If you are a minority and experiencing any kind of trauma, anxiety, or stress due to the political climate we are currently in I would not recommend seeing Hannah Small. She seems to have a very baseline knowledge of things like systemic oppression and cultural stress. The main reason I started therapy was because I had intense anxiety about my sister being taken by ICE because she's dark complected and also non verbal due to her autism. People ask all the time if she speaks English. I'm worried she'll be taken and I won't ever see her again. Hannah would sympathize with me when I told her this but nothing ever beyond that really. I eventually stopped talking to her about my fear of ICE because it seemed like she couldn't really offer anything besides sympathy. I also was unemployed for a year due to my poor mental health and one session I was talking to her about how being unemployed brings a lot of shame and judgement. She said she didn't understand that because she would never judge someone for being unemployed. The most recent session, what made me finally make the decision to change therapists was when I told her about my old job as a retail manager and I had a black female employee with intense anger issues. I told her that I didn't fire her right away because she just overcame homelessness and got a car after having neither for over a year. I knew what she had been through was the reason for her anger issues. Unfortunately, it got to a point where I did have to fire her and I felt very guilty about it because I knew she'd end up being homeless again. Hannah said that was a negative way of thinking and that I don't know for sure if she didn't find something better. I told her it is possible she found a better opportunity but highly unlikely because she's a mentally ill black woman in a very conservative state. I told her I think I'm being realistic not negative. It's harmful to think someone, especially a minority, is constantly in control of their mental health or really life in general and systemic oppression doesn't affect it at all. That is hyper-individualism and puts all the blame on someone reacting to being in survival mode and takes all the blame away from the system that caused them to have to be in survival mode. We ended up going back and forth about it until the session was over. In-between that conversation, I was talking to her about my new job and how I'm struggling with the training still after being there for a month and I have to prepare myself incase I don't make it there. She kept saying instead of stressing about it I should be hopeful that I'll find something better and a good fit for me. I was trying to tell her that isn't likely because I've struggled at every job I've had due to my autism and adhd. Again we were going back and forth about whether this was negative thinking or logical thinking. The last thing she said to express her point of view was this: If two people want to become a chef, one has a culinary degree and one doesn't, they both can become a chef, one is just going to have more difficulty. And then she said "Ratatouille did it!" in an effort to lighten the mood. I laughed because my autism also makes me avoid confrontation. But I honestly thought it was very cringe to use a cartoon character as a comparison of a person trying to survive institutionalized racism and fascism. My insurance is also being billed for an entire hour of therapy and we never did a full hour. She'd always come get me 3-5 minutes late and end the session 5-10 minutes early. Also, she took notes in the beginning because I was supposed to do emdr therapy with her. But after we finished setting everything up for it she no longer took notes. Now it is possible she took them after our appointment which I'm really hoping because if she didn't I'm going to have to start completely over with the next therapist. She did, however, really help me with the physical and mental side of my anxiety by teaching me different exercises to do to suppress whatever it is that's causing my anxiety. I use those exercises almost everyday. I think she'd be good help for someone who has more personalized issues that aren't being caused by harmful policies and behaviors by our government. read more

I did it in advance because with the world falling apart I'm having trouble like a lot of people. I did everything I was suppose to do. They said he has plenty of space. Filled everything out pretty quick within a week. Two weeks before my schedule app I could tell in my gut something was off. Then the day before my appointment, I had already had 3 texts confirming my appointment. Even on the day before. Then I get a call from a lovely girl. She was the only one that I knew felt horrible and that this was wrong. He decided to drop me the day before. Not find me a replacement or anything like that. Leaving me without therapy for about a month. I go every week. The girl tried everything to make me happy. But the owner Meredith doesn't realize when she is talking to someone intelligent. She might be able to snooze some people. She was going to tell me how this was not my fault at all & how she will give no excuses! Then she gave me a lot of excuses & assuming many things. It was clear I'm Medicare and they don't want to get less money. Well Gaither needed to stop it at the two week mark. But the day before that's what Intake is for. Seeing how it works for both people. But instead of doing the right thing. They could have cared less about leaving me with No one to go to therapy for. The sweet girl tried to call so many places & find me someone. Everyone was over a month. I had to do it by myself which is fine. But I have heard so much about this place. They want it for the elite so unless you have plenty of money. Don't even try this place. & obviously Dr. Gaither does NOT CARE AT ALL. I had NEVER experienced anything like this. That Meredith owner is smooth be careful with her. She is good at pretending. She just kept blaming me & saying "oh I was right you're just not a fit for him.." Someone else there should have picked me up. Her excuse was because I asked for Dr. Gaither that I only wanted a guy. I usually only go to women if they would have called they would have known that. But they do this to A lot of people. Do NOT TRUST THIS PLACE. But that girl working the front she is an Angel. Her heart I could hear it breaking for me. You could tell she was like why do I work here.... I wish only the best for her. She has empathy unlike the owner. And Dr. Gaither needs to change his bio. Because the reasons I was given made me feel sick. But I think it's clear what's happening here.

