The kitchen and restrooms are in the back. This is a family style restaurant, with just a few decorations like a mural of a Mexican scene on one wall. Everything appeared clean as far as I could see. My server was pleasant and brought me some chips and salsa. Chips are the typical thin American style. The salsa is medium spicy, tomatoey and zipped in a blender. I ordered the "guiso plate" and was told I could choose between hand made flour or store-bought corn tortillas. I prefer corn, so I was promptly served the carne guisada along with corn tortillas (which were quite good). The carne guisada had more of an American gravy texture and taste than most carne guisada I have had in Mexico. But I slathered the salsa over it and that pepped it up. This is not a trendy place nor super fancy, but you can find good food and pleasant service. As I left I requested some iced tea to go, and they were happy to oblige, and that was nice as I had a long drive ahead of me. I would go back when I have occasion to go through Ballinger.
