We had lunch here recently on a Ring of Kerry drive. The atmosphere in this pub is just great. The staff is friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. I had the roast chicken with veg and mash. Yum yum yum. After a morning trip our to Skellig Michael and hiking up 600+ stairs, I was so ready for a good meal when we returned to the mainland. Thankfully, The Bridge Bar & Mooring Restaurant was steps from the marina and highly ranked on Yelp! I had the tortellini and shared the mussels (on special) with my husband. YUM. These were probably some of the best mussels we had on our trip - or possible ever. The broth was just so delicious, I could have eaten it up with just a spoon. Stopped here for a scheduled lunch during our tour of Ireland. We had some difficulty with seating at first (maybe COVID regulations?) and needed to rearrange ourselves. The wait staff seemed confused by this. The drinks came out quickly then the food shortly after. Everyone in our large group of 17 had their food come out at the same time. I ordered a cider that was really good. The fish in my gosh and chips was huge! I am American so maybe I am just unfamiliar with this, but it came with a warm cole slaw? This actually tasted good with the fish! I had mushy peas for the first time and it wasn't bad either. Luckily the meal also came with tartar sauce that was good with the fish. Also at my table, my friend got the Guinness stew and WOW it was amazing! If I could go back, I would order this!! My mom god the smoked salmon on toast, and this seemed more like an appetizer over a lunch. She ate most of my fries because she was still hungry. Wonderful Star War Stories, Great Staff and Delicious Food!! This is a little off the Ring of Kerry, but if you are a die hard Star Wars fan, you have to stop here! We were on a tour from Killarney, but out to see the Skellig Islands (unfortunately the waves were too strong and did not want to become fish food) so we were still able to eat here and I had the fish & chips and my son had the beef curry (lord...I know!) but the food portions were large and was delicious!!! The homemade tarter sauce was to die for! Talk to Alice about J.J. Abrahms...there is a good Irish tale for this duo and plenty of pictures and even shirts for sale. I came here while on a guided ring of Kerry tour. There were approximately 8 people on our tour so they called ahead and the table was waiting for us when we got there. It was nice to just sit right down and not have to worry. The place was talked up a lot regarding the filming of star wars and as the pub that was their spot after filming. The food here was pretty good and I had a few harps from the bar. The beer was cold and the food good. I got the fish and chips and it was way more fish then I expected. I also ordered the calamari appetizer and that was well worth it. I think this is a nice little spot with some good stories and food and worth a stop if your passing by or trying to tour the ring of Kerry. read more

Portmagee is an adorable port town most known for being a jumping off point for Skellig Michael and for winning the Best Public Toilet in 2002. However, the town does have a really good restaurant in The Bridge Bar & Mooring Restaurant, located right on the harbor front. It provides a robust menu of options, include some really delicious seafood straight from the ocean waters. They also have a Star Wars exhibit here (due to Skellig Michael), so be sure to check out Darth Vader and pictures of Mark Hamill drinking Guinness. My girlfriend and I ordered the 6 oz. Burger with chips (€9.95) and the Bridge Bar Cold Seafood Platter (€23.95), which consisted of Portmagee crab claws, mussels, smoked salmon, smoked Mackerel, BBQ salmon, poached salmon along with brown bread. Needless to say, it's a seafood lovers dream plate, and lived up to the hype, with each one better than the last. I especially liked the smoke salmon and smoked mackerel, and it came with this delicious dipping sauce. The burger was solid too, no major complaints, but if you're coming here definitely get the seafood. Overall, it was a great meal and worth every euro. It's one of the better of the limited options in small Portmagee. But even with limited choices, The Bridge Bar & Mooring Restaurant can compete with any of the restaurants in Ireland. There are not too many places to eat in Port Magee but this one comes highly recommended and it meets the hype. Great specials on their chalkboard plus a nice menu should satisfy most in your party. We started with a basket of brown soda bread as we were starving after a long day of touring. I got the veggie pasta special which was spinach and cheese tortellini with tomatoes and spinach and it was great. Friend got the fresh salmon catch and grilled veggies and is still raving about it. They have a good dessert menu but we were too full to indulge. The Guinness or Murphys were flowing and made for a good topper to the evening. We stopped for the night in Portmagee while driving the Ring of Kerry. It's a very small town and the food options are definitely limited. We were staying in a B&B nearby and wanted someplace we could easily walk to. The Mooring Restaurant fit the bill. We were seated right away and they promptly brought over a chalk board that had the specials written on it. They actually bring it table to table and prop it up while you're deciding what to order before taking it to the next group who came in a bit after you. I found that to be so amusing - maybe that's just me though. Despite the numerous options, I ordered the chicken curry and rice. I wasn't sure what to expect with ordering a curry dish in a pub like atmosphere but I figured why not. Turns out they include mushrooms in their curry (my most hated vegetable). I was able to pick around all of them pretty easily. I was also a bit confused by the rice. I'm accustom to a long grain rice with my curry and this was shorter and a bit dry (didn't stick together at all). It was a bit odd. To make it stranger, I had a Guinness with it all. I was surprised to discover that Guinness and curry are actually pretty good together. Who knew! 3 stars. read more

We stopped off at The Bridge Bar for some food on our way back from doing the Skelligs Ring drive. They have these wonderful colourful picnic benches out front looking over the harbour, so nab one of these if you find yourself here on a nice day. Starting with some cider poured over ice, we took in the sun and views. Next we ordered some food, which if I am honest, was not great. The most interesting seafood chowder I've ever had and not in a good way. It was like a bog standard pub vegetable soup with some fish chunks added in. It was a disappointment. My parters fish and chips were OK, nothing to write home about. We left after the one drink and food. I might go back for a drink, but not the food. read more

