If you are looking for a stylist that has a great personality, prices that match the effort put in and overall great service, you need to get your hair braided by tamiko! I've gotten my hair braided once in Los Angeles and while the braids were done well, I had a few painful nights(done waaay too tight), the braider wasn't super personable and honestly, I wasn't IN LOVE with my braids. This time around, I decided to go for a boho box braid (think Zoë kravitz) and I wanted to try someone out new! I'm in highland park so I opted to search on yelp for braiders up in the area. I came across a few and actually messaged one before finding tamiko. Unfortunately that braider never responded (oh well!) and decided to reach out to this salon. I got a response within what felt like half an hour. I sent her the pictures, she told me how much it would cost and the hair I would need. I ended up at a beauty supply store that didn't carry what she told me to get. I called her and she picked up and told me what I could get instead. Her studio is in a modern Salon in Pasadena. Like other yelpers have shared, she has a tv with Netflix and Hulu, which is amazing. She is super talkative so you will find yourself pausing your show, but conversation is genuine! She braided in a way that my braids are perfect yet my scalp was never sore, which was what I was looking for! She told me how to care for it and I was even able to pay via Venmo which was awesome. I was thrilled by Miko's work. She did my daughter's braids, and they look amazing! Before we went, she offered to pick up her hair extensions (I ended up getting the hair since I was close by). Then she was texting me back and forth as I had to select the right color. She even let me call her to consult in the middle of her day. She was very pleasant, very patient with me. Since it was my first time getting her braids, Miko spent a lot of time educating me about their care: how to clean them, care for them. She even texted me multiple times after we left to tell me what oils to buy to make my own spray. (She also has a really nice spray that she sells; I just wanted to try my own spray first). In addition, she has gone above and beyond by helping me find the right swimming cap via text (my daughter is swimming everyday in camp. Oh, and in addition, she told me what we'll need to do as a follow up (since my daughter is swimming in camp two hours a day) to keep the braids fresh in a few weeks... Like, her redoing the front and any loose braids. Her facility is pleasant, she has movies for kids, which was important to keep my 6 year old's attention. She was patient and respectful when my daughter got up multiple times (very annoying, but hard for a kid to sit for 6-7 hours for the first time). An added plus was that she and I hit it off. She's easy to talk to, and we talked about a LOT of stuff. I was happy to learn that we have a lot in common. 1st visit to Miko's for a loc consultation. Her space was very relaxing with very upbeat music. She not only told me about the types of starter locs, but showed them on my hair so I could get a visual. We decided on the method she would use, & we were able to do the installation about 40 mins after my consult. Miko was very thorough with answering all my questions, discussing maintenance/upkeep, time range to have the locs bud & mature, & the difference (beyond the obvious) between locs & other hairstyles.
