Affair for the entire installation. Was super excited to establish a genuine connection with a braider (as I will constantly get braided weekly) and set up an appt for 1pm. I am originally from Pasadena but moved to Azusa and wanted to support woman locally owned businesses so made the trek from Azusa. I arrive 15min early and was assured she'd take 10min which I said sure as long as you're ready by 1pm. 1pm comes nothing I wait an extra 5min nothing 1:08 I politely ask how much longer she says "a few more minutes" doesn't offer anything and begins to walk to the back. I just finished having my hair braided by Miriam and I must say that I am impressed. I set the appointment with Iesha which included a free consultation session to discuss what I wanted, prices, set appointment , etc. I arrived a few minutes after 9 am and my stylist was there ready to go. We had all had a good time chit chatting and the time went by fast! I was walking out by 3pm. The end product is awesome. Very neat, clean braids and thinned out on the ends for a more natural look. They also provided advice on upkeep and products to use. I got medium size waist length box braids which ran about 220. I'm about to have a baby so I consider it money well spent. Overall, these are very lovely, professional ladies and if you are looking for good quality braids in the Pasadena or surrounding area, then I definitely recommend this salon! read more