The Moorings restaurant is a lovely, cosy restaurant attached to the Moorings B&B. You can't miss it, with it's bright red exterior and facing over the harbour. The staff are lovely, and go out of their way to help you out. The food was decent - I had a seafood risotto, with the biggest crab claw I'd ever seen on it! For me it was a touch salty, but otherwise, very lovely, comfort dish! My husband had the chicken, which was also decent. The portion sizes are good, since we were both too full to eat a dessert! We also had our breakfast in the mornings, as we were staying in the B&B. The breakfast range is very good, with a cold breakfast buffet on offer and a choice from the hot food menu. On the first day, I had the waffles with maple syrup, which were light and crispy. On the second day, I had the lemon sole, which was amazing! I am changing my review mostly because of seafood platter. Interior is nice and bathroom is clean. Drink is reasonably priced - a pint of Guinness is 4.10 euros. I have mixed reviews for the dishes though. Seafood mariniere was delicious and fish & chips was also great. However, at 29 euros, seafood platter is poor value, especially compared to seafood mariniere. You just don't get enough food. Get the seafood platter from the next door restaurant (Fisherman's Bar & Skellig Restaurant) - it is less expensive and includes crab claws, crab meat salad, smoked salmon, mussels, and a small piece of lobster (plus some more...but I don't remember). Seafood chowder was also a disappointment, salty and bland. read more

Wow.... Ok maybe not wow.... But something near it. Almost everything in this place was great. The staff, full of hello's, can I help you, have a good evening and great about the one thing that was wrong. And this was to a group of 10 people that just arrived in unannounced. The place is nice and spacious and we found a big enough table to suit us all without squashing up against each other. The food, for 90% of us, was perfect. More than perfect. The dishes were big and the majority of us left the venue complaint of having ate too much, and that is after we left some behind. That's a good complaint, isn't it? I had the pasta special, Chicken (literally a chicken breast, with the skin still on it, sliced up), chorizo and a cream sauce. It was good. The chorizo was great, nice and spicy. The majority of the others had the fish, chips and mushy peas - sure why wouldn't you when you are right beside the Atlantic. One of the fish portions was off but once the waitress was informed she apologised, took it away and asked my friend if she would like another portion or something different. THIS is what customer service is about! I will definitely be recommending this to anybody I know is going to Portmagee, Cahirciveen or Valentia Island. read more

We actually ate here two days out of three while visiting the area. The first night in the restaurant area and I had Seafood risotto and vegetables the first night. The 2nd time was in the bar area and I had roast leg of lamb - 1/2 portion. The risotto was quite good and a very large portion, we all took home leftovers and had enough for a second dinner. The lamb was very tender and well cooked. My husband had Irish Stew the second night and it was truly superb. We were with several others and everyone was pleased with their meal. Had the fish and chips, with an extremely large filet rather than the skinny sticks i typically have with the dish in the U.S. Maybe a little spendier (at 15 euro) than fish-and-chips usually is (and was in other Ireland cities I visited this week), but you've got few better choices in Portmagee. read more

After driving around Valentia Island for the morning while on Holiday in Kerry, my husband and I stopped through Portmagee once our bellies decided it was lunch time. Most places there were closed, as it was just before christmas, but we worked our way into the Bridge Bar. They had quite a large menu, so you'd find something there for just about anyone. We ordered the irish stew, and the soup of the day with brown bread (which was vegetable that day). Both were fantastic, and very flavourful. The inside of the pub was cutely decorated as well in an ecclectic marine theme. I know that on some nights they have live music here as well, but unfortunately (due to bad weather over Christmas) we were unable to make it back the music. However, the background music was surprisingly REALLY good. Not something I usually notice, but it was good here. The staff were super friendly and accomodating. The next time I'm in the Skellig area, will definitely be back here again! read more

I had the Cod special. It was a nice size , over an inch thick and 4 by 3 inches in size. It was cooked very nicely. This was placed on a nice bed of spinach. The sauce with it was delicate and creamy. Overall very nice. The side dish had cheddar potatoes , pea in the pod, beats, potatoes , broccoli , radishes and forgive me if I left something out. All nicely cooked. This was set at about 23 euro. Everyone at the table had large portions and we ended taking home as much food as we ate. Everyone was happy with the their meal. One of the better pubs we got to on our vacation (and believe me, there was PLENTY of those) with good pub grub and fair prices. Excellent local music on Sunday nights, with some dancing thrown in. Some of the dancers also perform at the Skelling Center and in local groups. A lot of fun with a great community vibe. I was quite impressed with the size of the portions and the out and out tastiness of the coleslaw and sandwiches. I was also quite impressed that everyone after our trip to Skelling Michael piled into the pub to lift a pint to a great day and no one was elbow to elbow. read more

Loved this place. We were in Portmagee having booked a trip to visit Skellig Michael which was arranged through The Moorings. When we look back on our trip across Ireland, my wife and I agree that we wished to have spent more time here. Excellent location, good food, friendly service, and nice trad music in the evenings. We came to the Moorings for lunch as part of our tour around the ring of Kerry. It's a cute little town and it was nice to be able to get pictures outside by the harbor. We ordered from a prix fixe menu since there were so many of us. I chose the seafood chowder and open faced ham and cheese sandwich option. The chowder was just ok. It had big chunks of fish in it, but it was otherwise pretty bland. The ham and cheese was really disappointing. It was on brown bread with one thin slice of ham on one side and a pile of shredded cheese on the other. It was really difficult to eat as the cheese kept falling off the sandwich and and you couldn't even taste the sliver of ham. It just wasn't good. I would come back based on the location of the place for a drink, but the food wasn't worth coming back for. read more