If you have a mental health concern, please GO SOMEWHERE ELSE because they will not know how to respond and will not help! If you have a need, get in touch with a clinical psychologist and know you did the right thing. I had a loved one in crisis and they did nothing but allow it to happen. Although it was clear my loved one was in complete crisis and the center saw my loved one....the therapist did nothing. She allowed my loved one to go to jail and now my loved one is in a mental facility. Thank you, Still Waters Counseling Center. (For a year of nonsense) Just wow. This staff is not responsive- or responsible. Please save yourself and save yourself the time and trouble.

She constantly uses the excuse that she is incapable of handling all of the patients assigned to her, complaining about her overwhelming schedule every chance she gets. I've learned more about her than I have about my recovery. She abuses her power in a very passive aggressive way. I've heard her threaten to take away medication. I've caught and debunked a literal long list of lies in the past year that I've experienced as her patient and she has done more damage to my recovery than good. She lies about things she doesn't have to lie about. Today, she said no counselors were available and when asked why (in front of 3 witnesses), she said they were directing a group that was not listed on the group calendar. This is a bold faced lie; I've been here for a year an have never heard of any exclusive groups. I've spoken to patients that have had similar experiences of incompetence, excuses, lies, and abuse of power. There are consequences for patients who wear a rastafari shirt and trigger others, but the front staff can come in with a hangover and the lights turned off without it ever being addressed. I've even witnessed a nurse forcing a woman out of the bathroom while she was in the middle of peeing for a drug screen because there was a line. There's usually a line and good wait depending on what time you come in. You'll see the doctor ONCE A YEAR and your counselor handles your dosage and medical inquiries. I had to go through 3 staff members to get the opportunity to speak with the doctor (who is currently not even active at the clinic, there is an on call doctor). The group phone calls are the worst groups I've ever sat in on and if my insurance listened in on those calls there's no way they'd cover this service. Example; today my anger management group answered Suboxone and Methadone questions and the rest of the time was taking attendance. This clinic has the resources to really make a difference and make this a safe place that patients can trust, but the inconsistencies turn this into a very hostile place because it leaves so many people angry and hopeless.

The front desk comes in with hangovers and turns off the lights. The counselors' schedules are so cramped they are too overwhelmed to do anything for the patients and often forget things you've asked them to do or will deliberately not respond to you. They've asked patient to commit insurance fraud. They are inconsistent with policies and abuse their power over your medication (use it against you). They allow patients that are clearly intoxicated and slumpt over to dose. The doctor refuses to see patients, but ONCE A YEAR for the annual evaluation. The counselors who are not medically trained handle medical issues/questions and the front desk receptionist who is not trained to counsel handles groups. Unfortunately, this is the only place you can go in Muncie to start recovery when you're ready. Be aware you will have to fight for your sobriety yourself, they do not do or have much for support or resources. You are just a number.

I had to do my own research and prod them into treatment. On the 1st visit my eyes were dilated with very strong drops normally reserved for extreme situations. My pupils remained dilated for 11 days (I thought I was going blind). I questioned staff to find out what had been used. They made a 'mistake' and now keep it in a locked cabinet. No acknowledgement or apology. When I described some of my experiences to 3 other ophthalmologists they were very concerned. I felt this was a cattle call...make as much money as you possibly can, no matter the outcome for the patients.
